  1. I have seen alot of Luck he is very Peyton like.. he reads the defenses and has a good arm and I would say more run ability.. my concern is how does he handle a strong defense ie.. secondary.. the pac 10 has been weak for the last 12 years there I really wanted to see him go up against Alabama or LSU to see he is 0-2 against a Oregon and they are not as good as SEC..

He is good and Should be good in the NFL.. But there is no guarantee.. I am not convinced he is the one and only.. we are in a special place with the first pick... and I also feel that they values will be inflated especially on RGIII ( which I am a fan of, but only 1 year as QB )..

I trust in our new GM.. he reads poeple and the players and I will trust in his opinion..

who knows it may not be Luck or RG .. let;s wait and see

Well, in his defense... I don't think those losses to Oregon were due to a lack of him playing well. In fact, he played awesome in the bowl game, Oregon just put up more points. lol

  2. If you're going to think about it like that, then your getting a great deal on the last few years of his contract. That's why he gets paid in a contract. The only reason he gets $28 million dollar roster bonuses is because it helps the colts against the cap. He could have made the deal where he got $18 million dollars flat every year for 5 years, but that wouldn't be very helpful to the colts cap space.

It's really annoying when people say things like this... they see a big number, and then act like he is getting overpaid... Just think about it like he gets paid the same amount every year if he finishes his contract, because in actuality, he is getting paid the same amount every year.

This isn't really a reasonable arguement considering no one has made a stance on if we're talking about if he's going to be healthy or not. Assuming you're talking about saying we owe it to him to take a risk on his injurey come Marth 8th (because if you're not talking about that then you're literally arguing with no one), then you're saying let's risk 44mil of dead cap (whether we cut him or trade him) over the next 4 years on a player who may not even play 1 year let alone 4. We should never put ourselves in a situation where we owe someone who is not playing. If the Colts want to keep Manning he needs to either be 100%, or a serious contract reduction needs to commence. Ideally both...

  3. You would be correct if Peyton Manning took a standard contract for his level of play, but he didn't. He takes less money than he could actually get. He could have gotten over $20 million dollars a year last year in his contract, but he thought that helping the team was better than taking more money. He wanted to keep around guys like Joseph Addai and other free agents who make the team better. He also has restructured his contracts several times over the years to help out the colts salary cap situations.

Yes, the colts do actually owe him.

I don't get what you're saying to refute my point. What does Peyton Manning restructuring his contract have anything to do with my opinion of not agreeing when people say "we owe it to Peyton to keep him for what he's done for Indy!" Yes, Peyton helps us out in the cap sometimes... I've literally said nothing against that because it has absolutely zero to do with what I said. Even if that had anything to do with what I said then let me argue that because you clearly like to argue for the sake of arguing. What does Peyton restructuring his contract have anything to do with a feeling of obligation to pay him? You're saying that because Peyton is a good teammate and restructures his contract we should feel emotionally obligated to pay him? Because that's all that is: emotion. If we were financially obligated to pay him it wouldn't be an option to pay him 28mil on March 8th. Like I said before. If we made financial decisions based on emotions this would be a much less competitive league...

  4. Well the "scouts" arent saying that he's the best prospect since Peyton, they are saying he's the best prospect since Elway. Do i think he will be good? Definitely. Do i think he will be better than Peyton? Nope.

If you look at Kiper's ratings, he also had Matt Ryan ranked about as highly in most categories as Peyton, coming out of college. I think Luck will be better than Matt Ryan, but not as good as Peyton. He could very well turn out to be similar to Eli, though.

So to answer your question, do i believe the he is the best COLLEGE prospect since Peyton? Yeah, probably so...but i dont think he will be as good or better than Peyton in the NFL

Matt Ryan is really good, I'm not unconvinced he won't continue to get better, he's definitely some big playoff victories away from "elite status", and yes he could end up being better than Peyton. Not likely, but he young and the Falcons have the look of a team on their way up for the next few years.
  5. your saying that you don't think his triceps will heal? I'm saying it will. that's basically it. There is not other real thing to argue about.

