Downs will be good but he’s a player that need other parts to make him good.  Downs strength is his ability to operate in space.  It’s ok to have Pittman on the outside and Downs eating up the middle.  But if we don’t have 2 other players who can push the safeties and line backers back (a dynamic TE and WR on the other side), then downs can’t operate.  The safeties are now playing close to the marker and the linebackers are occupying the middle.

Colts haven’t had answers all year to running the ball when the run is shut down.

The answer is explosive wide receivers and tight ends.  I’ve broken it down multiple times on here.  When we throw 30 times a game and 10-15 of the targets are going to Pittman for 10 yards or less, then the defense steps up and apply pressure because they know we’re not going deep.  We’re either going to run or throw the ball for less than 10 yards.  We need players who command attention past the sticks.  Downs is not that, none of our tight ends are that, and Pierce suppose to be that but he doesn’t have the talent to do it.

Again.. getting hope up just to crumble end of the season.. the falcons suck. No reason for this lose.. makes me feel like I did after the first Titans game. The season has been over since AR got injured. Now we will finish with a trash 8-9 or 9-8 season and draft 15th.

It was better watching games with no expectations than coming in with a big head

Falcons do not suck lol.  They were 6-8 going into this game and are in the playoff hunt.  Are they good, meh maybe solid, but this is the NFL and it’s any given Sunday…ESPECIALLY this year.  They have an underrated offense filled with weapons and their defense is damn near top 10.  This was going to be a tough outing even if we had won this game, this wasn’t going to be an easy one.

The players who are under their rookie contracts are the best/most dynamic players on this team outside of maybe 2.  A terrible thing for a GM who has been here about 7 years.

If ATL had Steichen as a HC, they'd probably be 11-4.

People sleep on ATLs offense but they have WEAPONS.  The problem is they don’t have the QB.  They’re one of the teams I think that should trade for Fields.  Fields with all of those weapons could become something very good.

  5. Good

is there anything I can say good about this game? lol  I’m trying really hard but it’s really just meh

Pittmans Agent:  Pittman is going to get a BAG from us.  I’m predicting $22mill/yr depending on what happens with the market and salary cap.  This game showed we need him BIG TIME.

    Bad

OL:  we got punked.  As a unit they played bad but Freeland was getting his tail handed to him.  He needs the same offseason program that Raimann had.

WRs:  We lack explosiveness on offense and it starts with the receivers.  Pittman isn’t the most explosive player but he’s dependable and open.  And today showed that we depend on him a lot, maybe too much.  Pierce is not it, I’m sorry.  Downs, he’s ok but he’s easy to nullify.  No one else is worth mentioning.  I’ve debated with people on here what our first pick or FA target should be this off-season and if this game doesn’t show you that we need an explosive WR then idk what else to tell you

Defense:  As a group they played but specifically the tackling and run defense.  Pass defense was ok but they tore us apart on the ground.  177 yards on the ground.  WOW!

Side Note:  I like Pittman and I want us to bring him back and pay him, but he’s a gift and a curse.  He’s a great player for our offense but he IS our offense.  Shane and Ballard have to figure out a way to get us more weapons on offense and spread the ball around.  Our offense reminds me of a basketball team where there’s one player that takes all of the shots and when he’s shut down and has to give the ball to someone else, the other player can’t hit the shot because they’ve only shot the ball 5 times while the other player has shot the ball 30 times.  I do not like the amount of targets Pittman gets.  We have to get another (or maybe multiple players) that can take those targets away, but they also have to be PRODUCTIVE.  I didn’t feel good about this game because we were asking players who as a group gets targeted the same amount as ONE player to step up and replicate that production in one week.  And we don’t have the talent on offense that can do that.

Fifth round pick producing like that is very impressive. Helps that Stafford is his QB, but his talent is easy to see.

yeah, dude is going to smash the rookie yards record.  And that’s before he reaches 17 games.  Approaching the records for most 100yd games for a rookie and receptions also.

and he dropped all because he ran a 4.56.  Let’s you know sometimes the 40 isn’t the end all be all.  Gotta give it to the rams.  I thought they were going to be bad for a while after the “F Them Picks” mantra.  But they’ve put together a good team.  Really puts in perspective of how great AR was that game

well, I’m happy we got our late round draft gem in Jaylon jones.  We needed corners more anyway lol

We don’t Know that Blackmon , Kenny, Pittman or Grover will be back. So I think it’s safe to say any of those 4 positions could be addressed. I can almost guarantee you that Safety is not high up on the list of positions to draft. They spent  a 5th round pick on Daniel Scott who they were really high on before his injury. If I had to bet on it. They try to resign Blackmon and if he walks they will slide Nick Cross in and let him get a crack at the starting position. They’re more than comfortable with Rod Thomas play so I don’t foresee him getting the boot anytime soon. He isn’t a world beater but the kid is solid and consistent. Scott will return to prove to be depth or compete for a shot at the starting role of Blackmon walks. I don’t see them spending a high value pick on the safety position tbh. They may draft a developmental guy in the later rounds.

Oh and btw Harrison was officially moved to LBer he is no longer considered a safety, or playing in that position. Not sure if you knew that.

