  1. I'm liking what I'm seeing out of Ballard. He seems rock solid, and he doesn't shy away or give up on the run when he encounters the oposition. He seems huge for his position (although he really isn't. I've come to the conclusion that it's because of how he plays--fearless). Legs the size of tree trunks--they (IMO) could rival MJD's.

Well anyways, you get the idea. I like the guy, and see a bright future ahead.

Thoughts from the rest of the Colts faithful?

  2. I love your new Edgerrin James quote BTW. Sweet! .

I forgot to say earlier that when I heard the Edge was going into the Ring of Honor I knew I had to highlight him for a week or so. I loved watching good ole #32 run the ball in the blue and white. A well deserved induction in my humble opinion. :)

  3. You'll have to pardon me, perhaps I am confused, but I dont remember Peyton ever playing against Rivers. What I do remember is Peyton and company playing against the Chargers and Co. And in those wins/losses, that was a result of team play.. correct me if I am wrong.

you get a cookie for your profound wisdom

"You are also right that he has never had to face The General before...wonder what Phillip will do when he is actually playing greatness".. ... ...

Thats what was stated in that sentence, that Peyton played Rivers I was just stating what Mannings record was against Philip Rivers and the rest of the Chargers.

Easy gentlemen, I made a mistake. I had a lapse in brain function and forgot that Gavin is correct in stating that the Chargers and the Colts have played each other since Rivers became a starter. No sense in snipping at each other about it. Besides, when I stated about Rivers and Peyton not having (but actually have) met on the field, of course everyone knows that the rest of both teams where there and had an effect on the outcome. Nothing to start an agrument about.

The main point of my post was that Rivers indeed could be an excellent QB if he stopped horsing around and focused on his abilities and allowed himself to excel. The particular sentence that is being tossed around is actually not the most important of my post, so please excuse my error and let's move on. Thanks so much!

  4. Preach it from the rooftops CP11!!! San Diego is the only real hiccup in that AFC West Division. The Raiders keep killing themselves with penalties every single year. Kansas City does not have a franchise QB in Matt Cassel. Phillip Rivers does scare me though. He is a very dangerous and highly capable QB IMO. But, Philip has not had Yoda in his division ever before either.

That division comes down to San Diego and Denver and the pass rushing defense on both sides and their ability to rattle and disrupt Manning and Rivers plain and simple.

    Thanks buddy :)

IMO you are right on about Rivers. I've always said if he would grow up and stop trying to be the loud mouth playboy and actually focus on playing football that Rivers could and would be dangerous to any team in his way. He has tons of talent and he has leadership abilities...dude just needs to grow up a bit. You are also right that he has never had to face The General before...wonder what Phillip will do when he is actually playing greatness... ... ...

Matt Cassel is a good QB, but I'm with Gavin that I wouldn't count the Cheifs out of the race...but I don't expect them to beat PM and the Broncos though.

  5. PM works for me. Or The General or GOAT or the master and Yoda of football...I could keep going but do I need to? ;)

I like that we have some Broncos fans on here sharing their excitement about Peyton, and interacting with those of us that have the pleasure of being his fans for 13 years. Hopefully they will continue to share as the season begins and progresses. You can bet a lot of us Colts fans will be keeping a close eye on our MAN this season :)

  6. Amen CP11 Amen. "If home is where the heart is," then home will always be INDY for Peyton. Followed by Tennessee and Louisiana as a close tie for 2nd place IMO.

I wanted to like so many of the posts you have above here, but I have reached my quota and it won't let me--so know that I like all that you've said buddy!

I like to believe the same as you, that Indiana would be his first choice to come back to, but time will tell. There is a possibility that he will want to go back to Louisiana...if I'm honest and set my hopes and bias aside I would say that #1 is tied btwn Indiana and Louisiana with #2 going to Tennessee. That being said, I still believe that when he retires from playing he will end up back with the Colts either in the FO or as HC. Time will tell, but Peyton loves football too much for me to believe he will just be done with it when he retires...your thoughts buddy?

