  1. I understand how good he is. In fact I was a supporter of getting him but that quickly dissipated when I realized how if we traded him how he alone alone would set this franchise up with all the draft picks he would garner. Either way we will be set up for long-term success but I would much rather trade away

My bad then - I thought you were suggesting something entirely different. I certainly see what you're saying - I would personally rather keep him and mould him into Manning mark 2 but like you say, long-term success either way and I'd not complain about either.

  2. If you guys don't like it, feel free to leave. No one is forcing you to be here. All of our rules are clearly posted and aren't ambiguous. They are easy to understand and follow; this is a football forum, it isn't asking for too much when we say don't call each others names or attack each other. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but make sure this is the right place for it. The rest of the forum members don't care what you think about another member. We are here to mainly discuss football and football related topics. So feel free to post your opinion and start a discussion, in fact, we encourage it. But there is no need to resort to name calling and attacks when you don't agree with someone's opinion.

And if you feel like you can't do that or you don't like how we moderate the forums, leave. No one is forcing you to be here.

Don't be ridiculous. You're supposed to be a moderator, a position of responsibility, and you're coming out with "if you don't like it then leave" which is a ridiculous position to take in any situation. People are allowed to have issues with the way the site is run without wanting to leave. If you vote democrat but a republican President wins, and you complain about it, then wouldn't you be disgusted if somebody told you to # off to another country? No, you have the right to disagree without being told to leave, as we should do on here.

And any references to the 'amendments' and 'free speech' do not apply to a privately owned forum. You agree to abide by the rules of this site when you join. It is each and every member's own responsibility to read, understand and follow the rules.

A side note to freedom of speech. When you choose to invoke that freedom, you must also take responsibility for what you say. It is a two way street. You are free to say whatever you please here. But we are also free to enforce the rules that we have been entrusted to carry out. ;)

Now once again and for the final time, forum moderation issues should be addressed to one of the mods privately. Forum moderation is not going to become a free-for-all debate or gripefest for everyone. We are just doing our jobs.

Is this going to be back on topic, or is the subject finished?

The amendment thing was a joke so please don't try to one up me on that. And I take full responsibility, and stand by everything I say until I'm given reason to apologise, something a lot of members on here could do with learning.

It is truly a win-win situation, so why all the fighting?

It's very simple - because of people like Doogan (no, he's not the only one) who play the true fan card on people who disagree with them, whether explicitly or like Doogan, implicitly with vehement denial, even though everybody sees the pedestal. I've spoken to several people on here who have no issue with people with different opinions to them, but then a thread like this comes along so violently disagreeing with every pro-lose person, it's bound to start conflict. God forbid what would happen if I started a thread this incensed about how losing is the best thing to do.

  3. Don't you guys have amendments about this sort of thing?

Granted I'm pleased you actually responded. Normally if I were to post anything controversial it would be deleted and/or ignored. I'm not questioning why you're doing it, I'm just saying you don't need to. It's a difference of opinion and I'm not going to press the point any further, until the issue upsets me again when I'll get on my own little soapbox :)

  4. This has been edited to "Please Consider This"?? Really?! I mean, I think Doogan is a self-aggrandising patronising "holier than thou" edit, but the levels of censorship on this site are taking it too far. If he wants to look down on everybody with a different opinion to him, then let him, similarly if people want to tell him how much of an dipstick they think he's being let them. Provided nobody is getting hurt (save a slight internet ego bruise), then it's no big deal. Death threats and over the top insults are different matters, but let him have his opinion!

  5. Well, we certainly don't want to tank and be accused of cheating, buut...

We need one more really good look at Painter, Hughes, Pollack, Lefege at DB, and others. How else we gonna decide about some of our players if we don't let them start and play in a meaningful, division game instead of just preseason or non division games?

    C'mon, Man...

We GOTTA re-evaluated before the next draft !

    I'm just sayin'...

Addai used to play QB, he might be a valuable backup? Can evaluate him vs Jags?

  6. I know Dan, I was just teasin.

People have been rubbing the creamy salve of Andrew Luck on the open wound that has been this season. I feel that many have lost sight entirely of what we have in place and there is no absolute need for a #1 pick or a projected franchise caliber rookie QB at this time.

    The way I've vested my emotions is as follows;

If we win, I'm happy about that as a fan and I know that the draft is going to procure excellent opportunity.

If we lose, then as a fan, I'm upset that I didn't get to see my team win but I'm at least happy about the future and the bevy of options that my teams FO has to work with.

Either way I'm happy because I know that positive comes out of either end.

