  1. I think trading down is certainly on the table. If the QB and top players we covet for 13 are gone then I'm sure we will be fielding partners for the right trades. But I'm leaning towards thinking we won't because I'm thinking it unlikely that there isn't going to be someone there the Colts really like. Either the QB they want may fall, or due to a run of QBs some a top 5-9 non-QB will probably fall to us.

Hurts TD pass was nice, he dropped that right over the top and of the defender and into the arms.

Gordon's TD pass, like you stated, falling over and still placed it exactly where it needed to be.  But, IMO, even more impressive was the pass in the endzone that wasn't a TD.  They just got backed up by a holding call and he threw a dart at the back of the endzone the ND receiver just could not come down with his feet in bounds.  But the zip and ball placement on that pass were near perfect.

I thought Love's pass in the 1st quarter was going for a TD.  I think the receiver just lost it in the sun.

Found a link for the Gordon pass https://twitter.com/i/status/1221191244564426753

Like one of the comments in the thread.  It was a great throw but all the announcers talked about was how he could have ran the ball.  He doesn't have a huge arm, but scrambling to the left and throwing that pass 25 yards on a rope shows he has the arm strength for the NFL.

God, yeah that was another beautiful pass. Just now learning about his baseball background and I can see it now.

  3. 1. Burrow

    2. Herbert

    3. Love

    4. Fromm

    5. Gordon

    6. Eason

    7. Hurts

    8. Shea

Not much to see here. I played it somewhat safe. I like Fromm a decent deal more than others here do, but I acknowledge I have my concerns. As I said elsewhere either today or yesterday, only the top two would have me really hyped at 13. Love would have me optimistic. Fromm I would be content with at 34 if the coaches and FO like him, more ideally 44. Gordon would need to wait till at least 44, more ideally 75. Eason is just someone I'm waiting to see more of. Consider him TBD really.

  4. Count me among those who would be pretty happy with this. Probably my favorite mock thus far.

It starts with your Free Agency. It's not perfect. As others have already said I have my doubts we spend that much. You can tell Ballard wants to be frugal and have cap to extend contracts. Just look at our 2021 FA class and you will see what I mean. But I like who you chose and how it will impact our draft.

This is why I don't really do many mock drafts before FA. Free agency can often be about putting the team in the best position to enter the draft with options. The draft afterall is actually unpredictable at times. It helps to have contingencies. Hargrave, for example, does that. He's not only an upgrade up front, he may make passing on Kinlaw more viable. And if we pick Herbert or Love we don't have to suffer the potential drop off in DT talent come round 2. If our QB is gone, we could still grab Kinlaw and doubt down on our D-line, or we could take the BPA of a likely WR, OT, or pass rusher being there. Or we could even trade back, get another second, still get an impact player, maybe get someone like Fromm, Eason, or Gordon with one of our 2nd or 3rds.  Without Hargrave, if we miss out on Love, Herbert, Brown, AND Kinlaw, I'm feeling disappointed about our D-line potentially. I'm sure there are others who could surprise, but this is a nice example of how FA can influence a draft.

  5. Not a fan:

It's a Fanspeak mock. They are ridiculously unrealistic. Didnt we have a pinned thread for these in previous years? Not only can I not take them serious, I can barely even humor them.

I get mocks are for fun, but IMO simulated mock drafts aren't that fun to discuss. I bet if you took a bit of time to create your own mock draft, you'd probably come up with a great one. I like where you head is at, there is some good talent here. They just won't be where you drafted them.

  6. I'm quite late to the party but here were my thoughts:

    3 Best Throws
    1. Hurts TD- Dude was under a lot of pressure all game and that deserves some mention had at least one bad mistake, but that was a 30ish yard dime

    2. Gordon's 2nd TD- Dude looked like he was playing backyard football when he threw it side armed off his back foot, but damn if it didn't look good.

    3. Love's Missed Deep Pass- I don't think the pressure was really ALL that bad, but it was everything you wanted to see out of him this game except the WR losing sight of it.

QB Rankings (For Just This Game, Calm Down)

    1. Herbert- He remains the only QB at 13 I'd be quite happy for. I'm content rolling with Love at the pick too, but Herbert seems more polished and fits our offense I think.

    2. Gordon- That release was fantastic. 2 solid TD drives. Like Eason and Fromm, this guy stands the best chance from here on out of raising their stock significantly. I want to see some deep balls and for godsake put on 20 pounds!

    3. Love- He was second only to Hurts in falling victim to crappy circumstances. Playcalling was not his friend. I can confirm Love can hand off the ball. Two passes he had didn't even look errant, looked like the WRs were off-sync.

    4. Hurts- I haven't really looked at reactions, but I imagine some people are being pretty harsh on the guy. But no one had more pressure on them today than Hurts. But when he had room to throw I think he was great. He had some straight up errors though that set him below the other guys, but he showed some nice stuff.

    5. Some Other Guys- No Comment

    MISC

-Gandy-Golden continues to dazzle me. How fast is this guy? - is my only question. Otherwise he just LOOKS the part of a future star.

  7. I mean... we were 7-9. I get that we have high expectations, but sometimes you see teams have to be bottom feeders for several years before they can start sniffing sustained success (see: the 49ers). If we imagine that we'd lost Luck at the start of the Ballard era I imagine we'd be looking at our team in a much different light. We probably would not have reached the playoffs any of those years.