I in no shape or form said anything pertaining to one of your prior comments. I haven't even read any of your comments. Therefore, I never said anything at all about Peyton's health. If you read what I said I'm mearly stating my opinion on people who say "we owe it to Peyton" to keep him.
  6. I bet we never hear PM say "Indy owes it to me to keep me in Indy!" Why do so many fans feel like saying we owe it to Manning is a legitimate case to make? We don't owe him anything, that's why we pay him money... He goes out and wins games for us and what do we give him in return? We make him the highest paid player in the NFL. If organizations signed players and kept them around out of pure respect it would be a much less competitive league.

  7. I personally, have no qualms with Irsay doing things like this. He's still giving Peyton choices, which is more than many other great QBs were given, and I truly believe he wants Peyton back, but at least he's being smart about it, acknowledging first he needs to be healthy then leaving it to Manning to help fit in with "all the salary cap issues". I don't think it's as simple as him craftely ridding the organization of Peyton, he's just using his brain.

  8. If that trade happened I would change a few things:

RD1 PCK 4: Morris Claiborne CB LSU

RD1 PCK 22: Mark Barron SS Alabama

RD2 PCK 34: Dontari Poe NT Memphis (don't think his stock has risen to 1st round but its possible)

RD2 PCK 37: Kevin Zeitler OG Wisconsin

RD2 PCK 47: Chris Polk RB Washington

    RD3 PCK 65: Jared Crick DE/DT Nebraska

RD3 PCK 68: Brock Osweiler QB Arizona State

RD4 PCK 97: Tommy Streeter WR Miami

While I want my team to make the best possible choice, this simple mock is another fine example of the many things we could do with the 1st pick that I'd be satisfied with. We could Take Luck, Take Griffin, or trade and made bank, all of these would be amazing. Let's just hope we don't get thrown a curve ball and we end up

  9. Scenario A2: Try to keep PM, even with the current uncertainty about his performance ability (nerve/arm issue), by not paying PM the $28MM option bonus due March 8, release PM and negotiate a new, reduced contract with him before April 26. If this is done, trade the #1 overall pick and get a boatload of other draft picks with which to fill holes to improve the team (default to scenario A1). If this cannot be done, use the #1 overall pick to draft PM's replacement at QB (default to scenario B).

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I'm no expert on the salary cap, but I don't think that Scenario A2 is even remotely doable. I thought even with not paying Manning by March 8th we incur $10.4mil in "dead money" against the cap (we save some 6mil though w/o him), so to lose that money and have to pay him in an additional contract would be a big finacial blow. If I'm wrong someone should take this opportunity educate me (Preferably someone who actually knows what they're talking about not just they think they know what they're talking about), but my brief research says even if we don't pay him we still have pay this 10mil

  10. Case Keenum out of University of Huston

    3 straight 5000yd seasons

    this season he threw 50TDs +or- 1 or 2

thats just his stats his game on film is just as impressive

He is more that just stats if you have any question of the man then WATCH SOME FILM OF HIM

This kid IS THE REAL DEAL!!! and we can draft him at a later round possibly, he is getting no media attention.

In his bowl game against Penn State he threw for 532 yards!!!

He was coached by one of the best in the business Dana Holgerson!

Case Keenum will be a star in the NFL as long as he remains healthy

Case Keenum beat some good teams, but he's far to risky of a pick to not take Luck, and Luck's scouting prospects are much better anyways.
  11. Probably a tie between

Bob Sanders- He broght so much excitement and "impact" to the game.

Reggie Wayne- loved Marvin and all the achievements he made, but I always rooted for Wayne as the underdog of the two so now it's weird to see he's been playing as long as he has and may be on his way out.

And of course Peyton Manning is in there, but I feel like I have to make the hipster decision and not go with the obvious answer.

