Only a desperate team is going to take a guy off your PS roster, that you may not even see on the colts active roster, just to try and screw another teams chance of winning but in the same process force them to cut a roster spot they've wanted for whatever period of time they've used it and then be forced to keep the guy for 4 total weeks on the active roster (or that spot open anyways). Second, if the Colts had the same assessment in Morris as a couple of you have here, they would have cut Tolzien early on, saved some cap space and not risked cutting Morris when they did only hoping he would clear waivers to get to the PS. If you honestly sit back and think about how absurd the theory you proposed (not singling out anyone) is, you can understand how slim the chances are that Morris is an option for another team obtaining to screw us out of using him for 1 game. I don't see it.

To your first point, the Colts ARE a desperate team. We are 5-5. To your second point, no one is claiming Morris is some can't miss talent. However, I do think he probably offers more potential upside than Tolzien. Tolzien is not going to get it done. The guy wasn't even good in college and has been below average in the NFL thus far. Morris at least offers something with his mobility.

most likely true but luckily it's not exactly a "must win" game. Close but not quite.

I think you could easily say it is. To get into the playoffs the Colts at a minimum will probably need to be 9-7. I think Houston would win a tiebreaker if we each had the exact same records. So, we need to go at least 4-2 in these remaining six games. Colts lose tomorrow night they can only afford one more loss. That isn't looking good at that point.

I'll be amazed if Tolzien can manage one touchdown. 30+ ain't gonna happen... Might as well put Patty Mac in to be our starter. He has just as many passes!

And the defense? The defense will have to become the Seattle Seahawks overnight in order to win.

I really hope I am wrong about Tolzien. But to be honest, I couldn't believe the Colts even wasted a roster spot on him. I would rather go with Morris as at least he offers the chance of a big play with his ability to scramble. Tolzien was only slightly above average in college and has been below average, borderline bad in the NFL thus far. People who think we have a chance tomorrow if Luck doesn't play don't realize that Tolzien is not Matt Hasselbeck.

I agree with your take on Tolzien not being able to score. I am holding out hope that Luck can go tomorrow night.

Consecutive 8-8 seasons is not good enough, in my opinion. If we don't finish with a positive win percentage, then I feel the excessive slow starts, inability to play for 4 quarters, and lack of talent and coaching up should warrant change. 9 wins is my bar - anything less is not acceptable.

That being said, with the new deals I could see them getting one more year regardless of outcome this season... but I'm not in agreement with that mindset.

I agree it is not good enough. But, our opinions as fans don't matter (at least until people stop going to the games and Irsay feels the effects financially). I think for Irsay, 8-8 will be good enough for this year given the new deals. Like you, it isn't a mindset I like, but it is what it is.

  5. If they can't go the Colts will need to score 30+ points to win this thing. They may have to anyway even if they are healthy. Defense looked much better against Tennessee which was encouraging. But this will be the best offense they face the entire year.

I have a feeling Luck is going to play.

I agree. While some others are saying Morris not being activated at this point is indicative of nothing, I think he would be active at this point if Luck was going to be out. I think Luck practices today and is ready to go by tomorrow.

It's not that serious. Sit him Thursday..... 10 days before we play again. Mini Bye Week

It was tongue and cheek. Problem with sitting him at all is this team isn't going to win without him, especially against a high scoring outfit like Pitt. Safety first, but Tolzien isn't going to get it done and we need the W if we have any aspirations of going to the playoffs. I'm surprised Tolzien is still even in the league. Would rather have Morris out there as at least he has big play potential.

  8. Given how management kept making Luck's shoulder injury sound like it wasn't a big deal last year, should we assume the worst when even Pagano is acting like he isn't sure this time? Do we find out Luck had bleeding on his brain and his career is over?

Whole thing seems peculiar. He didn't even come out of the game on Sunday and now he is in concussion protocol and can't pass? Very strange.

