i just dont like the make up of this team ballard put together .  you need a pass rush and to be able to air it out .  we dont have either so elite QBs will just pick us apart .   cant keep running it every play were like the 2011 vikings with peterson

He’s tried to fix the pass rush - drafting Paye and Dayo, trading for Ngonkue.

These moves have not yet borne any fruit.  We get no pressure on opposing QBs.

I was referring to next year versus trading for Sam Darnold

Well, I’m sure that option will be within the range of ones in front of the staff.

I think it’s promising that they’ve rostered JE and cut ties with Kelly.  That suggests some confidence and optimism.

And maybe they’ll surprise everybody and conclude it’s the best option available.  But I wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss the prospect of getting Darnold.

I’d rather risk letting Eason have the reigns for a year. Dude has a cannon

OK.  But I would only do that when and if we’re eliminated.  I doubt Reich would do that even in that circumstance.  But you can’t put a bubble team’s playoff aspirations into the hands of a rookie QB with no game experience.

My only point is that I don’t think Rivers is the guy we need.  Not this year and certainly not next year.

But it’s hard, really hard (and often involves a stroke or two of sheer luck), to find a franchise quarterback in the NFL.  Realistically, there are only about 7 or 8 genuine studs playing at any one time.  And because the NFL has become such a pass oriented league, the 24ish teams that don’t have one of them are always striving to find one.

if the colts miss the playoffs does anyone still want rivers back ?   i would only if they make the playoffs this year .

I get the impression that the consensus view around here on this question changes from game to game.  When we win, most posters seem to think Rivers is the man for the job.  When we lose, not so much.

Personally, I haven’t been very impressed with him this year whether we’re winning or losing.  A few games in, after seeing just how immobile PR is and that his arm strength and accuracy aren’t all that great anymore, I began to feel that we’d be a better team with JB under center.  But it’s not a very popular opinion around here, especially after two big wins.

I think we probably should seek to make a change at QB in the off-season.  However, only time will tell what options CB will have.  And, obviously, that’s going to direct the decision-making.

If the Jets go first and decide to take Lawrence, I hope we go after Darnold.

Hard pass on Dorsey unless they keep him away from players.

Unless Dobbs has no interest in career advancement, he'll take it. He's considered to be a guy that doesn't like attention, so perhaps he stays... but that would be really silly unless he's simply happy with being a lifetime #2. I'm sure the Browns are willing spend the cash on him.

I agree, re: Dorsey.  There’s a reason he’s been fired twice in the last several years.  And it’s not just the moves he did or didn’t make.  I don’t think his temperament fits the Colts’ culture.

I know that Ballard loves and admires him.  But he’s not right for us.

I think those who are losing patience with our GM need to take a moment and reflect about this... Some of the greatest players in football, took a few years to develop into that great player they became. It took hard work and dedication to become that player.

If ballard is anything, he is a hard worker, and he is dedicated to his craft. To expect Ballard to do better than he already has, as a rookie GM, imo, is unreasonable. To act like hes been a GM for years before we got him, to expect him to make fewer than a handful of mistakes in 3 years time, is unreasonable.

How many jobs have you screwed up on before you finally stopped making mistakes? And did you have to scout new employees who you were required to hit every single pick on? No. Sit back. Relax. And give Ballard some time to learn this craft.

Andrew Luck retires and everyone acts like Ballard is a problem for this team. Theres no other GM out there that I would rathere have running this team, and that's the bottom line. There is absolutely no one better out there, and if there is one out there, you can be sure hes not going to leave his team for this one. I had to say something because I'm tired of seeing people complain about our GM when they dont even have an alternate scenario lined up. They just want to complain about how it's raining today and the weather man should have said it was gonna rain tomorrow.

Relax and have a good off season.

Ballard is just fine.  I think his postseason PC demonstrated that both his head and heart are in the right places.  He knows where things stand, he knows the buck stops with him, and he knows he has his work cut out for him.

What would concern me is a GM who, in the wake of a disappointing season like this was, could only offer excuses, deflections, complaints, defensiveness, etc.

    We’ve got the right guy.

And it all started with Luck pulling the plug.

....which started with Ryan Grigson forgetting he had to invest in protecting his prize franchise QB, and scoffing at people who mentioned it to him.

Hey, our QB is getting muredered out there...let’s draft another WR!

Rock had some good coverage last night. Brees is just that good.

Well, Brees is terrific.  No doubt about that.

But he was still way above his typical completion percentage.  I’m not going to hang that all on RYS.  It was a (bad) team effort.