  12. QBs who are hyped this much I would actually argue are rarely ever a bust (Though they're not always legends either). It's usually the guys who have hype and go late in the 1st round or into the second that are sometimes flops. And it's true you never know how someone will adjust to the higher level of play in the NFL, but for gods sake look at some of the rookie successes out there and look how much better Luck's play is. He's not just some kid who had this magic gift. His father was in the pros, coached by Jim Harbaugh, etc... Sure he's smart and has developed his own play, but the dude was groomed for this, he's been prepped by guys who know what the transition into the NFL takes. We are insanely lucky to be in position to pick him up, it really is like the football gods are smiling on us.

  13. Claiborne is a top pick because of his skills, athelticism etc. Not because of the receivers he lined up against. Why can't you wrap your head around that?

While I don't argue that skill and athleticism are usually the primary attributes scouts look at, scouts should and absolutely do look at difficulty of matchups. It fits into a general category Scouts call "Production" which is not a measure of statistics, but what creates these stats. Why is he productive? Is the production due more to his ability and efforts or those of his teammates or the scheme that he plays in. Or is it the difficulty of the match ups paired with skill? Fortunately, he really kind of excells in all categories scouts look at. lol
  14. I have to say I certainly was taken a step back on my opinion of Manning returning. The signs of Manning leaving seemed so prevelent in the past few weeks that I'd already emotionally prepared myself for the news, but after hearing Peyton's optimism, I'm not exactly sure what to think. He expects to be "cleared and ready to go"? (or something to that extent) What does that mean, why couldn't they ask him to elaborate? Does he mean ready to play by March 8th, next year, or something entirely different?

Though my opinion is shaken, the fact does remain that this isn't Peyton's decision to make, and some signs of Peyton being cut still exist. I still see him being cut, but I'm done trying to decide one way or another. It sounds like we may be just a week away from some answers, so I'm excited. Our franchise will move on one way or another.

  15. I think Peyton started this because he said he didn't want to get in a "fan campaign with the owner" he knew from that very interview what he was doing, but none of this matters. They worked it out and the rest is just the media trying to make something our of nothing

"Peyton and I love each other, that goes without saying..I humbly serve n protect the Horseshoe..it is bigger than any individual, including me" -Irsay via twitter some 30-some minutes ago.

  16. First and foremost, thank you to MP Nation for a great topic.

Secondly, to anyone who says building to win your division is bogus needs to get their head checked. The Texans are excellent example of this in itself, their an OL powerhouse with a tremendous running game, and what are we constantly bad at? Run defense... Jacksonville? Runs all over us. The Colts are a heavily pass oriented team, the Texans were the 3rd ranked pass defense in this years regular season; Jacksonville was 8th, Tennessee was 14th... Now look at what we've been in the Manning era; we're a pass rushing defense meant to cause chaos in the passing game. We actually had the 15th rank pass defense even in this awful year (However, it is worth noting this is partially based on yards in which most teams just opted to run the ball more lol). We were meant to play from the lead.

I love the idea of looking ahead and I am very excited about the future. I think we do need a bigger run-stopping defense with some talent in the secondary. I know a lot of Indy fans are scared of this because they love to watch the Colts for it's exciting offense, but if you ever go to the games it's all about pumping up that defense and it's so fun and exciting. Indy fans just aren't used to knowing what it feels like to have a big presense on defense. You know it would be fun to be the feared Indiapolis defense.

And it doesn't end there with propects like Andrew Luck (We are so lucky! Pun actually not intended), and the constant flow of talented recievers who come in each year, I see no reason why we can't still turn heads in the passing game, and who knows if we can get a better OL our running game might even be a pleasant surprise.

We can be getting younger, stronger, and cheaper, Indy! Be excited, because this lousy season may very well be the best thing that happened to us since well, our last horrible season where we went on to pick up PM! Unfortunately this may very well ben the Texans time, but I'm already seeing a Jacksonville Indy power struggle down the line. ^_^ (Sorry, Titans :P)

  17. It wasn't so long ago that Manning accused Kravitz of being Andrew Luck's agent. Now, he grants him an exclusive interview and waxes poetic. It was carefully planned and articulated to make a point, like a politician. I think Irsay and Manning had an understanding about how everything was going to play out and for some reason Peyton decided to do this. It puts a bad spin on Irsay.

