Cooter would actually be calling the plays in Philly like he did a few years back with the Lions. Nick is hc in Philly but doesn't call the plays. Here in Indy Cooter is oc by title and helps with the overall offensive game plan but Shane calls the plays.

This is a little interesting to me though. Would Shane feel some type of gratitude to Nick for allowing him to shine in Philly by hiring him as Philly's oc a couple of years back? Could Shane block the move? Yes but I believe he will allow Jim Bob to make his own decision concerning his future. Shane runs the show on offense anyway and is probably confident enough with his current staff to promote someone from within like the qb coach.

    Ok thanks for that info.

So cooter would want the position because it entails calling plays and calling plays is a stepping stone to being a HC.

I don't see cooter as irreplaceable since he doesn't call plays here.

Shane may just let him go as a favor to sirriani.

He did? I'm looking at his athletic numbers, they don't seem like they would produce poor RAS.

    4.45 40...

    6.79 3cone!!!!

37.5" vertical and 10'5" broad jump?

    All this at 6'4" 215lbs...

If I had to guess this would produce RAS above 9... maybe even above 9.5?

Edit: just found it... it's indeed above 9.5:

    I was joking lol !!

Lions. Would love to see the Lions go as far as they can. All of us at work would say “at least we aren’t Lions fans” the past few years as the Colts struggled.  We all kind of started following the Lions as a joke and now cheering for them. It’s a good story this year and hope they can handle the pressure the next few years when they are expected to compete for championships.

49ers. I think they might be the eventual SB champs. Great roster and organization from top to bottom. They will have their hands full the rest of the way so can see them getting upset. Still, I think they are the most talented and best coached team remaining.

Texans. I applaud their success after trading away their franchise QB in their prime. Stroud had a great rookie year and they over achieved by a lot. The roster isn’t even near complete so they do have a ways to go. Saying that, Ravens will probably handle them bc they are the much better team.

Finally, the Bills. This is the year to get the monkey off their back and beat the Chiefs. They got hot just in time to save their season and I hope they can keep it going. First road game in the playoffs for Mahomes but I promise that team will come prepared. Should be the game to watch this weekend.

    My picks as well.

Hoping the Texans win to inspire AR and put the eye of the tiger in him.

I can't stand the chiefs so Go Bills !

I like the Lions and GB too

I’ve shared this story recently but it’s worth repeating.    At about the midway point of the season PFF put out a ranking of GMs.  They ranked Ballard 14th.   I don’t think anyone here complained.  No Ballard supporter said he was top-5, or even top-10.   I’m as big a Ballard supporter as there is here, and I called it fair and not unreasonable.

So it seems you’re upset that there isn’t an outpouring of complaints, you want more posters screaming for Ballard’s head.   You see this year as a down year because the Colts didn’t beat Houston.  You don’t see this as a great year because we nearly reached the playoffs using our backup QB for about 75 percent of the season.

I just don’t see any White Knighting going on.   Ballard is tied to AR and so he likely has 2-3 years to show what he can become.   If he doesn’t pan out, Ballard is done.  But if AR becomes the QB most want him to be, then Ballard will be safe.

    I think you’ve dramatically over-stated your case.

I would say 15-20.  He's not great but not bad enough to be fired.

15-20 equals a 9-8 record.  He's a middle of the pack GM and the Colts are a middle of the pack team.

Regardless of my opinion, I think its worth posting again that he is tied to AR, hence the "reset" some other posters mention.

Ballard has his work cut out for him.  He has to give AR weapons like AJ Brown and Devante Smith. Fix the oline, find a pass rusher etc.

My hope is that Steichen has alot of input in the draft and Shane can really look at players and find some good ones.  Steichen had alot to do with the eagles rebuild at least on the offensive side of the ball.

Has it ever occurred to anyone that perhaps Ballard leans on RAS scores so much because he can't truly evaluate good players ?

  6. If irsay has fallen off the wagon I hope he gets the help he needs to get back on the wagon.

He'll need a strong support system from his daughters or family.

Is he married? Perhaps a wife would make him feel better.

I also recommend he gives up the rock n roll life style. A bunch of rock n roll people are the last people a reformed alcoholic needs to hang out with.

Ballard 3-2-1 against Caserio head to head…

one had a higher draft pick last year, with both taking qbs. Both teams had the same type of turnaround, except one had their drafted qb on IR and the other’s played mvp level. Division came down to a head-to-head matchup and the Texans won on a 4th down stop.

If I didn’t know any better, I would think you were being sarcastic, but you aren’t. You are totally serious and think you are “reasonable” to think Caserio runs circles around Ballard. lol.

Caserio is kicking turtle ballards *.

Sorry if that disrupts your sense of this world.

I see another 9-8 season coming under turtle Ballard

I feel like a Turtle waiting for Turtle Ballard to do something.

    Anything

What you say is true, but teams and players deal with this every year.   This is the system that owners and players have set up to govern themselves.  Everyone voted on it.

    What can I tell you?

You don't need to tell me anything.

I would like you to start supporting the workers instead of being a shill for management

    Are there any other questions?

What problem could there be?   If they can’t come to terms on a multiyear deal, the Colts will tag Pitt for a year.  Problem solved.

The problem is solved for the Colts but not Pittman.

If Pittman has a serious knee injury during his franchise year his career could be over.

There is no security for the player with a FT

Jared….   I don’t think you’ll get your wish about Ballard getting one more year.  I think he’s tied to AR, and as long as the kid shows progress, I think CB is safe, up to a point.

I think Ballard gets at least two more years.  At that point, we will all know more about AR and if he’s the future of the Colts.  If AR is the future, I think CB is safe, if not I think the Ballard era will end.

    On this we agree.

Ballard is tied to the success of AR.  If AR is a bust, Ballard will be fired.  If AR is a huge success, Ballard will get several more years.

But Ballard has his work cut out for him in next year's draft and FA period.

I suggest he follow the Eagles template and I'm hoping Shane throws some of his weight around having influence on picks and free agents.

    Ballard will have to;

    - Find two number 1 receivers like AJ Brown and Devante Smith.  Is Pittman one of the number 1's ?

    - Fix the Oline or the tackle position.  Should we be drafting Kelly's replacement ?  He only has one year on his contract.

    - Get a great pass rusher

    - Get a good backup RB

Ballard has to do everything in his power to help AR be successful.

The last thing we want is the Oline collapsing and our receivers can't get separation and AR takes off running.

Too much running leads to the injuries.

Smart teams draft quarterbacks. The Ravens drafted Lamar Jackson when they did not need it. The Patriots drafted Jimmy G and Brissett when he had Brady. Dallas drafted Dak when they had Romo. Seattle drafted Wilson when they just gave Flynn lots of money to be their QB. It happens a lot.

I thought for sure Minny was going to draft levis

Matt LaFleur deserves credit for doing something you don’t see much of anymore showing patience and sitting your young Quarterback and developing him until he is ready for prime time.

Unfortunately first game losing pick AR throws next season Colts fans will be calling to cut him

I’m just observing the pattern Ballard isn’t moving up even for a critical position such as QB, even later in Round 1 when it won’t cost much. Anyways, let’s enjoy the game

    Another dart by Love, wow!!!

You're right. Ballard is too conservative.
