  1. Well... I discovered that I they will time me out if I start picking my game too early. I start it then put it on pause to watch later. I lost the Lions/Cowboys link and had to watch the Steelers. I was so tired I slept through all of it. We had our 3 year old grandson here for 4 days and he left yesterday, LOL! So I haven't watched anything yet :-)

I think I'll wait until tomorrow on all games so I can actually be awake and paying attention.

I saw the Colts lost, it looked like it was close for a long time.... bummer.

  2. Thanks guys! I appreciate the fast answers. I have queued up 2 games. One on Firefox and one on explorer. Since the games have no commercials they're shorter - around 2 hours so I can watch both in the time of the 1 game. Then I can watch the Colts game later tonight or tomorrow.

Told my hubby "No matter what ANY one says, I am NOT a football addict!" ;-)

  3. I'm not in the slightest surprised they're not doing well. I said so in the preseason. I can't think of any team in the NFL that's been bought for a season that's lived up to the hype. When a single player is brought in like Favre was it has a chance of working, but bringing in that much ego, spending that much money and expecting them to gel as a TEAM in a short preseason like this one was... FAT CHANCE!

  4. I don't have TV so I watch my games on NFL rewind. I discovered that if I start a game before the Monday Night Football starts I can watch it during that game (they black out NFL rewind during that time). So I want to get 2 games going, one on each computer, to watch tonight. Which should they be?

  5. Bummer... but can't say I'm shocked or surprised. I think he was helpful in bringing the other guys up a notch in intensity while he was here along with Takeo Spikes.

Soooooo sick of the injury bug - this is 3 years straight we've had a ridiculous run of decimating injuries.

  6. Hmmmm.... I looked through this whole thread and no comments from "Patsallday" They were very vocal last week after the SD Pat game about teams that turn the ball over 4 times:

"View PostGirlzarefanstoo, on 19 September 2011 - 12:18 PM, said:

So what part of "and we gave them the ball 4 times" was wrong - I believe that = 4 turnovers?

the "we should have won" part.

    i bolded it.

no team "should" win turning the ball over 4 times."

    Interesting the silence ;-)

I thought the Patriot turnovers were a lot like ours, sometimes a lack of concentration, sometimes weird circumstances. By the end of the game it was obvious that Brady was rattled/frustrated. I thought that the interceptions were about 50/50 Brady's fault. ie If a pass hits off a lineman's helmet it was thrown too low.

The Bills were at home and the energy of the crowd really made the difference in this game. I'm not sure the outcome would have been the same in the Pat's stadium. I came away thinking that Buffalo is for real - for right now. Not sure they'll have the depth to have the staying power for the entire season but I sure enjoyed the game.

  7. I have to say that whether or not it's against my team, I'm on the side of protecting QBs. They make all the difference in the world in the game - no player on either side of the ball is as exciting to watch.

So, I have no problem with either of the fines.

  8. Get used to it. That's what happened here. Did you notice if he was hurt during the game at all?

Many times here, he would play and finish the game and look fine. Then strangely appear on the injury report and miss weeks at a time with a knee injury. He's had the knee cut on at least 3 times and the problem here normally was uncontrollable swelling after games and practices.

But i'll be honest, i'm shocked he made it 2 games.

I do not remember any play that he got hurt on to be honest. We'll see. For us it was a low-risk pickup for a potentially great player who has already had a significant impact in the locker room and with the team. Sure hope it's nothing, but I imagine you've said that about 100 times...

  9. Wow, watching the disintegration of these boards this season has been really sad. I've come here for years because there's good discussion of FOOTBALL - lots of people with great insights and observations. Often some of the most clear-headed and non-homerish discussions have happened here and I've really enjoyed participating.

To those that can only lament how awful the team is and how there's not a single good thing about it and "we might as well lose all our games to get first choice" maybe just refrain from posting? You're just succeeding in spreading your depression around and not accomplishing anything helpful at all. Yes, you have a right to post, but do you need to? Do we need ANOTHER "the sky is falling" post? Really?!!!

I can't comment on yesterday's game because I didn't get a chance to watch it yet, but I'm not going to be surprised that lots of weak areas show up. When you take a spark plug out of the engine, it doesn't perform very well, but it will run. When you take the distributor cap off it doesn't function at all - PM is the distributor cap. This team is going to have to figure out how to create some sparks without him this year. That's going to take some time to work out.

  10. the "we should have won" part.

    i bolded it.

no team "should" win turning the ball over 4 times.

You didn't make that clear. I agree. We shouldn't have turned it over. If we didn't, we walk away with the game. We made mistakes - you didn't. Pretty simple. AND if you read my post, I'm saying what you're saying.

Try being as gracious in victory as I'm being in defeat - or is that impossible for a Pats fan ;-) ?

  11. Chargers shot themselves in the foot.

Also our linebackers need to learn how to cover...our our db's going to get owned all day.

Both team's D looks suspect because both team's offenses are so stacked. Tough to contain that many weapons and QBs that know how to use them.

One of the big differences I saw on D was the Patriot O-line's ability to give Brady all the time in the world and his ability to escape when almost taken down. Our O-line was less capable of containing the pressure. Every other part of our D gets better if our pass rush & D line pressure steps up the game.

