This game just proves how bad the colts need to sign a FA WR and also take one early in the draft.
-
Anyone that realistically looked at this team would have said they were likely going to be within a game of 8-8 at best. I think I predicted 7-9.
This was a team with a ton of youth and a ton of holes.....they will have good days and bad and it's shown this season.
I think there are pieces in place to build on and they are positioned to win 10 games next year and likely make the playoffs once again....especially if Ballard can hit on some players in the draft and with his $120M in cap space.
-
They definitely need one early. Had they continued trending toward a top 5 pick, I'd probably have said wait until Rd 2.
However...as they now look like they'll be a middle of Rd 1 pick, they may want to use one then or at least with the Jets 2nd Rd pick.
-
Brissett is a FA after next season....so this offseason is the time to let him go.
I get why he wasn't traded this past offseason (Luck's health) -- but now that Luck has proven to be more or less back to his old self, Brissett needs to go this offseason or he walks after 2019 and the Colts get nothing in return.
I hope Ballard can trade him for decent value prior to the next draft.

Cause most of them suck....so they will keep rotating guys until they find someone that can hopefully be at least decent.
-
It would be close at the start, but once they actually kickoff would likely get ugly.
The Rams would likely put up 50+ pts
-
If we are to believe that the O-Line / Mack are improving to an above average level -- and we should get a better feel for that when they start back after the Bye....
If I were GM, I'd look to use my 3 - 1st /2nd picks next year to take (in no particular order) -- CB, WR and Pass rush DE. I think most of the picks next year will be on D -- other than 1 WR and perhaps an O-Lineman if one they like is there in Rd 3/4.
I'd also look to actually spend some of that $100M in cap room -- perhaps on a CB to start as well a WR to pair with Hilton and the guy we just drafted.
You can't do it all through the draft....eventually you have to shop in the high value aisle of FA and hope you hit with a stud contract that works out. This team can't wait for 2 or 3 more drafts as it is will eventually put you on the wrong side of Luck's (who turns 30 next Sept) career path.
-
The D is terrible, especially in the secondary. The Raiders offense is not good.
The Colts will likely have to put up 30 or more a game to win most of the time....thankfully, the way the line, RBs and Luck are playing that will be doable most of the time.

No moves will be made

At this point, Luck is probably the least of the problems facing the colts.

oh well, I'm sure that surplus of DB's the Colts have will be able to replace him..... ;)

IMO, I agree with the OP.
If you're not making the playoffs, finishing with a record that gets you a top 3 pick is much better when it comes to building for the future then finishing with a mid 1st rd pick and missing the playoffs.
I don't expect the players to want to tank/lose these games....especially when many wont even be around in a year or 2. They play for today and should always give 100% as they are playing for future paychecks.
However -- as a fan, if you aren't making the playoffs....I'd rather see you lose a couple of meaningless late season games and go 5-11 vs winning them and finishing 7-9.

I had them right where they are record-wise, but swap the Washington win with a win over Cincy.
Same here -- I figured best case they would be 2-3 at this point.
I expected most likely somewhere between 5-7 wins for the season....and that still seems likely.

We don’t need any WR’s. You drafted Cain. We’re just hurting right now. Don’t blame you for being upset, but relax man!
If your WR group sucks due to a 6th rd rookie pick getting injured....your WR group wasn't that good to begin with.

If your plan is to not sign any significant FA's and you want to build via the draft -- it would help if you draft a whole lot better than the Colts did in 2017....not much to show for their 2nd/3rd/4th rd picks.

Yikes...just start Brissett. Luck may get killed with that likely OLine.
-
This will likely work out really well for NE -- or he will really * off the coaches / Brady and be released within a few weeks.
There was no way the Colts were going to go after him.

Picks #1,4,33 and 35 hmmmm. I may have jumped on that deal.
I don't know if that was the actual offer, but if it were I'd have taken it in a heart beat...….
I love Luck, but man they could have filled a whole lot of holes will all those picks.

Much more likely to be 7-9 then 9-7...….
Even 7 wins is likely optimistic....especially since 1-4 to start is now a real possibility.

Cincy wins 24-20

Dumb move to dump Simon....oh well, maybe they can draft a stud DE with their top 3 pick next April.
-
They should be looking at pretty much every position except for: QB, K/P and TE this team has a lot of holes that they should be looking to fill.

Luck is going to be fine all this done and gloom?!
Guessing lots of people thought the same thing a year ago....how’d that work out?

Wake me when he actually throws a football....he's been close before and after 18 months, I don't care if he's close....just that he can actually do it at an NFL QB level.

Yes it was....but today proved they still have plenty of areas to improve.
Ballaed needs another good draft and to spend some cap space on difference makers.
