Hunt isn’t signing with us because of the thought of JT coming back and being the clear number 1…..

Until JT is traded or activated I highly doubt any RB that is a veteran will sign with the Colts. Moss - Jackson - Funk are our guys until JT is resolved.

Seems so for this week. But if the running game does not improve after Houston, I wouldn't be shocked if they made a move... or, I also believe, we are one injury away from a RB signing

  2. Aside from the lack of opening holes for our running game, I thought the line did ok. Most of the Jaguars pressures, came as a result of missed blocking assignments, on blitzes and stunts or AR holding the ball a bit too long. Raimann looked good once again. Fries and the rest didn't do too bad pass protecting. Some work is needed on run blocking. Perhaps the Jags defense is good against the run? I'd say, with the new offensive system, lets give the line a chance to come together, before we decide certain  players need to be replaced this early on.

  3.

I watched the game again on reply.

    Not a bad overall performance.

Defense played well. Buckner and Franklin were outstanding.

The d line had a nice game, as did Speed.

Leonard played ok. If Leonard avoids injury, he should get better as the season moves along and can accel with this group around him.

I thought our young group of db's played decent enough.

Offense performance was up and down.

Richardson looks good. Showed some poise. A few inaccurate throws, but a good amount on target. His running ability is outstanding. Considering his age and lack of playing time in college, his first game in the NFL... Quite impressive.

Running game struggled, with a few decent carries here and there. Would have liked to seen more of Hull. Hoping his injury is minor. Jackson did not have a good game. His best run was called back on a (penalty). Although, he did make a few gains, and should be given credit where it is due. Jake Funk had a nice game. Funk looks like a better 3rd down back (over Jackson) good receiver out of the backfield.

Outside of Pittman, WR group showed little. Downs made a play or two, but did not catch a couple as well. Not much from Alec Pierce.

Granson made some positive receptions at TE, but he left Josh Allen run right by on a blitz, clobbering our RB in the backfield.

Andrew Ogletree, showed a glimpse of greatness early, only to get injured once again. Wish they would had Will Mallory as an option (inactive)  Mo Alie-Cox appears to be no more than a blocker at TE. He did poorly in coverage, on the big punt return by Jamal Agnew. Not exactly the guy I like to see covering punts.

After watching the game over, I thought offensive line, for the most part, protected decently. The Jaguars pressures mainly came on blitzes and stunts, allowing unblocked rushers to disrupt AR5

I noticed Raimann did well. I believe Smith and Fries may have got pushed around on a play or two early, but in general, the line held up.

However, there just were not many holes to run through. Maybe Jacksonville is a very good defense against the run? Or else, the Colts need to improve the run blocking. Probably a combination of the two factors.

As for Coaching, I like the enthusiasm Steichen gives. The team appeared to me, to play with more heart than I have seen in a long time. I do not like the way Shane seems to always prefers to go for the 4th downs, rather than punt or kick the field goal. But since it was also his first game as head coach, he should be given a pass (on game management) this week

One is Ridley, one is Pittman.

Yes, almost identical statistically. I just thought Ridley looked more like a gamebreaker of the two. I agree Pitt is a very good WR. But my point is, I just don't think Pittman is the type of player, who gives our opponents headaches game planning for. When it comes time for his new contract, how high do we go? Do you think Pittman deserves to be paid in the upper echelon at his position?

Colts' Evan Hull: Appears to avoid serious injury

Hull, who was forced from the Week 1 loss to the Jaguars with a knee issue, isn't believed to be dealing with a significant injury but will undergo further testing to confirm, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.

I think after today your going to see Steichen make sure Pittman is Richardsons security blanket. He didn’t really have any targets first half.second half there was some adjustments. Downs looked good too.

I just don't see Pittman as a top tier wr. Don't get me wrong, I think Pitt is ok. But today Calvin Ridley looked much more dangerous.

  7. For anyone wondering how it works?

    https://www.patspulpit.com/2022/8/31/23331557/2022-nfl-practice-squad-explained-how-it-works-rules-eligible-players

What if a team promotes its own practice squad player?

...teams are now allowed to elevate players from their practice squad to the game day roster without having to cut a member of the 53-man team. Accordingly, teams can increase from the standard 53 to 55 players while game day active squads expand from a previous 46 to 47 players (or 48 if a team carries eight offensive linemen). Any practice squad player can be elevated and automatically reverts back to the developmental roster after a game.

Teams can use this method of promotion on the same player no more than three times a year. If the Patriots, for example, want to have one of their practice squad players on their active game day roster for a fourth game, they will have to go the standard route of promotion, moving him to replace another player on the 53-man roster and, if necessary, exposing him to waivers if the plan is to revert him back to the practice squad...

  8. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/nfl-youtube-and-youtube-tv-are-only-place-to-subscribe-to-sunday-ticket

YouTube and YouTube TV are only place to subscribe to Sunday Ticket

...On Friday morning, the NFL issued a clear, unambiguous reminder of that fact.

“YouTube and YouTube TV are the only place to go for fans at home wanting to subscribe to NFL Sunday Ticket,” NFL executive vice president of communications Jeff Miller said in a statement. “We are aware of consumer confusion resulting from advertising in the marketplace. The NFL wants its millions of fans to know where to get NFL Sunday Ticket and that we stand against deceptive advertising.”

