  1. I've read that while the 49ers have an excellent run game, they don't protect very well. Some feel that Smith (who was sacked a lot) was even able to avoid some sacks that Peyton wouldn't have. I'm not sure which of the three teams have the best o-line. I've heard negative things about all of them. While the Titans would be my third choice on general principles, at least they've already taken steps to improve theirs. I'm not sure what to think at this point. And like others have said, I've detested Moss for many years. You have to wonder how he would react to Peyton taking control of the offense, or to Harbaugh's control of the team. Based on his history, he may bend to the system for awhile if it suits him, but it never lasts long. He is all about Moss (and nowhere near the receiver that he used to be). Can you imagine what that team will be like with Moss and Smith? By game three he will be opening pouting and complaining because the QB can't get him the ball enough, or they are running too much. By game 9 he may stop trying all-together. At least with Peyton he'll have sufficient respect to concentrate for a little while longer, but the 49ers are taking a gamble with their chemistry with that move.

For Peyton, any O-line is an upgrade from the Colts. If Alex can have a year the way he did last year with that O-line, Peyton will too.

Yep, as far as Moss is concerned, i hope Peyton can get him focussed ( again if Peyton chooses 49ers ).

  2. No idea on 49er's , wish i did , wish decision made so whomever may grab whoever FA is left to help team, Mayock says broncios if get Peyton should start by giving away the first pick & taking the tendered Mike Wallace speedster for peytons deep threat & then go all out to build offense & team

Yep, Wallace is a must if he goes to Broncos. Probably will tag Clark in as well for familiarity.

If he goes to 49ers, i dont know about their center, but for smooth transition they may take Saturday with him.

Peyton and Saturday to 49ers, that team has a legitimate shot at 19-0

  3. I thought of a highly improbable outcome:

    Peyton goes to the 49ers.

Then the 49ers trade Peyton to the Colts for its #1 overall pick to get Luck reunited with Harbaugh, and Peyton reunited with the Colts.

With the current 49ers team, Luck would love that. Not sure if Peyton would.

  4. If he goes to the 49ers, all the pressure is on Peyton, IMO. If he cannot win the SB with such a supporting cast, it will cement his legacy as a playoff underachiever. Just saying :) (ducks, hides and runs.... :))

Pressure will be on Peyton for sure with the supporting cast this time. With that defense and special teams ( except those 2 fumbles its really a good ST ), they really should go all the way.

Manning to Gore, Davis, Moss, Crabtree. This looks scary on paper.

  5. I wonder if the opportunity in San Francisco is enough to override his desire to leave Eli's Super Bowl runs unhindered...

    Yep.

Not for Eli, this is an easy decision for Peyton.

We can talk all we want about Titans offering ownership, Elway giving him freedom but they arent SB ready like 49ers.

I feel for Peyton. Its really a tough decision for him. One side, he wants to win the SB so bad. Other side, he loves his little brother and dont want to be the reason to be on his way.

  6. Secondly we don't know if Irsay kicked him out, maybe Irsay told him the plan for the team and pm thought it was best to part ways.

Either you are kidding or you are really that naive.

Irsay started firing everybody around Peyton without even communicating a word to him. If he wanted Peyton or even had a bit of interest in him, he would have atleast spoke to him. The second Irsay realized he has to number 1 pick, he turned into a Chameleon.

  7. This move will not sit well with me at all. I have much lOve and respect for pm but if he does indeed go to the titans "for life" it will in my opinion tarnish his legacy in Indy. To me it would be a major slap in the face to leave Indy then go to the titans and plan on retiring a Titan and being involved in their front office after retirement. Am I the only one who feels this way
First your team releases him and now the fans expect him not to sign in own division. Thought slavery ended a while ago. Peyton is a free man. He can do whatever he wants. Dont twist it and turn the blame on him. He is just trying to find a job which suits him and his family. As simple as that.
  8. I think it's insulting Peyton is even entertaining the Titans offer. Peyton has plenty of other teams he could join. Why go out of his way to inconvenience his former fan-base?
Lets not twist this. His decision has nothing to do with Fan Base. What did Fan base do when he said he wants to play for Colts other than venting in this forum?.
  9. I have been a Colt fan for 14 years and followed this forum for years but never posted here before now. Here is a little background. I grew up a fan of Archie and followed Peyton at Tenn and was devastated when he didn't win the Heisman, which I thought he deserved. I pull for Eli and am thrilled at his success. At the time the Colts drafted Peyton I was a Falcon fan (closest team to me) and I immediately became a Colt fan and I will remain one unless Colt fans turn on him. I know his release was just business, but it hurt me because it hurt Peyton - my children have grown up looking up to him - he is just a great role model and athlete!!!

For 14 years Peyton carried this team; he made mediocre talent look great; everyone in NFL says he is top 5 of all time; he was his biggest critic when they lost any game; he took responsibility for losing; he never talked badly about his fellow teammates; he gave back to your city ten-fold; he never once humiliated you or your city (and that is getting rare these days); his work ethic is touted by everyone in the NFL as the best; AND his HEART clearly belongs to the Colts and to Indianapolis as evidenced by his fairwell speech (which I still can't watch without crying). Peyton handled his release, as he did his entire career with the Colts, with class - and who did he thank? He thanked all of you for giving him the honor of being your quarterback!!! What does he get in return?

