    My tone is changing.

If we continue to play at this level with everyone HEALTHY we are a hard team to beat right now.  I personally don't feel we've played a high powered offense (with our current Defense) with a GREAT QB & RB. I think THAT will be the true measuring stick of our potential.  Like I said before, THIS is the time for the defense to get hot and we are doing it!

Stats kind of misleading.  They were running on us pretty bad. The score made them get away from the run.  Would not hang my hat on the final outcome regarding rushing  yards allowed.   That being said, D made some crucial plays

We played with lots of defensive backs so yeah that allows to run more easily.

Sincere question:    What did Henry Anderson EVER do for the Colts to generate such love and devotion from this fan base.

I think he had 3 sacks in his Colts career.    He was mostly hurt for the Colts.

People are so devoted to him you’d think he had an all-pro season for us.   Nope.    Not even close.

Then there are those who insist he’d be a fit in our current defense even though he has ZERO experience in it and Ballard says he traded him because he was NOT a fit for our new defense.   Apparently this is yet another example of the Fan Base knows better?!

Some are upset we only got a 7 for Henry.   Riddle me this?   If HA is so good, why didn’t some team offer more?   No one even offered a 6 for the great Henry Anderson?    Maybe he’s not what people here think he is?

Henry is doing well for the Jets.   Great.   They run a 3-4.   That’s what he played for the Colts.   That’s what he played for Stanford.   Why is this so hard for so many here?    I’m glad he’s healthy and doing well.   Always liked Henry.   But it was not hard to see why the Colts traded him.   He was not a fit for what we’re now doing....

Maybe my memory serves me wrong, but when healthy, I remembered timely 3rd down TFL to stop drives. That's why I liked him.

  4. Although it is very unlikely to happen, if the Colts win out there is a scenario where they could get the 2nd seed, which is crazy!! (Sorry if this was already posted) In this scenario I have the Chargers 1st (13-3), Colts 2nd  (10-6), Dolphins 3rd (10-6), Steelers 4th (9-6-1), Chiefs 5th (12-4), and Patriots 6th (10-6). Houston would have to lose 2, including against the Jags, and the Pats would have to lose against the Jets and the Steelers. Possible, but highly unlikely. Fun to dream though!!

He’s as good as his stats are. He’s making plays all over the field with his arms and legs, and not just playing Captain Checkdown like Brady or let’s score 1 more TD against the Buccs in the last 8 seconds like Brees.

Apparently Andy Reid clock management is still a thing though. The Chargers earned it but the Chiefs should have iced that, especially after the ref gifts on their last scoring drive.

Mahomes can't take that sack.  He'll learn.

    This article says it all:

    https://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/jaguars-defense-gets-embarrassed-by-titans-henry-120618

    Key lines:

The difference was that the Colts continually threw the ball against a Jacksonville defense that has allowed 15 touchdown passes all season, matching Minnesota for the fewest of any NFL team. Jacksonville is more vulnerable against the run, which helps explain why the Jaguars have lost to the Titans four straight times.

“We’ve got to stop the run,” Jaguars cornerback A.J. Bouye said. “Everybody tried to talk about like how our defense is back. People have got to realize Indy played to our strengths. They tried to pass the ball (nearly) 60 times. (Tennessee) didn’t really try to pass the ball today. They just ran the ball and they dominated. That’s been the common denominator for the last four times we played them.”

My question about the coaching then is this:  with all the analytics why did we play to their strengths???

Ok this thing is a lot of fun... LOL.

I think it is safe to say, if the Colts win the remaining 3 games (all very winnable) then they will be in in some capacity.

I can't see the Texans losing outright for the rest of the season but from the bit I played around with it, it looks possible (not plausible) that the Colts could very well make that #4 seed with some key losses.

I could see Houston losing to the Eagles, and if we win out, and somehow the Jags pulled out a win against Houston, that would be sweet!

I'm curious about this as well. If the Colts and Dolphins both win out and finish 10 -6 who would have the tie break? Us or them.

According to NFL.com tie breaker rules, I think it says head to head then conference record, which is why I'm confused about the current seedings on NFL.com.

