  1. Personally, it would help me if you could provide a link to that particular someone's post. Only because the scenario you paint would make me optimistic. But how many times have we criticized bloggers and ESPN for running with a rumor based on a vague source? But like I said, I like that scenario.

My first guess was that Peyton didn't want Condon talking because his attempts at answering questions on NFLN and ESPN wasn't doing Peyton any favors.

But the scenario would be a step in the right direction. I agree with firejimcaldwell that a healthy Manning would want more than two years. I'd give him three. And I agree if Peyton could return that there'd be a real fire in his belly. Man, I'd love to see the team try for a late career Elway-type SB run.

I don't remember where I saw it, but it was in the forum earlier today. That's why I posted. I wanted to know if it was true and where the information came from. I'm looking for any clue that might hint Peyton staying. Probably won't happen, but at least until we know the deal, I can keep hoping foro something to work.

  2. My point being if Peyton told Condon "I don't want a big contract. I want to be a part of the Colts reagardless of the cost. I don't need the money. If Jim elects not to excercise the bonus, I'll sign a very modest 2-year contract and finish my career as a Colt". I would think Peyton taking that stance would be an issue with Condon. I know the odds are slim-to-none, but it sure would be great.

  3. I read somewhere on someone's post that Peyton didn't wan't Condon talking to anyone anymore (or something along those lines). Does anyone know if that's true or exactly what Peyton said?

I don't know how much money Peyton has made with the Colts and endorsememts, but I'm sure it's significant. Let's say Peyton decides he has enough money, even tens of millions don't matter to him (that's a lot for anyone regardless of how wealthy someone is, to assume anyone would take such a stance is fantastic), but assume for a minute he says I don't care about the money. How cooperative would an agent be with a client saying I don't care about the money? I suppose the agent would cooperate, but the agent's motivation would no doubt be selfish. The agent gets a cut and would strive to get top dollar.

I'm just wondering why Peyton might have asked Condon to stop talking.

  4. A2 (assuming Peyton will significantly reduce his contract) and draft Luck. Luck works under Peyton for a couple of years and Peyton retires a Colt. When I say significant, I mean a contract for a couple of years for a few million (4-5 paying out the majority after we know he's can play).

  5. You are right in a sense that it is about the money but it is also tied to his ability to play on that contract. Not able to play or uncertainty to play on that contract certainly means the Colts will part ways, any team would/should do the same thing, it is cap/cash suicide to do pay that contract out not knowing what lies ahead. If there was another QB with this issue to have something to compare it to, they may be more willing toaccept risk but there is none so health=paid contract, uncertain health=no money spent.

Because even the nice words don't help those who can't understand the simple terms of this issue and continue to live in Madden world or just like to argue for the sake of it.

Why, was the defense throwing the ball inaccurately in the crunch time of the 4th Q? Cause it looked a lot like Alex Smith doing that. Too inconsistant for me but maybe a second year in a system will be a new world of good to him. I like that team.

So a curt approach helps those that don't understand understand more? Make sense to me...

If you know someone is predisposed to being argumentative, then I'm with you. Perhaps the original poster is in that category, but based on this particular post, I didn't see it. Either way, UndecidedFrog and firejimcaldwell did an excellent job (without being curt) of explaining how it all works. I understand more than most, but I know a lot of people that have no clue. They shouldn't be berated or made to feel stupid because of their lack of knowledge.

  6. I think it's quite the opposite. It appears to me that although both Manning and Irsay are saying one thing, their actions are portaying another. If they had a meeting to discuss their previous spat, then it appears that they had a full discussion on Peyton Manning's future. It is now aparent to Manning that he will be released, dispite his helath. So he is now letting all of the other teams in the league know that he is healthy and cleared to play. Since during this week he has a large audience, with all eyes on football, now is the best time to release this information. His plan has worked, as now every team has heard about his physical clearance to play. He is trying to erase any doubt that teams may have about signing a QB coming off of a 3rd neck surgery. He specifically mentioned that he is throwing to receivers so that if you are a GM of another team, you hear that he is cleared to play and is throwing to actual receivers, not just team equipment guys.

Do you remember when Rob Lowe treeted about Peyton? I don't think Peyton needs to wait for the Super Bowl to be in town to capture the attention of the sports world.

  7. No, I think based on Condon's interview, Peyton did let it out (or more specifically Tom Condon did) The word on the street was that it was in Peyton's best interest not to play again. They let it be known that he's in no danger by playing.

