  1. Men who commit these types of crimes don't deserve a trial, only a slow painful death. And while he may not receive the proper sentence, he will when he has to account for his actions before God.  With that said, my prayers go out to AP and his family (and hope that the media respects their privacy at this time). A parent should never have to bury their own child...RIP little guy..

  2. That was prior to the acl surgery..

He didn't impress me in Saturday.. Lookedmoutmof shape and fatigued.

If your the first pick in the 2014 Draft you take Bridgewater hands down, you would be a fool not too.

That's a bold statement claiming that Bridgewater is the obvious #1 pick. While Teddy is good, the quality of his opponents is average at best. The conference he plays in, the American Athletic Conference, is a joke compared to the SEC, Pac-12, and B1G. Furthermore, even Louisville's non-conference schedule is easy...with Kentucky probably being the most difficult opponent (which is the only power-conference school he plays against). And you mention about the Florida game, and how he did well. The thing you have to keep in mind is he had a whole month to prepare for Florida's defense; just to reiterate, he had a whole month to prepare for a Florida D that probably underestimated Charlie Strong's program. That's a long time. Anyways, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that Teddy isn't going to be good in the NFL. But just because you watched one game of him, and "my friend who studies college football told me about him" doesn't mean it's a no-brainier to select him #1 overall (or that he could very well be better than Luck/RGIII).

  3. Okay, so the choices are the following:

Go to Minnesota where you could potentially get frostbite from being outside for only 5 minutes. Or, assuming you get to the stadium a-okay, have the roof collapse on you because of all the snow.

Go to NOLA where you have to supply your own lighting since apparently the Superdome doesn't pay their own bills.

    OR

Go to Indy where you'll find the most charismatic, welcoming people that inhabit this earth (not to mention the best looking).

Yep, only Goodell and company would take 6-7 months to make a decision that's clear as daylight (I was non-bias throughout this whole evaluation process, of course).

Apparently, this isn't his first rodeo. While I like his spunk, he just needs to learn to stay away from any opposing, living entity. He reminds me of the Little Engine That Couldn't. He continually tries to gain the respect of his peers by making a tackle; yet, despite his perseverance, he keeps getting murked and de-cleated by opposing players. Keep your chin up Jon Ryan, you are a critical component of the Seahawk's family. Without guys like you, the team physican wouldn't get earn a living.

  5. The funny thing is, once Donald has a rough stretch, everyone will forgot this and say something along the lines,"Cut Brown/Lynch Brown/Trade Brown." I honestly feel that Donald is undervalued and under appreciated. True, he hasn't lived up to being a first round pick, and maybe Donald was a reach; but, like someone before me mentioned, if he was drafted a couple of rounds later, our perception of him would be different. Hopefully Donald continues to contribute and keep this ball rolling. With that said, I do appreciate your creative, positive take. Nice change up from the usual "Get Rid of XXX" thread of the week that's not constructive criticism whatsoever.

  6. if it happens versus Denver we are toast.

Assuming I understand you right, you're saying that Peyton will burn us with his feet? Peyton's legs are the least of my worries even with our contain issues. If he wants to run versus using his arm, be my guest Peyton.

  7. ...is making some less than impressive decisions and throws.

I understand that you, like most of our fanbase, believe that Luck is a god and can only play perfect; however, our QB is human. With that said, Luck went 16-29 229 yds 2 TD and ZERO interceptions against a great D. I'll take that any day of the week, especially against a D like Sherman and company.

  8. 8-8 640 yards 8 TD's

    1 rush, 58 yds 1 rushing TD

1 99 yd TD reception (Our defense will make a goal line stop at the one. Thereafter, Luck performs a flawless play-action to Richardson, throws it, but Cliff Avril deflects the pass. Luck then catches his deflected pass and takes it to the house).

  9. He's also a top 3 CB in the NFL. I believe he can talk if he wants. He can back it up so why not

Just because he is good doesn't mean he has to be arrogant. Even with that being said, a lot of his talk goes outside the realm of his playing ability; ex: Sherman degrading Skip Bayless on live televison and saying stuff like, "I'm better at life than you," etc. Come on, who does that? The guy needs to shut up and just let his play do the talking. Obviously he's capable of it because he didn't say much, or at least not as much, when the PED controversy came about.

