Ranked 111th out of 118th is terrible, this is WRs getting open regardless if they were thrown the ball.

Yup, I honestly don’t know where people were seeing Pierce getting open because eye test told me he wasn’t.

im going to sound like a broken record here, but this chart shows me there are 2 problems here.

    1.  We don’t have dynamic receivers.  If Pierce is taking his man and sometimes a safety out of the way, then where are the other receivers and tight ends?  We don’t have another player that can beat their man quickly down the field.  Short yardage, sure, but no one who can eat up those medium to deep yards.

    2.  Pierce needs to improve his route tree.  This is why I don’t think Pierce is the answer.  He’s predictable.  He’s either running a streak or a deep post.  That’s it.  Having AR is not going to make him better because HE’S not better.

I saw this the other day and have been pondering it. Pierce is asked to do the dirty work to open up the rest of the field for everyone else. He runs more vertical routes then anyone else in the league so DB's are likely keying up on that and anticipating a deep route. So he is open about 3 times a game for a deep bomb so that does still validate peoples thought of him being open frequently. All while keeping his DB and a safety away, allowing more space for everyone else.

Yup, this pretty much.  Problem is we don’t have anyone else who can do so.  We don’t have anyone who can force the defense to expose itself or compensate.

But for some reason people think because we’ll AR it will fix everything.

I do like the speed of brian thomas Jr he might be the fastest  of the wrs gets open quickly  and is off to the races

man, if Brian Thomas is available I say we take him.  Trade back into the first in the 20s if possible without giving up too much and grab kool aid for corner.  If bowers is still available I’d say grab him instead.

I agree but if you read Pride of Detroit, the equivalent of Stampede Blue, you will see that most of the fans agreed with Campbell's decisions. Many thought they should have taken the points in the third quarter but others said that given that this is how they played all year, they had no problem going for it on 4th down the two times in the second half. They feel the players did not execute.

I thought they should have taken the points. It was not hindsight.

True, what they did was consistent with who Dan is.  But I have a problem with the contradiction.  If he went for it on the 4, then ok, all I’d have to say is dial back the aggressiveness.  But to go for it on the 28 and not the 4 just shows me whatever he was thinking wasn’t it and was a bad move on his part.  They’re correct, you can’t help it when players don’t execute, but I can’t just get with the contradiction of playing it safe in the first half and then going for it in the second when they needed to score.

Just watching Pacheco being so versatile as a seventh rounder makes me wish Ballard was more effective year after year

One, we have JT who is a top 5, maybe even 3 running back in the league.

Two, they have pat Mahomes.  When you have not only a good qb, but FUTURE HOFer at QB, it takes less to build a winner because they cover up so much.  As colts fans, we should definitely understand that from watching Peyton manning latter years here.

  6. When I watch other teams, I like to take notes for myself and our team.  This is what I got from this weekend:

    - Sorry, but as much as it hurts me to say this, Pat Mahomes is 2nd best qb of all

time.  We’ll see where he ends up in 16 years but right now he’s behind brady.  He has no peers currently.  And he has more playoff wins than our beloved Peyton manning.  I’m pretty sure he’ll catch up in stats.  Andy Reid and Pat are the new Belicheck and Brady.

    - The ravens are a perfect example of what we don’t want our qb to be.  Purdy is the perfect example of what we want our qb to be.  Monken took away Lamar’s greatest strength and he paid for it.  Lamar didn’t know when to use his legs and was horrible against the blitz.  Purdy ran when the opportunity presented itself or when there were no other options.  Ravens only rushed 16 times.  We need AR to be more purdy like.  Maybe at max 3 designed runs (options, draws) but other than that everything else should be opportunistic scrambles to create big plays off unscripted moments.  We don’t need AR to throw +30 times.  AR is absolutely correct when he says he shouldn’t change how he plays, but the coaches need to change how we use him to prevent him getting injured.

    - Dan Campbell crapped the bed.  He kicks the field goal on the 4 in the first half but go for it on 28?  The field goal in the second half would’ve made it a THREE possession game.  The playcalling in the second half was horrible.  Hopefully the lions will bounce back next year but idk with Ben Johnson leaving.

    - we need SPEED on offense.  Our fastest players in regards to speed (not agility) on our offense are AR, JT, and Pierce.  That’s it.  Ballard is absolutely right when he says we need to get more explosive on offense and that means fast skilled players.  I know, a lot of people are in love with Brock but if he can’t beat linebackers in a foot race and find open spots in zones then we’re going to see the same thing next year.  We need an outside beater at the WR position.  Someone we can run sweeps, deep posts, and streaks to that can keep the defense honest.

Are you guys actually rooting for the ravens or just AGAINST the chiefs?

I don’t have a dog in the fight.  I live in Baltimore and I respect the heck out of Mahomes, kelce, and Andy.  So it doesn’t matter to me who wins.

I have to admit though, Mahomes is amazing.  How did he end up with Andy, idk, but that isn’t fair lol

You hit the nail on the head.  They need an offensive minded coach.

They need an every down running back.  They need to limit the amount of times Allen throws and runs.  I can see them going after Derrick Henry.

regarding their offense, they have the tools (even though they were without gabe tonight), but it’s not as good as it should be.  They do need an offensive minded coach badly.

and as others have said, their defense should be better also.

