  1. I assume we were testing our bottom of the depth chart guys to see if we could find a gem in the rough. Honestly, I thought it was more fun having it end the way it did. I was very amused by Mcafee's child-like giddiness when he got the chance to attempt the long field goal (65 yards, I believe). Either way, it's the preseason so it doesn't really matter all that much!!

What about Blythe?  Has he played?  I haven't heard anything about him since the draft.  We need depth at OLine and any draft pick (even a 7th) I'm interested in even if he's the 3rd C.

At the time it looks as if he is battling with Harrison for the #2 C spot, and both of them are also putting in work at right guard. It will be close, but if we do only keep 2 centers, I would predict it to be Kelly and Blythe. Blythe has more youth and potential overall, and although Harrison has the experience, Blythe is the better talent.

    Here's the story:

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000685382/article/cromartie-something-is-going-to-happen-for-me-soon

With the Colts looking for more secondary help, why not take a jab at Cromartie. He had a down year last season but he's definitely better than most of our current options (Davis and Robinson aside). What do you think?

  4. This week, the Indianapolis Colts defeated the Buffalo Bills 19-18 in their first preseason game of 2016. In this article, I will cover what I saw from Ryan Kelly, Hassan Ridgeway, Josh Ferguson, and TJ Green. These 4 rookies all got the start on Saturday night. Here's what I saw:

    Ryan Kelly, C

For the first time since the Jeff Saturday era, the middle of the line looked nice. A big part of this was due to first round pick Ryan Kelly. He showed great footwork and movement for a rookie, always moving forward in the run game and not letting anyone through the middle in the passing game. He showed outstanding mental processing for a rookie, always picking up the right block when needed. All in all, a great first showing for the first rounder.

    TJ Green, FS

No matter how many people think Green was a reach and won't pan out, you can't deny his flash of potential Saturday. He finished tied for second on the Colts with 4 tackles, and had touchdown-saving coverage in the middle of the first, chasing a man down and denying the ball. He looked good and is seemingly catching on to our defensive scheme quickly. Don't be surprised if he shares the position with Clayton Geathers when he returns.

    Hassan Ridgeway, DT

Like the first two, Ridgeway also looked good in the first game of the preseason. He pushed the pocket, and while it doesn't show in the box score, he really put the heat on the quarterback a few times. He showed good speed and power, and definitely showed us why some people considered him a first-round prospect.

    Josh Ferguson, HB

Disappointing night for the Colts offseason hype man Ferguson. He rushed for 3 yards on 8 attempts. For those that don't understand, not good... He also missed a key block that allowed a sack deep in our own territory, ultimately leading to a punt block and safety for the Bills. He really proved that he still needs work before he can be as good as we thought.

Hope you enjoyed. Keep in mind that this is what I saw. Thanks for reading!

  5. Here is the latest depth chart for the Colts. We have Walden, Jackson, Moore, and Mathis as starters at the moment. Moore and Irving are currently battling for the start next to Jackson. Some players to watch are Edwin Jackson, who has received some praise in camp for his ability to cover the field and Trevor Bates, who is currently in the second team unit. There are certainly others, but these two are the most intriguing of the bunch.

  6. Let me start by saying that this is my personal predictions. If you disagree, feel free to let me know. My only request in that regard is for everyone to be polite to one another and myself. Thank you and enjoy!!!!

    Preseason:

    HOF Game: Cancelled

Week 1: AT Buffalo, Sat, Aug 13, 7:00 PM

    Prediction: W

Week 2: VS Baltimore, Sat, Aug 20, 7:00 PM

    Prediction: L

Week 3: VS Philadelphia, Sat, Aug 27, 7:00 PM

    Prediction: L

Week 4: AT Cincinnati, Thu, Sept 1, 7:30 PM

    Prediction: L

    Preseason Recap:

    W-L: 1-3

The Colts have never had good luck in the preseason. I think that streak continues this year. While our starting lineup looks good on paper, our second-string guys aren't quite as proven, lacking the needed depth to hold onto leads in the preseason. Buffalo is similar in that regard, with a decent starting core of guys, but a lack of depth thereafter. I gave us the win there because I feel we will build an early lead and then hold on to it the rest of the way. Baltimore, Philly, and Cincy, on the other hand, have some decent depth on their respective teams, leading me to believe that they will win in the long-run.

