I don't know who Keefer is maybe he's in the know but I don't think Wilkins or Moore start.  I'd prefer Wilkins but think we may play it safe and give Michael the start. Wilkins very well could still lead the RB's in touches. Moore will see some time  but think Walker is back at practice. If he can practice all week I think he starts. The rookie starters I see are Nelson and Leonard if Mack's the only guy out.  Turay may start now that he's healthy but it has been Hunt this preseason. Turay we see a lot of action either way.

I agree with all of this. With Walker back and I hope he can stay healthy, I wonder if we'll see Moore primarily on obvious passing situations.

That's such a strawman, if there was one.

I don't think it is a straw man. CrazyColt's argument is that unless you are with the players every day, and at training camp and at practices, there's no way you can judge what players should be cut. I didn't create a different argument, a straw man. I gave a more extreme example of the same argument. There are many ways you could potentially judge which players should be cut without being with them every day. You might have watched some of them throughout their careers leading up to this camp, might be a former or current coach or player who is a really good observer of preseason games, or maybe you just have a good sense from studying a number of sources; you just might have great insight about a starter on the team or about a bubble player. Of course, you may be very wrong, as well. I just don't accept the argument, though, that the only people allowed to have a valid or reasoned position on who should be cut are those who are with the players every day. Because GMs and coaches turn out to wrong some times, while fans and other educated followers sometimes turn out to be right.

I'm hopeful for a healthy season for Turay and year long growth. Would love to see him at 8 plus sacks this season.

I would love to see that. I just have trouble understanding his college career because he never had 8 plus sacks in a season at Rutgers. Was he somewhat injured most of the time or did he not rush the passer or what? His college high in sacks was 7.5 his freshman year and then he had 2, 2 and 4 his final three seasons. His senior year, he played in 12 games and had seven tackles for loss and four sacks (he did have 65 tackles, which seems like a good number for a DE); and he didn't even make Honorable Mention All-Big Ten. How is that possible? Is there anyone on here who watches Rutgers regularly?

Were you there with these players on a daily bases? Were you there during every training camp and practice?  Unless you were there, there is no way you can judge what players stay or go.

So if the Colts cut or otherwise got rid of Luck, Brissett, Hilton, Nelson, Braden Smith and Darius Leonard, there's no way anyone could judge that unless they were with the players on a daily basis?

  5. Ballard seems to be entirely invested in building for the future and eliminating veteran players that don't fit into that future, even if they are better than the players who will be their immediate replacements. That means a worse team this year, I think, and better drafting position. He better be extremely successful with his drafting or he'll be in trouble.

  6. I am generally impressed with Ballard and his approach, but some of these draft picks do concern me. Kemoko Turay seems like a high-risk, potentially high-reward pick who was somewhat injury prone in college, and him missing much of training camp is at least a little concerning to me. At Rutgers, he played 12, 8, 3 and 11 games during his four seasons (those are in order - fr, so, jr, sr years). He is credited with 7.5, 2, 2, and 3 sacks during those seasons.  He made All-Big Ten Honorable Mention as a freshman, but didn't make the Coaches or Media 1st, 2nd, or 3rd teams, or Honorable Mention as a soph, junior or senior.  Here are the results from last year, a lot of honorees, but no Turay: http://btn.com/2017/11/28/view-the-2017-all-big-ten-football-defensive-teams/ . He apparently has a ton of talent and I know the Colts loved his film, but the questionable durability combined with the lack of recognition by the conference coaches and media seem atypical for a second round pick.

that game could be played with multiple schools

Aww, I was just kidding around. I mean it's true, of course, that Jeffrey Dahmer and former Colts felon Art Schlichter went there, too, but I don't necessarily consider them entirely representative of all Buckeyes.

  8. Andrew Luck at running back with Brissett at QB.

    And/Or:

Andrew Luck at right tackle with Brissett at QB.

I would suggest that Luck might also be an improvement at strong side linebacker, but some of you might think I was getting a little ridiculous at the point.

I don’t know why you think I’m the one who doesn’t understand the difference?

I just explained it to you.   You chose to ignore it.     So I’ll try again.    In football terms,  speed  is one direction — forward.    Quickness is all directions.  Left, right, forward and back.

The fact the some sprinters are great for 40 yards, but can’t maintain it for 100 yards is NOT the difference between being quick and fast.   That’s a complete lack of understanding.

As is the notion that you have multiple friends who ran in multiple Olympics, who, according to you, were “maybe 4.5 guys.”    Im sorry,  but whether you believe it or not,  it’s 100 percent false.   Not even a little bit true.

So at this point you and I are going to have to agree to disagree.   We see this differently.

    Good luck to you....

I think that besides football quickness being in all directions, it is also defined as being a player's first step quickness, which is obviously a lot shorter than 40 yards. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000438263/article/football-speed-developing-firststep-quickness

How about we just wait and see how he does during actual games.

Yes! And, on the bright side, there's been all this worry about a few fumbled punts, but punt returns may turn out to not even be a thing with the way the Colts first-string defense plays against the run.

I don't think anybody's giving up on this draft class. I actually think it'll be a good class for the most part. People are just explaining how they thought it could've been knocked out of the park or even a historic class. And that was always the thing being said leading up to the draft by everybody here, that this class could be a real home run. Plus it's not like the guys being mentioned (Landry, Jackson, Williams) would've been good picks only in hindsight, they were all very highly regarded.

And who knows, it very well could be. We won't know until we know. I really like Nelson, loved the Leonard and Wilkins picks, and I think Smith could eventually be a decent starter. And maybe Turay and Lewis will end up being good-great players.

What concerns me a bit is the inclination perhaps to try to be a little too clever. Grigson seemed to prefer too often to try to use his singular genius find his own hidden gems instead of the very highly regarded college players.  I hope Ballard doesn't similarly try to pull a rabbit out of a hat too often when there's already a thoroughbred in plain view.

I probably would have used one of the later 2nd round picks on Guice.

Of course hindsight is 20/20 with his injury, but that is what I would have done at the time.

  13. What we've seen from him so far isn't very encouraging but with an offense with as few playmakers as the Colts seem to have, I'd like to see them at least try throwing to Hines in the regular season to see how that goes. As for the running game, if you watch the tapes of Wilkins and Hines from college, it shouldn't be any surprise that Wilkins is the better rusher.

    This comment is highly underrated.

Thank you. CB Obi Melifonwu, waived by the Raiders yesterday, is another name I think would be a nice addition with Lenzy Pipkins and Pierre Desire already in the fold.

Now friends, there was only one or two things that Obie coulda done at
The police station, and the first was he could have given us a medal for
Being so brave and honest on the telephone, which wasn't very likely, and
We didn't expect it, and the other thing was he could have bawled us out
And told us never to be seen driving garbage around the vicinity again
