I think Morrison (hes gonna be DQ 2.0 IMO)  played better than he was credited for. But Green was bad almost all year, hard to see how he made an all rookie team. I haven't given up on him though, think its foolish to give up on someone after one year.

I agree with you 100% T.j green was horrible but is silly to give up on. He has all the tools just needs some more coaching and developing. Last year Landon Collins wasn't nearly the player this year. Just hope he learns from his mistakes. Also, I agree with Morrison. He didn't get credited nearly as much at the end of the year. I think in the beginning of the year he was put in the wrong situation to try and play ilb when he's meant for mlb.  I also think he wasn't accumulated fully to the playbook in the beginning as well. At the end of the year though, he proved that he can play. Just needs more time to develop and needs to stay at the mlb position.

I agree but the one thing that bothers me about Morrison is his aggression.  I have a feeling he can be the type that gets us stupid bad penalties with bad timing.  I hope not because  aggression is good in that position if it is controllable.

Seems like he is easily capable of playing beyond the whistle in other words.

I agree, he is aggressive but I think he learned a lot after he lost playing time. He does have good instincts and i think in the beginning he wasn't accumulated to the play book fully. I'm not going to say Morrison is going to be great but I think he can be a solid player, the key is development. I know a lot of people on the forum think he was a waste of a draft pick but I think he proved himself at the end of the year. As long as he stays at mlb I think he can be a productive player.

  3. I know many think ilb is a strong need and I agree with that to a sense. Edwin played well at ilb. The one I'm excited to see is Morrison. In the beginning he looked lost and wasn't mean to be a ilb. But went he got to play his natural position at mlb he showed some good flashes. I hope he continues to develop.

My question was size for a scheme fit in our defense.   Has nothing to do with ability.  His current size is 275 so he'd have to bulk up for this scheme that we play.  You can see some strength issues as far as anchoring in some spots on film but it's nothing some added muscle and bulk wouldn't fix.  Issue issue is how much do you add that's not detrimental?   It's clear in Zierleins commentary he doesn't see Thomas as an OLB.  He sees him more as a defensive lineman which has been my contention the whole way.  If there are no plans to add 20-30lbs then I think a 4-3 DE is his best fit, or on the interior of a one gap defense like we used to play.

I think he has the ability to play both but your right I think he does need to add a little weight like 15 pounds. Compare to a JJ Watt, he's 296 6'5. Thomas 275 6'3.

I like Solomon Thomos alot but I feel his best fit would be a 4-3DE, or playing on the interior in a 1 Gap scheme like what we use to do under Dungy. High effort guy ideal for shooting gaps.  I have some questions about strength playing head up.  He could play on the interior of our scheme I think but he'd have to add a few lbs and some muscle.  My thoughts could be subject to change as I learn more, but that's about where I'm at as of today.

You do know once Henry left he took his spot in the starting lineup. He can play a 4-3 or 3-4.

    Cuts:

    DQ Jackson

    Arthur Jones

    Hugh Thornton

    Re-Sign (in order of priority):

    Jack Doyle

    Robert Turbin

    Erik Walden

    Akeem Ayers

Mike Adams (if he would sign as a backup; I want our young guys to play)

    Free Agents:

    Zach Brown - ILB

    Trumaine Johnson - CB

    Johnathan Hankins - NT

    Jason Pierre-Paul - OLB

    Draft:

Round One - Trade back a few spots to pick up an extra third round pick - Malik McDowell - DE Michigan State

Pagano, as a player's coach, might be able to get this guy motivated enough to kick it into gear.  If not, Henry Anderson and Kendall Langford can hopefully teach him some intensity.  If he gets going, he'll be a monster for us!

Round Two - Forrest Lamp - RG Western Kentucky

This guy (or Feeney, but I prefer Lamp) would help create a SOLID interior line for years.  Mewhort, Kelly, Lamp would be a great young foundation.

Round Three - Chidobe Awuzie - CB Colorado

I would use him sparingly for the first year in nickel and dime coverage.  He needs to learn how to support the run a little better.  He would be a great insurance policy behind Davis and Johnson, though.

Extra Round Three - Connor Harris - ILB Lindenwood

I would give this guy a chance for his work ethic alone!  He has just enough tools to be a good player in the league.

Round Four - Jordan Willis - OLB Kansas State

Great leader and great player.  Would learn better rush moves behind JPP, but he wouldn't need long.

Round Five - Wayne Gallman - RB Clemson

I'm expecting a few good RBs to fall, and Gallman would make a great committee back with Turbin.

Round Six - Tarell Basham - OLB Ohio State

Another pass rusher who would need to develop a few moves, but he could be a good starter once he gains some polish.

Round Seven - Damien Mama - G USC

Guy comes in on short yardage and goal line to push the pile.  If he can keep his weight DOWN, he'll be a mauler on the line.