    Regular Season:

Week 1: VS Detroit, Sun, Sept 11, 4:25 PM

    Prediction: W

The Lions had quite the year last season. Let me rephrase that. Calvin Johnson had quite the year last season. The rest of the team: Meh. Unfortunately for them, the man known as Megatron has left the building. For the first time in nearly a decade, Detroit will step onto the football field without their prized receiver to carry them. Don't get me wrong. I am excited to see what Golden Tate can do finally being the primary target for Matt Stafford. I just don't expect him to create the mind-meld with Stafford that Stafford and Calvin had as early as the first game of the season. With that in mind, the Colts should easily win this game by a decent margin. Any closer than 10 points and I'll be disappointed.

Week 2: AT Denver, Sun, Sept 18, 4:25 PM

    Prediction: W

This early in the year, the Broncos will still be scrambling for answers under center. If our secondary has a semi-decent game, we should be able to easily just key in on the run game, holding them to a low score. On the other hand, their dynamic pass rush should really test our revamped O-line, which I believe can't be as bad as last season (Right? RIGHT??). If we do stand up to the challenge and put a few touchdowns up, we should walk away with a win. Don't believe me? We beat them last year as they were on the way to winning the Super Bowl. With the troubles they are having now, we should win in a close game.

Week 3: VS San Diego, Sun, Sept 25, 4:25 PM

    Prediction: W

While the Chargers have an explosive passing offense that keeps them in games, their run game and defense are subpar. With our high-octane offense off to a fast start to the season, I see no reason for us to lose this game. If our secondary keeps living up to what I predict they will, we should keep them from scoring often. It should be another good game, but I can't see us losing.

Week 4: AT Jacksonville, Sun, Oct 2, 9:30 AM

    Prediction: L

The first loss of the season for the Colts will come in our first divisional game. The Jaguars have an explosive offense and a good-looking defense on paper. While it will be a tough loss, due to the knowledge that the past few years, not including last year, we have dominated the division. I believe that Jacksonville's home field advantage will give them the slight edge in what should be a high scoring game.

Week 5: VS Chicago, Sun, Oct 9, 1:00 PM

    Prediction: W

After a rough loss the week before, the Colts get back on track at home against the Bears. With our explosive offense tearing up Chicago's defense, now featuring former Colt Jerrell Freeman. Our secondary on defense will at this point be considered one of the leagues strongest, holding Alshon Jeffery in check. After losing Forte in the offseason, the Bears run game starts to decline, leaving them helpless against the high-scoring Colts offense.

Week 6: AT Houston, Sun, Oct 16, 8:30 PM

    Prediction: L

I know, I know. Another loss for the Colts in the weakest division in the NFL. Honestly, though, the division isn't so weak anymore. J.J. Watt  should be back by this point, taking the Texans D from mediocre to scary once again (Yes, one man can do that by himself if his name is J.J. Watt). They should keep our offense in check while Deandre Hopkins goes to work with his first semi-decent quarterback he's had since... ever, really. Lamar Miller will have a breakout year, and he will run our still subpar run defense into the ground. It should be good, but I'm in favor of the home team here.

Week 7: AT Tennessee, Sun, Oct 23, 1:00 PM

    Prediction: W

Yes, we have said the division has gotten stronger. And it's true, it has. Tennessee just isn't there yet. I favor us by a couple scores at least. Not much more to say. Sorry, Titans fans.

Week 8: VS Kansas City, Sun, Oct 30, 1:00 PM

    Prediction: L

They Chiefs had a great year last season. No, this time it doesn't mean one player. I mean the whole team. With their defense keeping game scores low, and their offense returning Jamaal Charles, they should walk away with a win. That doesn't mean we won't give them a run for their money, but they should pull this one out at the very end. Jamaal is a top RB, and our run defense is at the bottom of the league. I fully expect him to put up the game winning TD on the ground.

