Stroud and Young were both very accurate in college. I think accuracy is even more important on the pro level because there is less margin for error against NFL defenses.

What worries me is if Stroud and Young are both gone by pick 4, I believe the Colts will take Levis and try to make the best of it.

For some reason, Levis strikes me as the type of QB that Frank Reich would like. He may be eyeing him there with pick #7.

I get the part about drafting and developing your own player. It is strange that Ballard seems to love this so much with most of the current draft-pick players on our roster, yet he has never attempted it with an early-round QB.

I haven't had a chance to study film of Levis yet; though I hope to soon. I was impressed with both Stroud and Young but Iike Stroud slightly better. Young has plenty of talent, I am just concerned if his body size will hold up under the NFL rigor.

I actually like this idea better. Someone suggested our #35 pick this year or like you said some other combination of future picks. This would allow the Colts to keep the #4 pick or trade it for additional immediate assets, yet still get a QB ready to play.

Good points. Any rookie is probably going to take a couple years to get acclimated to the NFL as well. The thinking is to get Fields now and see if you can bypass the 2-years of development you will likely face with a rookie. Yes you will have to pay Fields sooner if he hits, but if the QB you draft doesn't pan out after the first 2-3 years, then you will likely start the QB process all over again in this case as well.

You might be right. I believe the Bears drafted Fields 11th overall. They may be willing to take a lower pick, series of picks, or a future pick to part with him. So, if the Bears would Trade Fields, for #35, what would you do with the 4th pick in that case?

Possibly you get a chance to draft Williams or Maye. Fields would be ready to play day 1. If you make the Colts fans wait another year to potentially get Williams or Maye, you better make it happen. If we do the QB carousel another year and don't get one of those two guys, Ballard would be fired and the Colts fan base would conduct an open revolt against Irsay.

I think it remains to be seen how good Fields can be. We know that he can play on the NFL level, we don't know this about the top 3 QB's in the draft. Maybe the Bears really like a QB in this draft and want to go a different direction then where Fields has taken them so far?

Let's say the Colts are not sold that Levis, Young, or Stroud are somebody for their future but they don't want to wait around for Hooker or Mckee to develop. Do you take Fields now and maybe draft one of those guys in the 3rd round in case Fields does not work out.

Would you trade the #4 pick for Justin Fields? According to recent reports. Multiple NFL general managers came away from the recent Pro Bowl weekend believing the Bears are open to dealing QB Justin Fields. Fields will be entering his 3rd-year of a 4-year rookie contract that also has a 5th-year option. There is a lot of speculation that none of the QB's at the top of this draft are elite and will likely need a couple years to adjust to the NFL. Fields already has a couple years experience as an NFL player. He could potentially hit the ground running on the Colts and new coach Steichen could utilize and mold him much like he did with Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia. The Colts have already shown that they want to shorten the window of returning to competitive relevancy by convincing their new coach to largely keep the entire defensive staff in place. Would a young explosive QB with a couple years of experience shorten that window even more?

That is exactly what Ballard is going to do. It is pretty clear from his past statements and actions that he doesn't place significant value on the WR position. This why he has never signed or traded for an impactful receiver in his entire tenure as GM. Absent Pittman, he has taken several stabs at receivers in the draft and so far has missed. I don't expect anything to change this offseason.

I agree. Pascal was a good Colt and I meant no disrespect to him. I feel like Ballard relied on his relatively cheap contract at WR which kept him from upgrading the position. Every team needs a few Pascals to round out their roster.

Yes, because Ballard has been nailing our later round draft picks at WR for the last 5 off seasons so that should be simple. Beasley is a producer when healthy and the Colts desperately need another WR who produces. The WR salaries are meaningless at this point as they go up every year with the expanding salary cap. What do you think those salaries are going to look like in 3-4 years? Most of these 3-4 deals offer a good bit of guaranteed money up front and an out when needed. Every team is doing this and if the Colts do not they will be left behind quickly.

Same stuff, different year. The Browns, Dolphins, Chargers all non-playoff teams last year are getting better. The Titans who were the AFC's #1 seed last year, just got better. The Colts....status quo at best....very frustrating!

Just what exactly is the Colts plan to get a new QB? Maybe their strategy is to wait until the other 31 teams have secured their QB and then go find someone on the cheap? It appears as if Deshaun Watson is going to choose between Atlanta and New Orleans soon. By last count, that means only the Colts, Panthers, Seattle and one of those teams are still looking for a QB. Baker Mayfield says he wants a divorce but the Browns say they want him to grow up. I just know that there is someone out there on this forum that can't wait to convince me that it was somehow Ballard's plan all along to wait for chaos to happen in Cleveland so the Colts could pick up the pieces of another injured and average QB. Bogus! I mean, really? If the Colts stated reasons for getting rid of Wentz is that he is not a good enough leader, then do we really want to go down the path with another QB that his team just essentially called him a child? Maybe the hope is to wait for every team to fill their QB spot with someone not named Jimmy G., and then pray that the Niners will trade him to the Colts on the cheap. The Colts have no intention of trading for or acquiring another FA stop-gap QB this offseason. That means, they fully intend to draft someone in April, or less likely, tank for a year and draft a QB in what is supposed to be a better QB class in 2023. I am not sure Jim Irsay or the Colts fans are patient enough (me included) for the latter. What else could it be? If Colt's management has not fully decided to draft their next signal caller, with each passing day it is really hard for the Colts FO to pretend that their current plan has led them to this point and they are happy with it? No arguments here. I have been saying for days that whatever the Colts "plan" is, that they better execute it sooner rather than later. The rest of the league who already have their QB now can properly focus on the draft and the rest of FA.
