  1. Let's see - Choose 1 Option:

    1)  Sign with the Colts, get pounded week after week and then sit when Luck returns

    2)  Sign with the Pats, watch Tom Brady for 3 years, maybe win a Super Bowl or two and barely break a sweat.

I believe he made the right choice, of those were his options...no evidence he had option #1

  2. We were not involved in any phone conversations between Ballard and other GMs the past couple of days, so we don't know what, or if anything was offered for any of our players.  That's why he's the GM and we're not (thank goodness).  Maybe Ballard did the best for this team by NOT trading players.  Making a deal, just for the sake of making a deal, is not smart.

If Gore, Davis, Moncrief and Castonzo had all been traded for another team's 7th rounder next year, then half our practice squad would have been called up to finish what would likely be a winless second half of the season and we'd have four 7th round picks next year to re-fill our practice squad.  Does that translate into more wins in 2018?  Does that make the fans happy?  Does that put fans in the seats for the rest of this season?

Sometime the best action is no action at all.  As far as we know, he took calls, had discussions and made decisions for which is is paid to make.  Lots of other teams with equal or worse records than the Colts also chose to do nothing.

To me, if you make a trade at the deadline, it is to fill a need in order to improve your playoff chances this season and not hurt your future.  Everyone wants to make a win-win trade so it helps both teams.  Trades don't always work out that way, but I'm sure that's the intention.

  3. Seeing several of our players mentioned as trade targets or available for a trade.  Appears if any of these go down, that were are in rebuilding mode, for sure.  It's much tougher in the NFL, because you have so many players involved.  Roster of 53 with 22 players involved on offense or defense on each play.  Lots of pieces to assemble and get working at the same time at a level to make a playoff run.

In baseball, you are looking at 8 every day starters who play both offense and defense, so adding pieces is a much smaller task...even smaller with 5 players in the NBA.

I can only imagine how overwhelming it is for Chris Ballard to look at our depth chart and know we only have so many draft picks next year and only so much money to spend.  I believe he's trying to lay a foundation, add players to fill the big holes, hope that Luck returns to form in 2018 and then proceed from there.

If you look at the Houston Astros, they did a complete overhaul and rebuild, then added some veterans to the young foundation of their team and they are in the World Series.  As I said, it's fewer players at the major league level, but that formula worked.  Not sure if it can in the NFL, because playing careers are generally much shorter and you can't be as patient to let that young core of players develop.

Whatever happens today, I hope we can add some picks and then let his draft picks in 2018 determine if the trades were worthwhile or not.

  4. 2 hours ago, Narcosys said:

I completely understood it. They ruled that it was a fumble. They also ruled that the recovering was out of bounds. You have to recover the ball, and have possession, before you go out of bounds. We did not. So when there is a fumble that goes out of bounds, fumbles cannot progress the ball and therefore Cinci got it back where they fumbled it.

    Not hard.

I know all of that, was just confused on the referee's explanation.  He said we won the challenge, but when we didn't get the ball, I got confused, even though I know our guy was out of bounds.  As someone pointed out, Pagano had to challenge quickly, likely before a replay was put on the video board.

  5. I know most of today's conversations have involved possible trades and T.Y.'s reaction to a question from the media.  But, I haven't seen mention of one thing from yesterday's game that I expected to see today -- the Challenge on the play when the Bengals receiver fumbled the ball forward and it was caught in the air, but our player had a foot out of bounds.

I was very confused once the challenge was explained (poorly explained, I might add) by the referee, but also confused as to what exactly was being challenged. From the explanation, it seemed as though what Pagano explained he was challenging wasn't exactly what was ruled upon.  But, I'm open to being corrected by others on here.

The announcers kept saying that it was a fumble, but our player had a foot out of bounds when he caught it, so the Bengals keep the ball.  But, when the referee explained the ruling, he said it was a fumble and that our defender recovered the ball and was inbounds (although it was only one foot inbounds).  But, the Bengals maintained possession??  How can a player recover a fumble, have the referee say our guy recovered it, but the ball stay with the Bengals?  Or, did we win the challenge based upon what Pagano asked for, but he asked for the wrong thing?

