  1. A 3-4 isn't necessarily the answer, although I would love to have a D with a reputation like some of the teams that have them. Freeney and Mathis would be linebackers in that system and would be wasting their talent.

Cincy runs a 4-3 with similar personnel sizes.

Jacksonville ran one and had a pretty tough one at that a few years ago and I think Tenn did also. Indy could do it, too.

  2. Unfortunately, I don't see a change either. The Offense (and defense) will rest on Manning's or Luck's shoulders as it has with Manning for the past decade. Caldwell will get a free pass due to Manning being out and will return and talk about fundamentals and playing harder. No changes there. Murphy and Christiansen will be back as well.

There will be almost no free agency (with the exception of UDFA's and a bargain basement veteran that no one has heard of).

Someone called me Charlie Brown complaining about the sky falling. Nope, just been a Colts fan long enough to see how Polian does it.

The team needs significant changes. new D scheme, perhaps even a new blocking scheme for the O-Line. I'd like to see what Denver did during their SB wins. They used to be able to make any running back look great. We need some DB's. Perhaps a good FA safety or CB. We need help, as always, on the DT position. I think our linebacking corps is much better than it used to be.

Most of all, there needs to be a coaching change. They need someone, not only who can make those changes, but who can inspire the team to win. Dungy, although soft-spoken with the players, could motivate them to do well for him. Caldwell, although a seemingly nice fellow, doesn't have that gift. Maybe he'd be a great QB coach or, I'm stepping out on a limb here, a good OC.

  3. Dunno, the Colts did Baltimore pretty dirty. I don't blame them at all for holding a grudge, as long as they realize that the reason the team left if because no one was coming to their games anymore.

If a government official told you that they were going to take your property, would you stay in the state? I wouldn't either. It's Irsay's business; he did the right thing.

  4. Ravens are a tough team. Their D can be brutal and Ray Rice can run the ball well. Hopefully our D can keep the pressure while stopping the run. Ideally, we can run the ball and if Dan can play like he did last week, it may not be as bad

I actually don't think it's the Ravens players that are mad at us, it's their office and their fans. It's been almost 30 years. When they refuse to call the team the Indianapolis Colts, which is what they are, it makes them look childish.

  5. If we are going to hire a Bengles assistant, it should be Zimmer. Not strongly advocating for him. Just saying he is by far a better choice than Jay G....

He's done an awesome job with the D in Cincy. I don't think it would be that much of an adjustment for Indy with the exception of a CB and a Safety.

  6. He's a better coordinator, just like Phillips. Phillips has done a great job in Houston and even though he changed them to a 3-4, the change took only adjustments and not a complete overhaul.

Turner might work well as an OC somewhere. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I thought he was an OC at Dallas years ago.

SD must be dealing with FO problems as well. I also think Rivers is injured. Although he can throw a temper tantrum better than my 7 year old, he's a pretty good QB.

  7. I'm a little confused by your comments. #1) there WERE dramatic changes. Fangio was fired because the Colts wanted to switch to a cheaper defense (so they could afford the burgeoning stars on offense long term) and he refused to adjust. Dungy brought in Meeks and the Tampa2. #2) the results were an unprecedented run of success, so I'm not clear on what you regret. The comparatively subtle ebb/flow of defensiveness effectiveness during that period is purely secondary - the vast majority of the time they contained the opposition enough to get the win, which is ultimately all that matters. It isn't working this year largely because the offense is ineffective, so they are on the field WAY too much.

The rest of your thoughts sound a bit like Charlie Brown trying hard to find reasons to feel sorry for himself. You are labeling a promising rookie RB as a fumbler because the Colts are trying to get a point across to him. He's fumbled twice. I doubt very much that they are giving up on him. Yes, Brown did well last game. He has done well in EVERY game this season. You are poo pooing the running game when most fans are applauding a dramatic improvement - made more remarkable by the fact that they are doing it without Peyton to scare the defense.

Yes, the offensive line degraded. Players come and go on a regular basis. They are now rebuilding it, and it appears to be very promising.

I just don't know how to respond to someone who thinks that it's frustrating to be a Colts fan. What would you do if you were a fan of - I don't know - virtually every other team in the league? Compared to the previous 25 years, this recent run has had me doing somersaults of near hysterical joy on a near daily basis. What exactly do you find so difficult?

You can call me Charlie Brown if you like; just don't call me "Homer."

I agree that this last ten years has been great. Due to what? Peyton Manning. The run of success isn't due to Meeks.

The point I'm making is that seldom do we see any real adjustments. We get bargain basement players in UDFA's; every once in a while, you can get some really good ones. That's the exception, not the rule. In addition, there seems to be very little interest in FA, when you can get developed players instead of beginners.

My point about Carter is that I was conceding that he had some fumbles and it seems that they benched him. Of course, I heard that he fumbled again today on a crucial drive.

I'm hoping for radical changes, not adjustments that do not change the outcome. Polian threw the O-line under the bus after the last SB. It took him an extra season to get a decent O-line.

  8. Coyer is gone, just like Meeks and Fangio. Nothing really changed after their departures. The only time I've seen a different D is the playoff run when Indy won the SB (Meeks). In summary, the defense is still bad. We stick to a scheme that isn't as effective as it was for us during the playoff run, the victorious one.

The Offensive Line. Since Tarik...not much and we've even let some key players go. Scott, Lilja.

Still porous. Hopefully with Castonzo and Ijilana (still unproven) back they can be better next season.

The run game. Delone Carter is drafted does well but fumbles. He is either injured or sits. Although Brown did well last week, the run game isn't much different as a whole.

What I'm asking is will improvements be made instead of just talked about? I love the Colts but it's sometimes frustrating as a fan.

Will they get puppets to coach and pay lip service to the press or will noticeable adjustments actually be made to avoid another terrible season?

  9. One with a hole in his back so Polian can fit his hand in there.

I'd see Tressel in the wings right now. I'd rather have him, if they are insistent on him being on staff, as OC than HC. In that case, I'd like Fisher as HC and Del Rio as DC. I know that they picked Murphy but is that permanent or interim? If permanent, I'm concerned.

  10. Well, I'll tell you.

No one said they'd make the playoffs after such a meeting but it is evident that they haven't been playing as a team. Along with defensive/offensive schemes, staffing, coaching, you have intangibles such as attitude. Sometimes when you evaluate your performance and you take this into account in your approach, you may see a difference. Do I believe that they will beat New England? No. Jacksonville, by addressing minor issues, perhaps.
