  1. He absolutely cost us the superbowl(the aint's).We were marchin' down the field by running, but noooooooooooooooo that just wasn't good enough for p-money.He also wanted to be the MVP(HE REALIZED ADDAI WOULD GET THE GLORY) of that game too,so what does he do?He throws a pick six to porter in double coverage. The truth is...he's a stathog...always was,and he isn't happy with winning...only happy if he's the main reason behind the winning.

dont think he did that intentionally for his stats, and i think he'd take the win in that game more than anything else. but generally he does like to prove to people he can do a lot of things people don't think he can do.

  2. Usually, a player is already done being "mentored" long before this stage of their career.  Manning is what he is, I don't expect him to suddenly get "clutch" in the postseason.

yeah I think at this stage he is what he is, not many things can be changed. but if he doesn't insist on some things he could definitely get some help from other aspect of his team, e.g. more diversified offensive plans and more powerful running game.

  3. Your saying that Irsay didn't try to build the best team possible in the PM years ?

When they had Manning they did several things: 1.Building a pass-rush-based defense assuming Manning can give them a lead 2.Selecting RBs and OL assuming pass protection is the priority. They also kinda failed to add enough talent 05-11 since almost all 1st rounders never panned out are mostly gone by now. Always drafting in 25-32 also played a role. The team was 2-14 in 2011 without Manning for some reasons, and a lack of talent was a major one.

As Luck cannot mask the problems as good as Manning and will need more help, they will have to build a better team, which will be a very nice thing after Luck gains more experience and improves.

  4. “Facts are stubborn things, but statistics are pliable.”

    Mark Twain

Pretty much any argument can be made by taking statistics and kind of cherry-picking what supports one's case and what doesn't. But it's hard to explain 9-11 as "bad luck," like the Bleacher Report article did.

any coincidence if happens yr after yr for so many time can no longer be called coincidence

  5. Manning must have really upset you because it seems like every chance you get, your throwing jabs at the guy.  I understand he has faults and has just as much blame as the defense but chill out.

Already a little over it. Just want to see him succeed and knowing his window is closing and this yr's opportunity doesn't come very often makes it even more difficult to swallow. It is not like Manning was 25 yrs old, and for old QBs every yr is not a given. They might be near perfect at the age of 37 but totally screw it at age 38. As great as Manning is, he just deserves more success in playoffs.

Anyway the game is over and there will be as good or even better football even after Manning retires. Wont be a big deal eventually.

  6. The Volek Chargers game they had 4 chances inside the 10 to take the lead and ran the ball 3 times and never scored.

The one in SD Manning got sacked when we could have iced the game. I think a TE blew a block so it's fair to give him a pass there.

The Pittsburg game he took a couple deep shots in short yardage when they could have just tried to get closer for a FG. Vandy missed the kick. Really though they played awful on offense in that game and never should have been it. The overturned INT was a horrible call and a huge gift.

The Jets game above of course. A first down seals that game as long as Vinny makes the kick.

Some of these games should have never came to this though. There were opportunities missed throughout the game. This past weekends game i go back to the 3rd qtr after the Flacco fumble gave them great field position with a 7 point lead. Manning did nothing with it. The next possession, he fumbled. He could have put the game away early.

Leading by 7pts manning fumbled and gave Ravens a gift. They scored a TD right away. I just have no idea why he couldn't be a little careful since it was not like they were trailing.

  7. I know, I said above that I was thinking of the wrong play. I linked the video above.

So do you now understand why I have criticized Manning so harshly recently? There are just too many moments like this, which he could have delivered and win the big game by a better throw or better decision but instead he blew. I just remember them so very clearly. So much pain.

  8. Yeah Revis absolutely shut down Reggie in that game. I believe his only catch was a screen for like 2 yards.

But on your other point yeah it was a deep post that was a little underthrown, but a ball that hit Blair right in his hands.

No it was not a post since they only needed a 1st down to run out the clock, move the chain a little more, and kick the field goal to seal the deal. The threw a back shoulder such that nobody could catch it but White. White was a 6'-3'' tall guy but Manning threw it low (around the height of White's knee) and White had to reach it with some efforts and failed.

In Manning's career I just don't remember he ever finished when he had this kind of opportunities to seal the deal, except for the 06 super bowl winning season he sealed the deal at Baltimore throwing to Clark, and came back at home against the Pats.

