From your lips to Gods ears.   I hope something like that happens.

NFL.com just had their final mock with Jeremiah and Brooks.  And they had Mitchell falling to the Colts and we take him.   I don’t even want the Colts to use a first on a corner, but if it’s Mitchell, I’ll be over the moon!

Mitchell was voted the top corner of the Senior Bowl.  Then he tested thru the roof at the combine.  In 2.5 seasons at Toledo he has over 50 pass break ups!  That’s not a typo, over 50!    The only negative are his 31 inch arms.  But the exception is that’s what Gilmore has, 31 inches.  If you can play, you can play.   He screams Ballard pick!

I’m worried some team will grab him early thinking he’s on the level of Sauce Gardner.  Sure hope not.  We will find out soon!

It will be what it will  be but we better not draft another  quincy wilson.

Hard to see 5 QB's going before P 15. 4 yes but IMO 5 is highly unlikely. So I'm thinking there aren't going to be "desperate " teams making moves that enable a great player falling to P 15. The more realistic hope is that a couple teams really are enamored with an OT and the highest rated CB or 2 drops from 12-13 to 15. Bowers is a possibility but I think for Turner or one of the top 3 Wrs falling to 15 is a pipe dream . It will take a trade to around P 8 to get Turner or one of those WRs.

We need to draft worthy. He is the next tyreek Hill. His speed truly jumps off the tape especially  after watching  adonai  Mitchell  beforehand.  Mitchell  is a more polished  route runner, but his top end speed doesn't  compare. Plus worthy is better at yards after the catch. Pair him with Richardson  arm and continue to improve his  route running  and it will be like manning to Harrison.

For me it depends on how the Colts view Thomas in terms of his route running ability. If he can run numerous routes well he can be a great all around WR. If his routes are limited to deep routes similar to what Pierce is best at, then it’s probably a wasted pick.

Not really we could draft him  and trade  pierce

Downs broke out in year one. He has incredible quickness off the line, and is fast enough to take most any match up deep. He also sees holes in the  zones instantly, he is a great slot. We do have all the necessary receiving weapon to exploit a D. Of course a 3rd WR that plays fast would be a great add. 3rd rd makes sense.

We need a speedy  outside guy to take pressure  off pittman  and downs. Can't  count on pierce improving so wr in first or second would be ideal. By the third round it may be hard to find an elite outside  guy to compliment  pittman.

I think Steichen and Wayne had a lot of input on Downs. He was also a 8.99 RAS, even with really poor size on that rating. So he makes up for it in other ways.

and if you think he “just focuses on RAS,” I really don’t know what to tell you. That’s an interesting perspective…

I noticed  most the guys he drafts have a high ras and some don't  have the production in college. Based on how he drafted in the past adonai Mitchell,  Brian Thomas jr, xavier legette, Rome odunze, devontez walker,  Ricky Pearsall, Johnny wilson, Cornelius Johnson are all wrs he would draft due to high ras. Out of that list Thomas, odunze, and Pearsall  should be good. Wilson does have enough production  and don't  trust legette's late break out. Haven't  done any looking into Johnson, Mitchell  is said to take plays off when he doesn't  get the ball, walker has questionable hands at times.

Ballard took Campbell because that’s who Frank loved.   And do you know who else passed on McLaurin, Brown and Metcalf?  The rest of the NFL 2-3 times each.   Those guys went in the 50’s and 60’s.

    Everything is obvious in hindsight.

I disagree agree the only hindsight  one was McLaurin,  but the vast majority  of us were hoping he would take brown or metcalf.

Does it matter where he got him?  People praised Polian all the time for finding undrafted guys, the most notable being Jeff Saturday, and yet some how it’s a strike against Ballard.  I am sorry, and maybe this isn’t your point, but when people go but Ballard didn’t draft this guy it sounds like trying to find a technicality to avoid having to give Ballard credit for acquiring a good player.

Ballard  gets credit for finding  moore, but we are saying  he has been bad a picking corners early in the draft and his early safety pick didn't  pan out for us either

I really think Ballard will go after a CB on day 2 like Cam Hart. He has all the measurables Ballard loves. He'll be our version of JuJu Brents from last year.

As long as he picks people that can play we should be fine. Hopefully  he doesn't  out smart himself  like he did years  ago when he passed on McLaurin,  aj brown, and metcalf for Campbell.

He did get drafted in the 4th round, however, Ballard has not proven he can draft an elite corner. He can draft good ones late, but no elite ones. Sneed was a nice scheme fit that could play zone, and I'm pretty sure he'll be better than any 3rd round corner that will be available in that range for us (and the Titans got him for a 2025 3rd rounder). I saw the presser, and one year of experience isn't going to be enough to overcome not having an elite CB on this team. He mentioned the O-Line, but the O-Line had Nelson, Braden Smith, and Ryan Kelly. All the CB room has is Kenny Moore. As good as he is, he's a slot corner.

