  1. I'm glad the Colts were able to sign Chad to the practice squad and I look forward to seeing what's next for him. But, I don't think the Chad Fan Club should take any shots about what they have or haven't heard about Jacoby's intelligence when there's so much to be heard about Swaaag.

If you knew Chad, this is a pretty normal night/behavior for him. He's just an idio t, plain and simple. He has the world by the nuts thanks to his uncle and he can't keep his nose clean. Literally and figuratively.

To me, since i've been a fan of the Colts since 1998, we've had great QB play and the games have been exciting. Suddenly, right when we have the best GM in the league and possible SB hopes, Luck retires, we have a boring QB that is probably bottom 5 in the league and we're just going to be an 8-8 team that loses to every good team. Kelly is somewhat insurance and I don't want to lose him. These first two games have completely took the wind out of my sails regarding Brissett.

Well, if the quarterback play isn't up to your standards, you should absolutely give up on the team immediately and assume they'll never win a big game. Great call. Maybe you'd find the Patriots more interesting.

Ballard may know he can get Kelly on the practice squad, but this whole QB thing is really bad now. We may lose Kelly, Hoyer is complete garbage if he has to start, and I'm quickly becoming disinterested in the Colts with Brissett as QB. Not Ballard's fault at all, but I would think we would have to draft a QB next year in the 1st or 2nd round.

The Colts first two games have both been exciting, close games on the road against good teams. Can't understand why a fan of the team would be disinterested. I'm very interested to see how this team progresses. Also, when a so-called fan calls a Colts player garbage, it generally says more about the fan than the player, in my opinion.

They think Kelly will clear waives not because he's not wanted.    But because they've waited to the last minute.    Rosters for this week are mostly set.   Most teams won't want to make a move on a QB on a Thursday.      They might.    But the odds are better than if they had made their move public on Monday or Tuesday.

    Smart,  strategic thinking.

But wouldn't this probably mean another team would pick him up in the next week or two anyway? What's the point then? That the Colts can still add him to the 53 later or that they have him in case Brissett gets hurt Sunday?

  5. Some of the Kelly fans ought to love this take:

Colts waive Chad Kelly in unsurprising move

    Quote

Kelly isn’t good enough to be a starter in this league, and his viability as a backup is questionable too because of his off the field issues. He can’t stay on the field because he makes bad decisions off of it. That’s part of the reason the Colts moved on from him.

When he did play in the preseason, Kelly wasn’t too bad. He showed some moments with his arm and his legs. But it wasn’t good enough to overcome the myriad of other issues. He doesn’t have elite arm strength, and his decision making was suspect at times as well.

Kelly might have played well enough in preseason to get onto a practice squad. His ceiling might even be a backup somewhere. But the fact that some people said he should be a starter is insane.

  6. This is an unusual situation. A 25-year-old  who seems to have the talent to get the job done, but because of a history of getting in trouble that has repeatedly delayed his progress through college and the start of this pro career doesn't yet have any pass attempts in an NFL regulation game. Can you think of any quarterback who at age 25 didn't have a single NFL pass attempt, yet went on to a successful career?

Only 5 teams had fewer yards than we did.

The offense would be one hell of a lot better with a more effective QB. JB isn’t the answer. Great dude. Great teammate. Great leader. Average to below average QB.

We aren’t winning a playoff game with JB.

But should the Colts trust a dude who calls himself Swag, full of talent, yet at age 25 hasn't even thrown his first pass in an NFL regular season game?

I Made This Mistake of Trusting A Guy Known has Swag Kelly

By: Tully Corcoran | October 23, 2018 1:19 pm ET

"Boy oh boy do I have egg on my face now. Since before this season even started, I’ve been banging the drum for Chad Kelly to be the starting quarterback in Denver.

He looked great in the preseason!

On Sept. 18, I wrote that it was going to be Chad “Swag” Kelly time in six weeks. Multiple people tried to warn me not to write that column.

“Never trust a juco guy,” they said.

“The guy goes by ‘Swag’, dude,” they said. “It’s not going to work out.”

But I was a juco guy. I couldn’t turn my back on one of my own. Besides, what does a nickname have to do with anything? It was all lined up. Keenum was throwing more interceptions than touchdowns and the media and fans were talking more and more about Kelly. Hell, a radio station in Denver asked to interview me on the air about this.

And I’d like to point out that technically speaking I was right when I said we were six weeks from Swag Kelly time. I just didn’t realize I was talking about time behind bars.

    https://thebiglead.com/2018/10/23/i-made-this-mistake-of-trusting-a-guy-known-as-swag-kelly/

He Does Bring a Different Type of Swag!

"I have it all. I might not have the same mojo as your basic quarterback, but I feel like I bring a different type of swag to the team and the players around me," Kelly told MMQB. "I have friends all across that field. When I go out there on the field, I play with a different attitude that you usually don't see in a quarterback. I play with a swag they've never seen before."

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000728175/article/ole-miss-chad-kelly-draft-me-for-my-swag

Swag has a rap song about himself!

At 0:42: "My momma birthed out a winner. I'm just looking for dinner!"

Laugh if you like...but Kelly has more natural QB ability than Brissett has or ever will have.

So you're leaving open the possibility . . . that Brissett will have more natural QB ability in the future than he does currently?

YALL have anointed Mack as the next Zeke.

