The G-men used that term to play undersized DTs in the middle to win with quickness against bigger linemen against teams that they felt would pass more than run. They did it in both SBs with JPP, Justin Tuck etc. vs Brady in 2007 & 2011. The fumble that was forced against Brady also employed a package similar to the NASCAR package, using Brandon Graham inside.

In other words, excellent 1-gap UTs with lightning quickness to shoot gaps primarily but also enough strength to play inside. Is that a bit more clear? :)

I was gonna say the Intimidator and the King :)

He supposedly addressed leaving NE today in a meeting with Belichick, and waiting to do that seems like a personal choice, and aimed to lessen distraction before the SB, not necessarily a bad thing.  Today, Patricia made his hiring official.... Maybe McDaniel's is letting his contemporary have his day in the sun first?  Also, his new team, ( Indy ) may want a day or so to digest and mourn the loss of a member of the organization in a tragic accident before announcing a big-headline thing that could take away from Pound-Cake's short, but well deserved memorial.....

I concur.  The tragic death of Edwin Jackson has probably changed up the scheduling of the official announcement.  It will happen, just maybe a day or two later than first planned.

This is a weird one but... According to Tony Pauline the Colts have Southern Mississippi WR Korey Robertson graded as a day 2 pick right now:

    Here's some highlights. Looks interesting:

I like what he does after he catches the ball....but, he would need to choose another jersey number :)

  4. Reading the interview with Chris Ballard just solidified my confidence in him to take this team forward.  The man works tirelessly and also works closely with his scouting staff.  I just feel like he is a real football man and knows what will be successful for the long term.  He's not just going to plug holes with short term big money FA players.

He wants a unified locker room, players who work hard and competition at every position.  He's creating a work ethic and desire in his players to succeed.

    Our future is very bright!!

  5. So, by having to wait another TWO WEEKS for our new head coach (along with the Lions, apparently), how does this effect our off-season preparation?  I would think it puts us at a dis-advantage somewhat.  I know a lot has been discussed between Chris Ballard and McDaniels during the interview and the one coming this week, but it's not like they can meet and talk daily.

I believe ALL teams looking for new head coaches need to WAIT until the day after the Super Bowl to announce new hires.  Obviously, teams not hiring new coaches can be preparing for next season right away, but I think the league should look into leveling the playing field a bit for teams hiring new head coaches.

Look, win or lose, it will take a few days for McDaniels to be in-house and working for us...maybe the Wednesday after the Super Bowl at the earliest.

  6. Maybe the Browns decide to sign a FA quarterback who is established and doesn't require a lot of time to develop, then use #1 for Barkley and #4 for BPA.  Seems that would improve that team much faster than taking another QB in the draft and rely on them to start from day one.  If you sign a QB via free agency for 2 or 3 year deal, then you draft a QB next year and let them develop.

  7. I like the fact that he appears to be bringing in coordinators who are not retreads.  Coaches on the rise who are hungry and ready to prove themselves.  Brings a new mindset and enthusiasm to the organization.  A lot of the OC's and DC's that are making lateral moves, or moves back into a position they held previously are just trying to stay employed.  I always wondered why an OC or DC from a sub-.500 team would draw any interest from other organizations.  Why hire someone from a losing team if you're trying to build a winner?  I know the losing wasn't all their fault, but success breeds success...go out and hire coaches who come from winning organizations.  They must have been at least a part of that success.

  8. I find it odd that colleges can hire a coach from another university before its season is completed.  For example, several teams had interim coaches for their bowl games, because the head coach took a job elsewhere.

I wonder why the NFL requires a teams' season to be completed for any of their coaches can agree/accept another job for next season?  Obviously, they wouldn't leave their team while still in the playoffs.  They can go to interviews, so why not let them accept an offer, too?  Seems it gives teams searching for coaches that do not have their team in the playoffs an unfair advantage.  Some teams have replaced head coaches and assistants already and we, the Giants, the Lions and the Cardinals have to wait to get our head coaching vacancy filled.  Also puts us weeks behind other teams in preparing for free agency and the draft in conjunction with a coaches' scheme, etc.

Doyel  obviously doesn’t buy it according to his article yesterday. He’s in the once a punk, always a punk school. He’s probably right about McDaniels but if being beloved was important, then Pagano would be a Hall of Fame coach — and guys like Lombardi, Belichick and Noll would have been failures.

Doyel speaks from experience in regards to this...

  10. He was a class act, a good man and I wish him all the best.  To watch how the city, state and fans rallied around him during his medical battle was inspiring.  I was at the game when one of the cheerleaders had her head shaved to show her support.

I am also disgusted by those on here that had to make this "positive" post into yet another one filled with negative comments.  Chuck Pagano beat cancer and couldn't wait to come back and coach this team.  His appreciation of the fans, city and organization shows how much class he has.  He didn't have to post that letter, but he did.  I couldn't believe the first comment on Twitter that showed up below the post was someone bashing him.

I hope that if I'm ever faced with cancer, that I can have half as much courage and fight in me.  Yes, I was critical of his coaching decisions sometimes, but I never insulted the man or his character.  I knew he was trying his best, and in the end that wasn't enough to keep his job.  But, he still has his integrity, his family and his faith...that's all that really matters.

  11. I say the Browns...not the immediate future, but it appears they're getting the front office straightened out with football people.  They have the #1 and #4 picks coming up and money to spend on FA.  Plus, when you're 0-16, there's only one direction to go...up!