Thank you! I just don't think that beloved fans want to accept that Peyton really does seem like he's being political. If you watch Kravitz recollection of his phone call/interview with Peyton, he says Peyton actually called him back after the initial interview to add some things and dicuss further. To me this looks like Peyton had a point to make, and I think he wouldn't have brought up his line in Kravitz interview about "Not wanting to get in a fan campaign with the owner" if he didn't understand this was exactly what his comments were going to do! Think about it, people, Peyton knew what he was saying, he wanted to hint he's feeling the pressure that he's being cut off from this new operation, and while he doesn't like that kind of media attention I feel it's his only way to get out that it's not seeming fair for him right now.

On a side note, I really hope this isn't how it ends or at least not nasty of course. I've always taken pride in feeling like our organization is one of the greatest and honest to it's fans and players, but it'll seem cheap if irsay continues to keep Manning out of the process and then outs him. There will certainly be some respect loss there from my end.

  18. It is worth noting, since a lot people seem to jump to conclusions and say things like, "Peyton sounds sad or like a man on his way out," Kravitz said in his recollection of the interview that Peyton was more upbeat than he'd seen him in a long time and that when Kravitz said he though Peyton was done in Indy he clearly pointed to what HE saw as "signs" Petyon was done. He doesn't refer to Peyton Manning's giving any hints. The interview they had is right there for us to read, so we get the same info Kravitz got, build your own opinion, because at this point Kravitz knows no more than we do.

Personally speaking however, I am of the opinion that people like Kravitz and La Confora are bringing up signs that cannot perhaps be ignored. (A rebuilding team, an old vet with an uncertain future, a new GM who hadn't met with Peyton yet, the personal training coach fired) And these guys know that Irsay has said it comes down to Peyton being healthy, but think of it this way, the new adminstration in Indy isn't even rebuilt yet, so we don't even know what kind of a new team we're going to be or what style of offense or defense we're going to play. AND that's not even the huge problems like what do we do with Peyton Manning or our biggest starters going to free agency or who do we draft. It's easy for Irsay to say, "Hey, I recognize the importance of Peyton Manning so if he's healthy he plays", before he gets to the issue after a new GM a new HC and assistant coaches arrive and everyone's opinions factor in. "OH, WELL IRSAY HAS THE FINAL SAY!" Yes he does, but is it always the smart decision to take 28mil from the salary cap for one player when you can spend that money for new young players today and prepare for wins tomorrow?

I think for so many Indy fans, the reality hasn't sunk in that we have to rebuild, if you look at how different our team is from just 2 years ago and just look at who we're probably going to lose in the offseason just this year, it's hard see even with Peyton how we can have a 10 win season again, let alone make it to a Superbowl. Also people don't seem to understand how 1 draft never solves anyones problems. So many people seem to think, "Hey, let's get Peyton and Luck, and with our other picks we'll rebuild into a great team!" It doesn't work like that. once you get into the 6th round the likely hood for star players plummets; and with Luck and Peyton you can almost gaurantee losing all those free agents due to salary issues. We need Linemen, we need recievers, we need DEs, Cornerbacks, etc... now look at our draft picks from last year (2 went to Injured Reserve). Many analysts graded our picks fairly well, but the results awful, our top 3 picks were all injured for at least multiple games this year, and even when they weren't hurt they weren't huge impact players. So how do you think in 5 rounds this year with the 1st being a garuanteed QB, are we going to get lucky enough to fill those holes with impact players, all in a organization who now has ZERO consistency, because everyone has to learn a new system, and if you look at teams with mass success, New England, Green Bay, New Orleans, Indy 5 years ago they are all fully consistant. Maybe we'll build back up to that, but it takes several years, which means Peyton gone before real success even hits. This is why it makes the most sense that they'll drop Peyton and take this first pick year as an opportunity to start rebuilding now rather than delay the inevitable.
