  1. Here's a thought.  How about trading a TE for an OL?  Jack Doyle has apparently beaten out Dwayne Allen to be opposite Coby Fleener.  Allen looked uninterested in training camp when I saw him. Never seemed to go full speed and really loafed between plays and between drills.  There are a couple of teams out there who are really hurting for a TE.  We might be able to get a starting OL for him.  Ever think about our options if Costonzo goes down?  I'd also like to see Mewhort back at LG.  He was on his way to becoming one of the best IMHO.

  2. It always kills you when you see potential draftees that could single-handedly transform our defense, then you have to swallow the reality that they will be long gone by the time your pick arrives.  In this draft, both Leonard Williams of USC or Danny Shelton from Washington could instantly put our D in the upper echelon.  I think Grigson's got some big FA moves planned.  Should be fun.

  3. We need influx of talent everywhere.  Here's players I like in the draft and I'm trying to name guys we have a shot at and not pick all first rounders.  We need thumper at ILB and I like Benardrick McKinney and Denzel Perriman in first.  An ongoing problem is our OL.  We can't run effectively or consistently (although we do need more than our customary 8-12 carries per game)  All our OL is on the light side of 320 lbs.  We need a monster or 2 up there who also have some athleticism.  You typically have to draft a little higher then our usual 4th to 7th round to get those type of guys.  I like Laken Tomlinson of Duke at OG and either Donovan Smith (6'5" - 335lbs) of Penn St. or Corey Robinson (6'8" - 344lbs) of South Carolina.  Both played LT in college and would hopefully be good enough in pass protection to play RT in NFL.  Yes, we need a RB in the worst way, but to spend another 1st rounder on a RB after the Richardson fiasco is very risky.  We'd have to be really sure the guy was the real deal.  A 2nd miss there would be catastrophic.  I prefer waiting and taking RBs in like the 3rd and 4th rounds. Draft 2 of them since we can't seem to keep them healthy.

  4. I know it's more exciting to talk about offense, but did anybody notice that when we played teams with good QBs last year we couldn't stop them?  Manning was hurt in playoffs, so you can't count him.  Brady (twice), Rothlesberger, Romo.  All three teams also had superior running games.  We were physically outmatched in those games.  We need upgrades in defensive front 7 in worst way.  Don't think team will spend money on high dollar free agents this year.  I like DTs Knighton from Broncos and/or B.J. Raji from Packers to solidify front.  We then need an athletic thumper at ILB.  We can't win SB with players cut by the Browns.  Sorry, D'quell.

  5. I get hyped for the draft too, but we have to be realistic here. We didn't have a whole bunch of picks this year precisely because we got Vontae Davis last year. He WAS our 2nd round pick and I feel pretty good about that. The Khaled Holmes pick was the only question mark for me, but I have since learned that his play this past year was substandard because of a lingering injury. Let's hope that was the reason, because his 2012 tape really sucked. Overall I'm pretty happy with our picks. We're gonna be big, tough, and nasty this year.

  6. I hope the guy is a defensive genius or he's really gonna look bad with the defensive personnel we have this year. We've got some unique talent, but it will take someone with a fresh perspective to put them in positions to do what they do best. I think if he tries to fit them into traditional 3-4 positional molds, they will suck. He'll have to figure out how to optimize their strengths within a winning defensive framework. Tough job.