  9. Have to make the plays when the opportunity presents itself.

Like I said, Manning has a LOT of limitations. He cannot make plays outside the pocket like a Big Ben or Rodgers or even Luck. He cannot do QB sneaks like Brady does for short yardage in critical situations. He does not have a gun of an arm to wing the ball into tight spots like Brady or Rodgers, so he has to rely on accuracy and timing to be exceptional and against playoff Ds, that timing is bound to get disrupted more often than not. So, he takes chances, much like Favre, and no wonder his playoff losses are tied with Favre right now.

The results of his play in high intensity situations like the playoffs are a manifestation of those limitations, IMO.

The truth of the matter is, his close to .500 record is pretty much identical to the record he has in the regular season vs top 5 Ds.

The only way Manning can salvage anything in his postseason career is like an old dog learning new tricks, with an aggressive playcaller telling him what to do in end of game situations, and his offense considerably modified from a primarily timing based offense.

You are 100% correct on Manning's limitations. He prepares for the games so well that in regular season he almost garantee the wins against inferior teams. He has always been .500 against elite teams who can either defend him or outscore him. In playoff teams tend to challenge him more intensively and his percentage even drops a little lower.

One thing is most Colts and Manning fans like to believe Manning is a superman and do not have many flaws. It is so much pain for them to admit he has these limitations.

  10. Manning threw a perfect pass which Collie dropped on the last 3rd down of that drive.

Wasn't Collie already on IR at that time? I was watching it at the stadium. I believe it was a back-shoulder to Blair White which was a little low and under-thrown, which White dropped. Perhaps Collie as a much better receiver could catch it with his skill. The best WR Wayne was not even targeted more than a couple of times in that game if I remember clearly.

  11. Elway is right and a problem when Manning was with Colts - and also a problem for so many of his fans today - is that nobody dare to criticize him even when he makes obvious mistakes. As a HOF QB and one winning multiple SBs, Elway is the right person to give Manning the help and meaningful mentoring he really needs, instead of the useless excuses, for him to have a strong run at the end of his career. This kind of healthy criticism could be provided by nobody but one like Elway.

Hope Manning can really learn from the loss and have a come-back run like Elway did.

  12. I still believe the old saying "live by the sword, die by the sword".  It's Manning's total control of the offense that makes him great and it's his total control that bites him.  Irsay realized that and that's why you see him building a better team around Luck.

Exactly! Succeeding in playoff as a QB or offensive coordinator are both very difficult jobs. Manning is great, but for him to play both roles and top the opponents QB+OC is too difficult. He will keep trying and hope he could get one SB before he retires.

  13. I hate the title of this thread. Really, is it a done deal? It's like when some talking head states his opinion as fact.

I really hope it's not and he wins two more superbowl, but there are just not that many good opportunities like he just wasted this yr. No1 seed achieved in the last week, playing a team they just steamrolled, no major injuries for the team, SB at hometown, looked like everything aligned.

  14. How are Rodgers, Eli, and Matt Ryan even viable comparisons? Peyton has been to the playoffs 12 times. Those three haven't even combined for that many. Or maybe they have by like 1 or 2 more times.

If one has that many opportunities to do sth. impressive but he just doesnt achieve as much as many having only 1 or 2 opportunities, this person must be so very unlucky.

  15. That ESPN total QBR system actually works not bad:

    2012 post season
RK PLAYER TEAM COMP ATT PCT YDS YDS/A LONG TD INT SACK RATE YDS/G
    1 Joe Flacco, QB BAL 30 57 52.6 613 10.75 70 5 0 2 120.0 307

    10 Andrew Luck, QB IND 28 54 51.9 288 5.33 25 0 1 3 59.8 288

  16. Right, we are getting nowhere on this Brady / Manning debate, so I have an idea that would settle it once and for all.

Get them together for a GOAT Face-Off. Best of three. I'm thinking Ker Plunk, Operation and Buckeroo. Winner takes all and then we close this thread? Anyone got a better idea?

To figure out who is the all time great could be impossible since the game has always been changing, but the head-to-head record could provide some direct comparison. I thought Manning had catch up at certain point but the latest two meetings all went to Brady.

  17. Even if he was, I'm pretty sure that we're allowed to be. Maybe you can create your own forum and have a "no Pats fans" rule if that's what you want. I've been hanging around Indy boards since around 2004, and one of the moderators here is a NE fan. It's possible to coexist peacefully and have productive, entertaining discussions with dissenting opinions.

I agree with your opinion but trust me I am not a pats fan and I still want to see ravens beat you guys this coming Sunday. you guys owe them for last yrs missed chipshot FG.