  10. To be honest, if I had to choose between Peterson or Sherman...I would choose Peterson. Sherman runs his mouth way too much. Sure, he backs it up most of the time, but I would too if I took PEDS...oh snap. Thought that last statement was appropriate based on who we are playing next week  :D

  11. I say we dump Gabbert. He was awful in every way....... Wait... What.....oh really? The Jags?

    Oh wait...... Never mind

Gabbert just needs to quit instead of being fired. On top of that, he should get sterilized and isolate himself from the game of football entirely. No fanbase should ever have to watch their team be led by a Gabbert.

  12. Why Did Peyton throw the pick to Tracy Porter in the Super Bowl.....

Everyone knows why he threw that pick. Peyton wanted the kids of Africa to wear some decent clothing for once. I mean, would an Ethiopian rather have a Saints T-shirt or a Colts T-shirt? Exactly. That's not even mentioning the atrocious Patriots t-shirts they received the year before. Man, Peyton is the most selfless and giving person I know.

  13. Love him or hate him Jim has always wanted what's best for this organization and his attitude to "win now" mentality has always intrigued me as a fan..

I love the aggressive style Irsay and Grigson have when it comes to targeting players and doing whatever it takes to make that particular player a Indianapolis Colt.

Some may be annoyed by his tweets but as a fan I find it rather exciting..The waiting game always has me anxious and we all know that we all feel that way until the trade either happens or falls apart right before our very eyes..

Jim's a good owner for the city, players and the fans..

He has tken us to the big dance twice already and he has brought us home one championship..

I believe we will once again get there with the way this team is shaping up..

How do you find Jim Irsay's tweets exciting? You have to decipher almost every tweet he types lol. As for him being our owner, I'm satisfied with him. I wouldn't necessarily say we have the best owner, but when I look at owners like Jerry Jones or Daniel Snyder..we're very fortunate indeed.

  14. Just because a person has never driven a race car that doesn't mean they can't recognize a poor NASCAR driver when they see one either. Translation: The evaluation process can still be carried out with no real NFL experience to show for it. Sure, experience is an asset, but sometimes, winning a roster spot is as simple as which athlete can we pay less to in salary plain & simple.

I'm not trying to imply that we, as fans, can't recognize a poor player in the NFL. Sure, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to notice that Painter is not a good player relative to most QB's in the NFL. The point I was trying to make was the fact that it's silly for us to criticize and "make fun" of Painter when he's 1000x better than most people who inhabit earth. It's like me talking about my chemistry professor and saying, "Compared to the other chemistry professors I've had in the past, this guy blows when it comes to teaching and knowing his stuff." It's silly to criticize him because that professor knows a lot more chemistry than I will ever dream of and can therefore teach it better probably (poor analogy, I know). Sure, I can tell which professors are poor relative to others, but it doesn't make any sense, in my opinion, to ridicule someone when he/she is better than you in that specific "skill" or "craft." JMO though.

  15. I don't see how this news warranted a thread (but I suppose it's not officially the start of the regular season yet...so I guess I understand, kind of lol). With that said, I always find it funny when people "criticize" bad players in the NFL, or any other professional sport for that matter. The thing we have to keep in mind is the fact that Painter is better than 99% of everybody living on this planet (that includes ourselves). So, even though he doesn't start and such, he's still a pretty decent player...otherwise he wouldn't be in the NFL.

  16. Well, apparently you don't remember who we were trying to get, lol. Like you mentioned, Vontae was injured for most of the season, so until he stays healthy for a whole season and maintains that level of play..I'll reserve my judgement. With that being said, though, Vontae does look promising...besides his voice, he's not going to intimidate any receiver with his voice lol.

  17. Well, if Bradshaw/Ballard fumbles against SD..I bet Shareece Wright will think twice about scooping up the fumble..unless if he wants his clock cleaned again by Luck (assuming Wright wins the starting role this year, of course). Just in case he forgot, Andrew could send him a post card..a week prior to the game....

  18. Have you seen the amount of free clothes a college kid gets if they are on an athletic team? They get a t-shirt for just about anything, sweats, travel clothes, shoes and what not.  No it's not built into the scholarship but they are still getting it from the school and they don't pay for themselves.  Are they going to be dressy super nice clothes?  No.  Are they clothes that college kids wear all the time?  Yes.  So that's what I mean by clothes.

If a college kid is on a full-ride college scholarship the college picks up the cost of things that go with class that can be obtained at the local college book store IE the cost of lab costs.  That's built into the cost of the class because most schools schedule those classes as a lab just for that very reason.  If I didn't have to pay for $20,000 a year to go to school I think I would be able to cover the costs of a calculator and not complain.

