I took it as a positive and if he plays very well the rest of this season  I can still maybe see a contract from us a possibility. They said they would negotiate at the end of the season. So I think it’s all good and JT couldn’t say anything about it as he is still negotiation mood at this point.

If he has a good season (much less one like 2021) imp, the Colts offer him top dollar, and hard feelings or not, he'll be back with this team

IMO, he's simply saying what he can, given that his time here is legally set to end when his contract expires.  He can't really say anything that gives the impression that he's going to be here beyond that.  From a business sense and negotiating the best deal for himself, he has no idea where he'll be.

I think even players like AC would say the generic nice things about the team and the city, but never give an indication that they are willing to commit to the Colts before contract talks start.

Its the players version of Ballard saying, "we'll see how it goes", except JT throws a bone to his teammates and the fans.

Yep. PR gave him a script possibly, but he stuck beautifully to it. You can tell this guy is smart.

  3. About what I expected. He wasn't going to say I hate the Colts and am doing this so I can be paid, or my agent is an * and I'm thinking of firing him. He managed the media perfectly.

Putting my former journalism hat on, the questions were asked in a way that were easy to dodge. You have to ask a question in a way that makes a dodge trickier, or that the dodge itself might give a clue. They should have asked him:

    1. Are you more prone to injuring this ankle again?

    2. Did the docs tell you why it took so long to heal?

    3. Could you see yourself playing for another team next year?

    4. Could you see yourself playing for the Colts next year?

    5. Have you spoken to Chris or Jim in the past week or two?

Still, he wasn't sullen or grouchy. He seemed genuinely excited. I took that as a positive.

My comments in this thread are in context relative to Stroud.  In college, Stroud was a thrower, and it appears HOU is not bashful to use him that way.

AR was not really a thrower in college....we all know it wasn't NFL quality.  SS hasn't used him as a thrower, so in the context of what I think it takes to be a competent and then a very good NFL QB, AR hasn't provided much outside of one early drive.

We can make assumptions about what he's reading and what he could be doing, but he's not performing like Stroud in the passing game (after three games. LOL).

Yes, you scheme around what your players can do now. Who knows what it will look like later, but if Steichen was trying to use AR like Stroud today, I think it would hamper his progress and wouldn't utilize what he does well now.

  5. Iirc, the majority of this board was hoping Stroud would fall to us and also that AR was the least favored one, even below Levis.

I would still pick Stroud today and my magic ball still favors him to be the better QB when all is said and done.

But AR is showing signs that he could be a really good one as well and I'm feeling much better about him today then when we picked him.

Bowen always says he’s no USC pretty boy WR.  The guy is tough as nails.

But he needs to get a helmet strap that works.  Besides getting is hat torn off today, that chin strap ends up by the face mask on every catch.

Lol. I was noticing that as well!

Pierce is the new Granson.    Not liked or appreciated and constantly disrespected by this community.

It astounds me how few posters here know what a good rookie season Pierce had.  He might as well be in the Witness Protection Program.

Last year, Pierce had 41 catches for 594 yards.  A 14.5 average per catch.   Numbers Pittman has never come close to.   And he was a rookie.   This year, he’s getting the red headed step child treatment that Granson got last year and the first 6 months of this of this year.

Pierce should be fine.   Pierce should get better, unless this community thinks Reggie Wayne can’t coach?   It’s a long season and I expect more opportunities for him.

People here have been telling me Pierce had a disappointing training camp.   Except Stephen Holder, who is with the team every day says the opposite.  That he had a good training camp.   Funny how falsehoods get latched on to and become accepted wisdom around here.   Sigh….

Strange how it seems every year, fans need someone to beat up on. And after two whole games, it seems this year's selection is Pierce. Too bad the Oline is playing well. One of them would have probably edged him out.

Downs is also getting the opportunity in the slot. He beat out McKenzie. Pierce is the no2. The TEs are doing very little. The only real competition for receptions is Pittman. It's the same old same old every year with the WRs.

Stafford is a mid-tier QB now. Puka is elevating Stafford, as well as Tutu Atwell, who also looks good. Otherwise it'd be Jefferson and Showerenk, who are doing terrible early. I'm tired of the excuses, I just want to see some of these draft picks hit now that we have Richardson.

If Pierce is still getting so few looks as the season goes on, I'll be right there with you. But until AR grows, the guy who's supposed to get his plays more down the field won't get as much of an opportunity as guys who run short crosses and slants.

    Hey, CB….

Woods should be good.   He was primarily a blocker in his three years at Okla State.   He only became more a receiver in his one year with Virginia.

Ogletree should be more of a receiver, he’s a former college WR.   But he’s put on a lot of really good weight.   He’s listed at 6’5” and 260, but the scouts who rave about him describe him as huge and “rocked up”.   So his physical profile says he should be ok as a blocker if he wants to be.   By the way, Ogletree is listed as a blocking TE (Y) on the depth chart.

Granson and Mallory,  as you noted, are smaller and are more the receiving types.

Wow, did not know that about Woods or Ogeltree. Good to know.

  10. WR is the hardest position to evaluate as a fan because we only see them taking off for the LOS. Can anyone say objectively that they aren't open?

To me this is more on AR or Steichen. Pierce is our supposed big play WR. As such, it's going to be harder for him to get big numbers with such an inexperienced QB.

If the Colts can’t find a way to keep all five then I think MAC is the odd man out.   I think the Colts would either try to trade him or release him if need be.   But I think we’re at least two more weeks from that decision.

NCF, how proficient are the others in blocking? They all seem more the pass catcher types.

Since we only have 4 WR on the roster I bet we keep all five. Winfree was already called up twice so not sure what will happen with him. But Mallory and Granson are basically WR. I’d Taylor plays in a couple weeks room will have to be made for him too. So it could get interesting.

They could decide to just keep woods on IR the whole season too.

Except for the keeping Woods on season IR, I agree with the rest of your post. Line those capable as a WR. Like Woods.

He looked pretty good passing today actually. He got hit on a fluke play where had he just ran through the play he would not of been touched. Something he will learn.

Yep. I don't know what he was thinking, but it seemed like he sort of relaxed a bit as he was about to cross the goal line. Like he expected the defender to pull up possibly. Bet he never does that again.

  14. Depends on what a playmaker is. If you mean someone you'd have to scheme for, I'd say no one (except AR hopefully). But we have a lot of really good players (very underrated by the national media imo). All the WRs and TEs can be really good. Most interested in Woods.

There's no way he can do well in this league. He is a third round pick and those guys are only aloud to be quality depth. If he wanted to start, then he should of been picked in the first round. We will draft our LT of the future next year with our first rounder.

Glad you added *sarcasm*.  I had my fingers itching to go! 😄

I'd be ok with Freeland starting and taking his lumps, IF they move Smith inside.  This is gonna be a learning year for QB, CBs, might as well add RT.  I'm glad Raimann is looking good!  I have high hopes for him

AR needs to grow and develop. It will be hard enough with a solid Oline much less one with a RT that's learning himself. Rainmann was solid from the end of last year and looks like he's continued that. Good to see.