I would love to get someone like a Cam Hart for the Colts, but we are projecting, and it has to happen. Getting a CB that hits in the first 3 rounds is best-case scenario. We can make excuses for Ballard and say it's ok and he has a plan, but there has to be a time when fans need to admit he is just risk-averse. We'll see in 5 days how the Colts end up. I still expect to trade down.

The reason  is Ballard has been drafting cb based on their length and athletic  potential  instead of how well they played in college. Sometimes  you have to forgo ras scores and just get a guy who can play.

    Solid post.

I'm right here to. I usually feel like I have a period pulse on what Ballard will do. This year while I feel good about certain players, when and where we strike is all over the place.

    Rest of the solid post

I agree, WR/Bowers will be picked within the first two rounds.

I also don't see the big need for Bowers, not that I would be mad about the selection, definitely wouldn't trade up for it. We already have to fill of a room, would have to get rid of 2 of our current top 53 spots.

When it comes to WRs. There is 2 ways I'm looking at it.

    1. Players I see can immediately be #1 immediately, pushing Pittman to #2.

    2. Players that will battle with Pierce at the #2. Will consider Downs as #3 in this reference for the slot.

Both options have good benefits, #1 probably need to trade up or get lucky top 3/4 make it to #15. #2 can trade back and get more capital, or go 2nd round while improving defense with 1st round. Both ways improve depth and is insurance for an injury. Will have that 4th guy that should be able to step into top 3 role if needed.

lot of good post in here, working my way down the line.

The way I see it we probably  adding at least 1 wr,1 cb, s,rb, ol, and possibly  a lb.

Based on what? Honestly, I would like u to give me reasons as to why the fan base should not be concerned bout this secondary.

For one half the secondary  was injured and they are young so growing pains were expected.  Secondly  more talent will be added in the draft. It might not be in the first, but it will be addressed.

Do u ever get there is any sense of urgency with Ballard when he speaks bout the team? I hear a lot of I think they should. He just comes across like a guy who feels that he is safe as long as Irsay is the owner. Smooth talker, I guess, and I tire of the soft ball questions from the media. Your team was like at the bottom of the league and that was against horrendous qb play.  Your 2nd round pick corner couldn't stay healthy. Your other corners are late round picks and one coming back from serious injury. I know it's a presser and he can't give it away but man, you would think his defense is just peachy. I honestly think this D needs so much work both schematically and on the talent side. I do think listening to him, he will trade back. I think that the guys that he really covets will be gone or way too expensive. The  top 3 wrs will be gone as will be Bowers. Mitchell is probably not his guy the Dends will go fast. There might be a guy at say 12 but I think he won't pill the trigger and say give  up a 2nd or 3r rounder.

Ballard  has a plan let's  wait to see what is before we get mad. Also the secondary  will be fine.

I know a lot was said, but I really don’t like when people bring up JJ because he was such a unique case.  He fell for multiple reasons.  Analysts thought he was a product of the system, he shined because of chase, they thought he was just a slot guy.  JJ was such a curious case because he had the production to prove it but I think teams who picked other WRs ahead of him got wrapped up in the detractors.

TBH, the only player I can see in a similar predicament at WR is Adonai Mitchell, other than that, I think what you see is what you get.  Of course, there will be sleepers In every draft, but outside of Adonai, I don’t think there’s a “JJ” at WR In this draft.  Maybe Troy Franklin too.

Alot of people  sleeping  of troy franklin.  He is expected  to go in the second

I’d be loathe to give up next year’s 1st.  I’d do 1st & 2nd this year and 2nd & 3rd next.  From AZ perspective, that’s quite a haul to move down only 11 spots. For a team needing to build, 4 high picked players for 1 = excellent team building move.

Noway  Ballard  does that trade  but if he did he trade next years first for more seconds

Might make more sense to try and move up for Nabers or Odunze, as to do so might be significantly less expensive and arguably, you might be getting a WR that is just as good.

I doubt  he moves up for any of those guys unless they fall to around 9-12. Only way I see us getting  Harrison  is through  free agency  in a few years if he chooses  to leave the team that drafts him.

Looks like a chunk of your post dropped out.   Has averaged (WHAT?) in his career.

Lawrence is on the verge of signing a big extension.   This is right up there with your non-stop Cooper Kupp is a product of the system remark.  Except that the Rams made him a top-10 paid WR.   If he was a system guy they wouldn’t have given him such a big contract.

You paint yourself into corners with some of your arguments.

A lot of people  agree with him. In my opinion Lawrence  isn't  that good compared  to his hype. Stroud already looks like a better qb than him and probably  would have faired even better  last year had dell not gotten hurt. This is not to say Lawrence isn't a good qb he is just not as great as the hype warrants. With the hype he got coming out I expected  Pat Mahomes, Tom Brady, peak Manning type performance. Oddly enough  Mahomes  didn't  have that hype.

There is, but there are not many WR's that have came out like Marvin. He is a generational type WR. I also think Nabors will very good at worse. JMO, maybe I am wrong?

I think odunze, Harrison,  and nabors are all better than pittman that's for sure and there there are several  wrs better than pierce as well as well as many corners that are better  than what we have.
