  1. If it is a 2yr extension with $20m signing bonus(might just be guaranteed not SB?)

    2019 Cap Hit: $8.7m

    2020 Cap Hit: $12.1m

    2021 Cap Hit: $12.2m

Something like that. Still think it's goong to be new deal.

    2019: $15m(guaranteed)

    2020: $15m($5m guaranteed)

Possible it is actually three years if you count this year. He is getting 20m Guaranteed so I could see his base salary staying at 2m.

    Maybe?

Have to wait for final details. If so that's a solid deal for us.

    3yr $32m deal.

Doubt that is the case, but possible.

I typed that, before seeing that it was a two year extension. Looks easy enough to get out of, and is not long term. I'm cool with it.

Im sure it is a new deal. Not 2 year extension. Meaning it is in effect for 2019 and 2020. Be a FA in 2021?

Maybe though. Cant imagine their paying him $1m this season still.

  4. Hopefully the Colts came at him with an team friendly extension(3yr $30-$36m) and he turned it down?

I would love for him to playout the final year and earn the money. Hopefully thats what ends up happening, but as I've mentioned all day, I would much rather give him a raise this year than gamble future dollars on an unknown. Still feel like he will be getting a raise either way.

I don't think we will have a problem signing him to a new deal if he performs well.

  5. It's definitely a conundrum.

Extend him for $20-$25m and he balls out. Will be a great deal.

Extend him for $20-$25m and he doesn't live up to expectations and you are spending 8% of cap space on a QB who isn't the future.

Not sure what will happen. I'm sure he will be getting more money for sure. Pay raise or extension? Idk? Rooting for raise at this point.

I'm sure if JB sees that in good faith we gave him more money(this year), when we didn't HAVE to. If he plays good and we want to extend him, he will feel good about it. Push comes to shove we could Transition tag him if need be.

Better than being on the hook for $30-$40m over next couple years without knowing how he is going to play.

I think that is probably what works best for JB as well. He could agree to a 3yr $60m deal and if he balls out he will be making less than he should.

Makes sense to use this season as a measuring stick for a contract.

The interesting thing about Chad Kelly is...

No decision really has to be made for about three weeks.

They can just sit back and let the whole QB situation unfold.

Then decide what direction they want to move with Kelly after week two is in the books.

Who know what the team may look like then?

Suspension ends up working out good for us in that aspect.

Here is an interesting thought....Who would surprise this fan base more  if they started and played real good Hoyer or Kelly ?

    Hoyer

I don't expect much on the field from him.

    Kelly has some potential.

If we ever have to go beyond Jacoby which (at least at this exact point in time ) I hope we do not have to ….I think it is going to be very very interesting to see if they go to Hoyer or Kelly .

Probably depend what our record is.

You have to see what you have in CK though at some point(if JB goes down)

I have to doubt they envision Hoyer as the possible starter for 2020.

Like I posted somewhere else earlier today. I don't think they have any intention of him starting at all unless JB gets hurt in week 1 or 2.

If JB does get hurt, I look for Kelly to start with Hoyer backing him up.

At that point you have to see what you have in Kelly the rest of the year.

    :sigh:

I don't know what there is to sigh about?

I hope he plays out his rookie deal to. Just don't think the Colts are going to do that. Colts take care of their guys, just don't see them letting JB go into the season making less than his backup, that they hope doesn't play.

So the best of 2 options, IMO, is a raise this year and no extension.

So you don't think he'll play as well as he could this year because he's still getting his rookie salary?

Remember, if he plays extremely well without your raise, he still looks to get a great contract next year, right?

Has nothing to do with that. I suspect he will perform the same either way.

    Time will tell.

I would just rather give him a raise this year and see what it is w/o investing future money into a question mark.

Okay, you lost me on that last sentence.  How do the Colts benefit by giving a contracted player more money for...well...not exactly sure what for?  Playing in his contract??

Straight raise benefits the Colts, because they don't have to give any future money w/o knowing if he is capable.

He will be getting more money this year 1 way or another. Raise or extension.

Suspect that news will be coming within next couple days.

    Sounds like a Texans move.

Not to mention that wasn't close to the 13 million dollar raise you're suggesting

Brissett is going to be a starting QB. Not an aging CB.

Like I've said $15m is well under starting QB $.

They vert well could do an extension, I just don't think it benefits either side. Straight raise for 1 season make sense for both.

He might get more money,   but not without an extension.

I answered you in post above, but I'm curious to hear what you think the numbers would look like on a 3 year extension?

I think 3yr $60m would be the floor? Are you willing to fork that over without knowing what he is capable of?

  15. 43 minutes ago, jvan1973 said:

They aren't going to give him more money without adding years.

What reason is there to add more years? We don't know how he will perform.

They very well could give him a 1-2year extension? I think showing good faith and giving him some more money this year and see what happens is the way to go.

So, if  Luck had played, but got hurt for the season, we'd have to give JB a new contract, since was signed as a backup in his current one????

Going to assume you are talking to me.?

    Totally different circumstances.

Fact is, we have named JB the starter before the season started. Should be paid a lot better than he is currently. Even at $15m, that is well below starter money.

If Luck would of played and got hurt, it would not be necessary to give JB more money in that instance.

    That's not the case.

I understand this should probably go in another thread, but if I were Luck I would insist on giving the money back.  How do you just keep money that you didn't earn?  I understand it is awkward to ask for the money back (if you're Irsay), but isn't just as awkward not to insist on giving it back?

Not that simple. Luck could of said he couldn't play and forced them to put him on IR which would mean we would of owed him over $30m this year.