  12. My Chargers will be an "elite" team when we stop giving up the ball and shooting ourselves in the foot. NE played flawless and we gave them the ball 4 times. Can't win a game like that. Some games you "beat yourselves" and sometimes the other team makes you beat yourself - this game was the later. NE deserved this game though we could have and should have won it.

Rivers was really off today - the pressure was part of it, but he just wasn't himself also. Pretty rare when you're used to watching him play.

Thought Brady's knee was going to be a goner on that one play, that was one lucky escape for him. He had all the time in the world and when he didn't and we almost nailed him he made it work. Hats off to the better team on this day.

  13. I think what he meant is that he's the best thrower, like how he throws the ball. He throws it extremely well, accurate and quick. I think that he could be the best thrower of the football, however, he is not in the top 10 for best quarterbacks of all time.

He's certainly a "pretty" thrower, it's a beautiful delivery, crisp, accurate etc. but best of all time has to cover a lot more than that AND for a long time.

  14. Why not San Diego? This fan and team huff and puff loyalty facade doesn't exist in a world of $$$. San Diego was willing to take a risk on Bob; would you expect Bob to say, "Oh, no I'm not going to sign with you...you're *gasp* the Chargers!"

San Diego is a contender, the Raiders aren't. Why would any football player not want to play somewhere that they have a chance at the playoffs and a winning team? Next to the $ the chance at victory is these guys deepest drive.

Oh... and don't think the Colts are the only people that whine about guys being let go and becoming stars elsewhere. San Diego - Wes Welker ring a bell for anyone?!

  15. Way to early to be speculating about him retiring. There's a lot of recovering to do before that becomes clear. The hand-wringing of all the analysts is a bit over much.

However, I want the team to be planning for every eventuality. You can't just hope for the best and not take practical steps to ensure continuity with or without Peyton. I broached this subject several times in the last couple of years and was pretty much laughed off with comments of how durable Peyton has been. There should have been a quality understudy in the wings the entire time Peyton has played. It's foolish not to have someone who is capable of taking over. Not to pour salt in a wound, but the Chargers' having Billy Volek ready to step in when Rivers went down in the playoff game wasn't an accident of fate. They are prepared for that possibility and have a better chance of holding on to their league position in a worst case scenario because of it.

That said, I would be one that totally wants Peyton to make the decision with his entire life ahead of him in mind. My husband has a terrible back injury which is work-related and happened a couple of years ago. The long term impact of an injury like Peyton's is a miserable prospect. I just hope he is wise enough to be able to put things into perspective for the rest of his life. Football glory isn't worth living a with a diminished capacity.

  16. He did. Spikes looked great, too! Hopefully the Defense will be able to cause Brady some headaches next week.

Man, that opening kick off return made me feel like I had entered the twilight zone and was back at the start of last season. As to watching the D, I watched the game on NFL Rewind and finished at 2 AM so I won't say I had my best observing powers available, but every time I looked up that pair was climbing off of the pile. I loved the way we swarmed to the ball. After eating my heart the first half it was fun to watch the D second half.

  17. WOW... as a fan of the NFL, the game is diminished without Peyton in it. I hope he can come back this year and that the Colts can keep themselves in it until he does.

As a Charger fan, if we face you in the playoffs we really want it to be with PM at the helm so it means more.

As a Colt's fan I'm very saddened for Peyton, the team and the fans. It's so hard to lose a Hall of Fame caliber player who is so crucial to the entire team's makeup.

  18. I find the whole premise of "throwing the season" to be utterly nauseating. Do the people that hold that opinion think that to do so wouldn't damage and/or destroy the team spirit for years to follow? You work hard to fight to overcome and win - not to shamefully lay down.

With our without Peyton, I expect the Colts to bring what ever they're made of to the stadium every week and give it their all.

Probably would be good if the fans did so too... just sayin'

  19. Leaving Michael Vick and getting back to the topic at hand, it wasn't the worst thing in the world when Denver won the SB in San Diego, but it was close. However, when the Raiders tried I would have curled up into a ball and died if they'd won it in our house. The hatred runs deep for the Raiders (though it has subsided to severe pity over the years).

I just think hosting the SB in general and not being a part of the festivities stinks... period...

  20. I'm not one to give it any credence. Which isn't to say I'm not concerned and that he might not play this season, just that this report isn't credible to me.

    This was posted on nfl.com:

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d82209234/article/colts-owner-refutes-radio-report-of-second-manning-surgery?module=HP11_headline_stack

"Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay shot down a Wednesday radio report that quarterback Peyton Manning had another procedure performed on his neck.

Jake Query, a radio host for WNDE-AM in Indianapolis, tweeted early in the day that Manning would miss the season, adding in another post "I was also told the 3rd procedure has taken place, either Sun or Monday."

That prompted a response from Irsay in the evening.

"Peyton didn't have a medical procedure last sunday,we'll have more info 2 add clarity 2 situation soon," Irsay tweeted.

The Colts announced Wednesday that Manning will miss Sunday's season opener against the Houston Texans as he tries to recover from neck surgery he had in May. That means Manning's streak of 227 consecutive starts will end."