Week 9: AT Green Bay, Sun, Nov 6, 4:25 PM

    Prediction: L

This game should be a shootout, but for the time being, Aaron Rodgers is the best quarterback in the league. Yes, better than Tom Brady and Cam Newton. While Luck is amazing as well, he still isn't at a Discount-Double Check level. While both defenses aren't the best, the Packers hold the advantage in that regard. They also have a young running back to lean on when necessary in Eddie Lacy. We don't. I'm giving the Pack the advantage here because it's being played at Lambo Field, one of the hardest places to play in the NFL.

    Week 10: Bye

    Midseason Recap:

Sitting at 5-4 at the Bye Week, the Colts are in position to make the playoffs, but they must win most of their last 7 in order to secure a spot. The defenses secondary is still playing strong, but the run defense sadly isn't. The offense is playing amazingly in the air, but the ground game is definitely in need of some health as Gore finally shows the signs of wear and tear that comes with age.

Week 11: VS Tennessee, Sun, Nov 20, 1:00 PM

    Prediction: W

(Please see Week 7 recap for information)

Week 12: VS Pittsburgh, Thu, Nov 24, 8:30 PM

    Prediction: L

Unfortunately, you can't stop the healthy trio of Big Ben, AB, and Bell. It's impossible. If one of them were injured, it might be a different story, but I seriously doubt they will. They will destroy our defense, and while our offense does the same to theirs, we just won't be able to keep up.

Week 13: AT New York (Jets), Mon, Dec 5, 8:30 PM

    Prediction: W

When it comes down to it, Revis Island can't accommodate all three dynamic Colts receivers. While he locks down on one, the other two will tear it up. When he switches to one of them, the first dominates. Luck is well known for sharing the wealth, and he's smart enough to know that he has two other receivers not covered by Revis. The Jets offense should be good, but Luck is far and away a better QB than Fitzpatrick. It should be a great game, but I favor the Colts.

Week 14: VS Houston, Sun, Dec 11, 1:00 PM

    Prediction: W

After losing to the Texans earlier in the year, the Colts come out with a vengeance. In front of the home crowd, the Colts will steamroll Houston. Not much more to say.

Week 15: AT Minnesota, Sun, Dec 18, 1:00 PM

    Prediction: L

I mean seriously. It's AP versus a horrific run defense. He's going to eat. We will keep it close, but AP will kill us in the long run.

Week 16: AT Oakland, Sat, Dec 24, 4:05 PM

    Prediction: W

Khalil Mack is going to be an Defensive POY candidate at this point, but the offense will hold off the Raiders. While Amari Cooper is going to kill it this year, he will have troubles matched up with Vontae Davis. Latavius Murray isn't exactly a bell cow back, meaning they won't run the ball to much. Our secondary will still be top tier, effectively shutting down their offense. We put up a few scores, we win.

Week 17: VS Jacksonville, Sun, Jan 1, 1:00 PM

    Prediction: W

See Week 14, Substitute Jaguars where it says Texans and Jacksonville for Houston.

    Season Recap:

At the end of the year, the Colts finish 10-6, clinching the AFC South. They will make a Playoff run but lose in the AFC Championship game.

Ya but 4000 yards for a QB is much easier than having 3 receivers over 1000 yards.  That would most likely have Luck break the record for single season passing yards.

Lets say TY gets 1400, Donte gets 1100, and Dorsett gets 1000, for a grand total of 3500 yards. Factor in Gore and Allen combining for maybe 850 yards and the rest of the receivers hitting right around a total of 650, you get a grand total of 5000 yards, reasonable for Luck (Who had nearly 4800 in 2014) and even highballing for the extra receivers (That would be around 6 receivers averaging about 110 yards each!!!), and it's entirely reasonable that it could happen if Luck stays healthy!!

  8. Yes, I know I'm quite the optimistic guy. I am already listing reasons why we can make the Super Bowl and such, which was deemed by many as way to early to tell. Honestly, this one feels the most realistic to me out of everything I've posted so far. I believe that we can get 3 different receivers over 1000 yards this year. Let's break the receiving group so you can see where I'm coming from!

