Headline: A Space Alien is Coaching Anthony Richardson - total nonsense, but someone will read it and think that's gotta be true.

    I agree 100%.  This guy needs reps…

You can practice making mistakes as well as practice correcting them. This means a coach has to decide which path a player is on whether to give him reps or not. Once a player discovers his mistakes, and how not to make them, then reps are a good idea.

You don't want a player who perfectly makes mistakes.

  4. AR knows that he is gifted and is prone to spasms of youthful exuberance. If he's lucky, he will temper that without losing it altogether. Favre never outgrew that "gunslinger" tendency, and he's well thought of in hindsight.

Anyone who seriously complains about our first preseason game doesn't know much about the NFL. If you expected perfection from the start, you're delusional. I thought it went much better than I expected.

Here are my observations from the Bills game, in no particular order

    1. I love the velocity of AR5's throws. Pow!  Zoom!  No dying quails here.  I also loved that he ran the ball into the defender like he was a tight end.  The off-the-charts physicality is there.  He still needs to catch up on a lot of experience.  The INT wasn't good.  Nor were the accuracy on some of the throws.  But he could have been worse.  A lot worse.  Overall, I'm hopeful.
    2. I absolutely LOVE Downs.  How shifty can you get?  How exciting can you get?  This guy is electric.
    3. Rick Venturi broke the "BASICALLY" meter again.  I'm gonna have to get a new, super-duty one.  Because he can't stop saying it.
    4. If you want to win the first game, then starting Minshew will give you a better chance.  He's not as flashy or exciting as AR5, but he's more steady.
    5. It's still gonna be a bumpy ride with our young defensive backs.  Some bad coverage, some great plays.
    6. Pinter and French are absolutely BAD.  I'd rather just put two traffic cones out there.  Seriously, I think UDFA Emil Ekiyor is already better than either of them.
    7. Not all that happy that the only TD scored was by a rookie with a pick-6.  Nada from the starting offense.  Nada from the 2nd string.
    8. Um...  I though we were supposed to take the next step with our kicking?  One missed FG; one missed XP.  That's 4 points.  Guess how much Buffalo won by?
    9. We had a lot of missed coverages by our LB's.  Need to button that up if we intend to win.
    10. Totally enjoyed the play of Grant Stuard.  Great special teams player.  Exciting playing defense as well.  Although he wasn't always that effective.  But he was fun to watch!
    11. My boy, Blake Freeland, didn't play bad in the place of starter Brandon Smith.  He wasn't great.  But he was easily as good as any of our tackles we've started over the last two years!

Overall, I saw some things to be pleased about, and some things that still need a lot of work.  This is a team with a sushi-raw rookie QB, and a lot of rookies in prime positions, trying to figure out how to play this game at this level.  I think Josh Downs may wind up as Colts rookie of the year at the end of the season.

To be honest, there are a lot of things we need to button up. That said, I really like where we are.

  6. Doyle is either trying to lower expectations, or he completely misses the point of this season - entertaining football while trying to learn how to win as a team. His view of this recent history of the Colts has tainted is vision of the future.

I can see where the Colts are coming from not 100% confident in Taylor bouncing back from the injure and reluctant to extend a big new contract. Maybe both sides could agree on adding incentives to his existing contract so Taylor could come back and prove and doubters wrong by having a good bounce back year and earning some extra bucks by reaching the incentives. If he did it would be a win-win for both sides.

And provisions for an insurance policy for career ending injuries in the final years of his contract.

    100% this.

The next great receiving back who springs up, whether Bijan or even our own Evan Hull needs to start shifting the battle back to the Leveon story i.e. we should get paid as great backs plus a little something on top for our receiving abilities, and if they can block too? They'd better add that to contract talks. That's how they need to approach this. They cant get too greedy though...shift the story first, then the next set of guys need to shift the story to how they help the Line out. If the Zoom backs want to shift the story and get backs paid again, they need to be strategic about it. JT is also holding a losing hand there...he's a great runner but he's no Leveon Bell catching, and his blocking is terrible compared to Edge or Addai or Dom so the back the group should have picked should have been someone like Ekeler but he dipped and took his money when he had the chance.