  7. I really understand that. But maybe it's helpful to think this way: he is now appreciated by more people. I tell you, Denver fans are really enjoying Peyton. I get sympathetic joy out of that, not just my own joy. More people get to see what an awesome player/person he is than before. It's good for everyone.

Very true BayArea. More people finally can appreciate Peyton for the football genius he is. (But I'm still gonna think of him as ours--the Colts ;) )

I also think this is an important thing for him--playing for another team. I say that because there are those skeptics and critics that say he wasn't as good as everyone says he is. He only won 1 SB (let's not get into the fact that this ticks me off--a great QB is a great QB no matter the # of SB wins--it takes a TEAM to win a SB, not just one man, but that's another soap box for another time), it was his coaching staff, yadi yadi yada. Playing for the Broncos will cement his greatness for all (IMO). He will succeed and do well, and honestly I hope above hope that he gets another SB win.

  8. Three generations in my living room watching the "MAN" this afternoon. Me, my son, and grandson. My grandson (who is 9) says to me "Gram, I still can't get used to him not being in a Colts Uniform" I know, Tanner, me neither. :(

It was bittersweet but FUN to watch him today.

Definitely bittersweet to see our man in a different uniform. Hits me hard everytime, but the thing that gets me through (and might help Tanner) is to remember that he's just on loan to the Broncos for a while cause he's forever ours :)

  9. Oh my god, you are so firing me up! LOL.

I feel like Elway did it with phenomenal athleticism but Peyton will do it with his mind. I'm oversimplifying of course.

I'm glad you were able to enjoy Elway. Sadly, I took him for granted. I didn't know better back then.

haha!! You should be fired up ;)

  10. Yeah, it's been such a long time since Elway. So nice to see someone I trust fully at the helm. We've had a couple of decent ones in the middle (Plummer and Cutler) that I could have lived with, but this is the first time we get to see a true master at work in my recent memory, and having seen some real horribleness last year, I'm relieved and stoked.

I'm sure you know this, but hang on to your hat because you're in for a treat :) Peyton at the helm is just awesome to watch!

I've said it on here before, but I'm gonna say it again. John Elway is the reason that I fell in love with the NFL. He's the reason I am an avid fan of the sport altogether. As a 8,9,10 yr old kid I sat and watched him play on Sundays. And I will never forget when he won his first SB. Now THAT was a moment! ...anyways, I digress! It's been a while since you've had greatness at your helm, and while I like Elway (and he is still one of my favs), you haven't seen the likes of Peyton. I've never seen anyone that is such a student of the game. Both great QBs, just different styles of play and different kinds of greatness.

Gear up, you quite possibly could have a very important trophy in your future... :)

  11. Thanks for sharing! No surprises to us Colts fans though. This is who he is--he expects perfection from himself and therefore expects nothing less from those around him. Besides that he is a great leaders--and to me, a great leader 1) leads by example and 2) causes those around him to become better.

Here's to hoping he has a great season this year (I wish the same for Jeff Saturday btw)...I expect someday to see Peyton (and Jeff) back where they belong--somewhere in Colts Nation.

  12. Look's like Peyton's arm is still attached. He looks good

This seriously had me laughing Fish. Thanks! I needed that!

And as far as Bronco training camp, now the Denver O is going to see just what makes Peyton an awesome QB and leader. He's not called the field general for no reason!

  13. Not surprising at all, it just adds to the list of reasons why I like Peyton Manning. I too hope he one day returns to Indianapolis because he is such a positive addition to any community. There are other atheletes out there that are compassionate, caring, and giving, but Peyton always goes above and beyond what is expected...and many times he does things when they are not expected (this is a perfect case). I agree that this seems to be a team gesture so like Gavin I salute the Bronco team. (I know that our beloved Colts would reach out to fellow Indiana residents in a terrible time as well.)

Here's to the GOAT and everything that he does that is above and beyond. A role model for many--that's Peyton Manning.

  14. Summer is here, football is like a distant friend who is on vacation. This board is loaded with thread after thread of blah vs blah, blah is better than blah, and should we should try to get blah now that he is released?

