No Envy here.   But everyone has their own take on things and  I can understand and appreciate your thinking.

I think for me, it's more about the fanbase. :dunno:     I am not a fan of arrogance. Never have been.   I was never a "fan" of N.E.,   but that intensified for me after joining this  forum several years ago, and dealing with certain arrogant N.E. fans.

Pats fans certainly are spoiled. Cowherd actually just talked about how spoiled Boston fans are in general just yesterday on his show. My experience though is that every fanbase in any sport has their share of arrogant *s, but most fans are generally okay. Some fanbases are certainly worse than others though.

And we can try to act like it isn't due to envy that we enjoy seeing the Pats lose, but if you knew a bunch of arrogant Browns fans I doubt you would care one way or another when they lost. Am I right?

I admit it...  I'm not afraid to admit it...   I get great pleasure watching the Pats lose.   Always have.    I don't have an inferiority complex,  I just don't like the Pats.

Yes, my wife and a couple of buddies all loathe the Pats as well. You certainly aren't alone. It is hard for me not to respect Belicheck and Brady though. I know that if they were our HC and QB we would worship the ground they walk on and wouldn't care at all that Brady liked putting less air in the football he throws. So for me to actively dislike them just because they aren't affiliated with my team and have experienced tremendous success over the course of the past 15 years, albeit sometimes in a dubious manner, seems like it is less about despising how they do things and more about envy.

  3. Yes, let's all celebrate the end of the Patriots dynasty. Of course, when they win 6-7 straight beginning next week we'll all come back down to Earth.

I have never understood why so many Colts fans relish the Pats losing. I was pulling for KC because they were the underdog, but some people are actually elated to see the Pats lose and actively root against them.  I am sure someone will bring up Spygate, Deflategate, etc., but it makes our fanbase look like we have a serious inferiority complex.

  4. Connecting downfield for a big play has been a major strength for this offense since Luck and Hilton have been here. That isn't going to change with Dorsett gone. Once Luck gets back, the offense should be as explosive as ever. The problem has always been slow developing plays and OL play. Quicker hitting in the passing game with possession receivers is what the offense needs -- not more speedster WRs.

  5. This would make no sense whatsoever. First, Osweiler is not worth the money by a long shot. He is a bad QB. Is he better than what the Colts have right now? Probably by a bit but not by much. Second, he isn't so much better that is worth spending the money on for a couple of games (a couple of games we hope anyway!) because Colts probably either win or lose those regardless of who is at QB. It will take a total team effort. Last, We are less than a month away from the regular season and to bring in a guy who has no knowledge of the team or playbook is silly.

This has to be nonsense. Ballard isn't this dumb.

I think we got to find a way to keep this kid.   I've watched the replay of that game more than once.  Natson is a gamer and I love his swagger and toughness.   He's not afraid in the least bit and he gets open.  I think he will continue to make plays.

I fear if Colts let him go it will be Dion Lewis all over again. Nat will go someplace else and start tearing it up. He definitely popped off the screen in the game on Sunday more so than any of the other non-starters. I agree he needs to be given a full-roster spot and not just be put on the PS.

  7. We can't see each and every day of practice, so who knows what the coaching staff sees. However, in actual preseason game time both this season and last, Morris has clearly outperformed Tolzien. Morris also looks to have better physical attributes in terms of throwing power and mobility. He does seem more erratic than Tolzien, but that is partly because he seems to take greater risks while Tolzien likes to play it safe and minimize mistakes.

For our team, Morris gives us a better chance to win IMO. We need to take risks on offense because we don't have a good defense. If we had the Texans, Chiefs, or Seahawks' defenses on the other side of the ball and we could afford to play safe ball on offense, maybe you go with Tolzien. With our current situation I think Morris should play, and his continued superior performances to Tolzien I think warrant giving him a shot with the 1s to see how he does.

I'll leave it there & we'll just have to agree to disagree cause there's not a chance of anyone convincing me that Tolzien deserves a job in the NFL

Tolzien was a slightly above average QB at Wisconsin in college. He wasn't great in college, not even really good. How he made it in the NFL in the first place I am not really sure.

I think a lot of it might be a confidence issue with Morris since he was demoted behind Walker even (what exactly was that about anyway?). Would probably explain his bad start yesterday. Give him the 1st string reps though this week and see how he does. His march for a game-ending TD yesterday earned him that much IMO. That was infinitely better than anything we saw out of Tolzien or Walker. Just using the eye test, Morris looks the best out of the three and has for over a year in relation to Tolzien specifically.

On special teams he had no fear.  He just saw the seam and hit it.

That's the way you're supposed to do it instead of all that dancing around.

Yes -- despite being one of the smallest guys out there he didn't shy away from the contact either. Maybe he should rein that in a little bit to avoid injury but I liked the speed and toughness combo he was displaying.

  10. I didn't get to watch the entire game yesterday, but when I was watching this Natson guy was definitely sticking out in a good way. First, on punt returns he seems to have a very big burst and can get going quickly. Second, he seemed like he was open quite a bit later in the game when he became one of the receivers on the field. He actually reminded me a bit of the type of player that has single-handily killed the Colts in the past. Little speedster who gets going fast and rips the Colts up for YAC.

I am an ignoramus when it comes to who has what chance of making the team. Can someone in the know tell me if Natson will likely be making the roster? I certainly hope he does. Seems like he could pretty useful in certain situations as well as PR/KR.

The NFL does not need "beyond reasonable doubt".  A court of law does.  Or maybe something happened where certain testimony would not be allowed in court.  Who knows.  But the NFL does not need to prove anything, they just need to convince themselves of any evidence they get.