Very fair way to look at it on the whole. Whatever happens isn't too bad because we're almost over this horrible season, and pick 1 or 2 we'll do something very useful for the future of that team. I've just admittedly had my heart set on Andrew Luck since I realised we had a real chance of getting him (I thought it was in the bank until Titans...) and I honestly believe he's the best way to go. But like you say, positives whatever happens. Let's all look forward to a playoff appearance next season.

  7. But it's not a real choice to me. We play to win.

That's what it boils down to imo. That's what divides people right now.

You can call it corny and meaningless, if you like

It is not corny or meaningless to me. It's the way the game is played

There's nobody denying that. The issue in contention is whether it's for the best to not win - people who think it is for the best want a loss, people who don't want a win - no better fan mumbo jumbo. If I was a player I'd be playing to win no doubt, but I'm not.

  8. I've been hearing people desire for Luck since week 5-6. Folks have been literally blathering on about this for most of the season. I can post a few hundred examples of such if you would like?

I've witnessed the same people that were talking about how disgusting it is that we're gonna go 0-16, now upset that we aren't. I believe the #1 pick would be a curse disguised as a blessing. The timing isn't right, no matter how good Luck may be, it's too early to fish for Manning's replacement. The idea sounded good to me until the first time I heard the unthinkable ....."Trade Peyton". Sure Polian could trade the pick, but there's too much pressure to draft Luck so ....what to do what to do?

As a fan, for myself, I want to see this horrendous season end on a high, sweeping through our division with a 3 game run. We go into the off-season with the #2 overall and much promise of a good season ahead. Peyton's our guy and lets not subtract from that by having his grossly overpaid replacement sitting bench-locked for years and years.

Week 5-6 where we were 0-5/6 and looking like we'd be unable to beat a team made up of people from this forum. I said at the start of the season - before we heard Manning was out, how many people do you think wanted us to go 0-16, 1-15 and draft Luck? About as many people as want to see us go 0-16 next season. The reason people want it now is because we all had our heart set and our eyes locked on pick number one and now a random, essentially meaningless run of form is jeopardising that. Not because we like draft picks - but we might as well make the best of a bad situation. Not lose every year to get loads of picks.

  9. Losing in sports happens. All the time, and I feel I'm mature enough to handle it. And if we lose to the Jags, I'll get over that too. As will the players.

The emotional tag line to all this winning stuff is rather corny. Reggie wasn't thinking about you when he held out a while back, was he?

I think some people are stuck in a sports movie with how corny it gets. End of the day, literally all it comes down to is meaningless win to put a bit of fluff on the stats (3-13 looks great guys, I really hope we get that!...) or the most valuable draft pick in 14 years.

  10. Actually you make a good point. If we draft Luck and continue to lose for the next two years, garnering the #1 overall 2 more times, we will have a great team in 2013. So lets rally together, Colts fans, and hope our team loses every game for years to come. Its for our best interest in the future.

Hey, thats what people want. They want to lose so we get better in the future, so lets lose a bunch and get way better!

Improvement through attrition. All we gotta do is last it out and maybe we can be as good as the Lions are now. Ya know, that team that isn't half as good as we were two years ago.

That's not the point, that's not what people want and you know it. I don't think anybody here wanted us to get Andrew Luck at the start of the season, but as it is we might as well make the most of a horrendous season and come out of it with something good. Very far from wanting us to tank every year, it's literally losing a meaningless game at the end of a horrible year.

  11. I know this was not addressed to me but no player is going to lay down.

Did you see Reggie's interview on the news? Basically he said that the players look out for their own careers and leave it to management to worry about draft picks, as that is their job.

Well thats the trick. The Colts have played so bad this year is easy to understand why some of the less intelligent fans conjured conspiracies of tanking.

The OP of this thread did stipulate 'if it appeared obvious'. I think the hypothetical would be better structured if he had given the parameter that it came out via the players leaking that they had been instructed to do so, thus removing any question of motive to better lay out this hypothetical.

Applies to both of you in that obviously no player is going to lay down - I think the two last games and our player's reactions to them have proved that, not that we'd be tanking from the start anyway. The problem is we have no idea about how deliberate a loss could be - Caldwell and gang could easily feel ridiculously conservative offensive plays and too risky defensive plays which would break the game for us. I'd need proof (as ruksak says, maybe by players leaking it) to make any sort of judgement

  12. Thats like saying you're not a good wife if you leave your husband for cheating on you. A true fan does not need to be a blind fan.

It's not the team who would be responsible, but Polian or Caldwell - by all means turn against them but could you honestly say if we went "Yep, we're gonna do what we think is best for the future of this franchise" you'd go "Nope had enough of this. What I think is best for the team overrules what the people who matter think is best for the team so I don't like the team"?
