The Lions don't seem interested in McDaniels. According to reports Stafford loves Jim Bob Cooter and they probably don't want to put an offensive HC on top of him. From what I've seen Patricia is the prohibitive favorite there.

Thank you for getting this thread back on the topic of McDaniels.

  2. Keep seeing Toub's name mentioned, but as far as we know, there is no interview scheduled.  He has not interviewed with any other teams, either.  Seems to me if he's a viable candidate, he would have been interviewed by somebody by now.  Kind of makes me nervous...let's say McDaniels is the favorite now, but we can't hire him until NE is out of the playoffs (probably Super Bowl).

Then, what if McDaniels goes elsewhere or stays in NE?  I'd hate to think that Toub is our Plan B.  I keep hearing how organized he is, leadership, etc., but if NO ONE else in the NFL has even requested an interview with him, then I question is qualifications and capabilities.

Check him out. I really like him. I wouldn't mind if we spent our second round pick on him.

He's bigger and maybe a bit more physical than Evans and Roquan. I love his tackling and he has speed to chase sideline to sideline.

He won't fit in here...the guy knows how to tackle :sarcasm:  Seriously, he looks really good and I like his length and technique.

  4. If Smith is truly #4, then he won't be available after the first 10 picks will he?  I know we need a guy like that, but I doubt we can get him even with a trade down.  Will be interesting.  I just watched a video of Bradley Chubb...he is quick, but most of the plays he made were against terrible left tackles or he was unblocked.  Maybe others have seen a different highlight reel.

  5. Of the names we've seen, there are no current college coaches listed.  I know in the press conference it was mentioned that they will search all over for candidates.  Just wondering if any college coaches will be called in for an interview.  Ballard also said it would be an internal process, but that's difficult to keep mum with all the media outlets keeping tabs on things.

My hope is that the next HC is someone who can make game-time decisions, be good at clock management and oversee adjustments as the game progresses.  Obviously, a very good coaching staff is needed from top to bottom, so I don't put a lot of credence on whether a guy has been an OC or DC in the past.  Build a strong staff and let the HC manage them and the games.

  6. Not a surprise at all.  I got to watch this guy play a lot since I live very close to Louisville.  Amazing athlete, but there are doubts about his NFL quarterback qualities.  I know he improved a lot in his passing game this past season.  Could see him as a multi-positional player with his speed and instincts.  I look forward to watching his career and he's an amazing person on top of being an amazing football player.

  7. We don't have Gore, would have to re-sign him.  We won't know if Luck is 100% until he actually plays, so I feel we need to address the needs we have in FA and the draft.  With an improved OL, Brissett can be our QB if Luck isn't available.

Wouldn't want to use our #3 on a QB if we don't end up needing one.

  8. It all depends on what we do in free agency.  That will go a long way in determining what we do in the draft.  But, the #3 spot can land us a difference maker if we pick at #3, or can land us additional picks, including a potential difference maker in the top 10 and BPA's with the picks acquired.  We need BPA no matter the position in order to improve.  Lots of needs, so taking BPA will certainly meet a need someplace on the roster.

Lots of options, but we're in the catbird seat and can really cash in with a trade down.

  9. McDaniels has obviously been successful as the OC in New England, and from what I've read he has matured a lot since losing the job at Denver.  He is still young and a scheme that uses our talent on offense AND that gets the ball our of Luck's hands quickly to help protect him would be beneficial.  Tom Brady is not the most physically gifted QB out there, but the design of the offense allows him to excel.

Plus, if we can TAKE something away from NE for a change and have it work for us, that's icing on the cake!

    LOL :)

He is going to demote himself from Executive VP of football operations of the Jaguars to become HC of the Colts, ya right!!!

My dark horse is Rams OC Matt LeFleur, very prolific record as QB coach, and a BIG part of the Rams' success this year.

Well, Coughlin would be a dark, dark horse.  Thought I'd bet on a loooong shot with the chance to take credit if it happened :)

  11. If we have a good, or even great OL next year after FA signings and the draft, then any RB can run through holes created by the OL.  Not many RBs can run behind an OL that can't run block.  If a RB gets the ball and has defenders in the backfield or clogging up the line of scrimmage, then chances are they don't succeed.

Let's build that OL and then see how Mack and Turbin perform.
