They took about three shots his way deep today and he caught none of them.  They tried it once with Pittman who caught one of the most contested catches you’ll ever see.  At some point Pierce is going to run out of excuses.

I didn’t say they weren’t doing it at all.  Just not much.

But I think that’ll change as AR develops.

Yeah, Pierce has to step up.  It's his 2nd year and the #2 WR on this team is his for the taking, and I'm just not seeing it yet.  I like what I'm seeing out of Downs more than Pierce.  Downs may end up being a bit of a steal.

    I agree.

But in Alec’s defense, his game is downfield.  And our offense just isn’t doing that much - yet.

  3. I’ll never understand fans griping about spending a little money on a reliable kicker with range.  There aren’t that many of them and they often factor decisively in close games.

After watching AV’s last couple years and Hot Rod after year 1 (which was good, but showed limited range), I was thrilled when we signed Matt Gay.

Idk why everyone is impressed. AR was inaccurate(as expected) but all his passes were dump offs. Idk why that’s all his throws were. When he threw more then 10 yards all his balls are way to high. He had a dump off in the beginning of the game that was even super high luckily the te caught it. Decision making was good but I was expecting them to have him actually trying to throw down field more. Didn’t expect a win but that game was so winnable it hurlers even more knowing that. Does the line suck or is it just our rbs?

It was his 14th competitive start since high school…against a pretty good NFL defense.

Richardson was just fine today.  Yeah, he made some mistakes.  And, yeah, they didn’t go downfield much.

All in all, I was pleased with him.

But Pierce…man.  He needs to get open.  Or we need to find a different WR2.

    Anything over 15 touchdowns.

    Anything less than 20 interceptions.

    Anything over a 50% completion.

    Anything over 2,000 yards.

This is closer to where I'm at than most posts here.  I'd probably bump it to 2500 yards (that's an average of only about 150 ypg).  But, other than that, I think these benchmarks make sense.

But I also agree with whoever said that that most important thing will be his improvement.

Guy that just got off of kidnapping charges.

Yeah, Sills was acquitted of the charges (it was kidnapping and rape, BTW).  So, legally, he's totally in the clear.  But hopefully it was, like, innocent not guilty....rather than just insufficient evidence not guilty.

That is strange how agents would blast him. He has had a great track record of re-signing his own players to huge contracts. Just recently see Leonard and Nelson. Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison as well. He paid Peyton for not even playing in 2011, he paid Luck in 2019 after he retired. 1st time he doesn't (Taylor) he gets blasted, That is pretty weak.

They weren’t blasting Irsay in general…just for inserting himself very publicly into a contract dispute.

Ballard would never, ever admit it publicly - and probably not even privately (at least while he’s still with the Colts).  But I’d be willing to bet my house that he secretly wished that Irsay would’ve stayed out of it, too.

His comments may or may not have hurt the situation.  But they clearly didn’t help.  And, again, I say that as a fan.

I don't think that's a fair statement at all.  Irsay didn't say anything poorly, and if an intelligent, thoughtful, and introspective person, like we are led to believe JT is.... Is the intended recipient, then Irsay did even less wrong.

I get that it's hard to fathom for many, but Irsay is and has been, well regarded by people who matter in his industry.

I know he’s well-regarded within the league.  I regard him highly, too.  I have long praised Irsay as an owner.

I just don’t think his public comments have been helpful for the Colts here.  And some agents have shared the same opinion.

I am pretty sure the Colts are wanting at least 1st round pick in 2024 from someone. I have no facts to back that up but when Irsay said 3 weeks ago we aren't trading him, I took that as, we aren't trading him unless we get a great deal.

While I put about 100% of the blame in this fiasco on Malki Kawa (and, of course, JT for following his bad advice), I do have to say that I really wish Irsay would've kept out of it.  I've gathered that he has a really hard time keeping his thoughts from making their way to his vocal chords -- especially when there's a microphone nearby.

This is a situation where it would've been far better for him to just say some nice things about Taylor and defer everything regarding his contract situation to Ballard.

Lol, we are a sorry bunch. Salivating over o-line guys that other teams are cutting because they are not good enough. haha

    Just kidding, well maybe not….

It’s not that uncommon for good players to get cut.  Sometimes teams just have an embarrassment of riches in this or that position room.

The Browns’ OL room is one that probably qualifies right now.

I do worry though, is Jr as good as dad or is it his namesake driving the hype

Personally, I think he'd be just as legit if his name was Marvin Jefferson, Jr.  At the college level, anyway, he is a phenomenal WR.

Does that mean he'll be able to meet or surpass his father's accomplishments in the NFL?  No.  There are no guarantees.  But it's within the realm of possibility.

I do think a lot of Colts fans have some built-in bias because of the family connection, though.

In these negotiations with Miami their starting RG Hunt needs to be involved with at least a 2nd and 4th.

I’d be all for getting Hunt and whatever else we could get in the way of draft picks.  I doubt we’ll get a starting IOL to go along with a 2 and a 4 tho.

Hit the nail right on the head. Alec plays so weak , like he doesn’t fight thru contact for the ball at all. If it’s not a clean release and vertical he probably not catching it. But I know normally WRs take 2-3 years to develop we have just been seeing some abnormalities with chase and Jefferson etc… but we might end up with MHJ at the end of year if we struggle this year

If I had to guess right now, I’d say we’ll at least be close in the 2024 draft order to have a shot at Marvin Jr.

I’m guessing we’ll win somewhere between 3-6 games.
