    Agreed.

I think some of the second read stuff is by design.  Because maybe the Qb does not have the arm to make all of the throws to those 4 receivers running 4 different patterns anyway, they are coached to take off when they feel pressure.  Others are coached to hang in there and make the throw while taking their hits in the pocket instead of on the hoof.

But a guy like Levis, who can also run, should probably bail out earlier than he did last night.  Hanging in there too long was a weakness shown in college.

This is similar to what T.J. Watt said after the game.

    Quote

After the game, Amazon's broadcast crew asked Watt what he saw from the rookie quarterback.

"A lot of toughness," Watt responded. "A guy that's gonna hang in there, take the hits and deliver some really good passes. He held onto it a little bit tonight, but he was able to escape with his feet and extend some plays, and I think he's going to have a good career."

  2. Winnable. The Panthers have a good pass defense but bad rush defense so I'm hoping for a big day from Taylor and Moss. Our o-line injuries do concern me a bit there. I didn't watch the last Panthers game, but read that Young is playing better. Will be interesting to see how the Colts D fares against him.

Our ace in the hole is Frank passing up field goals and going for it on fourth down. Bryce Young up the middle. Stuffed. 😆

I never said Levis played badly. I said average based on everything I seen, if you think he played good I am fine with it, that is your opinion. All I know is AR is our QB and nothing is going to change that so people whining about us drafting AR does no good.

So if somebody questions whether AR will be successful, that's whining? Why?

If you say Richardson is going to be extremely successful, does that do good? Does it help anything?

I never understand why some fans think that a positive opinion of their team or its players is better than a less positive one.

I agree with those who say all of these rookie quarterbacks have looked generally promising so far. There are also still questions about all of them. I'm more likely to discuss the questions about Richardson, as well as his strengths, since he plays for the team I've been following for 30 years. But whether I say he's going to be great, he's going to be lousy or anywhere in between, I recognize my opinion doesn't matter one way or the other and doesn't really do any good either way. It's just an opinion to discuss with fellow fans.

A QB like Josh Allen could get injured just as easily because of his style and I don't consider him a running QB. Allen has actually been dinged up the last 2 seasons. Did you consider Luck a running QB?

Luck ran well but he wasn't a running QB. I just looked up the stats on this and they kind of blew me away. In his 86 games played over six seasons in the NFL, Luck NEVER had 10 or more carries in a game. Also, Luck came into the NFL as one of the most successful passers in college football history.

Richardson is a running QB who has shown some promise as a passer but still needs to improve. In four games (really two full games), Richardson has carried the ball 10 times twice already.

AR should only run when it’s truly necessary. I only want to see him run in a close game and playoffs. We have good backs at the moment

How effective would he be as a quarterback who only runs when it's truly necessary? The threat of running at any moment on every play changes the defense. If you take that away and he becomes more of a standard pocket passer, is he ever going to be above average in doing that?

No chance in hell I would trade Richardson for Levis.  And there's no question who has the higher upside between the two. I trust Steichen to be able to coach up Richardson and get the best out of him which should be better than a 2nd round pick QB in Levis. There's a reason why the entire league passed on him in the 1st round and I trust the majority of the league on this.

Have you watched either of Levis' first two games? I saw the one last night and he didn't play like a second round pick.

I really like Richardson and desperately hope he succeeds, but he still feels like a bit of an uncertain gamble to me.

It's hard to evaluate Ballard with our coaching history being so bad. Our player development is terrible. This is not to say the Ballard is a good or great GM. We just can't make that judgement.

It's his job to hire, fire, and supervise the head coach. He's accountable for the coaching staff performance. You can argue that Frank wasn't wholly his choice but that's only because he tried and failed to hire McDaniel and then went along with hiring Frank instead of somebody else. Once they hired him, it was Ballard's job to make it work. If he didn't approve of the job Frank and his staff were doing in previous seasons, he should have done something about it.

Again, seems people buying into injury prone narratives.  Generally poor to do but especially off a small NFL sample size.  Saw more from Richardson than Levis in their two small sample sizes.

anybody could miss a season at a moment’s notice.  Happened to Brady and Manning.  CMC was always hurt until he wasn’t.  Most here would’ve said CMC was someone to fade as he’s injury prone.  Since then, not missed a game and been a beast.

again, fade the injury prone narratives as they are generally not accurate takes

He's a running quarterback who so far seems like he may not be able to take many hits without getting injured. Of course the concern with running quarterbacks has always been that they tend to take more hits, get injured more often, and have shorter careers. It's a concern to some degree about every running quarterback, isn't it? But sure, no concern at all at this point about Richardson potentially being injury prone. It's just a narrative.

