  1. Is it possible for the Colts to offer Mack a 10 year 150M$ contract, that paid him like 8M, 8M, 8M, 8M, 14M,18M,20M, 22M, 22M, 22M=150M Give him say 20M guaranteed over the 1st 3 years, so he could be cut after 3 or 4 years with no cap hit, but, make it known to him, that after he signs, he would restructure his deal to more like 5 year/45M$ with 25M guaranteed.

I don't know if that would work, or if Cleveland would still sign that with the hope to restructure as well. Just an idea.

Cleveland could still match that though. This is my point, there really isn't a way for his agent to construct a deal with us that Cleveland couldn't match so I don't see why his agent would say something like that.

  2. If the Colts think as little of Holmes as they do of the beat writers, then he'll be out of the league next time they sneeze. The beat writers could be right....like a stopped clock.

Yeah, I don't know if they're right or not. They don't seem to be the smartest group of writers around but all of them seem to think the same thing about Holmes.

  3. Venturi is our former DC from 1991-1993 under Ron Meyer and Ted Marchibroda. He has done some local game day writing for the Indianapolis Star. He is a pretty straight shooter.

Well if he WAS decent at center, I would have thought he MIGHT get a look. Maybe he has bulked up. Some said his strength was suspect.....

Go to camp and play Khaled!

I thought Venturi used to be a coach but the early 90's was a long time ago. I've had way to many things going on since then. LOL!!!

  4. I personally hope Holmes is ready. Would love to see the team build with a youngster. We just do not know as fans...he played well at guard one or two snaps :)

I keep hearing from the Colts beat writers (Chappell,Mike Wells, Phillip B. Wilson and Kravitz) that the team doesn't think much of Holmes. How true that is, I don't know, but I've heard each one of them say it. Theres another guy, Venturi...I think his name is, also said Holmes wasn't what they thought he could be. This sentiment has to be coming from somewhere so I don't know exactly what to think.

  5. Mathis is signed thru 2015 and will be 35 at free agency. Maybe that is what you meant, but we won't have any trouble hanging onto him year to year after that if he doesn't retire.

Yeah I was going off what the other guy said that Mathis was a FA after next season. This makes my point even more valid. No way does Mathis re-sign for another 3 yrs. At 35 yrs. Old.

  6. Assumptions really aren't all that smart to make

What assumption? You don't think they realized holding onto Freeney was a huge mistake? Or are you talking about what I said about Mathis? That wasn't an assumption either. It more or less is common sense. 34 yr. old edge rushers aren't going to get long term deals or big money. We possibly could re-sign him if he would take a 1 yr. deal for decent but not big money.

  7. Huh? Why?

He's going to be 34 yrs. old. He's going to be hard pressed to find many teams(including the Colts) to give him anymore than a 1 or 2 yr. deal. I know we haven't seen it yet, but eventually age is gonna catch up with him and it will be much sooner than later. The question is...do the Colts want him around and paying him good money when age catches up with him? I'm guessing...probably not!

  8. We have to focus on the center spot. Anybody that thinks otherwise must have had a stroke since the season ended and forgot just how brutally terrible we were on the interior O-line. Safety can easily be filled through the draft or a mid tier FA. With our front 7 improving, that alone will help the secondary.

  9. Something seem's awful fishy in Denver. They sure do keep finding a way to keep signing high dollar FA's and never seem to run out of money. I heard several radio guy's today also questioning where this money keeps coming from and how they are able to sign these high priced FA's every offseason.

  10. Freeman and Mathis are free agents next year, and the stellar 2012 draft class will be free agents the year after that, so I feel it would be wise to make sure we aren't going to be low on cap when we need to pay those players.

The cap raised 10 million dollars this yr. and is expected to go up 15 more million next season and be over 160 million by 2016. Money shouldn't be a problem when its time to re-up some of our guys. Highly unlikely Mathis will be re-signed next yr. anyway.

  11. I think we can get Byrd with a C

I doubt it. Byrd at 9-10 mil per yr. and a good center for 4-5 per yr. don't really leave much of anything to fill out the rest of the roster and sign draft picks. Plus you always need to leave some available for emergency situations. I said hell no to the Decker idea. Do not need and would be an absolute waste of resources.

  14. Where is everyone getting that RJF was bad?? He was getting better and better til his injury.

They don't know what they're talking about or they just repeat what some others say because they think it makes them sound smart.

  15. Are you saying that Redding had a bad season last year? Because if you are, I completely disagree.

No, not a bad yr., but the difference from 2012 to 2013 was noticeabley worse. Plus he's getting to the age where he needs less reps to still be effective. I just think that it's becoming abundantly clear that age is catching up with him quickly.

  16. Unless you're talking about after the 2014 season, it will be Redding and Jones. RJF won't play over Redding.

Yes he will! Redding's play significantly dropped off last yr. While RJF got better and better as the yr. went on.

  17. Maybe he gets after an under the radar type of guy to do the job??  IDK I'm wondering about center and free safety, because we don't have anyone on the team that I feel we could depend on to start there.

Also I'm wondering if we are signing a WR or not.  A lot of receivers have been linked to us and said they've had interest.  But havn't heard about any planned visits yet.

Also havn't heard about any big receiver signings anyplace.

I think if we do sign a center and a safety, WR will pretty much be out of the question unless it's just #3 or #4 type guy that will come very cheap. I'm with you that there isn't anybody on the roster at the center or FS positions that I would be comfortable with right now. They have to be addressed and especially the center spot through free agency.
