I remember so many epic Mike Singletary and Bruce Smith plays where they always made sure the quarterback was pump faking before they followed through on a hit :atroll:

It was a different game back then, don't know what to tell you. I'm in my mid-40s so I certainly remember those guys and even ones from further back.

By the way, the flag came out less than two seconds after Brady squirmed away. If he'd been sacked I'm almost certain that they would have called KC for holding anyway.

I heard the person is now banned from all Patriots home games.

Yup, and will possibly face charges from Foxboro PD.

I missed that.  I guess he got his 15 min. of fame   and now will be banned from attending games.  Just insane.

    It was a good game.

I missed it in real time but it's been on the news here this week. I realize there are bad fans everywhere, but it's an embarrassment to the fan base!

Whoever those Pats fans were that threw their beer in his face and flipped him off are really classy people. Good job. Rowdy crowd out there eh? :shout:

Yeah that is not OK. Some 21 year old kid apparently. But old enough to know better.

I don't know about you but I felt the Pats played like it was a must-win game.

Jaguars and Chiefs - two teams that they will have to deal with for HFA. Chiefs fade away with time, so do Jaguars with losses against teams they should beat. Will history repeat itself for the Patriots to get HFA again?

The only difference this year is that two teams that I feel are balanced and match up well vs the Patriots - Ravens and Chargers, are playing well just like last year. If they had made the playoffs last year, I felt they would have made the path to the SB much harder for the Patriots' D. They barely missed it last year, so I am rooting for those to make it as wild cards at the very least.

Sense of urgency, sure. My prior post was more a reflection of my opinion that Miami would fade/slide/whatever, not so much that the Patriots would right the proverbial ship. Had the Dolphins won yesterday they would be in control of their own destiny, but I never believed they would maintain their level of play throughout an entire season.

The Ravens make me a bit nervous... the Chargers not so much... Baltimore is one of the few teams that play the Patriots with no fear.

I honestly believe they hack the playcall signal. That would be why Peyton had 3 plays called out to him and he would pick 1 in the huddle.

Might I ask how you think this is being pulled off?

The Patriots had three losses in 2017. Two were at home.

They had two losses in 2016. Both were at home.

So prior to this season, four of their last five losses were not on the road.

The data does not support your theory...

You know I liked it better when the Pats posters here were trolls.

You are too nice, too well-spoken, and make too much sense for this to be any fun.

At any rate I’ll only count out the Pats when they’re done playing for the season.

Ha, thanks man... I appreciate that.

Lots of doom-and-gloom articles these past two days chronicling the Patriots' slow start. Stats-wise, this is considerably worse than recent years (like in 2014 when they got stomped by KC on that Monday night, leading to the now-infamous "they're done" takes from Dilfer and others). Maybe this is the beginning of the end? We'll have to wait and see I guess.

I honestly feel like part of the reason the Patriots were willing to deal him away was because of durability concerns. (If you recall, he didn't make it through the four games he was supposed to start when Brady was suspended... in fact, he didn't even make it halfway through it.)

Some guys are just prone to it. No way to measure or quantify it.

This is a must win for the Patriots. If they lose this game at home to the Dolphins, it could be the first time a team could take the AFC East away from them since 2008 when Brady was lost for the season. It was the Dolphins with Chad Pennington that did it then.

Way too early to be calling anything a "must win" in my opinion. If the Dolphins win they have a 3-game lead in the division after 4 games... and yeah, that's a pretty good place to start your season. But I've been watching football long enough to know that what you see in September is almost always a far cry from what you see after Thanksgiving.

We've seen this (in various forms, and to varying degrees) from the Patriots in a lot of seasons in the near and distant past. If they're still playing like this a month from now, then maybe there's something different about 2018. If that's the case, then they'll be in the thick of things come playoff time.

If it's not, well... it's been a good run.   I was around for the worst of it with this franchise, so I'm glad I got to hang around for the best of it.

    Hey there GP,

You know how much I respect you man, but I need to ask you a serious question: BB wasn't looked upon fondly when he was losing games in Cleveland until he landed in Massachusetts & started winning games with Bledsoe & Brady. Doesn't either approach, a strict one or a relaxed fall on deaf ears if your team is still losing & in the doldrums?

Like I always tell ya bro, I have the ut most respect for what Bill did in NY as the DC. I will never slam the guy or his football IQ. I'm a little worried about his defensive prowess taking a slight hit after the Philly SB though. I'm not saying BB is done, just this: When your calling card is defense & that facet of your game isn't what it once was--Admirers of his previous SBs notice that's all.

It's tough to judge Belichick based on what happened in Cleveland... he had that team in a pretty good spot when the move to Baltimore was announced. They were a playoff team the year prior (they actually beat the Patriots in Foxboro to advance) and I'm not sure that anyone could have done much better in what was sort of a no-win situation.

I'm not trying to defend him or his style... if forced to choose, I'm in the Brady camp when it comes to the Brady/Belichick "who made who?" debate. But Cleveland was doing pretty well under his watch before the bombshell got dropped on the city.

It goes bad either way of the team isn't winning.   Mangini was known for being hard nosed,   how did that work out?

That's true. A lot of coaches try to be tough but it doesn't work if the results aren't there to back it up. If you're getting screamed at in practice and still losing games on Sunday, players won't buy in to what you're doing.

Hey buddy how are you?   Yes, I watched both of your games, thus, my statement earlier.  This is a different team.

Also, Tom is not invincible and he's been getting hit..  It may start to take a toll.

I'm not going to say they won't get it together though, cause sure as % they'll prove me wrong.  haha

I'm good, thank you! Summer fly by like it usually does, huh? Kids are back in school and everyone is good. Hope the same is the case for you and yours.

They definitely miss Edelman... I think it'll be a different offense when he's back. They're actually better equipped to play without Gronk (like 2016) than they are without Edelman.

The defense played well against Houston, but they were just awful against the Jags. We'll see if BB and crew can get it all straightened out.

Which makes me wonder why they got rid of two of their receivers in the offseason?

Me too, lol... but in the end, it's what they do. They were never going to hang on to Cooks because they would never pay him what the Rams payed him, and Amendola finally said no to taking a pay cut. Mitchell would have stuck but it looks like his career is done (knee). And they've had almost no success drafting the position for the entirety of Belichick's tenure.

He will have a limited playbook. especially early, I'll bet. But if he executes it, it will be effective for him, Gronk, and Julian.  If he doesn't Brady will will be all over him.  If he still doesn't, he may not be on the roster long enough to get his 10 games in and the Pats get a late round pick back.

Was just sort of thinking that even if he's a mess, he still has be to accounted for by the defense. That ties up a corner, usually a halfway decent one, who may otherwise be part of a double-team on Gronk or following Edelman wherever he goes.

I don't know, they could cut him this week for all I know. But it's not like they gave much up here. If he flames out, it's effectively a swap of a 5th for a 7th.

Actually, I will argue with your math.

    32 teams x 16 games = 256 games games/year.

Ha, you are right... I am wrong... I forgot to divide by 2 at the end. haha

Still, 2 or 3 ties per year out of 256 games makes them rare.

  13.

If Gordon simply stays on the field (and avoids further suspensions), he will help the Patriots. At the very least, he'll be a nice decoy on the outside, hopefully opening things up for Gronkowski and Edelman (when the later returns).

Maybe you guys haven't seen any NE games these past two weeks, but this is probably the worst group of pass-catchers they've had since 2006.

I would call once a season pretty rare

    This. ^^

    32 teams x 16 games = 512 regular season games/year.

If we see one tie per year, that makes it "rare," by definition. You can try to argue with math, but... you end up looking silly doing it.
