There seems to be a compatibility issue with Windows 8 if you use Avast! Antivirus. Which is the antivirus I used. I hope they fix this soon. It's recommended to run under Windows Defender. Does anyone know if that is a good protection?

Are you sure that it's incompatible? I don't know the specifics about either antivirus program you mention, but that kind of problem would be a bit unusual.

I could understand if you had a problem upgrading to Windows 8 because some portion of Avast was active in the background and prevented the install from working properly. If that was the issue you should be able to completely eliminate Avast from your system, upgrade to 8, and then reinstall Avast.

also understand if Avast didn't work and play well with 8 if Defender was already active in the background - which I assume is the default setting. I would think that if you shut down every aspect of defender before re-installing Avast, it would work.

Don't know for sure, it just seems odd that one of the most popular antivirus programs would simply not work with such an important operating system - one for which they would have gotten the coding information they needed a...
