I think the OP might be suggesting without progress AC doesn't qualify as a solid LT but I may be wrong.
Castanzo is past solid, he's good. He may not be great and may never be elite, but for those that think he's bad, they need to learn a little more.
-
A solid LT is 10 times more important than a receiver.
-
Yeah you pay him, but do you give him elite level money when he's not elite? I don't think Castonzo has a real argument for $10m/year right now.
For the record, when I said 8-10 mil. The 10 mil. depends very much on how he keeps progressing this yr.. Right now, I would give Castanzo 8 mil. A yr. and have no issue with it. If he progresses more this season, he very well could earn himself a 10 mil. dollar payday next yr.. If he drops off and under performs he could drop well under that 8 mil.. He's a good LT though and unless an elite guy falls to us in the draft, then it would be pretty stupid to not pay him.

I was hoping they would go after EDS or Brian De la Puenta....... Seems like they are going to miss out on them. I think one of them would have made a significant impact. I don't think they will get Mack.
Well EDS is already off the market and I'm not sold on BDLP. I'd rather get Montgomery(that the skins just released) for a short 2 yr. deal over BDLP.

Faking, or lying about an injury to add to the injury report and/or injured reserve list is probably a findable offense if the NFL bigwigs find out about it.
It happens every single yr. with just about every single franchise. There is no way to prove a player really isn't injured. Thats why teams all have a doctor on the payroll. We kept Justin Anderson on IR all last season and he wasn't really injured, unless being fat and out of shape is an injury now.

I really do not understand the logic behind this thread. Since when is depth and versatility a bad thing?
There is no logic behind this thread! It's almost concerning to me when I read posts or threads that are this dumb. It really makes me wonder how some people have made it as far in life as they have.

He's a luxury item.
, A Luxury item??? Are you serious? Yeah, he'd be extremely expensive and may potentially not be worth the investment, but he is far from a luxury item when our center situation is clearly iffy at best. I hope Costa turns out to be really good and since he doesn't have a long history about him, it's hard to know exactly what were getting with him, but it would be nice if he was able to do eactly what we need from him.

I think we'll only carry 5. We may carry 6 if Reggie still isn't 100% by the time the season starts. They'll know what Reggie's health is like by the end of preseason and if he's back to form we'll only carry 5. I think it'll come down between Brazill and Whalen. It'll depend on who the coaching staff thinks has more talent and potential. It will have absolutely nothing to do with how well Whalen knows Luck or their past history in college. If the coaches think Brazill is more talented, he'll get the nod. If they think Whalen brings more to the team, then it'll be Whalen.

What are you gonna do when they draft wr too?
I doubt they do for one thing, but even if they do its no big deal. Drafting one was never an issue for me. Were already gonna have to let somebody go so I'd be surprised to see them draft another one and have to let 2 go.
-
I really hope Costa comes in and blows everybody away with his dominant play. Then we'll see all the haters posting about how they liked the signing when it happened and they knew all along that he would be good. There will literally be about 5 people that have balls enough to admit that they were wrong.

Jones without a doubt.

what's a Polian?
It's the definition for a bitter angry old man that thinks he's smarter than the common folk that are beneath him.
-
Looking at college tape I would say the same about Holmes though. I would have prefered EDS but he is a Buc now.
That's exactly what I said about Holmes and I said it as soon as we drafted him last yr.. Didn't like it then and I think is the reason why they didn't try him at center last season. Maybe he's gotten stronger and they think he can handle it now but as far as paying to bring in BDLP, I just think were probably just as well off with Costa and Holmes.
-
Maybe we did. How'd that work out for us though when filling in injuries with real talent?
I've never thrown the baby out with Polian's bathwater. His number was $5-10 Million and that's where I have to assume seasoned GMs like to be.
That's true, but there really isn't very good talent you're going to be able to get when the season rolls around anyway. If we had any chance at getting Mack(and I'm not sure we actually do) I would be more than alright getting down to bare bones cap room to do it.
-
Was not hot on this, but for that price...wow. Mack or BDP and i am happy.
I think I would rather take my chances with Costa and Holmes over BDLP. BDLP just isn't a man blocking lineman IMO and he's not very strong. He's OK for a zone blocking team but I don't think he fits for us.
-
Not if going into the season with $7-10 Million for seasonal needs is a neccesity. ;)
I'm pretty sure we went into last season with only about 4 million. With only having a few draft picks and no 1st rder. we don't need very much.
-
yeah. Might as well give him #18.
It wouldn't bother me. I honestly don't care and never understood why fans care what number a player wears. If the player is good and does their job. That is all that matters to me. He could wear 666 or have a picture of flipping the bird on their jersey for all I care.
-
I'd like to see DRC with the Horseshoe.
I'd be OK with that, but I'd still rather work on the o-line somehow.
-
What do you mean? The Panthers offered him 4.5 million. It was supposed to be over a few years.
That was 4.5 per yr..
-
Grigs is making everyone forget about Polian
People should have done that a long time ago!
-
that would be quite upsetting considering marvin harrison wore that number.
Its just a number...who cares?
-
Yesterday people were ready to burn Grigson on the stake for the Costa signing and today he's the greatest GM to ever work in the NFL. If people would just stop over reacting to everything emotions wouldn't jump from one extreme to the other.
-
As much as I didn't see the need for this deal, if the 1 yr. at 3.5 mil. is accurate, I can't throw a fit about that. He's a good receiver if he can stay healthy and for that little bit of money, it's a good sign.
-
Yeah Im not obsessing, Like you say I just had to get it off my chest, I really really hope that whoever starts (Costa, Holmes) plays great but I do have plenty of concerns/doubts about it, not going to obsess over it though
Yeah, I have concerns too. I'm still hopeful that maybe we pull a surprise and get a better center. Then again, Costa is still pretty young and don't have much experience. He don't have a proven track record of being bad, so for all we know, he could turn out to be pretty good. There was a point in time when nobody thought Jeff Saturday would be any good either and there are others that struggled early and then turned out to be good. There really isn't enough to go on to tell if he can be a successful center. I have read a few things on him that seem to suggest that he's got potential.
Brian De La Puente-who will sign him?

I've wondered all along why people here thought this guy was worth signing for us. He's not the type of center we need, he's not a good run blocker at all and is not strong. This guy wouldn't be much of an upgrade from Satele and its obvious the Colts think that too. I myself would much rather go with Costa and Holmes over BDLP.