No matter how great you are, someone younger will rise up and kick your butt. Ask me how I know.

JT has had one elite season. The other two have been teasers for multiple reasons that are not all on him.

He has HoF potential....that's just it though, potential. So, the ol fella has to curate his brand and this is JT doing JT, this isnt some empty head, this is a smart, thoughtful fella, he cut agents to get this money.

He's made his point and I think the larger story is what he and other backs want to force the NFL to acknowledge or act on, the problem is they've got zero leverage. None. This battle was lost when that dazzling Steeler back, LeVeon Bell couldn't get paid. In retrospect, Bell should have taken that money and reshaped the way RB contracts were thought of and crafted in future, instead it got acrimonious and he ultimately lost out which is what Jim Irsay tried ineloquently to point out in that 'airhead moment' tweet, everyone loses in the NFL, the machine goes on.

If Bell who at his prime was everything JT is PLUS an ELITE receiving back, couldn't win, JT certainly hasn't got a prayer. It's a business, JT has a losing hand sadly.

Philosophically, that culture guru the Colts had back in the day, the special units guy whose name escapes me, well he didn't seem to have nailed this. The good boys - JT, Moore, Pitt, Shaq, etc are all smart guys and really good team players, the thing his methodology didnt seem to account for is that smart guys also understand this business and will get theirs as best as they can. Fans need to know this :)

It's very hard to assess "a product's' value with money in any business. The natural tendency is to overestimate its (your) worth in a competitive marketplace, but that gets established by whatever someone is willing to pay (or overpay). Examples: the stock market and the real estate market. If you over-estimate your worth, you can lose a fortune and your reputation. If you underestimate, you leave money on the table. That's life.

That agent is not helping JT at all. I wonder if he has other clients in the league? In the past, Drew Rosenhaus was viewed as the agent teams and fans hated. JT's agent is much worse. He does not comport himself like someone who is representing professionals.

Being an agent requires navigating dangerous waters, and Malki Kawa is running the rapids without a helmet. The framework in which negotiations take place is more constrained than most people (including players, owners and agents) want to admit. Finding the right balance between competing interests isn't pretty - like watching sausage being made. There are tipping points, at which one side decides the alternatives are better than the other. It seems we may have arrived at that point. Sad, because I always liked Taylor.

I've never given a player crap for trying to get a better contract, but this is just silly.

He is still under his rookie contract. He is coming off his worst year ever. He is an incomplete back who is a liability in pass rush and not a great catcher of the football - both things which are becoming more and more required. His character and work ethic have always been stellar, but now he hires this completely unprofessional * agent who is widely hated in MMA circles.

Never has a player so quickly gone from one of my favorites to "meh, who cares" than JT. I hope someone talks some sense into him. If he keeps him up, let him hold out and cut or tag him. He has no trade value given the character issues.

Don't you think it is a little late to talk some sense into Taylor? His bridges may have burned.

So what happens when Taylor and his agent find out he isn’t going to get offered what he wants. Would they be able to mend fences and him come back. I think it is too far gone.

You realize he requested the trade after irsays tweet?

Sadly, given Taylor's injury, it has probably gone too far. Taylor now changes his name to Jonathan Kaepernick Taylor and tries to find a career not in football. His actions give other teams leverage for bottom feeding unless they are desperate.

Just give me a fun, entertaining, tough to the finish line team that shows serious growth through the season and I’ll be happy. I suspect the oddsmakers are right about the Colts having a losing record. But if the Offense under the new staff shows it has talent and imagination; if the D, especially the young backfield, shows by seasons end that it can compete with the best teams….then there is a bright future ahead for us Colts fans.

It's really not worth it to watch the wheels fall off a football team when they have mentally given up. It's even worse when that team has a lot of underdeveloped talent. Maybe that is more a statement about coaching and team culture. Hopefully, now that will change.

  14. I'm not concerned about the wins or losses. I just want the Colts to have fun and play entertaining football. If they can do that, they will learn how to win. If they want to do the same ol' same ol', I've got other things to do like mow the lawn and do laundry.
