He's is older and more expensive than Wentz.  We are one of the few teams that could afford Ryan.  And we can afford him because we don't have a lot of expensive pieces that take up cap space.

Mattie will probably have to work with rookies.  Not a bad thing, though.

Do you think he planned for ATL to invite Watson, lose, then trade Ryan anyway?

Ryan makes $24.8M next year and $28.4M in 2023. Wentz makes $29M both years as I understand it.

He was texting him in air. I just watched it on YouTube. You can see Dan  going back and forth with him in his phone. If it was a retired player he would of said who it was. Mike Chapell was in at the time and said he isn’t surprised.

As I said I wouldn't believe a word he said.

Wow. On DD right now he said a very popular player sent him a text and said it’s hard to play for a organization when your GM won’t go out and do what is needed. I assume he is talking about a current colts player.

I wouldn't believe a word he said when it come to the Colts. I have never heard him say any good words about the Colts and haven't listened to him in years after him taking shots at Luck every chance he could.

Why do you assume he is talking about a current Colt player?

Not by year 2 maybe. However, they were in a very similar situation with Alex Smith and Tyrod Taylor. KC was a perennial playoff team who couldn't get over the hump and BUF was a fringe playoff team. They both got aggressive in the draft. And while those didn't pan out for a couple years, there was a general direction after a year or two.

The difference is, the Colts are heading into their 3rd offseason, and there is no real direction (yet). I hope that changes soon, but if we trade for Jimmy G...I fear that we will still be in a similar situation a year or two from now.

Agree with you here but we swung and missed with Wentz based on Reich, the QB whisper, campaigning hard for him. I for one thought we had our QB and am a little concerned we may have thrown in the towel too early.

The problem of this team is not just the QB. We are devoid of talent at some of the most important positions in football - QB, WR, DE, LT, CB, TE...

And it will be 3 years after Luck retired in August. So yeah. That's plenty of time to address QB.

So is that why most all NFL teams have good franchised QBs because they are so easy to find in a year or two?

Yeah, Grigson has his own sins and will carry his own cross. I can understand being lenient toward new management for a year or two after taking on the team that was in shambles and totally devoid of talent, but we are way past the time Ballard can use Grigson or Luck's retirement as excuses for the situation his team is in.

So your saying if KC lost Mahomes or Buffalo lost Allen they would bounce back by year 2 no problem?

I'm not sure what word I wanna use to describe the disconnect between our QB and receivers last year.  The first word that comes to mind is "trust", as in a trust-issue with Brissett either not trusting his guys to make contested catches, or not trusting what he's seeing when trying to read the defenses.

Trust: You just may have hit on something that JB does not have and seems to have never had and that is Trust. It is something he has lacked since college if you read his scouting report.

  8. Some may vehemently will disagree but Freeney was not the greatest DE as a run stopper, especially early on. Great, great pass rusher but have vivid memories of his rushing wide and the OT just ride him wide and the running back running through a huge hole that Freeney  vacated. He became a HOF. Big difference so far is he could stay on the field.

IMO he can't. Carr is a supplementary type of QB, not a foundation type of QB. We will need to still build the offense around the run game and build play action shots, RPOs, etc off of that. He's essentially what Jacoby was... only better, more accurate, quicker processing the game, etc.

Can't believe how down you are on Carr. You say he is what JB was. Can't in my wildest dreams even come close to visualizing that!

  10. Kind of hilarious that last year everyone was complaining about all the UFA the Colts had at WR. Talk is they have mutual interest in a former 1st round draft pick and half the people don't want him. Had a great year under Reich and Groh so lets see what happens.

I'm not sure. But I think she misquoted (not really misquoted, but not really properly explained?) the bonus. The way hear it described during the games,  the winning team SPLITS the $100k 46 ways. (More ways if the coaches get some)

Thanks. Thought that must be the case.

It's not explained in painful detail here, but basically:

    XFL salary structure:

    Average salary: $55,000

    Bi-weekly paycheck: $2,080

    Activation fee: $1,685

    Victory bonus: $2,222

And top quarterbacks (apparently the lone salary exception) can earn up to $495,000.

It states above that the weekly win bonus of $100,000 is paid to every active roster member on the winning team. Should it read that a win bonus of $100,000 is divided equally between every active roster member on the winning team.

I sincerely hope that I didn’t speak incorrectly above, but I was trying to remember what Nancy posted in the other Forum.

Yes..PJ did look good.  I am liking the games and there's 2 more tomorrow!  Getting used to the new rules and all..did you notice the winning team gets a bonus to share?  Pretty good incentive for regular season game!  If you didn't read about the salaries:

The XFL’s non-negotiable agreement states players will earn $1,040 in base salary every week, which translates into a $27,040 gross payment. The contract outlines that XFL players earn another $1,685 for each game played, plus a $100,000 weekly win bonus is paid to every active roster member on the winning team. XFL players get no royalties for merchandise sold by the league, and they cannot pursue any legal claims in court. All this adds up to be an estimated average salary around $55,000 for every player.

2 bolded statements seem contradictory. The $100,000 weekly win bonus for every active roster member on the winning team each week amounts to an average of $50,000 for each player who participated in each game each week. Doesn't make sense. If there is 10 games a season that would amount to an average of $500,000 for every participating player. Granted, the winning team only participates in the bonus but if a team went undefeated in a 10 game season each player on the roster if there were on it all 10 games would get a bonus on $1M. What am I missing?