Here are 10 things that are on my mind regarding this team. (in no order of importance)

    1) We will be drafting somewhere between the #1 and #10 next season. I know that high hopes are everyone's right, and I am not trying to wet any cornflakes. Just saying that the perfect storm of retooling and zero injuries is just a little to rare to count on.

    ... ... ... ...

    10) I think that the injury bug that has plagued us will lessen with the focus on weight room dominance. I have always felt that the Colts had too many injuries and I think this is the year where we see some improvement.

Good thread. I like your 10 things you think you think. (I didn't re-post all of them to save space.)

To highlight a few things you said that absolutely agree with 100%:

    3) Andrew Luck may have games where he throws more picks than TD's. Fact is, no matter how NFL ready he is, he will be facing corners who are experts at baiting with their eyes, jumping the route, and most have world class speed compared to the college game. In addition, timing on routes will be a work in progress and that spells more INT's than most fans would want.

I couldn't agree with this more. It's important for people to remember that while Andrew will be a great NFL QB, he is going to have rough games--everyone does esp in their rookie seasons.

    5) Reggie Wayne staying here is a very big deal. He would have elevated his numbers by signing on with a team that had a legit #1, but he choose to be here. Very big deal.

HUGE DEAL! The respect I have for Reggie is only magnified 10 fold for his decision to stay with us. So many other players woulda waved goodbye and not look back. Not Reggie, he stuck with us. He sees the opportunity here and the future and what is being built and wants to help provide a solid foudation. Nope, not many like Reggie out here. For him I would truly like to SHOCK THE WORLD this season. Here's to hoping that happens!

    6) Cory Redding was the best offseason signing for this team. He is the perfect player, at the right price, with the right level of respect and experience, for the retooling of this D-line. If he stays healthy (this is really important to the success of this retooling defense), the line will grow as the season progresses and within a few of years, we might even move beyond his services. Right now, he is very important. Nice guy too.

YES! YES! YES! I was so excited when we signed Redding I couldn't stand it. There were many nay sayers saying he was nothing and a waste of a pick up, but I say the value he brings in leadership and the fact that he is familiar with Pagano and the defense we will run is something that is of great value. I am glad to have him in a Colts uniform. Plus, Pagano saw something in him worth bringing to Indy. (Same goes for Tom Z regarding the last stmt.)

    8) I think this season will mark the beginning of the Colts getting back to running the ball.

    AMEN! HALLELUJIAH!! WHOO HOO!!!!!!!

    9) Fleener is going to be a monster after the catch. I have watched many of his highlights and this guy gets his hips turned and his shoulders squared after the catch at a speed necessary to succeed in the NFL. He is going to be a load. I see him catching the 10' high frozen rope in the back of the endzone with ease.

Agreed. Given just a bit of time and Fleener WILL be THE top TE in the league (including better than Gronk).

Again, excellent thread and thanks for sharing!

  15. So, I don't expect Luck to be a Manning clone. I don't expect him to play exactly like Manning, I don't expect him to lead like Manning, but I DO expect him to win like Manning. Andrew Luck is his own person, but I will not let him off the hook and not expect him to win.

(And might I say the injustice that we did to Peyton by not providing him with an all around high caliber team that would help get over those playoff humps to Lombardi success. Gotta have the complete package to get the desired results.)

  16. I think we can all agree that this bounty did go on. I have said it before and I will say it again, Goodell and the NFL are not required to be an open book and show all their evidence. Period. End of story.

The fact that a former US attorney was in on this investigation really is enough for me, and also the fact that this investigation took quite an extensive amount of time tells me that due diligence was given before "judgement" came down.

Furthermore, food for thought here, what if the source(s) that Goodell refers to is a quite reliable source that saw these transactions transpire. In the court of law if you have an eye witness they are valued and their word is taken as truth under oath, right? So, I still stick by that I believe the investigation and it's findings are solid.