I want the Colts to figure out if Minshew can be a Franchise QB.  I want them to figure out really soon.  If Minshew isn't it then we need to hopefully draft top 5 next year and get an insurance policy for AR.  I don't think AR can make a comeback from this shoulder injury if he needs surgery.

Good news. They found out really soon.

     Let's go to clown school.

So if Rookie AR, 4 games in, had completed 7 more passes out of his 84 attempts he would be your Super Hero. That would give him a higher completion % than Mahomes. HAHAHA!

No. It's true that it's a small sample size and not that meaningful but the post I responded to cited Richardson's 59.5% completion percentage as evidence of how well he's played. That just isn't a good percentage anymore. Sure, it will hopefully improve and it's early in the season. But the league leaders are over 70% and 59,5% is 32nd best. It may not mean much but it still can't be used as evidence of how well he's played. That's all I'm saying.

For some reason there are a handful of people in here that don't realize how good AR has played. He is completing 59.5% of his passes which is technically 60%. He has 3 TD's passing - and only 1 INT and 1 fumble lost, and 4 Rushing TD's. He also led a monster comeback against the Rams, we did lose that game but still down 23-0 and he played flawlessly in that 2nd Half. Reminded me of Luck.

I've been impressed but that 59.5% is nothing to write home about.

This might shock people if you don't know this already but in the 37 games that Mustache has played in, he is completing 63% of his passes with 46 TD's, and only 15 INT's.

I'm not shocked by that. Those are decent numbers and Minshew has always looked pretty good to me. He looked really good in upsetting the Colts in their season opener a couple of years ago, right? He's above 68% completions so far this season, though, and needs to stay close to that. 63% is toward the bottom of the league these days.

I haven’t seen a single down of Young, but using ESPN, his QBR is 25 which is as bad as it gets and his passer rating is 75.  I don’t know what’s going on over there at all, but the notion that Reich produces bad QB numbers is an untenable position to take statistically.  Luck had the best year of his career under Reich, Wentz had a QBR 20 + points higher than the season before and the season after, Rivers had a major bounce back year with 2 bad ankles, and for a couple months, some deluded media types thought of Jacoby friggin Brissett as an MVP candidate.  Ryan sucked but he sucked way worse under ole Jeff and was clearly washed up.  Not a huge Reich guy but his system historically appears very QB friendly.

Frank has had success but I wonder if his coaching and concepts have fallen behind where the league is now. He seemed to be talking about a run-first approach to set up the passing game offense after that was out of vogue. And I wonder how much influence he had in the Colts picking big strong receivers instead of more dynamic ones. I don't think they'd have Josh Downs if he was still here and I'd bet the wr core will change and improve in the years ahead.

Don't you think the improvement in the offensive game plan and execution with the change in coaching has been apparent? Wouldn't Richardson be less effective in Frank's offense?

Really enjoyed it. Loved how Steichen used the same formation with the same pulling Q to get a QB run as well as a flat TD later to Ogletree. It is definitely obvious this team has the talent to compete, but like that double move Granson ran showed, like JT alluded to, if you have only so many playmakers, your options are limited.

Ballard would be really foolish to not give AR weapons next year. Like Chase for Burrow, Diggs for Allen, A J Brown for Hurts, that would take our push versus good teams to positive in the W-L column.

It's been interesting to hear JT talk not only about the Colts limited number of playmakers but also his critiques of Pittman. Not strong criticism but not praise either.

Based on performance  11 qbs have been better than Lawrence so far this year. Lamar Jackson, Brock purdy, baker mayfield,Goff, mahomes,Josh Allen, cousins, cj stroud,Russell wilson,Tua, herbert.

So he's off to a slower start this year than last and you're saying he's still rated 12th. That sounds like he's probably Top Ten -- or very close to it.

The qbs that sit are usually  because  they can't  handle  the adversity  of being  in the fire right away. Richardson  has shown he can handle  adversity. You don't  sit a guy that shows that.

OK. I don't think anybody is saying at this point that he shouldn't be playing. I just disagree with the argument that he can't learn anything outside of actually playing in a game. Richardson is learning all week every week. If the Colts were to reduce his playing time (I'm not saying they should), he would still keep learning and developing.