The Titans have the second best RB in the NFL. Mariotta is on his mark. The Titans offensive line is solid. A Titan victory seems the best bet. The Colt victory over the Packers was deflated after the Pack got hammered by the Titians. Maybe which team is more inspired will play in. The line seems split down the middle. The Texans will most likely get beat this week by the Raiders so in that context the game is a big one. The Colts will not be in the playoffs if they don't win the division as they will not be a wild card.

"A Titan victory seems the best bet."

Not saying the Colts will win (our team is impossible to figure out this year), but you realize the Colts already beat this team right? Plus this game is at home.

  10. I think Harbaugh is more likely than Saban, and Harbaugh isn't likely at all. Saban has about as good a set-up in Tuscaloosa as you can get. Not sure why he would leave that for a team that needs probably at least a good 2-3 seasons before it seriously competes for a SB. Saban isn't a spring chicken. Really, the only chance is that he wants a Super Bowl to be considered one of the greatest football coaches, college or pro, to ever coach the game. Given how difficult it is to win a Super Bowl and Saban's age, I just don't see it.

Is there anyone on this board who can tell me, what kind of thought process was behind signing our current GM, and current HC, to a 4 year extension...? I can understand a 1 or 2 year extension at most but what has been seen by our beloved owner, that makes him feel like this contract has been rightfully earned?

You know, I don't expect to win much this year and the team set the tone of this season for everyone, including the fans. If I were a colts player, it would be hard for me to maintain a positive outlook on the future of this organization (hence Gores statement), especially when the cancer in your locker room is your head coach.

Andrew Luck will be remembered as the most hit QB in the NFL.

    Rant off.

It didn't make sense when it was done and it doesn't make sense now. While others have pointed out that a 1 year extension is frowned upon by GMs and HCs, Pagano's body of work didn't justify anything else. A 1 year extension would have been fair in light of Luck being healthy this year to see what Pagano could then do. However, four years was very excessive and it appears that Irsay is now going to have to dig into his pocket book to rectify this.

If I am being completely honest, I actually wanted Pagano back to see what he could do with Luck being healthy the entire year and with a new OC for Luck to work under (I only wanted it for a 1-2 year extension, however). I actually thought most of the problems were bad offensive playcalling by Pep Hamilton and lack of talent on both sides of the ball. However, it is becoming apparent that the problems run much deeper with this team. Guys like Luck and Gore, two leaders of the team, are beginning to openly be frustrated and seem to question the direction of the team. That isn't a good sign and could be the death knell for Pagano.

IF Irsay is going to fire anyone during the year it will happen during the bye week. I don't think he will, so everyone will have to wait until January for pink slips to be handed out. I don't think anyone gets fired unless they don't win any more games.

I agree. However, if next week is a blowout which is looking like it could be given the mental state of this team, I could see Pagano being let go heading into the bye week with Chud or Philbin being named interim HC.

I know, I know. Pretty much all of our remaining games are must wins, we can afford to lose maybe one or two more at the most the rest of the way to potentially take the AFC south, but with the Texans playing Detroit at home, they have a decent chance of winning that game and if we lose to the Chiefs, we are 2 and a half games down again with the Packers up next AT Lambeau.

To me this is just as much a must win as the Titans game was... We cannot afford to lose to the Chiefs when we have the Packers, Steelers and Vikings  left on the schedule and we can only really afford 1 more loss after that... I hope this Colts team still feels the urgency and aren't going to take their feet off the gas after the scrappy win vs the Titans...

Btw, leave your "We should lose out for better draft picks" comments at the door... I hate that way of thinking, i want to see my team win.... If the 2006 Colts and the 2012 Giants could do it, so could we.

First, yes it is a "must" win if the Colts want to make the playoffs. Second, I wouldn't automatically assume the Texans will beat the Lions. Lions are actually playing pretty well and Texans have major question marks on offense right now.

Honestly, how is taking a knee creating awareness other than the media hyping this ridiculousness. We've been inundated with all of this stuff from the media, and from the political cycle going on. We all know there are problems that need to be addressed , but it's overkill from these Millionaire athletes. Most of us just want to watch a game, without politics creeping into it. That was all Irsay was saying. It's fine if Kaepernick or Cromartie want to express their feelings. Go to Charlotte or Baltimore and make your voices heard. Can we get away from the politics for a few hours and just watch a football game ?