     Ezekiel Elliott, Year 2 (2017), 22 years old, 98.3 ypg, 4.1 ypc

    Marlon Mack, Year 2 (2018), 22 years old, 75.7 ypg, 4.7 ypc

Not so different in Year 2 except that Mack, while he had more yards per carry, had only 195 carries and Elliott had 242. Let's see how Mack does this year as compared to Elliott's Year 3 (2018) stats of 95.6 ypg and 4.7 ypc.

well I seen some one specifically say he's the next Tom Brady lol also have seen quite a few say he can be just as good as Luck both are pretty dumb considering he hasn't really done a damn thing. I support him as well cause if hes good we can continue to draft other positions and keep building the roster but some need to slow the hell down they are buying into the media hype too much.

Show us the post where somebody said JB is the next Tom Brady. That never happened.

support is one thing being a fool and claiming that he can be the next Aaron Rodgers is dumb and yes that was actually posted here before. so far I've seen different posters compare him to Andrew Luck Aaron Rodgers Ben Roethlisberger Kurt Warner and Tom Brady YES Tom Brady.

hell just the other day had someone say they would rather have JB in certain situations than healthy Luck haha

I would like to see the post where someone supposedly said JB can be the next Aaron Rodgers. I think you are twisting words and don't believe you.

    1) 908 last year....and he already has 174? I almost feel guilty. Ya, I'll disagree with you on this one.

    2) He has averaged less than 3/100 yd games and 9/50 yd games per year over the last two years, so this is not much of a risk for you to declare. Colts are not a one back style offense so this declaration has no teeth.

    3) Obiwan Jacoby threw for 3100 yds as part of a mash unit o-line. I'll take that bet. 3500 is right about where I expect him to end up.

    4) Slightly less? talk about hedging your bets. I'll be the clear one here and say 20% more TD's than int's.

    5) You expect this defense to drop at least 5 spots from last year? I'll take that bet too.

    6) 6/100 yd games? They gave up 10 last year and ended 10th on the list for defenses. That is a sucker bet that has little risk on your part.

    7) No, barring injury, Hines will not have more yards.

    8) Colts continue to beat the Titans.

Regarding #2 -- If you take Mack's last six games, including the two playoff games last year and this year's season opener, he has been over 100 four times and under 50 twice. If he and the oline stay relatively healthy, I think he'll be over 100 more often than under 50.  https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/gamelog/_/id/3139605/type/nfl/year/2018

Also, Hines has been over 20 yards once during those seven games, so I'm not sure he's going to outrush Brissett, let alone Mack.

That's a super knee jerk take on Eberflus by Bowen.

He probably saying that tongue in cheek, I believe. I think he's saying that if JB plays that way, he doesn't think the Colts will be 6-10 -- unless the defense is surprisingly atrocious.  It's not really a comment about his thoughts on Eberflus.

Mariota is comparable to Jacoby in some ways.  they both are efficient and protect the ball but they have 3000 yard seasons when the good qbs are getting 4500 .

Which seasons of Jacoby's are you basing your judgement on?

I'd like both a vet QB and Kelly, also, but I don't like the idea of cutting two guys from what looks like a good roster of 53 to make it happen.

It could turn out that Kelly replaces on the roster, depending on position, somebody who gets injured during Week 1 or 2.

  16. 2 minutes ago, Colts_Fan12 said:

well they didnt cut him for a reason Frank is the one talking about him in the highest regard

So why are you concerned about the Colts putting him on the practice squad where they know any other team could sign him? Frank seems pretty sharp to me and very much on the same page as Chris Ballard. If Frank wants to keep Kelly, I bet they keep Kelly. That doesn't mean they shouldn't bring in somebody more experienced if they're not sure Kelly is ready for starting job and the spotlight that comes with it should Brissett get hurt or struggle in the starting role.

its blowing my mind how people are not realizing this lol

You know, if the Colts think he's that good - and Frank Reich watches him everyday and probably knows something about NFL quarterbacks - they'll put him on the 53-man roster.  I don't always believe in the management of a pro sports team, but I trust Ballard and Reich to decide the best way to handle any Chad Kelly decisions.

no they didnt, a 2 game suspension is not a huge deal.  would have been much more if he did something really bad

he got a trespassing charge which was dropped.

Kelly put up impressive statistics in college, but he fell to the final pick of the 2017 NFL draft in part because of character concerns. He was dismissed from Clemson’s program for conduct detrimental to the team, spent a year at a junior college and then, shortly after committing to Ole Miss, was arrested for his role in an altercation at a Buffalo nightclub. Then, in the NFL, he got arrested again and released by the Broncos. Slow learner. Hope he has learned this time, but too early to say, I think.

there will be no expectations for this team if that happens.  the main goal in that case will be just find a QB

No. The main goal would be to find the best quarterback they can at that point. They may or may not think Chad Kelly is that guy.

they are the ones that brought him in here to begin with, i think its fair to say they see something in CK.  Hoyer is a free agent, wouldnt be mad if we bring him in

They bring in lots of players who don't end up on the roster. I really like what we've seen from Kelly, but we, as fans, have no idea what the team thinks of his maturity or ability to lead the offense this season if Brissett were to go down.

  21. I sure hope it wasn't only because Reich wanted one of his guys. 2017 - 56 sacks and team average of 3.7 yards per carry. 2018 - 18 sacks and team average of 4.2 yards per carry.  Maybe the most improved unit of any position in the league.