    1) TY Hilton

I've seen online over the past few years lists from D-backs on which receivers they are most nervous facing. AB, Julio, and Odell obviously top the list. Surprisingly enough, many have TY in there top five!! An overlooked weapon in the era of the receiver, TY is perhaps the most dangerous deep threat in the league. Many players say he has that extra set of gears that nobody else in the league has. He has the amazing burst away speed that leaves defenders tripping over themselves to try to keep up. I'm sure many of you remember this play from last year. Not only does he have the breakaway speed, he has good hands and fantastic route-running ability. His cuts are fluid, allowing him to get so open it seems as if nobody was guarding him to begin with. Hilton is a perennial 1000 yard receiver, so there is no doubt he will do it again.

    2) Donte Moncrief

Moncrief had an amazing coming out year last year, catching a TD pass in 5 of Luck's 7 games and going for over 100 yards twice. He caught a pass in every single game this season, showing that he can get open. He also has great jump ball skills, making a 50-50 pass look more like a 70-30 pass. And this was all in his sophomore season. It usually takes until year three for a receiver to finally have his breakout season. If that means Moncrief has yet to have a breakout season, I can't wait to see what he can do. FEED MONCRIEF!!

    3) Phillip Dorsett

Usually, a teams first round pick is an automatic plug to start. Last year, Dorsett was 4th on the depth chart, and was injured for half of the season. He still had 18 catches for 225 yards, or a 12.5 Avg. With Dorsett now 3rd on the chart and TY and Donte hogging all the DB's, I can only imagine how badly Dorsett can destroy the LB match-ups he will get into sometimes. His blazing speed will be a major weapon, and an increase in targets due to the loss of Fleener and Johnson should easily put the first rounder right around 1000 yards. Let's see if Dorsett can have a huge year 2 like Moncrief did!!

While this didn't take me nearly as long as the 5 Reasons the Colts Can Make the Super Bowl, it was still extremely fun to write. As always, I hope you all enjoy!!! Please leave ideas for my next "Reasons Why" post and I may just feature you in my next edition!! GO BLUE!!!!

  9. Just take a look around the internet at all the haters who don't even think the Colts will make the playoffs this year. It's astounding how many people have lost faith in the franchise after a year riddled with injuries. They must not have considered how we still almost won the division (Read Here). I'm confident that the Colts still have a strong hold on the division, and even that we will make the Super Bowl. Don't believe me?? Here's 5 reasons why!

    1) Healthy Luck = Healthy Chances

Looking back at last season, where we went 8-8 and didn't make the playoffs for the first time since Andrew Luck arrived, there is still reason to be positive. Luck is 3 for 3 on playoff appearances, not counting last year when he only played 7 of our 16 games. In his first three years, he led us to 11-5 records each season. That being said, I feel great about our chances of making the playoffs, even with the division rapidly improving. If Luck stays healthy (which he should behind a partially revamped line), who can't we beat??? Added to this the fact that Luck only played one game under new OC Rob Chudzinski (a win against the Super Bowl Champs), and you get a recipe for success!

    2) Chuuuuuuud!!!!!!

Let's fly back a bit to mid-season last year. Sitting 3-5 after a devastating loss in OT to Carolina in a game we could have won, the front office decided to fire OC Pep Hamilton. This was quite a shocking move to make halfway through the year, with many people believing we were just giving up. Enter interim OC Rob Chudzinski. In his first week with the Colts, with a semi-healthy Luck and a game against the best defense in the NFL (and widely considered one of the best ever), every odd was stacked against him. What ended up happening was that we caught a glimpse of just how powerful the Colts offense could be. Luck threw for 252 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 21 of 39 completed passes without an interception, while also having a passer rating of 98.4, his best of the season. Gore scrambled for 83 yards and a TD on 28 carries, and the ball was very well distributed, with 4 players over 3 receptions. Luck only got sacked once, showing the offensive line was improved under Chud's quick-moving scheme. After that huge win over the eventual Super Bowl Champions, Chud soared. Over the rest of the year, he lead the crippled Colts offense to a 5-3 record, 4-3 without Luck. And who can forget his preparation of Josh Freeman and Ryan Lindley in the regular season finale against the Titans. With Chud's high-octane offense and a healthy Luck next year, the sky is the limit for this offense.