This is the way I think a lot of people, including myself, feel. Even if you simply set aside arguments as to whether or not the message makes sense on that particular stage, a lot of us are just burnt out at this point by the political-racial issues that keep getting shoved down our throats by the media. When we turn the NFL on every Sunday we are looking to escape from that. No matter which side of the fence you are on I think most of us as football fans are ready for it just to be a football game again.

  15. 24-20 Titans. Like everyone else I think Murray has a huge day. I also think Mariota will have something like 200 pass yards and 40-50 rush yards. Will be another long day for the defense.

Then again, nothing would surprise me and I can see the Colts suddenly playing much better and winning this one. Just no more blown double-digit 4th quarter leads please.

  16. This team can get into the playoffs based upon the fact that it has Luck at QB and we play in the AFC South. Take away either of those two facts from the equation though and this would not be a playoff team which speaks volumes about the rest of the roster outside of Luck and how bad the AFC South is.

I agree with some of the others. At the end of the day maybe it is better to get the high draft pick rather than make the playoffs just to go one and done. That said, I am still rooting for the team to win every week. I honestly expect us to lose to Tennessee this Sunday though and I think that will essentially be the nail in the coffin for our playoff chances. Only way we win is if the Colts offense can put up 28+ points because I think our D is going to struggle with Murray and Mariota.

Well just maybe there are some who haven't thrown in the towel?  As a Colt fan I say play hard and do the best you can. Quitting goes past losing games.

What about the respect that Gore deserves and has worked hard for?  He came in hopes of helping this team, not to used up and traded away when he can still contribute.

As a fan I have a have a hard time accepting that the Colts need to make any move that makes them less competitive.

And IMO it is ridiculous for any fan of the Colts to feel that way. These are men, not robots and or throwaways.

Win or lose Gore deserves more respect than what you think he deserves or should get.

I highly respect Gore and love his game. He gives his all on every play and it shows. He is a true professional. If anything, I think Chud underutilizes him.

We're all Colts fans and want the Colts to do well. I will never root for the Colts to lose even in a year like this where our ceiling is probably making the playoffs to take a butt whooping in the WC. That said, this team is just so flawed it has zero chance at competing for a Super Bowl. Hence, if you can get something like a 5th round pick for a guy who isn't going to be with our organization much longer, I think you do it. As much as I like Gore that is a hard business decision that you make every time IMO.

  18. 38 minutes ago, crazycolt1 said:

This is wild. People talking about trading Gore for some 5th or 6th round pick.

Our best RB by a large margin and this kind of talk?

I understand a lot of fans are frustrated and I get that. But to start talking out of your minds is ridiculous.

Gore is 33 years old. He has maybe one -- at most two -- seasons left in the tank after this current season. That's probably being generous. All indications are that our team this year has become a dumpster fire. If you can trade Gore for a 5th round pick you do that all day long. It isn't even remotely ridiculous. Problem is no team is ever going to make that offer unless they are a SB contender that suffers horrific RB injuries. Even then it is highly unlikely.

IF it happened, would it make the team worse this year? Yes, it would. But at the same time, if we're going to lose let's give someone reps who is going to be part of the future like Ferguson. Throw him to the wolves I say.

I hate to be the guy to compare luck and Peyton I understand luck is his own guy but I am curious if he's a workaholic like Peyton used to be. I remember hearing about Peyton and Marvin staying hours after practice working on timing and routes and it showed in their play. Does luck demand the amount of practice and preparation that manning did with his receivers? I know he probably doesn't. No one will ever compare to Peyton's almost psycho work ethic and obsession with football, ( luck seems more well rounded in his interests where Peyton lived for football). Is there even a comparison between the two to be had or is it not even close?

    *

I am not sure. However, did Manning really do any of that within his first five years in the league? I think once Luck becomes more of a veteran presence that he may start demanding more from his teammates rather than being a more passive Mr. Nice Guy like he has outwardly appeared to be the last few years.

I do think there is a level of frustration to him this year on the field that I don't remember seeing before.
