Also saw us listed as potential team for Budda Baker if they move him before or during draft.

    https://www.si.com/nfl/cardinals/arizona-cardinals-budda-baker-trade-candidate-draft#:~:text=Baker - who turned 28 earlier,the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.

Obviously just connecting us with other teams with needs, but potentially another option.

Would be an expiring deal, with $15.1m cap hit this year. Could sign to an extension though and reduce the number.

I think we make another move before the draft, hopefully a couple, but yeah, for most part, teams will start to look to fill holes once they see how draft plays out and what holes remain.

Draft can't help our veteran Safety need though.

I have mentioned trading for Baker in some of my earlier posts.  I like this move better because of his age and Ballard could extend him and he would fit in perfectly with the current extensions of our own players.  He’s in his prime so he would be a great get imo.  Safety room fortified with an all pro for years down the road.

It was a 3rd that can turn into a 2nd with the right conditions and the fact that it's in 2026 doesn't change the fact that it is a 2nd/3rd rounder. Frankly they overpaid for him.

As where the Colts fit with this trade, it doesn't make sense because of the cost and you have to ask the question how big of a difference is Reddick to our current starter?" Which Reddick fits Ebukam's role more than Payes. Ebukam had 9.5 sacks in his first season, and hopefully with the new DL coach he have at least 9 sacks this season as well. So is the 2nd and 3rd rounder + the new contract worth the slight upgrade that Reddick is? I say no because Ebukam could be just as good if not better this year. (Granted sacks aren't the be all for comparing players, I'm just using them to simplify the argument without getting to far into the weeds.)

Hunter would have replaced Paye most likely which would have been a bigger upgrade worth the contract (without giving draft picks away).

How I always look at these trades is what the floor and ceiling of player A is compared to the current player B, and are the assets that are being traded/contract being given worth the difference between the ceiling of current player B to the floor of the new Player A.

That is why they pursued Hunter and not Reddick.  Like I said.  If he meets the conditions of the trade the Jets will be happy giving up the 2nd in 2026.

Hunter was a FA, Reddick you are giving a 2nd or 3rd rounder and a new contract or you keep him as a one year rental. So for the price of Reddick he isn't worth it, I would trust Ebukam and the new DL coach improving our young players. The Jets are going all in this year with Rodgers, but Howie Roseman may end up making them look bad like he has made many others look foolish with trades.

Well from your response, I would say I know more than you lol

See the above comment about why Reddick costs way too much, Howie would love to give Reddick for Dayo and Paye and would laugh is way to the super bowl. While your philosophy would destroy your depth and rotation players that would leave the DL gassed and unable to last the season. It's the same thing Grigson did. After 2-3 years you will have the oldest roster in the league, no young talent and have terrible cap space.

The cost for Reddick was a conditional 3rd rd pick in 2026.  Not 2024 not 2025 but 2026.  The price for Reddick was definitely worth it.  He’s only 29.  A new contract will secure him for three or four years.  Howie and Joe Douglas are buddies.  They are both happy with the trade.  Ballard thought Hunter was a better fit.  It’s about finding the right fit when a trade is made.  Ballard could still be shopping for all we know.

Bowers likely doesn't get past NYJ.  And will probably flourish with Rodgers.

I find it hard to imagine Ballard trading up for a TE.  He has invested a lot of picks in the TE room the last couple of years.  And for various reasons he hasn’t seen all of them play significant snaps.  Seems like a big price to pay and bale on them.  At pick nine that player has to start and is predominantly a three down player.  I find it hard to believe he would pay that big price.  We are in a great spot to draft a premium player who would happen to be in a position of need.  I think he just sits tight and see who falls.

They have what ifs for All the scenarios. There pick 15 so it’s easier for them to do what ifs then they would be if they were at the end of the draft order. They have there board of who they want and who they will pick if they are there. So yes they do.

I said they have what ifs in place.  That doesn't mean they will know who they will pick.  A team could surprise them and want their pick.  No way of knowing no matter how much you think you have it figured out.  There could always be a surprise in the offing.