And, like southwest has said, these players that have been punished (and in fact the whole Saints organization) had plenty of time to not only stop what they were doing but fess up and admit their wrongs. They did neither. Now, they have to face the consequences. The suspended players where given a chance by Goodell (and actually encouraged) to come talk to him about it all and that the sentences would be reduced. None of them did that. If you were completely innocent wouldn't you be screaming it from the hilltops and pounding down the door of your punisher? I would. If given the chance to fight for my innocence I would take it immediately. That the players in question have not speaks volumes to me.

  17. Innocent till proven guilty is how things "should" be, but they aren't. We all know that appearance is reality. The fact that this is a veteran NFL linebacker means that this is also a grown man who should know the difference between right and wrong. When asked to do something that he knows isn't right, that sense of right and wrong should take over, even against the thought of monetary reward for doing the wrong thing. I've heard people say things like "It's not like these guys did what Michael Vick did". While morally reprehensible and his prison term was warranted, his crime had nothing to do with football. What these other guys have done directly affects football.

I agree with your post gibson, especially the bolded parts. To expound upon the first part, it the responsibility of any adult to know the difference between right and wrong and to do the right thing...if only all adults were responsible and did the right thing huh?

  18. I have a real problem with this recent statement from the NFL Commissioner concerning alleged former Saints bounty gate participant Anthony Hargrove. See the link below:

    http://tracking.si.c...ove-suspension/

Specifically, Mr. Goodell's exact words, which don't sound at all impartial, objective, or interested in due process and equal justice for all.

“Instead, I am prepared to assume -— as he apparently stated publicly -— that he did not make it. But that statement is relevant because, regardless of which player said it, it corroborates other evidence that there was an incentive in place for knocking Mr. Favre out of the game and that the members of the Saints defense, including Mr. Hargrove, were well aware of that fact.”

Does that sound fair and balanced to you? So much for innocent until proven guilty Mr. Goodell. This isn't a witch hunt. You can't just assume Anthony Hargrove said "where's my money?" You have to prove it. This is a criminal case not a civil one.

The financial ledger and book keeping by former DC Gregg Williams still verifies that bounties were indeed paid out, but the NFL Commissioner can't just tag any player or bystander in the near vicinity guilty of accepting a pay for injury scheme without absolute proof. That means independent verification by witnesses who were directly onsite that NFL lawyers flipped as confidential informants etc. etc. This recent statement casts Goodell in a negative light in my mind.

I don't like this statement either my friend. Goodell could have been a bit more suave and diplomatic about what he was trying to say which I believe is this: There is enough evidence against Anthony Hargrove other than this alleged statement caught on tape.

Now, granted this is not what the commish said, this is just me reading between the lines. Up until this statement I have been impressed with how Goodell was handling this situation. This is a major slip...I hope that Goodell isn't getting too cocky.

I too would like to see the evidence the NFL has against the Saints and these players, but just like court cases that become popular (like the OJ trial and the Casey Anthony trial) no one is required to let me (the general public) know or see all the proof. SO, while I would like to see it, I will not demand to see it.

  19. Chapman and Fugger as far as rookies. Chapman is a beast and I have no doubt in my mind that he will tear things up for us. I like what little I've seen out of Fugger on tape, and I think he doesn't get the credit he deserves. If he works hard and plays ball like he should he can correct that.

[i could say Andrew Luck, Colby Fleener, Griff Whalen as well (heck the whole rookie class!) but I will refrain. It all comes from the hope of the team I want to see. So for the rookies I will just stick to Chapman and Fugger.]

As far as FA or those that still haven't had ample time to prove themselves (IMO only): Castonzo, Statele, and Justice. Can we say O-line anyone??? These guys have a very bright future in my humble opinion.

I'm also going to add Redding to my list.(Cory may be a tad more proven to some, but to me he hasn't yet had a solid chance). I look forward to seeing what Cory can do. He should bring leadership and knowledge to our locker room due to his experience at Baltimore and the fact that most of our team is young enough that he has more years under his belt than them Plus, if you all know me then you know I've been excited about Redding from the get go.
