  1.     If the Colts get “hot”, the playoffs are definitely in reach. The next three games will tell much of the tale this year. As someone mentioned, they could  be in first place next week.

All of the self-inflicted wounds are correctable. That includes turnovers, dropped passes, penalties, missed assignments, bad play calling, bad throws and bad kicks.
There are some important players out, that may return soon. In the meantime, some players are getting experience and the team is at least, building depth.

Playoffs? Maybe, maybe not. Could go either way but this team certainly has the potential to get there.

  2.   Since Jacoby is playing, I’m gonna say the Colts win this one. )I watched the “coach’s tape and saw waay too many times Hoyer threw into tight coverage when he had a guy wide open elsewhere). Of course, having no reps didn’t help.

        Jacoby should make a difference;

    Colts 20

    Jags 17

AV makes 2 XP and 2 FG

  3.    This team is capable of playing better WITH THE PLAYERS THEY HAVE on the roster.

Fans (and media) overreact after a loss and either want players gone or look to FA for a solution. It might make sense if the Colts were repeatedly getting beat badly but they’re not.
We’ve seen great play at times from everyone on the roster. What we need to see is consistency and focus. The road to the Division title is wide open. We will know more, after these next three games. Stay tuned!

  4.   There were a couple of throws Hoyer threw (the pick 6 against the Steelers and the 4th and 8 play last week to essentially end the game), where he had Pascal open. Trouble was, he was staring down his receivers on both plays. I see the same issue with Brissett.

Kelly on the other hand, looks like he has a better handle in decision making, when things break down. He’s definitely faster, when it comes to scrambling.

I just hope he gets a chance. No one can know what is in his head but you’d better believe they’ve thought about this very question.

  5.   I’d love for it to work out as Vinny just kicking better. Is he capable of kicking extra points consistently? YES!!
That being said, I understand why they are bringing guys in, but what if part of the blame is the snap, hold and blocking?  Can a “new guy” negate those things.
He might be done or he might just be in the same boat as other Colts: ALL needing to play better.

Going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

If Vinatieri does retire, I would love to see them get Blankenship from Georgia.

Colts need to play Chad Kelley at QB.

I have to admit, part of me was hoping he would get in the game somehow.

I know these are only preseason highlights but Kelly does look good.

Maybe it’s not time for him because Jacoby is okay. He’s still growing but has played pretty well.

But if Jacoby goes down. I’d feel better with Kelly in there.

Fair point. But it’s still the same coaching staff and many of the players, not including guys like Houston who can be difference makers.

I know yesterday was inexcusable but I saw some great plays along with the poor plays.

Brissett returning should make a difference along with TY, Desir, Funchess and Campbell.

This year is far from over.

Omg stop with the Kelly stuff. We can’t lose this game and we have no idea what Kelly can do. That’s is a dumb comment. Hoyer is a veteran who had won games in this league.

I have an idea what Kelly can do. But then again I was remembering these plays.

Granted, it was the preseason but the kid has some wheels and if Hoyer gets hurt, could play well enough to raise some eyebrows. He just looks like he has a higher ceiling but I wouldn’t start him at this point.

I'm confused.  This is akin to saying Peyton Manning threw an incompletion or Jerry Rice dropped a pass.  It happens to everybody from time to time.  These guys aren't robots.  They aren't perfect.

Or Adam Vinatieri missed a kick? Just sayin....

  10.     I might be wrong but he just looks like he has potential to be ready good.
I guess there are some options at QB going forward and the bottom line to me is; I trust Ballard and Reich to get their QB of the future. Whether there is someone on the team now or in the draft/FA.

  11.    Color me not impressed by most of the stuff on Stampede Blue. Their disregard of “filtering” the comments section make it even more unreadable.

To disregard Rigo’s (and Rhodes’) part in the misses is just bad journalism.

Plenty of mistakes by players that have NOTHING to do with Brissett being out.

The good news is that all of these things are correctable.

  12.    What I’d like to see is the Colts not beat themselves: Penalties, blown coverages, dropped passes, bad throws, bad technique, are what has made these games close.

So, I’m hoping that’s what we see. Playing hard but smart. If they do that, the Colts can win by double digits.

I think next year in the draft we address DT and oline. By taking a guard high it gives us someone to replace glow if we need to.  We could even address the OT position for AC replacement or put smith back at guard. I bet we invest some high draft capital in that. If glow goes back to being a backup up we will be pretty deep. We aren’t going to find those pieces in FA or a trade.

Wouldn’t mind one of those big tackles from Georgia!

  14.  Sooo many factors went into the loss:

    Darius Leonard’s penalty before halftime

    Chester Rogers’ muff

    Dropped passes

    Pre-snap penalties
Poor pass protection (Oline, RBs and TEs)

Inefficient Kicking Operation (this includes Vinny but also includes the snap and hold)

But here we are, ignoring all of that and blaming Vinatieri exclusively as the reason we lost and somehow believing there’s somebody out there better. Does he need to get his part corrected? Absolutely! But to just release him is kind of short-sighted IMHO.

