For the sake of argument, can our personnel switch to a 3-4 or whatever he runs? I doubt we pursue him but I've always liked his imagination.

Yup, the regression talk is horse dooky. JB made the OL's job doubly hard as you mention in both pass pro and run blocking. The OL was graded as holding the longest pocket in the league and still managed to support a 1000 yard RB season.
Glow is the definitely the weak link, but every single OL in the league has a weak leak. A lot of OLs would love to have Glow as the worst lineman on their team, because it would mean the rest are pretty darn good. Sure we can upgrade, but IMO we have far greater needs. I'd upgrade depth at OT (which we have almost none) before OG.
Good post. Where did you get that fact about the Colts holding the pocket. Never heard of that, but interesting.

Gerri Green 6th round pick this year. Glad we're keeping him.
Our 6th round pick? I never heard of any of these guys honestly.

I say we let Vinny suit up for the first game next season. Get his 600th and then retire. No shenanigans. No “well he made that one let’s keep him going” nonsense. Kick one and that’s it.
I'd go for that.
Wish we could do something like that for Andrew as well.

Wow....not one full day into the off season and Ballard is making the right moves already!
-
As NCF said, that loonnnggg off season begins.....
He was asked the question, he gave two short answers. What did you want him to say? They threw the ball to me too much? It's not as if he called a press conference or held court like TO or AB. Frustration at end of season is a good thing. Now they move on to fix things.

I admit I'm at a loss to explain the defense really regressing. Is Moore that valuable? Turay's injury hurt, but he's been gone most of the season and we were doing OK. Somethings been happening lately. Maybe Moore is that valuable. Maybe the rooks hit a wall.
But I'm not ready to blame flus yet though. Some were touting him for a head coaching job just earlier this season.
I also don't buy this "we don't have talent" either. We have a lot of good young kids on D. Just get the dt, let the kids grow up between year 1 and 2 and we'll be fine.
This team is very close to being a contender. We were flat out beat only a couple times. Most of the loses were very winnable but for a couple plays here and there, couple kicks go in, and we would be in the playoffs now.
-
I don't get all the pessimism from some fans either. Crazy injuries, Vinny's out of body year, Luck's retirement, a backup qb, and we were still a play and kick or two from being 10-6, 11-5.
-
Well, the season is pretty much over, and JB is not someone that I feel comfortable with leading us next year. However, he might improve given his injury healing and possible learning curve, so I still don't feel it's #1.
For me it's still DT above all else.
We'll already "draft" Campbell, Turay, maybe Funchess. RB is solid. LBs, secondary pretty good. So unless one of the top qbs, fall, go best player available after the dt.

It's pretty miserable here in Hawaii today. 70 and ☔! Still though... Melekalikima and a hou'oli makahiki hou!
A blessed Day to all! And a pray for a wonderful New Year!

I agree that Rosen hasn't gotten a fair shake. Thrown into the fire with a bad Arizona team as a rook, team gets impatient and falls in love with Murray. Samething in Miami. If Miami would take a 6 or 7, I'd look into it.

I'm just glad Ballard signs our own and makes sure we have the money to do so.

I readily admit I'd like to see what Kelly can do. And honestly, I wouldn't be all that disappointed if JB comes down with a (ahem..) bad cold.
But I still feel you always try to win. And you never know who's going to be good or bad next year.
-
I will say that I like his kicking form. Nice and smooth. Finishes in balance. Haven't had him long enough to know what's inside him though. If he has half the grit of Vinny, he'd be great. We'll see.

Give yourself the best chance to win every game.
IMO, that mind set is more important then any byproduct that may come about by doing something else.

I don't see how we can form any opinion on our WRs given our qbs erratic play. Also with funchess lost all year and pretty much campbell, and lately ty, I wouldn't be comfortable saying with any certainty that we should take a wr early. I'd put that around 4th on positions I'd draft.
-
A great FA signing. The only reason some might not be so excited is that we signed him from the Colts.
-
Wow. Like eerie wow.
But I still like what I saw in the Tennessee game (yes, even with the INT's). For the first time in I don't know how long, he actually looked like an NFL qb going down field. That's why I hope he doesn't back down because of those INT's. Maybe it was a step forward to finally cut loose.
-
The way this team runs the ball (very well) I don't care who they use. Unless you are playing fantasy football that is.

The first blocked kick was so low it didn't look like it was going anywhere.
I could be wrong, but I think that was on AV.
Could be. I don't have the gumption yet to watch it again.

He missed 1 kick today and that was a 55 yarder, so I don't blame him unlike other days. Two were blocked and that's on the line. I've said all season that the entire kicking unit is very suspect. Today showed it again.

JB did some good things today. I hope the INT's don't scare him back into making those throws down field.

Nothing scary to me.....things are headed in the right direction in so many ways.
This appears to me, to be hand wringing of the classic kind. On the way to great things, every step is not always better than the last.
BTW, is it not ironic that a thread entitled "scary", is started by a poster named "boo"?
Honestly, when I saw the title of this post, I thought it was going to be how scary good we are going to be in a shorter period of time than most people think.
We may need an upgrade at qb (I'll give JB the rest of the season), but all we are really lacking is a DT. All the other positions are solid with the potential to be really good. The defense was already pretty good and now we add Willis, Okereke, Ya-Sin, Houston. Turay is back next year. Our oline is still one of the best. Wr is OK, and that's without funchess and Campbell. Running game is outstanding. Maybe te depending on what happens with the FAs.
Sure we could always improve, but I don't see how we supposedly have all these gaping holes.

I disagree with 99% of the op's premise. Other than that, I agree.

I believe Tua will start week one and lead us to the SB. I hope he falls to us.
By the way, this has nothing to do with him coming from Hawaii and me being a fan of his since following him in high school.