This defense isn't very good. They're 15th in passing yards allowed, 15th in points allowed, tied for 27th on third down (with Dallas, so hopefully our league best third down offense eats next week), our defense has been penalized more than any other defense this season (7.7 times/game;  I can't find how many first downs we've given up due to penalty, or how many penalties come on third down, but that's probably a league worst number also). QBs complete 72% of their passes against us (31st), for an average of 7.7 yards/attempt (19th), with a 97.5 passer rating (23rd).

Our defense doesn't give up a lot of "big" plays (usually defined as 20+ yarders) we definitely give up a lot of moderate plays (10-19 yarders). I can't find specific stats on moderate plays, but we all see them happen every week.

The defense has played some pretty good games this season. I'm happy with how they played today, for the most part; the tackling was spotty, and we gave up a couple long third down conversions, but it was a good performance overall. Last week was strong also. But it's no secret that the defense has been torched at times this season. And it's also a relevant fact that these mostly bad-to-mediocre numbers have come against an unimpressive list of offensive opponents.

Of course, this is a new defense with a bunch of young an inexperienced players, some barely replacement level players, and they've probably played an overly simply coverage scheme most of the season. The defense has also been hit with a lot of injuries. So I'm not down on the defense, and I think there's a lot of potential there.

BUT, the defense isn't very good this year, statistically or otherwise.

The defense only has to be good in December and January to really matter, at this point.  Plus the continual improvement is promising.  At least we aren't bottom of the barrel, and for a change (this year) it's exciting to watch them play!

Today the Geathers we’d hoped for showed up. Let’s hope it keeps happening.

Today I think he played up to his potential.  Hopefully no more injury setbacks and he continues playing like this!!

  11. I really like what Walker is bringing to the table.  He made an absolutely beautiful play yesterday on Hopkins, denying him a TD in the middle of the field- covered him really well near the goal line (over looked by Leonard's play on Hopkins).  He took some bad angles starting the year but has really grown and makes great plays now.

    Keys to defeating Dallas.

    - The Colts need to come out of the gate strong and try to put up points early. The Cowboys have some scary weapons on offense and one of those weapons is Ezekial Elliot. The last thing you want is to be playing from behind in a game where their offense is relying heavily on Elliot to run the ball down our defenses throat to manage the game clock and wear out our young defense. Come out strong and force Dallas to be one dimensional and have to rely on Dak Prescott to beat you through the air.

    - Dak Prescott isn't good, but he can run and extend plays with his feet which is something we need to eliminate as much as possible. Gotta get to the QB often and not allow him to scramble around and allow his receivers to get open or to break off long runs with his feet. On third and long, I'm bringing guys like Leonard into
blitz in order to help prevent Prescott time in the pocket.

    - Help contain their defensive lineman from getting to Luck. If we can protect Luck and allow him some time in the pocket, he will exploit their secondary. Hopefully, we'll be able to establish a lead and the run early to help Luck in the passing game. Dallas has a solid defensive line and linebackers, but I'm not at all impressed with their secondary.

    - Play smart and minimize the stupid penalties.

I just really hate Dallas and hope we show up on Sunday. #GoColts

If we can do the same to Dallas as we cifs the Texans, we might be ok. This will be a good test for our D line against an elite RB and a time when Hooker will be put to the test again with hot WR in Cooper.  Those TEs might have a good game against us though.

Just looking over some of these highlights from the previous matchup.  I sort of feel like we ought to pressure him a bit more to take him off of his predetermined reads.  He sort of knows how things are going to play out when we are just sitting back rushing 4 and he's surveying and sitting back waiting for things to open up.   I think we should blitz a bit more than we did in the first match up.  Or do more blitz simulating.

Good call.  Looks like that is what we did!

I just have to give a shout out, to a well played chess match to the defense stepping it up when it was needed, our offense for coming around after a slow start, and our coaching adjustments, as the game went on. We finished strong to end the first half and when Houston, took the ball in the second half to score on their opening drive Luck & company answered back.   Luck's hard count to make Clowney jump off sides on third and short to get the first down & run out the clock was Epic. The young guys, without a lot of experience, are finding what a team effort is, as a group. They are developing  a home grown identity with end their selves. Game ball guys.

Game ball to Luck for sealing the deal with his cadence. Well played.