Ballard inherited a bad, aging roster from Grigson and I felt right away this would be a 3 year project minimum before we were competitive. Well it only took two years and going into that year 3 we looked so promising. Then BAM Luck retires.

Luck's impact on this team is enough that it certainly changes our team's outlook when he's gone. A 3 year rebuild turns into what? 5? And honestly? That's where I think we are. We were a few missed kicks, late interceptions away from the post season this year already. With the cap we have, and the draft stock we carry, as long as we can improve our QB situation, the rest of our roster is primed to continue to grow for a couple more years before we really have to start worrying about cap.

So with that said... please don't retire Anthony Constonso!  My heart may not be able to handle the setback.

so you hate on Love yet want the QB that has been the literal definition of trash at the very same senior bowl practices?

I think you may be overreacting. The general perception on Gordon from what I have read was that he steadily improved throughout the week and learned the playbook quickly. Looked rough on Tuesday, good on Wednesday, and great on Thursday. Similar thing happened with Hurts. Not saying Gordon is my guy but I don't know if pundits would agree his overall Senior Bowl work was trash. I think worst case scenario his stock stayed the same.

Edit: as an added point, Minshew had a bad week at the Senior Bowl last year and still went in the 3red to the Jags. He has won them some games and looks to be their started next year.

Jeudy has been seen as the #1 WR for this class, and one of the best (if not THE best) route runners to come out in quite a few years.  I'd prefer a QB or DT, but the Colts would be getting an OUTSTANDING prospect who could be our #1 for years to come.  I'd be just fine with it.

Agreed, and this may very well happen. I really think Kinlaw's stock is rising now. And the QB we want may not be there, and there may not even be one we want even if they are there. If that were the case the most likely top players to fall into our lap would be one of the top two WRs or a top OT.

I was thinking "if we are going to move up, we might as well move up for Tua, trading with the Giants"?? We plan to sit a new QB for a year anyways, might as well get the one we know did real well in an oustanding conference.

Good point! I made that thread about what we'd have to give up to even get one of the QBs and speculated we might have to trade to the Giants, I didn't even consider that would mean we'd be in contention for Tua. Not really feeling doing that, but it does give us a high dealing option.

not sure what you been reading but in this draft there are a good number of Qb's that look just as good as Herbert and love and there not even top tier names so we may not even have to trade up.

Never said I specifically had to have one of those two. I'm team Kinlaw for now. But more importantly, I'm not the one drafting. This thread is about IF Ballard and Reich want one of these guys, but had to trade up to get them, what would be the cost, who would be the trade partner, and for fans who want one of those two, what would they be okay with.

  12. Personally, I see Kinlaw's draft stock continually rising. If we trade back from 13, I don't expect him to last but a couple picks at most. If we trade back at all in this draft I hope it would only be because the QB we want isn't available at 13 and we don't like anyone else after that. then we consider trading back and getting ammunition for next year. Even then I don't feel thrilled by that. Kinlaw is very worthy of the 13th pick and he won't last long after imo.

  13. With the Senior Bowl practices underway it feels like draft season is kicking off. It's only taken one day to further fuel speculation that the Colts may need to trade up to get Herbert or Love. So I ask two questions: Who do we trade up to? and What do we have to give up?

The problem is that you have the Dolphins at 5, Chargers at 6, Panthers at 7, and Raiders at 12 all as very potential candidates to take a QB. Obviously free agency may help thin the herd, but from the early look of things, even trading up to No. 8 with the Cards doesn't even seem safe. So then who do we go up with? The Lions? The Giants? The price gets a lot steeper the further you go up. So what are you as fans willing to give up?

As a fan, I'm currently in the camp of not moving up for either, but if the team loves one, then do what you have to do.

  14. Now this is a thread I will love to keep tabs on! I'm already opting out of the idea of taking a WR at 13 even if Lamb or Juedy is there. There looks like a TON of talent to be nabbed between our 34th pick until our 4th rounder. As of now I really like KJ Hill, Peoples-Jones, Pittman, and Gandy-Golden. All will probably be available by our 44th pick, some may last much longer.

And those are names were just my favorite. Aiyuk and Tyler Johnson look pretty good too. Lots of value this year at WR.

What don't you like about Aiyuk?

He had 1192 yds as a WR, 446 yds as a KR, and 226 yds as a PR. He has great speed and if i remember correctly he was the #1 Post-route WR in college football.

I honestly don't think he will even be available at #34

I just clarify it's not just him, it's also where he's drafted. And as I said, what to do at pick 34 is a mystery to me so maybe someone like him is the right choice, afterall. I would concede that this early I don't have much to go off of. The bits I had seen of him I was concerned about some body catches and thought he didn't look explosive. His balance looked insane though iirc, definitely can slide out of a tackle. I also try to give players projected in the top 3 round a good look at some point especially if they are in a position of need, so I'm sure I'll watch some play by play stuff on him and may feel different. I think he's great, don't get me wrong, but I like someone like KJ Hill or Donovan Peoples-Jones just as much and they are going in the late second not late 1st/early second. Just my 2 cents.

  16. I definitely like it!

I'm personally, for now, on team "Anthony Gordon at No.44". I'm not really a fan of Aijuk at 34 though, but we all have guys we like or don't like. Honestly pick 34 is the biggest enigma for me. When looking at prospect rankings I'm often left feeling underwhelmed with who shows up there. My hope would be someone surprising Falls to us, but that doesn't really make for a realistic mock, so I'll have to stay tuned this off-season to see who seems worthy.