At most schools you do not have to have a car to go to school.  A lot of schools you can walk around them to get to where you need or you can get a ride from a friend to get where you have to be just like any other college kid that can't afford the parking permit.  It is not required to attend college.  So it is not a basic need.  It's an added perk.  Also, most schools have a relatively cheap parking option that might require a further walk to get to your car but if you are truly cash strapped it's an option you can use.  For instance my school offered parking at the football stadium of all places for $45 a year.  The only catches were you couldn't park your car there on game days (parking on campus on the weekends was free) and it was a bit of a walk to get to the car.  Like anything in life the closer I wanted to park the more I had to pay.

If you look at the costs these kids have to pay for outside of their scholarship they are minimal when compared to what if covered n their college scholarship.  Maybe rather than always looking for me at some point they should be grateful that they are getting something that has a value of $20,000 or more a year that they might not other wise be able to afford.  On top of that if they use it they are being educated to be able to get a job that they wouldn't be able to get without it and because they can play a game they are getting an opportunity that many do not and that is a chance to get an education and better your life.

That 5% of money goes towards paying for the staff it takes to run the NCAA, the lawyer they have to have, and other things that come with running the NCAA, like organizing and running all the NCAA tournaments for all the sports across all the levels in the NCAA.  That's a big chunk of change too.  Again, it's a non profit organization they can't just sit there and pocket all the money they are watched to make sure they don't just do that.  Everything they bring in has to be accounted for at the end of the year.   You can point to the president of the organization and say wow that's a lot but look at how much commissioner of for profit sports make, Roger Goodell for example made 29.49 million to run the NFL in 2011.  David Stern earns $20 million plus to run the NBA, Bud Selig gets 22 million to run MLB, Gary Bettman gets close to 10 million a year to run hockey, yes hockey.  1.6 million doesn't look so large now does it?

I am saying the student athletes are already being compensated with between $20,000 to $40,000 (if on a full athletic scholarship) a year that people treat like is nothing.

Well a parking permit isn't necessarily a perk when you live off campus, unless you want to walk back and forth to the practice field and your apartment; but true..not necessarily a need. As for the extra lab and other school related costs, those don't get covered..at least at my school. I go to a B1G school and know a few football players personally, they had to pay for i-clickers, lab googles, cd-discs, etc out of their pocket. It may be different at your school, but I don't see how the NCAA would allow that.

As for the free ride situation, lol..I'm not saying it's a bad deal. Paying for school atm, I can appreciate the value of a full-ride scholarship. However, the thing you have to keep in mind is that every student-athlete is not getting an engineer degree/going to professional school (sometimes they don't even graduate). It's not too uncommon to have these players be "general studies" majors, or other majors that aren't necessarily "money" degrees that are in demand. Ultimately, it's up to them what major they pick..but alot of kids going to high profile universities like Notre Dame, Northwestern, etc. can't handle the academic coursework with the workload they have athletically..so they choose a major they can manage in order to be academically eligible. True, some people, like Luck, do get sound degrees...but, again its not like everyone does.

Well, for Goodell and company..you have to keep in mind the revenue each league brings. Relatively, the NFL makes more than the NCAA. According to a couple of sources, the NFL makes about 10x more than the NCAA. So with that being said, Goodell makes about about 2x than Emmert on relative terms (assuming the NCAA is a for-profit organization..yet it isn't)...so you can only consider the 5% of NCAA's actual revenue when comparing the leagues. Therefore, the NFL actually makes 200x more than the NCAA when assuming the NCAA gives away 95% of it's revenue...so Goodell makes only 15x the amount as Emmert does even though his company makes 200x the revenue NCAA generates. So..on actual relative terms, Emmert gets paid more.

Again, I'm not saying that the free-ride is worthless. It's great. However, when you think about how much revenue this business actually generates...it's pretty unfair to the players that could use a small stipend (again, considering they're essentially the product). Everybody has an opinion on this obviously. If you ask Coach Spurrier..he believes stipends should be implemented, while Coach Stoops thinks otherwise. Anyways, I respect your opinion and see what you're saying, but I have mine. So..with that being said, we're just going to agree to disagree.