Since last week, I have been reading all the posts on all these threads and I just had to sign up and give my perspective from someone who is not a "True Colt Fan". I know you don't care what I think, but I just have to get it off my chest! Really, go through and read all the comments since last week - all I can say is I am disappointed and amazed. I am having a difficult time reading the comments from all the "True Colt Fans" on this forum about where Peyton should and shouldn't go; how YOU will not support him if he goes to a certain team, how he was paid so much money for not doing anything last year; how it is time for him to retire, blah, blah, blah - seriously go back and read some of this garbage!

REALLY, if that is what it means to be a "True Colt Fan" then I am glad I do not fall into that category! Peyton never missed a game; played hurt, and never complained. He wanted to be a Colt but in the end his choice was either to retire or be released. I think all of you know that he is the master of preparation and if he believes he can play then that is good enough for me and it should be good enough for you! EVERYONE who is a Colts fan should be cheering him every time he takes the field, regardless of the team or whether he wins or loses. You should cheer the fact that he loves his job (how many of you can say that?); is still displaying that awesome work ethic (first one to get to work and last to leave - how many of you can say that?); still being a great role model!

Peyton wants another ring and all Colts fans or Manning fans should be praying he gets his chance with whatever team he chooses. The feeling of the Colts fans should not be in the picture - as many have posted on here - he is no longer your quarterback! The Texans are obviously his best chance at another Super Bowl if they even give him an offer. Some of you are even comparing that possible move to Bret Farve - REALLY??? Please people - that is such a stretch!!! Peyton isn't after limelight and you all know it! He is just a 36 yr-old who is still chasing his dreams and this fan is just shocked so many of you want to extinguish it!

Do not put strings on Peyton's future. He certainly does not deserve that from any Colt fan - true or otherwise. He knows the risks - he knows the pressure that will be on him to perform and he is ready to take that risk. Has he not at least earned that much respect from Colt fans after 14 years???

Best post i read by far.

  10. PM's contributions to the community came from his salary and bonuses that the Colts paid him for QB services rendered. Last season, he did not render any QB service on the field. I think $26.4MM is pretty steep to be a mascot, or a community contributor. Maybe you feel differently?

And Colts got money from who?.

How did Colts market value increased by 230 million dollars in the last 14 yrs?. I bet its not a mascot or a community contributor. May be i think logically and state the facts?.

  11. The Colts signed the 5 year/$90MM contract with PM, hoping the PM would play. This was before the PM's major surgery that prevented him from playing at all in 2011 season. They paid the $26.4MM last year because they were contractually obligated to do so. Believe me, if the Colts knew that PM could not play at all in 2011, they would have structured the contract differently, or delayed the signing of that contract to start in 2012.

The Colts could easily go 2-14 if they did not sign that PM contract. If they did not sign the PM contract, PM was not going to play. Same result. Therefore it is incorrect to think that the contractual payment of $26.4MM bought us a 2-14 record and the #1 overall draft pick.

I didnt want to go over this again but one last try.

Point is 26 millions paid to Manning is never for nothing. Yes, he didnt play last year but his contributions even without playing and other highlights i mentioned is massive.

We cant say paid to Peyton for nothing.

  12. It does matter, your answer suggested that the $26.4MM was paid for the #1 overall pick. I showed you that was not the case. If the Colts had not paid the money, the team would still be 2-14, and have the #1 overall pick.

The previous poster suggested that the $26.4MM was paid to PM, and it produced nothing. I am inclined to agree, since PM did not play one single down last season.

Why did Colts pay 26 million then?. No one stopped Irsay from cutting him last year?. Oh thats right, there was a hope of saving the team later and keeping the fan base and other teams.

And my answer didnt suggest that. You can flip flop this as much as you want, Colts were 2-14 last year coz of one guy - Peyton.

And the fact that you agree to the poster saying Peyton was paid for nothing, conveniently ignoring how much he generated to the Colts and others. No point discussing this further.

  13. If the Colts did not sign the contract with PM, and did not pay the $26.4MM last year, wouldn't the Colts still be 2-14, and get the #1 overall pick?

    Doesnt matter.

Point of discussion is, it was said "Irsay Paid 26 for nothing".

My answer is for the bold character.

  14. eh. Irsay paid payton 26 million last year for nothing. he didnt owe him anything more.

    For nothing?.

Stop saying that. Apply some common sense.

Manning by not playing helped Colts draft No 1 Pick. So you have to thank him in a way.

Most importantly, any team who needs a QB will pay 26 million guaranteed money to get Andrew Luck.

In otherwords, with that 26 millions we got Andrew Luck.

On the owing part, Irsay can never repay what Manning did to Colts ( 230 millions more market value from 1998 to now ). Not even including what he did to the city ( Stadium, hotels, hospitals, intangibles, morale of people etc ).

Get your facts before throwing random statements.
