Amazing what a win against the worst team in the NFL can do for our morale. Last week we were talking about a top 3 draft pick, and now we are talking about playoffs.

Its certainly possible to make playoffs. Our schedule gets much easier, especially since JAX doesn’t look as good as advertised. If we can stay healthy and have an established, consistent  running game then we should push for a spot

Winning cures a lot of things ;D .  But, as many have stated, we need some consistency.  However, with our current lineup without injures, it makes it easier to believe that we could have won at least 3 of our 5 losses, and that if healthy, I have that hope that is is possible.  Time to wait and see.

does it matter? We don't play them this year. If by some very slim chance we make the playoffs and meet them we are toast, in fact if we make the playoffs i think we are toast in the first round no matter who we meet.

To me it matters.  Discussion of ideas is fun for me.  There is no right or wrong, just speculation.  It doesn't have to matter to you though.

  3. To be clear, I didn't start the topic because of how we handled the Bills.  I started it because I was watching the Chiefs last night and they looked awesome, but I think our safeties would really be able to shine against Mahomes <sp?>.  I think our offense would keep us in the game if healthy and catching passes.

Too many people say Buffalo has this great defense.  They are 1 spot higher than us in sacks.  But our O-line is WAY better than there's. (that's something i've not said in YEARS!) We are 8th in NFL with 10 sacks given up...the Bills have given up 24...Good for 30th in the NFL.

We average 4 ypc in the run game. (Mack is averaging over 5 ATM), Bills are averaging 3.6 YPC,..that is good for 29th in the NFL.  So, yeah..our O-line is WAY better.

So let's see if this vaunted Bills pass rush, which is why they are top 10 in the league in pass yards allowed, is able to get through our actual o-line that is finally whole.  They are not going to stop Luck...He's thrown against much better defenses than the Bills...and done it at a pro-bowl level the past 3 games.  The only thing stopping our passing game is our WR's.  And we may have Hilton back for this one.  And the way Mack was able to run VRS the jets,..i'm game.

BTW, our run defense is quietly 4th in the NFL in YPC at 3.7, So i'm really not worried to much about that part of our defense.

It is our Passing defense that worries me.  It is the only thing IMO that can keep the Bills in the game. Derek Anderson was a decent starter for the Browns once upon a time...but then he self imploded. But hopefully since our pass rush may get our top lineman back in Hunt, plus a healthier Leonard...we may be able to get that pressure on Anderson that we was missing in the Jets game.  Any QB who can sit in a pocket for 4-5 seconds will find openings in a zone coverage.  Hopefully Hunt,Sheard, and Leonard can effect Anderson most of the game.

I'm not giving a prediction score wise...But i will say i'll be disappointed if we don't win by at least 2 scores.

Nice call.  This game was fun to watch.

However good the defense looked, at the beginning of the season, was fools gold. Just got shredded by a Rookie QB. Cover 2 is obsolete. Way too easy to game plan. Helped out Darold with it’s simplicity. Oklahoma had the guts to fire their D Coordinator after losing to Texas. Colts should follow their lead

Turnovers led to 16 points, and of the four turnovers (yes I'm counting the one on downs), only one resulted in a touchdown. On seven possessions we held them to field goals with two of our starting safeties out along with Hunt and Autry. I think our DEFENSE is doing fine. Now our offense on the other hand.....

Building a team is tough, mainly because you have to hit at a high rate through the draft, and the FAs that you bring in have to come in and deliver right away.

One thing that is a concern for me is that Ballard learned from his time with the Bears, where his QBs were: Jim Miller, Rex Grossman, Kyle Orton, and Jay Cutler. Ballard learned that the key to winning wasn't the QB position, it was the defense.

Then during his time at KC, his QB was Alex Smith. He has never worked with a QB like Luck. All of his previous QBs required him to build a complete team. This is both good and bad. I think he is of the mindset that he needs to build a complete team for Luck, which is correct. BUT, with a QB like Luck, you have to focus on not wasting his talent.

Luck cannot wait forever for Ballard to build a complete team. Luck is ready to win now. Spend the money, give Luck some play makers, and let him lead. The team can be built while Luck leads the Colts to wins. Instead, we have Rogers, Pascal, Grant, M. Johnson as receivers. Give me a break!