I would've said no, because I thought Parsons almost exclusively had his snaps at OLB. But, he actually had 239 snaps at LEO last season (compared to 392 ROLB/LOLB snaps).

I do think Parsons strength is his ability to line up everywhere and I honestly don't think Bradley is a good enough DC to take advantage of that.

If this was a legit possibility, though, I'd be fine paying him anything and giving the Cowboys anything. Parsons is the best pass rusher in the league and he turns 25 this year...

I think Bradley would be able to use Parsons effectively.  I couldn’t believe they were able to get so many sacks last year.  Missing Grover for a quarter of the season didn’t help either.  To have a chance at having a good defense you need talent and a little experience wouldn’t hurt.  The secondary was the Achilles heel last year.  They intentionally went with young and inexperience.  And we witnessed what happened.  Ballard trying to get Hunter is telling I think.  He could have focused on the secondary in FA.  In fact we might have been in on McKinney.  Not sure.  If so he was trying to add exceptional experienced talent to the defense.  I think Gus knows what he’s doing.  He just needs a few significant upgrades to finish the job and hopefully our young players in the secondary make a big leap.

No one is afraid of paying for talented players, they just don't want to pay aging players past their peak or players that are coming off a lot of hype that doesn't match their talent. We have seen that before with Grigson and all it does is put you in a bad spot salary cap wise and unable to resign your own good players. You combine that with also having to trade away high draft picks it's not worth it.

Ballard wasn’t afraid to go after Hunter.  Same age as Reddick and his contract is more than Reddick.  29 might be too old for you but not for Ballard.  Grover is 30.  He didn’t do too bad either.

Yeah, I'm not certain about the compensation. It's really hard for me to gauge what different players are worth when you have to give them a top money contract in addition to the picks. The league is all over the place with those... Some get 2 firsts, others that I would have expected to get 2 1sts, get a 1st and some change... But yah, my point is Ballard should be on top of all those possibilities and probing for a potential opening to get one of those players while we have Richardson on his rookie contract.

I couldn’t agree more.  It’s really hard to guess on the compensation.  It appears to be all over the place.  The Buckner acquisition was pretty straightforward.  A Parsons acquisition seems similar to me.  I have to think Ballard is poking around on some of these players for the reason you mentioned.  His big contract Hunter pursuit really surprised me.  He’s hungry for a veteran ER.  No doubt.

I had not considered this before today, but I listened to an episode of The Draft Show(this is Dallas Cowboys show about the draft) and they are not expecting this to happen or something but they did mention potential possibility of trading Micah Parsons(their reasoning was - their team is becoming harder and harder to maintain and they have started losing a lot of players to FA without obvious replacements... they need picks and they need to refresh their roster with cheap high level talent).

We have discussed the possibility of trading for a top tier receiver, but we are talking about Ballard here... is really a receiver more likely position to trade for? Or is a DE? Especially since we know he tried to go for Danielle Hunter at top of the market money? If Dallas decided they cannot afford Parsons going into what would be the record-setting DE contract of the league... would you be willing to 1. give him that record setting DE contract to Parsons? and 2. give Dallas what it would take(very likely 2 1st round picks?

I think Ballard would be more inclined to trade for a DE than a WR especially since he tried for Hunter.  Eagles just gave Reddick away and Burns went for a 2nd and a fifth.  He’s the same age as Burns.  So I’m not a sure 1st would be necessary.  He would do an extension like he did with Buckner.  I would bet Dallas would take our 15th like the 49’ers took our 13th for Buckner.  They aren’t feeling the same pressure though as SF.   On the other hand they want to sign Dak.  They might decide they can not afford both.  So I like your thinking.  Timing is everything.  Getting Parsons would be a difference making acquisition.

They definitely know what they are going to do with the pick already. They have had months to prepare for this, if who is available they pick them or if not they pick this person or if these guys are gone, they trade. They have all these scenarios played out for sure. They know exactly what they are doing already.