This is a big reason why Brady tried taking his case to the Supreme Court, it wasn't about deflated footballs, it was about if the NFL had the right suspend players based on beliefs and suppositions rather than facts.  The Circuit court ruled that the NFL does, in fact have that right.

Yes, I am aware of the burden of proof. But I also know from personal experience that it doesn't always stop a prosecutor from being a charge that isn't certain to stick too.

Like you said -- who knows.

Yes, still frames the victim took of herself, not the striking incidents themselves. Ohio DA didn't have metdata to corrorate times/dates.  When the NFL investigated, they got that data too.  And lots of other items.

There were some things that have been uncovered later in the very long and thorough NFL investigation.  Ohio DA also had some conflicting statements, at least one in which the victim said something that wasn't true, and the NFL knows about this too.  But there was way to much evidence for the NFL not to apply the punishment for violating the PCP, which was re-written because of how they handled the Ray Rice case and others in that time frame.

"We are of the view that there is substantial and persuasive evidence supporting a finding that [Elliott] engaged in physical violence against Ms. Thompson on multiple occasions during the week of July 16, 2016."

After reviewing the record, and having considered the views of the independent advisors, the commissioner determined that the credible evidence established that Elliott engaged in conduct that violated NFL policy.

Elliott may appeal this decision within three days. If he does not appeal, Elliott's suspension will begin September 2, the day of final roster reductions for NFL teams. He is eligible to participate in all preseason practices and games. Elliott will be eligible to return to the team's active roster on Monday, October 23 following the Cowboys Sunday, October 22 game against the SF 49'ers.

The NFL had strong warning that should Elliott be involved in another incident having the involvement of Law Enforcement, he would be banned from the league.

I think he could apply for reinstatement after 1 year, but Goodell/NFL doesn't have to let him back in, and wouldn't unless he showed great leaps in rehab of his 'issues'.

Interesting info. Thanks for that. I am still surprised that if there is enough there for the NFL to ban him that there isn't enough for a prosecutor's office to charge him. That's what isn't quite adding up for me. Prosecutors overcharge all of the time, so the DA must really have zero confidence in the victim as a witness if he's unwilling to bring anything.

    .

but here's the thing.  If you intentionally hold him out of preseason even though he's medically cleared, then you're sending him into game 1 on the road against an already great Rams defense that is only going to be better with Wade Phillips at the helm...he has pioneered some of the best attacking 3-4 defenses in history, and now he's got a team that yeah he's going to be making some adjustments to the scheme, but he has a lot of talent to work with.  so you'd be sending him out there with no live game action with nothing more than practice (and we all know that practices arent' what they used to be) against the DC known best for finding ways to get to the QB.

IMO, sending Luck out against Wade's defense with zero live game action is more likely to get him injured than playing him in preseason.

I'm not disagreeing that Luck isn't going to be as ready as he would be if he got a little live-game action in preseason. I just don't think the reward justifies the risk. I am okay with losing the first game of the season if it means Luck is completely healthy. I'd hate for him to play in the third preseason game and take a shot that aggravates the old injury that isn't quite healed and is then nagging him throughout the regular season (or worse -- completely out) all just so he could get back in the groove a little sooner.

Again, I think the fact he has five years under his belt makes the preseason less important than it would be if he was a rookie or 2nd or even 3rd year player. Yes, he'll be rusty the first game in LA against a good defense, but I am willing to live with that.

I don't think people realize how important reps are to a QB during the offseason. Training camp is a vital piece of preparation. Luck is one of the best QB's in the league. I honestly believed he would be MVP back in May. But with the low amount of reps he will get, and possibly missed games, it's hard to make that statement sound legitimate.

I'm not saying he shouldn't get reps in practice -- and I of course agree that they are very important regardless of how good the player is. But I wouldn't play him in a preseason game and open him up to someone from another team taking a shot at him when he is vulnerable and still recovering.

I agree with you that he was excellent last year and without the injury may have been in the MVP discussion.

Man I hope he can get in for the third preseason game. He's not a Peyton type of timing based QB but I'd like to see him kick off some rust. We can beat the Rams with a rusty Luck or Tolzien.

I wouldn't play him at all in the preseason. Why risk it for a meaningless game? Luck may not have quite the timing he otherwise would in L.A., but its a risk/reward balance. He will be fine without playing in preseason and it won't take him long to get back up to speed assuming he is healthy. He is entering his sixth year at this point and is a true veteran.

Our defense is improved and running game could be better. We should be able to beat the Rams with Tolzein if Luck needs to be out week 1.

Like your optimism, but honestly I think the Colts lose by 10-14 pts on the road at the Coliseum if Luck doesn't play. The Rams defense will be the difference maker even if their offense is putrid like last year. I think it would be too much for Tolzien or Morris in the first game of the season to handle.

  17. The Jets giving up a 2nd or 3rd for Dorsett would be completely absurd. Dorsett hasn't shown that he can even be a reliable No. 2 receiver at this juncture in his career. I think you may offer a 5th rounder tops for him if you believe he needs a change of scenery to succeed, but no more than that. Even then that is wishful thinking on the Colts side.

  18. I've seen the media take shots quite a bit here and there at Indianapolis/Indiana. However, outside of Skip Bayless (who is just a personality on TV anyway that has a scripted "hate" for Luck), I honestly haven't seen anyone trash Andrew Luck. If anything, the media has echoed the fans in its call for management to put a better OL and defense in place to help Luck and has acknowledged how incredible his accomplishments have been on a team completely devoid of big-time talent outside of a few guys.
