Officiating like this always brings me back to the '98 Colts-49ers game. 4 or 5 Phantom PI calls and Colts lose a heartbreaker. Colts got an apology letter. Big whoop...

Apology letters won't cut it. I stopped watching NFL football after the Colts game. The NFL needs to be investigated, and not some "internal investigation". That's not sport, that's only entertainment where the outcome is pre-determined.

Quoting "the analytics" is an excuse people who understand analytics never would use. There are just too many conditional variables to take into consideration.

Analytics quantifies how much you don't know. That's not what coaching is all about - knowing what to do, when and why.

Head Coach Shane Steichen has shown a proclivity for "going for it" on 4th down - even in an area of the field where a field goal is almost a certainty with Matt Gay.

Sadly - the Colts have left TOO MANY "points on the field" by failing to convert most of those 4th down gambles.

Points - that MIGHT have led to a different result in the W-L column.

Channel your inner coach - is Steichen making the RIGHT decision to "go for the gusto" - OR - the WRONG decision by leaving "points on the field"?

He’s an athletic freak, 6-3 210 pounds and runs a 4.34 forty. His tape is very underwhelming tho, he doesn’t look very physical and lacks willingness to tackle. Has somewhat fluid movement from what I can see. Very Raw. Definitely a project player will likely see special team reps. Would’ve like Darius Rush back tho atleast he is familiar with the defensive scheme.

Is the term "project player" the kiss of death to that player's performance? It sure seems like it to me.

Play calling was a disaster. Mustache threw it 55 times, Taylor only got 8 carries, Moss 7. Mustache should not be throwing more than 30 times a game, 30 is reasonable. So far up until yesterday I think Shane has done a really good job, I had him graded out as a B through 5 weeks, yesterday wasn't his best moment unfortunately. We are still 3-3 in a league full of parity, deal with AR being injured, and just to flush this and move on. I am here win or lose, I am not a Fairweather fan, I am a trufan and will watch every week regardless . If the team needs to criticized, I do that too. With this 1 particular game, I am very critical of Shane and Gus. By the way I hate our defensive scheme as well.

The scheme tells you a lot about what the coach thinks about his players and the competition. Often, he assumes that his players can play the scheme. There are many reasons why that can't happen, and it's not often lack of talent. It may be the offense is playing against the scheme (not just the players). If changes aren't made, the defensive coach is giving up on his players.

Sometimes PFF grades don’t match everything you see in a game because they try to grade everything not just one aspect of a position.  Example Franklin graded bad, primarily for coverage issues but I think if you watched the game you know Franklin had a great game.  That’s why PFF is just another tool used to evaluate players and not the end all be all.

    Thanks for the comment.

how many times did the Colts score 20 points last season?

Under Frank, not enough. Being Frank, Frank will continue to be a problem. Shane may make rookie coaching mistakes, but he's far and away better than Frank Reich.

I think what’s most impressive about Shane is that for the most part he took the same team frank has had for the last 5 years, doing it with a rookie and a backup QB. So really, those saying frank needed more players to be successful were quite wrong. It’s early, but I like what I’m seeing now. Frank is also winless right now which is also a huge indication that we’ve had the wrong guy for the last several years.

I wonder how much Frank adversely affected our draft choices? It is obvious that his play calling adversely affected our team and its ability to score points. He might be a nice guy, but he's not a good head football coach.

Record and performance are both way better at this stage than I expected. Honestly, I expected us blown out in at least 3 games with a nail biter in Houston . Despite two losses, we were in both games and haven’t looked rudderless like in previous years.

I hope we continue to show that and build on that going forward.

while I was not an AR draft fan, there has been enough for me to be more optimistic now than I was at the start of training camp. You can see how the young man’s work ethic is driving his success thus far. And that translates down to the rest of the team.

Also, our performance thus far has proven that the roster overall was not as bad as our record indicated the last couple of years and that it really was coaching that was the problem.  I think we’re in good hands.

we do have some things we HAVE to get better at, and we definitely have a talent void at WR to say the least. Possibly CB too but those guys are either rookies or second year players who didn’t play much last year. I think they’ll have ups and downs all year

It was obvious to most people that know football that coaching was the problem in the past.