The deceptive advertising to which Miller refers is, indeed, the commercials from DirecTV in which Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce says, “DirecTV Sports Central gives you access to every game.”

The NFL, we’re told, is concerned that this campaign has confused NFL fans and consumers. How can DirecTV offer access to every game if it no longer offers Sunday Ticket?

...Bottom line. If you’re thinking about subscribing to Sunday Ticket, YouTube and YouTube TV are the two services that directly provide it for in-home use...

...DirecTV still has a relationship with the NFL, making Sunday Ticket available to bars and restaurants.

If we can get vintage Leonard back on the field, I feel really good about our LBers. We just need a pass rush and secondary now..... eesh.

Am i the only one who is low key really quite worried about our defense? I have hopes for the pass rush, but not high ones, and that would be even more straining on our DBs.... I can see us giving up a lot of infuriating 3rd and longs, or our DBs just straight up getting shredded.

Quite a few new faces as options out there, to go along with the regulars. Which I am taking as a positive. Ebukam, Bryan, Martin, Land, Adebawore and Lewis (returning healthy) Should be interesting to see, as a group, what kind of a pass rush they can generate?

If the pass rush is there, I believe the young DBs will do quite well

    Me either.

I'm hoping we pull out the division, until the moment we can't anymore.(if that moment comes? Lol)

Probably be a long season, but time will tell. A win week 1 would be a pretty big deal.

    1-0 overall

    1-0 against division

    1-0 against division favorites

    1-0 against AFC

A loss will be just that, an expectation by most.

As for the Colts... as I have said for the past year or so, I believe we will do just fine, and compete for the division, ONLY IF the line can block better.

Not sure if you're referring to projections on here or national syndicate?

I was talking about national articles.

Either way it doesn't matter too much.(Just a tidbit, I should of probably put in my last post.

Jacksonville should be favored to be in the playoffs because of our division, and how they ended last year, so not surprised in that at all.

I was shocked that so many left the Bills out though. Yes it's a tough division/conference, but they have been one of the top teams the last few years.

Yes. I was talking about national predictions. Every one I saw picked the Jags. I am not surprised either, since our division leaves little to be desired. I'm certainly not convinced they are a sure thing to the division. Not really that sold on their roster.

As for the Bills predictions... I guess they are all jumping on the Dolphins or Jets? Who I predict will disappoint as well.

I think that door has closed unless we get a major injury at guard.

Yes, I agree. Maybe here, we should just wait a few weeks, to see how all the O-line positions look first, before we jump to the conclusion, that RG is an absolute must position to upgrade.

I remember last year, many times, when the blocking protection failed, it was because two Colts would block the same defender, leaving another, unblocked player a free path to our QB... and also, when the opposition would run a stunt, our line seemed to have no idea who to block.

I believe, it was not all physical talent issues, but rather, a lot of the problem was scheme design and blocking assignments.

Hopefully, with this new coaching staff, they can correct those faults, and we get a better look at how skilled our linemen actually are?

  13. https://www.stampedeblue.com/2023/9/5/23860745/colts-hosted-veteran-og-ike-boettger-for-free-agent-visit-on-tuesday

The Colts brought in reliable backup Ike Boettger for a look on Tuesday, who was a locker room favorite in Buffalo.

...The 6’6”, 313 pound former undrafted free agent out of Iowa has played for the Buffalo Bills, appearing in 34 career games (17 starts) during his five NFL seasons. He also had a short stint with the Kansas City Chiefs organization...

...It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Colts make another roster move to add depth to their interior offensive line before this weekend’s regular season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars—as it’s a pretty thin group right now.

Boettger was regarded as a reliable backup and locker room favorite in Buffalo.

Thanks for the ideas guys.  I already have a VPN, so I'm probably going to set that to the Indianapolis market, pay for NFL+, and then I'll be able to stream live Colts games from NFL plus using the VPN.  Thanks for the ideas and all of the help!

    I have NFL+ subscription.

Be advised, it does not work the way you mention above.

NFL+ gives you access to every game and every team on replay. regardless of "market"

the only "live" games it allows one to watch are "primetime". So Thursday Night / Sunday Night / Monday Night are available live on phone or tablet only (cannot watch live primetime games on smart tvs or Roku etc)

Since this year, the Colts do not play any games in primetime, NFL plus will not work, if you want to watch live.

However, as soon as the Sunday afternoon games are finished, NFL+ subscription allows one to watch complete games on replay. (these replays are able to be watched on tv, Roku etc)

So, for example, if this week you want to watch Jags at Colts (1:00 pm EDT). NFL+ subscribers will have the entire game available to watch around 4:00 pm EDT and any time thereafter

  15. https://www.stampedeblue.com/2023/9/4/23859073/report-colts-worked-out-former-jaguars-rb-james-robinson-on-monday

...Robinson tore his Achilles during Week 16 of the 2021 season, the same injury suffered by former Colts 1,000+ yard rusher Marlon Mack, and really hasn’t been as productive ever since—having spent time with the New York Jets (*where he was traded), New England Patriots, and New York Giants organizations.

If signed, Robinson brings a hard nosed running style and would presumably fill the ‘between the tackles’/short yardage skill-set that is currently missing in Zack Moss’s absence. Moss (elbow) is expected to be medically cleared in the next week or two, with maybe an outside chance for the opener (*as working out Robinson here likely means that Moss may be at least another week away, but he is apparently ‘progressing well’)...