  19. Would a poverty-stricken student be in a position to be at the college they are at playing football without the scholarship?  Odds are no.  Real money or not that's $20,000 to $40,000 a year a college kid doesn't have to come up with on his own.  The scholarships cover everything that kid needs to survive in college, housing, food, and clothing.  If they need more than that they do what any other poor college does and live cheap.  Trust me there are thousands of kids that have mastered living cheap in college for years.  Most kids that have a part-time job in school are using that money to pay for the cost of school, housing, food, or clothes which is already paid for under the college kid's scholarship.  I am also sure most of those kids who have a part-time job to try to just cover the basic costs of school would gladly trade not being able to have that job for a college scholarship.

The fruits of their labor is their college education.  Again that's worth some where between $20,000 and $40,000 a year, that's more than some people make off their first jobs out of college with a college education.  That's not chump change.  That is a huge pay out already.  In fact if you add in the cost for scholarships most college don't turn a profit off of football.  That's why some smaller schools have done away with football it costs too much money already to pay for football.  Unless you are in a BCS conference or a major football program like Notre Dame odds are your school isn't making money off of football. They are already losing money off of it as it is.   You can't have partial rules either for the BCS schools and not the rest of D1 programs like the WAC, Mountain West, or MAC schools.  You have to have rules across the board.  A lot of schools would drop football if they had to start paying kids on top of giving them a scholarship. Sounds like they're getting the short end of the stick when the NCAA wouldn't be anything without them.

The full-ride scholarship doesn't necessarily cover everything (Plus which scholarship pays for the athletes' clothes, besides a few free t-shirts and such?). Players still have to purchase calculators, parking permits, lab equipment, etc. I just read an article that claims that Div 1 athletes have to pay around $3000 for school expenses that isn't covered by their full-ride scholarship/grants. Also, you keep claiming that everybody would love to have a full ride; however, not every kid is making the NCAA money. I wish I was Bill Gates...yet, I didn't put the work in/think of the ideas that he did..so I don't deserve it. As for the fruits of their labor being their college education...again, that will only pay off 4 years down the road when they've graduated. That college degree isn't going help the kid and his family while in school. And while you can say that the NCAA gives back most of their money (95% of it, give or take)..that 5 or so percent is a large sum of money.. I mean, the NCAA president gets paid about 1.6 million..not too shabby for a non-profit president. And that's not even including the tv deals and such. For example, the NCAA and CBS deal is worth around 11 Billion dollars just for the rights to broadcast three weeks (march madness) a year...that's not even including the rest of the bball season, BCS bowl game rights, and the football season. Furthermore, the B1G schools received around 25 million (from B1G network, and such sources) for being part of the conference, etc. So, you're saying that the NCAA/schools can't/shouldn't compensate the students just a little bit?

  20. They are getting paid with a free education, if they chose not to take advantage of that then that's their problem but still that's what the scholarship is for a lot of people come out of college every year saddled with major debt issues from college loans that would have gladly taken the college scholarship without the pay.  I am just tired of people acting like the scholarship is worthless and that they aren't getting anything for playing college football.

While a college education is valuable, it's not actual-money. A full-ride isn't going feed a poverty-stricken athlete, for example...and they can't get a job obviously due to time constraints.  So, what should you do...let the kid go without a bite to eat, maybe without clean laundry..when they're the reason the NCAA is a multi-million (almost billion) dollar industry? And obviously everybody wouldn't mind a free-ride..but everybody doesn't make the NCAA/schools money. Don't get me wrong, I'm not claiming that every athlete should get paid an obscene amount of money..but a small amount isn't too much to ask. Will it be easy to fund such an endeavor? No, it won't be.  But to say it's impossible is far-fetched imo. How would you feel if someone was making millions of dollars off of you without seeing a cent of it (besides a college degree)? The players should see the fruits of their labor. JMO

again, are academic scholarship students held to the same rules as athletic scholarship students?

why can't a kid sell his autograph? makes zero sense

The reason why kids can't sell their autograph is because it would change college recruiting completely. The problem is the fact that it's in a free market. Consequently, boosters from schools could say, "if you come to Florida, I'll buy your jersey from you for XXXX amount of money. And that XXXX could be anything the booster/player wanted it to be. As a result, college recruiting would boil down to which school had the richest boosters/alumi.

  21. If these allegations prove true, it was a pretty stupid move on Manziel's part. However, some of the rules that the NCAA has is ridiculous. While I can understand this rule of selling memorabilia, the NCAA really needs to implement a weekly/monthly stipend to collegiate athletes. It shouldn't be nothing outrageous, but enough to allow the athletes to get something to eat, pay for laundry, etc. The players make the NCAAF, not the other way around.