My other thought has to do with our receivers dropping passes they have to catch as NFL receivers.  JB made some terrific passes, only to have Aiken and T.Y. drop them or have them go right through their hands.  Most of the time, they didn't have a defender right there blocking their vision or sticking a hand in to interfere with the catch, they just didn't catch very good passes that they should have caught.

It's tough to blame JB, he's still learning the system and learning to play QB in the NFL, but he obviously has talent and a great arm.  His veteran receivers are not doing their jobs.

I don't think we should trade T.Y., because I know he is very talented and we are short on talent with this team.  But, he needs to be accountable and take the blame when he's responsible for being part of a loss.

  6. This one could go either way...last week's debacle could result in an even worse outing if this team has given up.  OR, last week's embarrassment was so bad that pride will bounce back and put forth a much better effort, or maybe even a win.  But, it will be hard to protect our QB since the OL is all under the bus.

I say we win 20-17 and TY doesn't even get a pass thrown to him.  JB decides to utilize the other receivers and Mack out of the backfield.

  7. I will echo the appreciation of BR-549 to the Forum, because I won the tickets for the game against the 49ers, then later realized that was the day of the Peyton Manning tribute.  I took my 11 year old son and as we walked around to the north side of the stadium to take photos of the statue, we had the thrill of seeing Peyton there signing autographs and posing for photos.

We didn't actually get to meet him, but I was able to snap a couple of photos from 20 feet away.  We enjoyed the jersey number retirement ceremony and the unveiling of his name on the Ring of Honor.  And, then got to see a thrilling overtime win!

    My thanks to the Colts!!

  8. Who knows...there have been some crazy games this season with teams winning games they probably shouldn't have won, or even have a small chance of winning going into the game.

I'm not focused on wins at this point, I just want to see effort, some individual improvement and keeping people off the injury report.  Sure, we've lost games, lost confidence in the coaching staff (an ongoing trend), Pagano has lost the locker room, but some of the players lost to serious injury that can affect us beyond this season is really concerning.  I know we're not the only team in the league suffering serious injuries, but it seems we have more than our fair share.

  9. I recorded the game and watched the 2nd half yesterday morning.  I've looked for something on the Forum about Seattle's decision to go for it on 4th down late in the game when they had a large lead and were in field goal range.  The play resulted in a touchdown and there were no comments from Michaels or Collinsworth about them NOT kicking a field goal in that situation, especially given the struggles of Seattle's kicker.  Seems they'd want to give him a chance to make a FG, and to not run up the score.

  10. Do you prefer one over the other?  Do you flip back and forth?  One thing I noticed last night, and it seems to happen to us a lot...the pick before us gets lots of coverage while we're on the clock.  I realize it was the Eagles last night and I wasn't surprised they got more air time.  But, our pick was in and the NFL Network goes to a commercial break, so I switch to ESPN and they did the same.

I noticed how quickly our pick came in, so I knew Ballard wanted someone badly who was available.  But, we had to wait, and then when the pick was announced, they mentioned it for about a minute on NFL and went to ANOTHER COMMERCIAL BREAK!!  I switch to ESPN and hear Gruden slamming our pick, go back to NFL Network hoping for more talk about Hooker, but they've already moved on.

Seems this happens often with the coverage of our picks...less time spent talking about the Colts pick than other teams.  Maybe I'm biased, but I felt like we got short changed last night.

  11. Obviously, it depends on who is there when we pick.  If there's been a run on the CB position, then we may be forced to take a CB and focus on pass rush on our next pick, or vice versa.  If we go CB, the our secondary gets much better with the pick of Hooker in round 1.  We will need a strong secondary with the weapons our division opponents added last night and have added in recent drafts.

  12. Back to the original post/topic, I like what I saw in the video (understanding it's highlights) and liked the strip  sacks and the times he would come back and make a tackle if his blocker took him away from the QB originally.  He has a motor, for sure, and wonder if he'll wear 93 here in Indy?