Throw slants to Pittman or Downs

    Screens to Pittman or JT

    Run bootlegs

    Throw wheel routes to RBs

    Draw play

Also you have a QB that can run and will make them pay with his legs

    Many options there

I don't disagree about Pierce, but he's open quite a bit and not been thrown to

The options you’ve listed, we actually do all of those, minus the bootlegs and running qb.  I’m not saying those won’t work, but the only difference I see with those is that AR will throw to Pierce.

the problem with our offense this year wasn’t just “we didn’t throw to Pierce when he was open”.  We lacked dynamic players.  I guess what I’m saying is we need players who can beat their man one on one, who doesn’t need a coach or scheme or qb to help them.

Trust me, pressure on the qb changes everything.  We will see next year.  I may be wrong and Pierce turns into an all pro.  But going off what I’ve seen, Pierce running streaks isn’t the answer to making our offense more explosive.

Why are folks broadening this topic to the entire Ballard career?  It was a good move to trade up ahead of JAX to take JT.  I wouldn't use the word steal or luck to describe picking JT.  JT was a known quantity who has played like that known quantity, and Ballard made a move to get him.  Good for Ballard..

See, the issue is you’re presenting the Raimann pick as if he threw a dart at the board and got lucky.  I’m pretty sure Ballard and his team had a list, predicted where players would be picked, and executed as the draft played itself out.  That isn’t luck bro, that’s being prepared.  It takes a lot to draft a player.  It isn’t an internet simulation.  It takes A LOT of work and working components.  So to discredit this pick as lucky is literally slapping Ballard and his team (scouts, coaches, etc) in the face.

  11. 1 minute ago, DougDew said:

Ok, he's top 5...... of what list.  I don't know how there can be a linear comparison of a GM who has been here 7 years with other GMs who have been a GM 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,,,,,,,,9, 10 ,years.   Kind of a made up comparison for those who like lists I guess..

But  I don't have an issue with a list calling him top 5 on it.  Doesn't make his lucky picks steals.

BTW, I said the Leonard pick was great....at the time he made it.  When the folks who persistently criticize the "junior GMs" here didn't even know who Leonard was...and that's why it was great...he saw something others probably didn't.  But none of my favorable opinion back then was based on love...its based on rational thought.

Bro, lists aren’t the end all be all but when it comes to giving your OPINION vs something that has been researched and comes to a COMPUTED ranking, then yeah what you says really holds no value.

and you keep using the word lucky.  How many other GMs get LUCKY as Ballard? lol like dude, it’s comical that you refuse to say this was a genius pick by Ballard (so far).  I mean let’s use your logic, he was drafted in the THIRD round, so that means 31 other GMs were UNLUCKY?  lol Luck is nothing but being prepared for an opportunity when it presents itself.

Im not the biggest Ballard and I don’t think he’s the best GM, but he’s a good one that has flaws that holds him back.  See, it’s ok to give fair assessments.

Aikman just discussed the woes of the Eagles offense and attributed some of it to "missing Shane Steichen."

"There's an art to calling plays in this league, and we've seen what Steichen was able to do in Indianapolis this year."

It's obvious they have felt his absence. Just like the Chiefs have missed Bieniemy this year.

Sirianni is starting to give me Reich vibes.  He can be a great coach when surrounded by good coordinators, but when it’s on him it’s not the same.

I quickly realized we had a good coach when I saw the eagles was not the same without him.  People dont realize how impressive Steichen is, as a ROOKIE HC.

Nah.  Thinking he drafts just like other GMs who have random hits and misses is not hate.  It might seem like hate from the perspective of a reader who lives in an inescapable black hole of positivity and doesn't realize it, but who knows.

It was a while back, but there was a post that showed that Ballard is one of the best drafting GMs in the league.  Think he was top 5.  So “think” all you want but the numbers says otherwise.

But let’s just say he does draft like any other GM.  Relevant to this post, list me the GMs since he’s been ours that have DRAFTED top 10 LTs past the second round.

yeah, the hate is real.  It’s fine to criticize someone when it’s needed, but to refuse to give someone their props when it’s time to is the definition of hating.

    Agreed on bold.

Pierce ran more yards than any WR in the league this last season....and was open quite a bit, just Minshew wouldn't throw it. Maddening.

I think that would force a lot of 1 on 1's if Richardson was back there who can sling bombs on a rope. Safeties will have to respect both under and over.

It all works out if that happens.

Pittman is either open underneath, or Pierce is open up top. If both are covered, you know my boy Downs will be open. :)

Ehh I get what you’re saying but all of that crumbles when we play a defense that can apply pressure and get to the QB.

We need someone who’s dynamic that can run a lot of routes on the outside to counter the pressure and blitzes.  A streak will take too long for Pierce to get open when AR is being pressured.  Pierce is physically gifted, but he’s not dynamic, at least I haven’t seen it.  Pierce with an elite route tree would be almost Moss-like, but he doesn’t have it.

We honestly should look like the bengals offense.  They have their dynamic outside receiver with chase and their intermediate to short outside receiver with Higgins.  We have our Higgins (which I don’t know why some on here want him so bad).  We don’t have our chase.
