Let's move on from talking about Fox News/CNN/other media channels. Talking about the media often encourages talk of politics, which is against the rules.

Any more thoughts on the Super Bowl?

    Good night, all.

Special teams though often an after thought was front and center tonite

This is an interesting perspective.   For me this falls under the heading that we all see the same thing differently.

I thought SF had the much better roster.  Not even close.  To me the difference was that KC had the much better QB, especially down the stretch.  And that’s not a knock on Purdy who was good, but not good enough.  But if the 49ers kicker had made the extra point, this conversation would likely be different.

Advantage at QB by a wide margin but also at TE by quite a bit (Kittle is very good but Kelce #1 by a bit though Laporta may challenge very soon).  O Line to KC based on pass blocking, I think SF D better overall but KC's Dbs are better for sure. Special teams KC by a wide margin and that showed tonite multiple times.

I did not realize the Chiefs had been underdogs. Are you sure? Most of those involved in football seemed to be picking the Chiefs. Everyone but one person on CBS thought the Chiefs would win. I really can't see how the Niners were favored, given the experience of the Chiefs and Mahomes at QB.

    Yes spread was SF -1.5

  3. Chiefs were the better squad I was shocked they were underdogs going into this game, SF had to rally vs Green Bay and Detroit, they played a very solid game but KC was obviously the better squad. Las Vegas took a beating tonite.

  4. Brady will always have the * it is known he cheated no one will debate that , Mahomes like him or hate him and many on both sides did it legally. He is on pace to shatter many records. Time will tell if he surpasses Peyton as #1,as a Colts fan I hope not.  When it comes to winning no one will every touch Otto Graham as he won 7 titles in 10 years and the 3 he didnt his club was runner up. Different era but that feat is impressive any time.

Andre Johnson played 42 less games than Reggie Wayne. That means his average yards and TDs per game were much better in less games, and it was still close. If Andre played 42 more games, his stats would have been much better than Reggies. That's not even discussing the differences at QB between the two.

Congrats to Dwight Freeney for getting in the HOF! Glad someone on the Colts was recognized this year!

Andre Johnson was also a Colt so we got 2 in....

  6. Good to see 2 former Colts get in, definitely think Reggie should be in as well but I'm positive it is coming soon.  Also think former Colts Rivers and Mathis make it,like others not sure where Matt Ryan falls, will be a close call. Obviously much better career then namath but can say that about 200 other QBS as well. Super Bowl loss wasnt all on matt but some recall it that way.

I just find it interesting that a team that was trending so horribly towards the end of the year didn’t really tank their odds.

Eagles definitely missed Shane and it showed but they are loaded from top to bottom. Their main issue was injury related as Hurts was hurt most of the season and to his credit played through it. Elite wr's, very good rb stable, both Lines among the best in the league. They need to address their secondary in the off season. Depending what happens in free agency and the draft their are among the NFC favorites with SF, Det ,and GB. IMO

Bernie was so terrible towards the end of his career which is when both Belichick and Art Modell cut him towards the end of his career due to his diminished physical skills. It’s not just the QB name, it’s when you get them. Bernie got his ring with the Cowboys as a member of their 1993 squad.

What did Bledsoe do after the Patriots let him go? He had 1, maybe 2 good years like Post 49ers Joe Montana with Chiefs, and then faded away.

Andy Reid got both McNabb and Alex Smith in their prime to play with. I still stand by my belief in Belichick’s coaching skills on the D and special teams side but the fact he was undone by his GM side which was the reason Brady bolted to the Bucs when he saw talent erosion on the offensive side and elsewhere with the Patriots.

Regardless, it’s time he hangs it up and enjoys his life, he’s had enough good times.

I agree his GM skills were beyond awful but he had players to at least sniff .500 and he just could not do it.  I honestly cant think of another HC who had such a big disparity between when they had their star QB and didnt.  I truly interested if anyone can name another coach but again NFL took a look and sad no not good enough.

To be fair, Andy Reid had Donovan McNabb, far better than any non-Brady QB that Belichick had. When he had an OC that was somewhat competent in Josh McDaniels for year 1 of Mac Jones, they made the playoffs as a wild card, how quickly we forget.

Belichick, the GM was his undoing and a little bit for his protege Mike Vrabel too, where them wanting say in GM roles has cost them interviews and potentially jobs. Coaching wise, he is prepared for situations on D and special teams unlike any other. No coach, even Andy Reid, can't win with a QB worth nothing. Andy Reid had Donovan McNabb and Alex Smith, a tier below McNabb, but not far off as early first round prospects (both top 6 picks if I am right) to work with when he got to the playoffs without Mahomes.

It is a QB driven league now, even more so now. So, Belichick was making a turnaround with the Browns before Art Modell moved them to Baltimore but in that era, you could be less reliant on QB and make it work. Not in this era. We have to take in the whole picture and circumstances that they each worked with. Yes, Andy Reid betted on the offensive side of the ball as a coach, and the league gravitating towards making the offensive side of the ball more easier has definitely made Reid's side of the game more conducive long term versus Belichick's specialty, the defense. It is hard to buy defensive stars like the Denver Broncos did in 2015 unless you have a HOF QB to draw them to the team.

He couldnt even win with Bernie... numbers speak for themselves and the league has spoken. Not good enough.

From what I get from media former players is BB wants to bring his own boys (coaches) or staff as he and he alone sees fit. I can't see him doing it any other way. People say he could not have succeeded without Brady. Would Andy Ried succeed without Mahomes? How about Baltimore without Jackson or the Colts without Luck?

    Great post/

Yes Reid would and did succeed without Mahomes, 9 playoffs in 14 years with Eagles including going to Super Bowl'

Yes Harbaugh without Jackson won a Super Bowl and had 5 other Playoff appearances

So you reinforced what the media said as B.B. without Brady zero playoff wins, losing overall record. B.B. just isnt good enough, no conspiracy, you have to win and he has not with Brady.

I'll be pulling for them.   Looks like they got 1 vote to be in the top 25.   If they keep winning, it will come.  Dayton is another team to watch.

I'm very familiar with Dayton actually thought last year would be theiur break out and it's coming 1 season later. DaRon Holmes a very talented big man. I thought losing Mike Shravantis to San Fran may set them back some but they are much better this year.

  12. My Clippers looking good and healthy except for Zubac who is gone for a bit but lucky that Plumlee came back just before the injury. They got a lot of heat when the acquired Harden and it could go wrong in the playoffs but he has lokoed like a great fit so far. Been following them since 1975 as the Buffalo Braves and Bob McAdoo was my first basketball hero (My folks got me the autographed Wilson ball for Christmas one year was awesome).

Thank you for all that hindsight.

But you do not appear to be aware that when Gay slumped it was because he was hurt.   I think his hip.   That’s why his accuracy fell off.

Yes bad hip threw off his swing, why many of us didnt want that long fg attempt vs Houston he missed. Wasnt the same ,hope next season he is recovered.