    3) Finally, a Smart Draft by Irsay

Now I don't want to knock Irsay at all. He's a great man with good intentions. He's just not very good when it comes to drafts. This year feels different, though. Usually, with only 8 draft picks, Owners and GMs tend to get as many playmakers as possible. Many people have frowned upon the Colts getting 4 offensive linemen in the draft, as they aren't exactly "playmakers". When you stop watching the game and watch the line, though, that's when you begin to see the real "playmakers". Providing huge blocks, preventing sacks, running their hearts out down field to try to block anybody they can to extend the play, linemen make up the heart of big plays. While the ball carrier gets all the credit for making the play happen, the behemoth men up front quietly rejoin the huddle, hoping they can get the chance to make it happen again. Their pride comes from knowing how they set up a block to extend the run or stopped a pass rush to allow the quarter back to make the magic happen. That's why I think Irsay got the real "playmakers" in the draft. Kelly will be an immediate upgrade, while Clark has the potential to be a stud once fully developed. Haeg and Blythe also have potential to be good starters in a few years. Irsay did a great job this year, and with everyone saying that we need to protect Luck, I'm surprised how well he accomplished it. Great job, Irsay!!

    4) Undrafted Pass Rushers (Oh, and a drafted one)

Going into the draft, many people saw pass rush as one of our top two positions of need. They were right, but they are overreacting to how we didn't get on until the last round. We still have a starting duo next year, and with the collective 200+ sacks between Cole and Mathis, the rookies will learn a ton this year. Don't forget that the rookie LB group accumulated a combined total of 33.5 sacks in the 2015 season (and thats only among 5 players). Plus, the recent story about the Colts Pass Rush for 2016 reveals that through the last 6 weeks of 2015, we led the league with 21 sacks! The other overlooked addition in the offseason is Hassan Ridgeway, who totaled 6 sacks in 2014, Add the Okine move to OLB with 5.5 CFL sacks and we have a young group with 45 sacks in one year of college or the CFL. We are going to get after the QB this year, as well as many years to follow.

    5) Our Division

Yes, the AFC South made a huge statement in the offseason with some big name acquisitions. Yes, the division does look a whole lot better than past years on paper. What you have to remember about this is our last offseason. We made huge waves in free agency, leading many to believe we would be the best team in the NFL. And if you recall, everyone was saying we looked "so much better on paper!" Boy were they wrong. This is the AFC South, where nothing ever seems to go right for anyone. The division won't blow up like everyone is saying. The Jags aren't going to win 12 plus games just because of Myles Jack, Jalen Ramsey, and a much improved defense. Even with that, they only went 5-11 last year. They can't get that much better with a few players. The Texans went out to grab Brock Osweiler and Lamar Miller in free agency, and rounded out some rough edges on offense in the draft. Yes, they have JJ Watt. But will this put them out of reach for a team with one of the most high-octane offenses in the NFL. Doubtfully. And the Titans are going to do well a few years from now, but currently, they aren't anywhere threatening. With Luck back healthy, a better line, and Chud, we should go back to sweeping the division easily.

Thanks for reading. This took me so long to write up so I hope you all enjoy! All you have to do now is believe! Here We Come, Super Bowl 51!!! GO BLUE!!!

  10. Did they forget what we did with a halfway healthy Luck and Chud leading the offense?!?!? They didn't even mention how easily our offense decimated Denver's Super Bowl winning defense!! Or how the week before we almost beat the 15-1 SB Runner Up Carolina Panthers, taking the game to overtime (Under Pep, not Chud)!! Plus, theu failed to take into account the added protection for Luck this season to keep him healthy and give him more time in the pocket!Yes, our defense could use some help but this prediction is just flat out stupid!!

  11. 6 hours ago, crazycolt1 said:

You have absolutely no idea of what these or any other players will do in the NFL. Playing the what if game is just silly at this point IMO. Besides we already have enough threads covering this type of stuff. I sure will glad when the season starts and maybe, just maybe this kind of stuff will eventually disappear.

