  1. Not commenting on the comparison but Caldwell is a complete "happy talk" guy putting a positive spin on everything to the point of unreality. I don't trust Caldwell's judgement because his words don't fit the pattern how he coaches especially when players who seem to have more talent and have shown that on the field (i.e. Tryon) are not played without logical reason. If you go by Caldwell's words there is never any problem(s) everything is always correctable, he leaves me confused with what is going on.

  2. The glass (Painter's performance) is half full/half empty. I will say this, he proved he understands the playbook and the offensive system that is in place for Peyton and will implement it when he is on the field rather than having to play in some modified playbook/system (and he is our only QB that can do that).

  3. Wow way to show your team spirit. Its pretty disgusting to be a true colts fan and have to read and listen to the garbage thats rolls out of the mouths of people like this.

Hey have an issue with the guy who posted the poll because one of the choices is no, Painter doesn't have what it takes. If you can't stand an individual Colt being criticized get off the forum because in my experience even players that have proved they can play and have contributed greatly ( Joe, CJ, Bob) all have been labeled "busts", washed up, inadequate, etc.

BTW I'll be rooting for Painter on every play (I won't be cursing him or complaining no matter how he plays). I don't have to suspend my opinion of his skills (based on his play to date) and say I think he'll shine when I don't believe he will. Regardless of how he plays on MNF if we get the win I'll be back here tomorrow to say I was wrong about him.

  4. "Shining" would be a relative term. Kinda like how crackers don't seem like a good meal unless you're starving. For Painter to "shine", he needs only make this offense function. He doesn't need to play a stunning, mistake free game. "Shining" isn't going to be a 440 yard 4 TD game. He needs to finish drives, he needs to win this game, that would shine.

I agree he needs to win, I disagree that he will be able to accomplish getting a win, if he does get a win then I would agree that he did shine and I would be wrong in my opinion on this poll. But, again that will not happen.

  5. "NFL career"?

What career? Sitting behind Manning? Playing a few quarters of preseason games? A regular season game playing with hacks in a Buffalo blizzard?

He hasn't had a career yet, thats the point I'm driving at.

How would you like to get fired on your first day because you weren't performing like your co-workers whom had been there for years?

What frickin "career" are you speaking of?

Try to focus...he will not shine tomorrow...we know this because we have seen him play enough over 3 seasons. You can disagree and think he'll do great but stop being an excuse machine.

  6. He has never had the chance to practice or prepare like a starter would. He has never had a full game with the starters. We can't play this game of highlighting mistakes that he's made without putting far more gravity to what he's done well. Even the greats like Manning had atrocious games and egregious mistakes after dozens of starts.

I've seen enough to feel encouraged that, though the playoffs are but a dream, at least some quality Colts football may be coming our way.

Don't make the mistake of isolating mistakes like not audibling out of a bad run call without placing equal or greater importance to what he accomplished.

I can't even think of one play where Collins impressed me. What few successes he had were actually so pedestrian that I can't feel compelled to complement him.

The poll is will Painter shine? No he will not but that has nothing to do with how good Collins is or if Painter should start. I don't care if Collins impressed you because Collins might be the worst QB in the leaque but that does not mean Painter will shine. BTW Curtis Painter has accomplished nothing, zero, nada in his NFL career.

  7. I hope the entire teams rallys around him and we actually get a much needed win in a division where no one team is taking control

I hope the entire team rallies around Joe and that the Colts hand him/throw him the ball a career high number of times (like we used to sometimes do with Edge) cause that's a more likely way to win.

  8. Oh ye of little faith.

For Painter to "shine", he needs only to out perform Collins. Being that he was thrust into a crap stain of a situation vs Pitt and did, in fact, out perform anything Collins has shown, I think it quite probable that he will indeed shine. This is the first time in his career that it has been all about Painter. The kid actually gets to prepare like a starter. He actually gets to play with Manning's toys.

I think its tragically unfair that people are so quick to wholesale write him off even though he's never been given the same opportunities that were extended to Kerry Collins, a guy that has been a Colt for nary a month to this day.

It's his first start not his first chance to play (my jury is not out). I would love to be wrong but he's in way over his head. People point to his touchdown drive against Pittsburgh BUT look at what happened on the TD play....he runs Joe right into the teeth of a blltz that he should see is coming and is lucky to make the handoff to Joe who makes a superhuman effort to get into the endzone.

  9. Neither of those is a logical argument. On Freeney's effectiveness is not based on tackles or even sacks. It's based on pressuring the QB and how many blockers it takes to stop him from doing that. A MIKE's effectiness, even in the Cover 2, is based in large part by making tackles. In the run game the gaps are designed so the RB and the MIKE are hitting the same gap. In the pass game it is set up so the MIKE can make the tackle after the WR/TE/RB makes the catch.

As far as claiming he's not made any plays that have turned a loss into a win. That is just ridiculous. We here coaches and players talk about the difference between winning and losing boils down to about 5 or 6 plays.

I understand liking Brackett, he's one of my favorite players as well. I don't understand bashing Angerer or Brackett to prove anything about the other. Angerer has played 7 games at MIKE and he has gotten better every game and last night he dominated the position. I hope they can figure out a way to get Brackett on the field when he gets to feeling better, but I hope it doesn't take snaps away from Angerer playing MIKE.

I'm not sure that Bracket is our best linebacker either and I wasn't saying that. As for the reverse logic of using tackles as the measuring stick for the value of any player, you are making my point, that there is no single stat that tells the value of the defensive player. Does a shut down corner get a lot of tackles? No not usually. If a linebacker doesn't have a fair number of tackles (think Gilbert Gardner) then yes the stat is meaningful. It doesn't prove Pat is our best linebacker he has a huge hole in his game.....he hasn't yet shown he can cover.

  10. When has brackett cause a loss into a win? Pat is a very good MLB and he will only keep getting better in recognizing plays, if you look at his play in college he was very good dropping back and picking off the ball.

You've got to be joking. In the 14-2 season against the Ravens with the Ravens driving for the winning score, Colts show Flacco a double A gap blitz with Bracket, Flacco tries to throw underneath to Rice and Gary drops out of the blitz and intercepts to preserve the victory OR the "rosencopter" game against the Texans when Gary scoops the fumble and runs it back for the TD (total tide turner). That's just 2 off the top of my head.

  11. To me 25/56 is a meaningless number unless you give me comparison numbers of other teams that drafted EVERY year during that time span at the bottom of the draft order, then we have something to measure that number against. Maybe it's a good stat to measure success or maybe not but make the case first.

  12. Kerry is an immobile QB and has less "pocket presence" than Peyton ( so he needs to stay in the pocket but will need to just take a sack and protect the ball more often than Peyton) but playing QB is ALL about being able to make good decisions and being able to throw the ball. Kerry has by far the best arm on the team, when he has protection he will deliver the ball and he will make the best decisions.