I feel your frustration.  When Manning went to the Broncos, the Broncos spent a bunch of money in FA on the D. I agree we need help at WR but am not sure what next draft or FA offers.  I will say I hope Cain recovers and becomes something and I'm also disappointed in Rogers. He is just not consistent, and I was rooting for him.

And btw....Chubb with 3 sacks so far today.....THOSE are gamechangers.

Nelson and Hooker?  Nice players, but due to their positions.....not going to win you games by themselves.

    FAIL:  CB.

One interception and time in the pocket for Luck to throw. I would argue it's game changing.

I agree theres no point to go like 7-9 or 8-8 where you can't gain too much out of it, but with a top 5 pick I wouldn't want to trade back I'd like to either get one of the three clemson D lineman or a wr like N'Keal Harry or Aj brown. With a top 5 pick we could really put this team ine the playoffs next year.

I disagree with this mentality; and I assume any pro athlete would as well.  You play to win, no matter what the circumstances.  That is the only way to get better.

I may have been talking about another play. Possibly a couple plays before that. Maybe the drive before the TD. Apologies. He still gave up and didn't even try to catch it.

I know which play you are talking about.  I don't think he could have made the play, but I was disgusted he didn't try. Lost game or not, I expect 110% effort every play.

  10. I thought he played very well tonight.  Had one major drop but made up for it on a nice fourth down grab.  Also I loved how he was making decisions to cut once up field and fight for extra yards when nothing was there.

Not disagreeing with those stats. I was referring to the last couple a years. With a dinged Luck or no Luck, the colts have been pretty bad. Hope tonight they get this season going in the right direction.

I hope this is the game that starts the fire for this team. The conditions seem right.  With our recent loss, all our injuries, and our beat downs by the Pat's, it just feels like the time is right!!

If playing on primetime isn't enough! Hoping for the best but rarely have the colts shown up when the whole nation is watching.  Now the pats look closer to full strength as we have lost key contributors. Can't watch tonight anyway, have to work. May be a good thing, lol.

This is incorrect.  Here's to hoping for a Colts W and having belief in our team!  Go Colts!

"Luck also needs one touchdown run to pass Bert Jones (14) for the second-most among quarterbacks in franchise history."

I'm looking for one of these Thursday night!  GO COLTS!

I don't think Ballard has a lack of interest in FA. Al Woods, Simon, Autry, Sheard, etc...

I just think he swung and missed on the top guy he wanted last year in Norwell and instead of scrambling and spending he kept his money to take another swing this year.

I expect us to be linked to one of the Dallas pass rushers in free agency. I also think that he has seen enough from the RT spot that he will make a run at one of the 2-3 above average RTs hitting the market.

Golden Tate, while not young, strikes me as a Ballard type signing. Could land him cheaper due to age and on a shorter term deal. He would also fit this offense well in that possession/yac role you see agholor possess with Philly. Haven't heard of any character concerns either.

There is such a deficiency of oline talent compared to dline talent in this league right now. This year's draft could only serve to further the separation if the assumed level of dline talent is correct.

Regarding Norwell, and according to PFF (if it means anything to you), it looks like Ballard made the right decision drafting Nelson instead thus far (in three games anyways) https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pro-week-3-nfl-offensive-line-rankings.

Yup. And safety isn’t a playmaking position. The job of a FS is to take away the deep ball and the number 1 receiver when he needs to be doubled. Aside from the one TD, AJ Green was quiet in week 1. Then he scored 4 TDS on the Ravens the next week. Against the Texans, Hopkins didn’t get loose deep. He and Coutee beat the Colts in the middle of the field. That coverage falls on the CBs. The Colts aren’t really getting beat deep. That’s because of Hooker. He quietly takes the deep ball away.

Then hopefully Gronk has a relatively quiet day.

Oh jeesh! The man just got back from a torn ACL. It's the NFL you're not going to go off every game. You may go a couple without much action and then 2 or 3 in a row where you ball. The scheme itself is designed to discourage deep throws. That's part of the reason you don't see much. The opposing team looks deep and sees it blanketed and eventually they checkdown to a back or crossing route.

Fair enough.  Hopefully Brady challenges him then.  I just want to see him make some plays!
