Everyone acts like we a screwed without Luck..I like Brissett, he is only 24 has a great arm is a smart kid who will continue to develop...With better coaching and improved roster we can compete next year with Brissett..

With excellent coaching, leading to better conditioning and scheming, and an upgraded o-line, I realistically see winning 10 games this year.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

While he lit up the sky as a marketer/cheerleader yesterday at his presser, the upcoming weeks & months will reveal to us where his GM skills are at.

The fact remains that HE CHOSE McD to be his HC.  In hindsight, is it fair to say that he avoided a huge mistake when  McD backed out?  Ballard's ability to judge one's character could be a red flag moving forward ... or we might see that he has learned a big lesson from this ordeal.  Time will tell....

Now is when we begin to see his abilities as an NFL GM.  Here is a short list of the "significant" issues he must confront, given where things currently stand.  These do not include all of the "regular responsibilities" that other GM's must also address this off-season...

    - A good HC is needed immediately!

    - Asst coaches/staff are still needed for the HC. My guess is that Ballard will be part of these decisions?...

    - MAJOR decisions to be made based on Luck's health.  The fact is that Luck just got an extension which forces the Colts to hitch their wagons to him in the short term.  My understanding is that it would cost the Colts ~$18mil (in dead cap money) if they were to let him go. This would really handcuff the organization if Ballard does not handle things correctly.

    - a draft board needs to be established based on the type of offense & defense being installed by the new coordinators/HC.  Without input rom these 3 guys, essentially, all CB can do is evaluate talent for now.

CONCLUSION: While he has taken some big steps towards establishing "culture" for the Colts.  He has yet to make any decisions to yield better results ON THE FIELD.

Like most of you, CB left a positive impression with me up to this point but, let's face it, he has A LOT OF MAJOR DECISIONS to make with regards to the (fast-approaching) upcoming season. I will be watching very closely to see his approach in these areas.  If his decision making is anything like Grigson's, where will the Colt's be in 3yrs?

     What y'all say/think?....

I've said this before and will say it again, he already made some good moves hitting on draft players last year (Hooker, Hairston, Mack, and possibly Wilson), and he cleaned house and brought in some good FAs in Hankins, Woods, Sheard, and Simon. These were on the field moves...more to come in a few months I'm sure.

Just stop, there is no "rivalry".  Pats own us.  Next to them we've been like a little boy playing make-believe in his daddy's suit.  Win.  Hell, put together a coaching staff and field a QB you havent gotten killed, THEN talk rivalry......Sorry fellow fans, I know this is gonna be unpopular, but until we field a competitive squad, this rah rah stuff is embarrassing.......fire away.......

You're right, it hasn't been a rivalry, it's been a slaughterhouse, but after this stunt, it's back ON.  Obviously the proof is in the pudding.  I just have faith that Mr. Ballard will put his money where his mouth is.

He learned what he's doing from Monte Kiffin/Dungy/Lovie Smith/Marinelli disciples so you know it's probably going to like like what we used to have.  Only a little bit different in terms of the coverages.    So I guess we are looking at a sharp reduction in the blitzes.  I just hope we don't go back to all those small players.

Don't you have to "blitz" in the first place in order to have a "sharp reduction in the blitzes"? Just saying...

Thanks. The fact that he could be talked out of it at the 12th hour tells me he wasn't fully invested in the job in the first place. I was very impressed with Chris Ballard and the way he navigated through it. You guys like Ballard?

He's only in his second year with us, but the way he handled that press conference was classy and inspiring.  He also did a good year drafting us a safety who played well until he got hurt, a couple of good corners, and a good rb in the draft, along with bringing in some good D linemen in FA.  I'm happy thus far.

Talking pretty in press conferences is one thing. Seeing results on the field is another.

    I prefer the latter.

I don't feel he was talking pretty, I feel he was talking with conviction. Action will follow suite.

Now why would you do that?

Compare Bobby Wagner, who has had SIX good to very good and even some great years with Trent Richardson, who had only one average year,   his rookie season, and nothing else.

    Why would you do that?

Come on now.....       that's a terrible comparison.

We made a good trade for Vonte,  but you didn't make that comparison,  did you?

Let's at least be reasonable and try to make an apples to apples comparison.

Ok, well thinking on it now, you are right, that was only one comparison, and a bad one to boot. I also agree Vontae was a good trade.

The Colts have relied on QB play to get in the playoffs for 20 years. It's time to build a team that can get in by running the ball and playing defense. I want Luck to be our guy and be 100% healthy but I don't want him to be the only reason we are able to get in the post season. Focus needs to move on to a solid front 7 on D and an Oline that can consistently move the chains.

    Amen!

  9. To me, the definition of being a Colts fan is to see the Colts succeed, and ultimately win the Superbowl.  It is quite evident that the power of the spoken word and the thoughts of winning a game are real.  Yes, I'm talking about T.Y. Hilton's statement recently and in the past.  So here is my challenge.  I challenge every true colts fan to set in their minds to know we will win the Superbowl this year.  Despite your opinion on players, coaches, etc. set that aside.  Open your minds, and put all doubt aside; know that we will win.  I guarantee if we come together as Colts Nation to know we will win, we will.....win.  Of course nobody can make you do anything you do not want to do, but again, if the point of being a Colts fan is to see them succeed and ultimately win the Superbowl, let's do this.  WE ARE THE 12th MAN.  We have the advantage!

  10. With all the negativity from the first game, I really felt they did a good job of 1) Giving us the best chance to win by starting JB 2) Getting the better performance out of the defense (Melvin and Mathias were stepping it up from last week) 3) throwing that challenge flag, 4) calling that time out to ice the kicker. Overall, the forum, in general seems much more at ease this week, and I believe it was largely so to the coaching.

1000 yard season are irrelevant according to whom?  Still, only 10 or so backs reach that milestone each year, and few backs do it consistently.  I keep saying this...a 3.9 ypc avg is not pedestrian.  Look at the HOF running backs and their career ypc.  You'ld be shocked how many are right around 4 ypc.  A RB who can churn out a consistent 4 ypc is very good, and it is particularly good for the colts, who have had pretty poor run blocking for a couple years.  Long runs?  Blount, Crowell, Howard, Hyde...all were amongst the tops in big plays from scrimmage last year.  None are meaningfully faster than Gore.  Why then could they spring them for big gains?  Look at Gore's highlight films and see how many unblocked defenders he encounters once he gets passed the LOS.  Now look at highlight films for some of these other backs.  Look specifically at 5:09 of this video for Blount:

Every defenders is being blocked at the point of attack, and Blount is sprung for a long TD.  That is what is needed for long runs, and it is something that Hilton, Dorsett and Moncrief are poor at...no RB is going to spring big gains for the colts without help from blockers.

I also recall the highlight video of Michael on this forum showed many of his runs being untouched.