I understand what you are saying. I'm just here saying imagine if this would have happened, not we shouldn't have done what we did because it was bad. The draft is my favorite time of year because it is the time where I learn about prospects I've never heard of. Before this offseason, I had no idea who Laremy Tunsil, Jared Goff, or even Jalen Ramsey were. Be it my first year of actually getting into this kind of thing, I have just fallen head over heels for the draft. I have watched so many highlight reels and gone through so many scouting reports from so many different websites that it has taken up half of my life! So yes, I understand that in most peoples eyes this type of thing is pointless and even stupid-sounding. Yes, I also understand that we don't know how these players will do in the NFL. This is all just for fun!! Oh, and thanks for the tip. I will remember not to do this next year as I do understand where you're coming from!! Have a great day (Not to be taken in a mocking or rude way)!!

  12. What if the Colts traded down in the second with the Bengals, still acquiring a 4th rounder (122nd, which I should mention they used to pick up Andrew Billings, who was also mentioned to be a potential first rounder by us in the offseason) and not a 7th, and picked up Cody Whitehair in the second. Our first three rounds would be Kelly, Whitehair, and Clark, all three of whom had been mocked in the first round this offseason. Then Billings, another player linked as a round 1 option for us, in the fourth along with someone along the lines of CB Juston Burris with our own pick! No more questions at O-line, plus Green seemed a bit of a reach with our pick anyways. The D-Line and CB questions will also finally get answered! Then in the seventh, pick up Keith Marshall, a speedy back to compliment Gore. The players we'd not pick up in the 7th would be Blythe and Bates, who would've likely becme  UDFAs if we hadn't drafted them, meaning we could still pick them both up. Just imagine it all!!!

    To recap picks:

    1st: Kelly

    2nd: Whitehair

    3rd: Clark

    4th: Burris, Billings

    5th: Haeg

    7th: Marshall

Wow. What could have been. 4 potential first rounders to the Colts all come anyway, and then the fastest man in the draft to cap it off. What are you waiting for, Irsay. Just hire me already!!!

  13. 12 minutes ago, Chucklez said:

so more than likely we'll have about 37mil to spend....  Keeping in mind the only players from the 2014 draft class the year after are Moncrief and Mewhort.

Now we just have to hope Grigson doesn't go on a spree and plays the market for value and potential instead of ability and age.

  14. I think Gore will get back to his normal 1,000 yards at least, but we may also see less running if Luck stays healthy. When Luck was out in 2015, Gore averaged 16.8 carries per game. With Luck in the game, though, those numbers dipped to 15.6 carries per game. While not a significant decrease, this does go on to prove that this is a pass first, and often, offense when we have number 12 under center. Add to that the fact that against the Panthers and Broncos (While Luck was harboring a shoulder injury), Gore had 22 carry and 28 carry games respectively due to the fact that we were trying to keep Andrew as healthy as possible. Yes, the help at O-line will give Gore much more running room, but the decrease in carries will counteract that majorly. We will see what happens at the end of the year, but at the time I can't see Gore under 1000 yards or over 1200 yards.

  15. Welcome back to the Thursday installment of the "Predict THIS" series. (I'm going to assume that the left side to the middle of Castanzo, Mewhort, Kelly is safe and that the others on the roster likely won't pass the preseason or be good enough to start! Sorry!)Remember to leave ideas for next weeks Predict THIS in the comments! Your idea may just be featured!!

  16. I see the active linemen after camp and the preseason shaping up something like this:

    Starters

    LT - Castanzo

    LG - Mewhort

    C - Kelly

    LG - Good

    LT - Clark

    Reserves:

    T - Haeg

    T/G - Reitz

    G - Thornton

    C - Blythe

    Explanations:

    Starters:

Castanzo is the starting LT, no questions asked. Mewhort at LG, same reason as Castanzo. Kelly at C, same reason again. Good at RG, as he does well in both pass and run blocking but he just isn't long enough or dependable enough to take on Edge rushers. Clark at RT, because of his length and prowess against Edge rushers, as well as his quickness.

    Reserves:

Haeg has great blocking ability, but he needs to work on his grit and size to become a starter. Reitz just always seems to come back, but at the same time, he is better than many other guard/tackles we can pick up. Thornton should also be able beat out the other guards we brought in for a spot. Finally, Blyth is just a much more dependable player than Harrison, even if we haven't even seen him play at this level yet. Harrison is better suited for a practice squad than an active roster.