I still don't think Peyton would want that out 2 days before Eli is in the Super Bowl. There's plenty of time after.

  8. I would be willing to bet Peyton did not authorize the release of this information. There's NO WAY Peyton would want to over-shadow Eli in the Super Bowl. How many people do you think potentially had access to the information regarding Peyton's clearance to play? Certainly the doctors. Maybe the nurses in the office? Possibly any other staff people in the office? It only takes 1 person to let the new loose then you have a snow ball. I've seen it happen many times in the corporate environment. Someone gets some info, then they go to a co-worker and say "don't tell anyone else but...". Well, that person does tell someone else. Everyone tells everyone "don't tell anyone else".

NO WAY Peyton let this out...

  9. I'm trying to be excited about the Super Bowl being here, it's just a bit of a downer for me. Peyton's probably gone, the Colts probably won't be good for a couple of years (at least), we'll probably lose many of our veteran players, Colts go 2-14 this year and the Pats are in the Super Bowl in our house. All this going down the year we host the Super Bowl.

The biggest downer for me is the fact we'll most likely lose Peyton. We have always had a fighting chance when he's in charge. I understand it doesn't make sense for him to stay/keep him. I just wanted to see him go out a different way.

I know there's a lot to be excited about. I just can't be excited right now.

  10. I think that would be a viable option (Peyton re-negotiating). If he really wants to stay here, I would think he would be willing to negotiate. 28 Mil is a lot of money, but he certainly doesn't need it. Why not let this deal run out, then re-sign him for a couple of years at some minimal amount (assuming he would agree). No doubt he would have other offers, but if he wants to stay here it something that could be done I would think.

  11. I understand and accept the fact Peyton may not be back with Indianapolis. If you look at it logically, it doesn't make sense without some serious modification to his pay. But, I would expect someone within the organization (preferably Jim) would at least keep in touch with Peyton to some minimal degree. No specifics need to be discussed, just keep in touch. Peyton deserves some communication.

  12. Not that it matters, but I have accepted the possiblity Peyton won't be back. Irsay could certainly talk to Peyton about..."let's see how your neck is doing in a few weeks". There's a lot that can be said before anyone knows how Peyton's neck is doing. With so much in question, you don't let him just hang like this.

  13. There is nothing to communicate. Everyone is waiting on his health first.

Even when I'm mad at my wife for something, we'll communicate at least to some minimal degree. Sounds to me like they haven't said a word to Peyton. Obviously, they don't need his blessings for anything, but they could ask "how are you", "what's going on", etc., etc. You don't just say nothing to Peyton. He's done too much for the Colts. I'm not saying in the end it only make sense the Colts part ways with him, but communicate something to him NOW. I'm so FREAKIN' mad about this!

  14. It sounds to me like no one in the "House" or "Family" has been communicating with Peyton! In the scenario that seems to be unfolding, I'm on Peyton's side 100%. He's done too much for this franchise and city to be treated this way. Talk to the man! Someone should communicate something to him. This is ridiculous! I hope he kicks *** wherever he ends up playing...including kicking our *****.

  15. No disrespect to any Patriots fans, but I really didn't want to see your team in the Colts stadium for the Super Bowl. Now here it is...you're going to be here. I'm not sure I can enjoy watching the Super Bowl now. It's bad enough the Colts ended up being the worst team in the NFL the year we host the SB, but to have NE coming in only adds to the bad season. The only thing I can hope now is that someone beats NE. We'll see, but I suspect NE will win.

  16. Why cant we keep peyton...Why is it he cant come and be a colt next year.... It really gets annoying seeing people say we dont need to bring him back over and over again..

Sorry I think he will be back. And I hope he retires a colt...thats all I would like for Peyton. This era has been nothin but about Peyton. So why not finish this era right and finish it when he retires, Not saying we should continue to have a poor defense or whatever.

But Build around the star of our team instead of ditching our star for someone who hasnt made a professional name for them selves

The Colts could keep him, but at what cost? I'm only speaking of what I hear on some of the sports shows. What they're saying makes sense if you look at the Colts like a business (as it is). Assuming we draft Luck and he turns out to be as good as expected, it doesn't make sense to keep Peyton and pay all that money. We need the money to bring other parts of the team up to speed. Obviously, I would love to see Peyton retire as a Colt. I don't know that it makes sense though.