We don’t know the details of his physical health and how much the whole kicking operation is failing him, but Reich and his staff do.

It would be fitting for him to end his career by straightening his part in this out

and having a good year. It’s not too late and he has the potential to do just that.

  15.     If it was a matter of distance, I would agree his leg is shot and needs to retire. But this is not the case. For whatever reason, it’s a confidence issue, coupled with inefficient play of his teammates.

Totally correctable. But our culture calls for something “new”. If anybody thinks we’re going to pick up “Justin Tucker”, they are sadly mistaken.

  16.   I’m reminded of the blowout in Jacksonville (2006). The Jags ran for 375 yards and Dungy (against popular opinion) said; “we don’t need different players, we just need to be a little sharper”.
Fans are so quick to want to get rid of players, grab a name like Ramsey or Antonio Brown.
They have confidence in AV. I have confidence in them. He’s earned the right to correct himself.

  17.      There were a lot of plays left out on the field. Dropped passes, pre-snap penalties, etc. Plenty of blame to go around.

I’m good with whatever they decide. A lot goes into a bad kick besides the kicker.

  18.    TY will be missed but I trust Frank to find creative ways to work with what he has.

Another situation for all the “average at best” receivers to show what they can do.

The Colts have been relatively healthy (in terms of IR). This stinks but my confidence is in Reich making lemonade out of lemons.

The PFT one from yesterday summed us up pretty well:

Good enough to beat the good teams, but not good enough to not lose to the bad teams.

One thing to keep in mind is that the Colts are gaining experience for most of the young players and as a result are building depth and continuity.

Most starters (including Brissett) are getting better but some aren’t playing as well as we’ve seen them play in the past.

I do know we’ve seen individual players make incredible plays, across the board.

I suspect we’ll see their position in these power polls fluctuate and hopefully rise steadily. But as many have said, it really means nothing.

Ignoring TE and RB, which is the real answer, which of our WR specifically are our top 3 right now?

We have TY, but one receiver on his own is vulnerable to being neutralized by a good secondary like the one we faced last night.  We need that quality WR2 and WR3 if we want to compete at the highest level.

    So where are they?

And please don't say Funchess.  We have no idea what Funchess is.  We signed him based on a career year 2 years ago and he has barely played for us.  you're not a reliable WR option if you can't stay on the field. To me looking at the stats Funchess looks like an overpromoted depth wideout, should be WR3-4.  Until Funchess gets on the field and shows us what he can actually do he doesn't count.

The fact of the matter is that our WR depth is just scraping along on one side or the other, depending on the given week, of Just Barely Adequate.

We are asking Brissett to be decisive and make tight throws to guys with career catch rates just barely better than a coin flip who are not getting separation from the secondary.  Dunno about you guys but from my perspective... that's a lot to ask.

If the best we can do for a WR2 right now is the undrafted Zach Pascal, what business do we have demanding that our QB throw up a prayer to this WR unit?   This team isn't capable of the long strikes we all yearn to see out of Brissett.  It's simply not how our roster is built right now.

If we want to compete for a Superbowl this year, if that's really on the table in Ballard's mind, then we need not one but 2 new quality veteran receivers.  Not projects, not prospects, RECEIVERS.  As in people who can get open and catch at least 2/3 of their targets, not freaking half like Pascal, Ebron and Funchess. Andd those are our 3 BETTER options right now

If we can't get better prospective targets four our starting QB I'm not gonna blame that QB for having the occasional bad day at the office.   Our WR corps isn't even good, much less good enough to allow the QB to carry the team.  If you ask me Brissett has done an amazing job of getting anything out of this (outside of TY) hilariously bad attempt at impersonating a WR unit.

I don't like to badmouth Ballard, but if he really rolls into the playoffs with nothing better than this at WR, and we don't make noise in the playoffs -- it's on the GM.  Not the team, not the players, not the coaches, not the situation.

It's Ballard's job to get us the weapons we need to compete.  We don't have them right now in the WR unit.  And it's up to Ballard to correct that.  Now.  Not next year, not this offseason. Now.  We are competitive NOW and it's time for the GM to step up and compete.  We have the assets to complete this team.  All we need is to use them.

If he'd rather hoard picks to try to win the 2024 Superbowl instead of the one right in front of him, that's a mark against him as a complete GM.

Agree with you totally: The sky is falling.
    :panic:

This is going to be a different team in January (barring injury). I may be foolish for thinking this way but I trust Reich and the coaching staff to work Funchess, Cain and Campbell in the rotation.

Do they need to improve? Yes. But I disagree that the answer is acquiring someone else, 8 games into the season.