    Depth Chart:

    QB - Luck / Tolzien

    RB - Gore / Turbin / Gallman / Ferguson

    WR - Hilton / Moncreif / Dorsett / Rogers

    TE - Allen / Doyle

    LT - Castonzo / Haeg

    LG - Mewhort / Good

    C - Kelly / Blythe

    RG - Lamp / Mama

    RT - Clark / Haeg

    DE - Anderson / Langford

    NT - Hankins / Perry / Kerr

    DT - McDowell / Ridgeway / McGill

    OLB - Jason Pierre-Paul / Willis

    ILB - Brown / E. Jackson

    ILB - Harris / Morrison

    OLB - Walden / Ayers / Basham

    CB - Davis / Awuzie / Melvin

    CB - Johnson / Robinson

    SS - Geathers / (Adams)

    FS - Green / Farley

After hearing yesterdays press conference in don't think the Colts are going to big spenders. I can see may 1 or 2 signings on the D. In my opinion, I do not think it would be wise to trade back because I think the Colts are are in a good spot to get a blue chip player. I believe there is a chance that Solomon Thomas could be there. I think he's a better option than Mcdowell

1st: trade back. Zach Cunningham. I'm thinking a RB will still be there if we have 14, a team like Detroit might want them.

Alternative: Hassan Reddick. He looks so explosive off the edge and he can drop in coverage better then any linebacker in the class

2nd: TJ Watt. Might not run well at the combine, but is a natural athlete who can do everything from the 3-4 OLB.

Alternative: Jordan Lewis. Measured well at the combine but in this deep class could easily fall to 2nd.

2nd: Adoree Jackson. I love adoree and wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't here but with so many more corners emerging and I think surpassing him he could be here. Hell run really we'll obviously, but there are a lot of good cover corners this year

Alternative: Raekwon McMillan/Elijah Lee. Raekwons draft stock really depends on him running well our not. That being said coaching and leaning out could change his game. Elijah Lee is interesting, he's super athletic and has a great frame, needs to add bulk, but as a lot of potential. I know we need impact and not potential guys, but if he runs well and is gaining weight hell rise on boards.

3rd: Derek Rivers. Derek is a freak of nature who will increase is stock will a good 40. Explosive long and strong, just very raw.

Alternative: Kareem Hunt. Kareem hunt looked great at the senior bowl, showed patience, balance, and beautiful cuts. Won't make it out of the 3rd after that.

4th: Lorenzo Jerome: hes played outstanding in all star games, and looks good in tape. Small school guy in a deep safety/corner class I think he could be here for us

Alternative: Joe Mathis. His senior year ending injury is worrisome, but that is the only reason he would fall here. He looked explosive and showed strength at the POA.

4th: Corey Clement/Jamaal Williams. Depending on who performs better at the combine, I think either of these guys could be here. Both are extremely physical, Clement being more athletic. Williams I think is more NFL ready, mostly because he's so dam Strong.

Alternative: Eddie Jackson. Might not be here, but he can't do anything to improve his stock while everyone else can.

5th: Dashawn Hand. Very underutilized at bama but is a great athlete and could rotate in at the 5 tech

Alternative: Branden Langley. Project corner who needs to fill out frame, but good in press and has good ball skills

6th: Sam Rogers. I noticed us trying to use  a FB more this year, but since we didn't have one on roster we used Jack Doyle. I'd rather have a thicker FB who is used to finding the right hole and can also catch out the backfeild like Rogers

Alternative: Ejuan Price: I'm a big fan of price, but he'll have 1 role in the NFL as a situational pass rusher. He's only 5'11 but his get off and ability to turn the corner is very nice

    Thoughts?

I think even with a trade back we can do better. I honestly don't want them to trade back though. There is a significant chance we could get a blue chip defender like Solomon Thomas. Just my opinion. I will also sent picks of what scouts are thinking of Zach Cunningham.

I think Ryan is more complete player right now. I do think Williams has a higher ceiling and is a better pass rusher. The one thing he will need to do better is facing the run. He isn't horrible but needs work especially going into the nfl.

    I don't love it...

I can't see us using two mid-round picks on RBs...

Poe and Ingram would be good FAs to get, though. I like some of the picks, just think that we could do more in the draft, especially if we add picks with a trade back.

I respect your opinion. I know with how bad the defense is most of those picks should be on the defensive side. Some people think rb isn't to big of an issue but I think it is. I think if they can get a young back or two to take the load off luck it will also help the defense stay off the field. I also think 2 young rb can help by having a strong 1-2 punch later on in the future.

Yeah I'd be surprised if either of those two make it past Carolina, Buffalo, Cincy or SD. They all have o line needs.

But if by chance they are still there when the Colts pick, I could see a team like Denver being interested in trading up to grab em.

I agree. Denver traded up for shane ray when they had miller and ware. I think it's all on how the team feels about the player

I don't see either of those two falling to 20th.      By law of supply and demand they shouldn't last long after the top-10.      Too much demand and not enough supply.

They're the two best OT's in the draft.      They should both go before 20.

I agree on some of what you said. I think both players could be gone within the top 10 due to the amount of teams needing an OT like the Jags, Panthers, and Chargers but there is also a great chance they might slide in the middle round because there are so many good prospects rated higher. It just depends on how the gm's feel about taking necessity over BPA. I do believe if Robinson or Ryan are available where the colts pick, I think teams may be on the phone trying to trade up. Seattle for example, needs lineman in a bad way but they also know Denver needs lineman as well. That comes into play where maybe Seattle decides to try and move up so they can get there guy before Denver or Denver is really sold on Robinson or Ryan and they want him bad enough they choose to move up to make sure they get the guy they want. They do have 10 picks this year. All I can say it's a bunch of what ifs but I do think anything is possible.