I’m assuming since we have the cap space and we’re high on those guys and ballards rep for retaining our own, most of if not all of those guys will be back.  They’ve earned contracts.  Only way I see someone walking is if we’re fine with what we have (ex. Letting okereke walk) or someone swooping in and overpaying.

im not saying use a high draft pick to get a safety because I think that should be spent on WR or DE.  If we do draft a FS, I hope it doesn’t affect grabbing a talented WR or DE.  And as I said above, use the capital.  We could sign in FA.  But I do agree, out of the positions I listed, FS is at the bottom of it.  I’d be ok with going with Thomas next year, but if an upgrade is there and doesn’t compromise a position of need, then pull the trigger.

Regarding the rest of what you said, my reply would be if this team is not looking to improve in areas of need and instead still giving shots to players who have been here and sat, then this team is going to waste ARs rookie contract.  Look around the league, the template is to get your QB of the future and build strategically during his rookie deal (ex. Hurts, purdy, Mahomes).  I would honestly be disappointed in Ballard if he’d be ok with letting Blackmon walk and sliding nick cross into the starting role.

Of course, this is just my opinion.  I’m going off of what other successful franchises have done recently.  Regarding us, we’ve built the foundation for almost 10 years.  We have our qb now and we just lost a year from him.  So the clock is ticking.  Time to start putting talent around him.

Exactly. Anyone that knows anything about football knows Minshew has played above average football and good in the 4th qtr of close games. He played evenly with Lamar Jackson who is arguably the MVP, outplayed QBs like Baker Mayfield,  Bryce Young, Mac Jones, and Will Levis. He is obviously better than Mitch Trubisky as well.

yeah, I have to admit I thought we were done.  I’ve even called minshew checkdown happy feet Charlie on here.  But he’s come along nice and starting to even throw it deep.

Why FS and not a CB we have Blackmon who is playing lights out, Cross, Thomas and Daniel Scott coming back off IR. We don’t know what’s the deal with Kenny if he’s coming back. And even if he doe’s outside of him we lack proper depth.

In my opinion, Thomas is cool and definitely has overplayed his draft position, but he’s not it.  Keep Blackmon at SS and get a ball hawking FS.  Cross, Thomas, and Harrison will provide nice depth and time when we go with our 3 safety packages.

Im ok with the CBs we have.  Beginning of the year I thought we were doomed with the group, but they’ve actually been solid.  Brents, Jones, and Moore are a healthy trio.  We’re getting flowers back next year.  And maybe we can pick up another player in the draft or sign a cheap vet for depth.  Jones and Brents with a year of experience under their belt should improve.  Since both of our starters at CB are on rookie deals, we could use that money to maybe go and grab an impact player.

i know with our CBs, they’ve been assisted by our pass rush, but it seems we’ll be having the same d line next year, maybe even grab a FA like chase young.  So I think we can expect the same production from that group next year.

This year has been crazy. If we would have won the browns game ( we did just not officially) we would be in the top 3 if I’m not mistaken and would have beaten the number one team in the ravens.   As bad as we have looked in some of our losses we aren’t as far away as some people think.  If Richardson can be a top 10 Qb and we have one more good draft this team can seriously do some damage next year.

What I’m hoping this team gets this upcoming offseason:

another WR1, every down pass rushing DE, FS, pass catching TE, stud LBer

Filling those spots, whether with a FA or draft pick is very doable.  Ballard has to get it done.  Spend the capital.

    we’re not that far.

  11. I’m honestly going to go with minshew.  He doesn’t have the stats but he’s the glue for this team.  As minshew goes, this team goes.  This season could’ve been an absolute disaster.  But minshew came in, steadied the ship, and has continued to improve.

if I had to go a non-qb it would be Pittman.  Started out the year with his usual dependable production but these past 5 weeks he’s turned it up another notch.  When we need a catch, he’s there.  And he’s starting to get targeted deep.  Unfortunately, that has led to his injury but hopefully he’ll be back soon.

Born there in 1954. Raised 40 miles north in Pa, listening to Chuck Thompson do play by play on WSBA and WBAL. The night I got engaged, we went to Memorial Stadium and watched Jim Palmer beat the Rangers.   Moved to Indiana in 1980. (My Wife is a Hoosier!) My Mom sent me the Sports Pages from Balt Sun, Balt News American, York Gazette, and York Daily Record. Colts followed me to Indiana in 1984.

Nice!  I was born in raised in Baltimore and currently reside there!  Somehow I ended up being a colts fan lol

I honestly think this could definitely happen.

Our defense is going to be BAD.  We’re very young and inexperienced at corner, our LB core isn’t the best, and we still are not sure about our DEs.

We have a rookie HC, we have a rookie QB who has 13 college starts under his belt.  I feel fine about the rest of our offense but those first 2 are VERY important.

I think our floor is 3 games and our ceiling is 7 games.  Who knows, AR might be way better than advertised and everything gels together.  But to say we’re only going to win 3 games isn’t a crazy thing to say.

    We’ve busted through the ceiling!

  14. Ehhh I’m indifferent on Tee Higgins.  He’s a great player for sure, but he’s not the dynamic burner I think this offense desperately needs.  We need a WR that can consistently flip the field on the outside and middle.  If we miss out on bringing Pittman back (which I doubt) then I’m down for grabbing Higgins, but otherwise I think we need to look at the draft and hopefully grab that dynamic burner.