No they don’t.  They will have their board in place when the draft starts.  They have no way of knowing what will take place in front of them before they pick.  They can guess on different scenarios but it’s just a guess.  The can not possibly know all of the scenarios.  Guessing doesn’t equal reality.  I’m sure they are doing a lot of what ifs.  That’s what I would expect.  But that’s a far cry from definitely knowing what they will do with the pick.

I just cant understand taking D line over a CB this year.  WR or Bowers would make sense to me

If the team doesnt value corners this way then maybe they should start.  I dont like to pigeon hole what we draft this hard but our secondary is a bunch of nobodies and our Dline is ok, better than ok actually.  We dont even have many snaps for a rookie unless they are a really good edge right out of the gate. A rookie DT from this class isnt beating Buckner or Stewart.

Ballard said he is not done addressing the secondary.  So it’s fair to say he will make an addition or two up to the draft.  I don’t think they have any idea what they will do with the first pick right now.  Not a clue.  They obviously like the players they have that form the core.  You can tell that by all of the players they resigned.  By the time the draft is here I will bet there will not be a glaring major hole on the team.  A hole that will definitely point to what position they will draft.  A great spot to be in for sure.

Here are some Matt Harmon "Reception Perception" charts for the top receivers:

    GJhnx1aXMAAW9td?format=jpg&name=largeGJhnx1eXQAA1JCQ?format=jpg&name=large

    GJoXOupWEAEQ2Cc?format=png&name=largeGJoXQcUXgAAp09J?format=png&name=large

And here's the best of them... look at this one for Rome:

    GJiXohnaQAEALJX?format=jpg&name=large

According to Harmon Odunze is the first receiver he's ever charted that has completely green route tree everywhere. He runs every route and he get gets open on every single route.

BTW MHJ's chart is not as impressive, but he mentions he was doubled the most out of any receiver in this draft class and his chart is still really really good.

So green is good, yellow is average and red is bad?

I am. I’m very much against corner or safety round 1 or 2. I absolutely hate drafting based off need especially when there will be better players available at other positions most likely. And I think there’s good value at corner in rounds 3 and 4.

I think corner could actually be BPA.  Being a position of need could just be coincidental.  We have no way of knowing what the Colts board looks like.

Good point. I do wonder how much of a factor this is for FAs, once they account for the difference in cost of living. Just strictly from a financial standpoint. For example, NSH is probably at least 7% more expensive than IND.

Each player’s circumstance is different.  Rodgers had no problem going to the Jets in a high state tax state.  Players want the money and they also want to win and hopefully get a Super Bowl when they’re playing.  A lot of factors play in to their decision.

Ballard said today they have started talking to Blackmon again. It’s moving in a positive direction. Holder thinks they will sign a FS too. He said he doesn’t think colts liked the FA market at CB.

I would love to see a deal come together soon for Blackmon with some incentives attached with one being for each interception achieved.

It is not a great off the ball linebacker class or a great safety class, the draft, according to Daniel Jeremiah. I am all for looking at bigger CBs and making them play safety. Unfortunately for us, we need help at safety badly and it won't end well for Ballard and Bradley, if Blackmon or a good FA is not signed.

    https://nesn.com/2024/02/nfl-draft-guru-highlights-strengths-weaknesses-of-2024-draft-class/

WR, offensive tackles, CBs, excellent draft for them. Unfortunately, we don't need OTs right now (got Freeland for swing tackle), so I am all for double dipping with WR position. LB pickings might get really slim after Day 2 for quality, so might as well get one then.

It depends on what they have gotten from their first pick. If their first pick is a blue chipper CB that dropped that they got by trading back, obviously using the draft equity they got, they should be able to double dip with different WR kinds on the board (OR) move up with the draft equity they gained if they see a run on WRs happening.

I was referencing the WR class.  I quoted a comment about a WR who the Colts apparently like because they sent three representatives to his pro day which included Cooter.

Ballard also told press they have started talks with Blackmon. Holder just said on radio he thinks they will also sign a FS.

I’m starting to think Blackmon will be back and with a new FS I will feel 100%  better with the safety group.

So pretty much the same he's done every year here.

Yep.  But now he thinks he has his quarterback like all of us are hoping.  That’s what he’s banking on him and Steichen together for the year.
