  1. There is this over-used saying about defensive coordinators being "kept up at night" worrying about so-and-so or such-and-such weapon on offense.

If I was Pep Hamilton, I would be the one unable to sleep just from sheer excitement.  This offense has so much potential.  Where is the weakness? Interior OLine maybe, or FB.

Just thinking of different formations this offense could run effectively has kept ME up at night.  4 WR sets with TY, AJ, Moncrief and Dorsett, with either Gore in the backfield, or an empty set with Fleener as a 5th receiving option... who can cover that?

If the Colts actually get an effective running game going this year to take pressure off Luck... WHOOO watch out!

  2. Is there a cap on how many years a contract can be in length?  Lock Andrew up for the next decade. No, two decades.

Seriously though, it is starting to seem like as long as you produce on the field, you can negotiate a new contract the following season.

Look at Revis.  He has negotiated three large contracts in as many years, and since he produces, he commands big money.

Manning and Brady seem to be re-structuring their contracts every other year.  They are walking a tightrope though.  Trying to push the boundary for player salary, while making their contracts more cap-friendly so the team can sign better players.

This is probably what Luck will do (assuming he produces at his current level for the next 10-15 years): accept a record contract that makes him the highest paid player in NFL history (for like 15 minutes), but that is structured in a way to leave enough cap-room to sign a solid supporting cast of free agents for the short-term.  Then when the balloon is about to burst, he will restructure, and once again be the highest paid player ever (for 15 minutes) with a short-term-free-agent-cap-friendly contract.  Wash, Rinse, Repeat...

  3. Yeah, but what about Madden?  Hahaha

TY running either a go-route(press coverage) or a curl(off-coverage) is my bread and butter!  Just watch out for the WLB playing zone in the flat, that curl route to TY could turn in to a pick-6 for the D...

  4. This entire thing is pretty amusing.  I have been told to avoid talking about sex, religion and politics in public because people tend to get easily offended by those subjects.

However, because of this, it seems some people are still living in the sexual, religious, and political "Dark Ages" because they are unwilling to talk, much less listen, when it comes to these very important issues.

R E L A X  people.  These forums are an escape from the doldrums of everyday life.  Have an open mind and have some FUN!

If you are offended by this subject, move along.  There are plenty of threads where you won't be offended.

If Wilson believes what he is saying, good for him.  If someone doesn't believe him, and wants to make a joke at his expense, good for them.  I, for one, find the Lords' comment that he would have handed the ball to Beast Mode absolutely hilarious.

  5. If you think about it, Andrew Luck has the most to "prove".

Prove you're worth the #1 overall pick.

Prove you're worth the insane contract you're going to sign soon, probably making you the highest paid player in the NFL.

Prove you're worthy of being compared to Manning and Brady.

Prove you're worth being the face of the NFL.

  6. What, exactly, do these guys need to "prove"? That they can compete in the NFL? That they can stay healthy for a full season?

I feel like everyone that is not a rookie, yet still made the team, has "proven" themselves.  Ballard "proved" himself to be a good player, when healthy, his rookie season.  Allen has "proved" himself, when healthy, to be a TD machine.

The rookies are the only ones that have yet to "prove" they can compete in the NFL.

  7. I haven't been to a bar in a long time because of situations like this.  Last time I was at a bar, I was in the outdoor patio area talking to a female comedian who happened to be black.  All of a sudden this drunk white girl started yelling at me that "NO, she was NOT going to show me her teets!!!"  I had never seen, much less talked, to this girl before.  If it had been a guy yelling at me like that, I probably would have left the bar immediately, because she was angry and getting in my face about it.  I think she had me mixed up with someone else, or was reliving some sexual harassment from the past or something because she wasn't listening to a word I said and just kept yelling at me.

I tried to ignore it, but she was drunk and beligerent.  At one point, the comedian I was talking to started talking back to the drunk girl (which was kinda funny since she was a quick-witted, mostly sober comedian), and the drunk girl started spouting off all this racist stuff as well.  She called the comedian a "sluht" and a "ghetto ho" and tried to fight with her, it was ridiculous.  The manager had to kick her out of the bar, but she waited in the parking lot and CONTINUED yelling at me when I tried to leave.

She is lucky she was yelling at me and not some drunk meathead woman-beater.

  8. I don't think Dungy gets enough credit for harping on this while he was coaching.  "Nothing good happens after midnight."

Bars late at night, with intoxicated people getting more intoxicated, are a recipe for disaster.  Both students made mistakes, but what do you expect with a bunch of drunk 20-somethings in a small space?  I doubt that's the only stupid thing someone at that bar did that night, but since this guy is semi-famous (and on camera) it became news.

  9. As soon as I saw we drafted Denzelle Good, I thought of a 2TE formation where the massive, yet athletic Good checks in as an eligible receiver, and gives us 6 OL.  Put TY and Dorsett on the outside with Allen as the TE on the line or Fleener as the TE flexed out in the slot.

If the defense plays 2-deep safeties so that TY and Dorsett don't burn them over the top, fine, run Gore behind 6 OL.  If they stack the box to stop Gore with 6 OL, fine, TY and Dorsett run "go" routes against man-on-man coverage with one safety playing center field who has to pick which side to help.

You've got man-to-man beaters in TY and Dorsett, and zone-beaters in Allen or Fleener.  You could run the no-huddle with this formation and find mismatches all the way down to the goalline, where SURPRISE, remember that eligible OL?  Yeah, Luck to Good for a 1-yard touchdown.

This would be such sweet revenge on the Pats after that nonsense in the AFCCG where Brady dinked and dunked to Edelman up and down the field, then threw a TD to Nate Solder...

  10. If an all Colts team is your best team, then you're probably pretty terrible at fantasy football.  haha

I've won two leagues during the Manning era.  I usually always make the playoffs.  Go back and look at some of the numbers from past years.  Colts players score a lot of points.  I usually have a stud RB from another team, and a solid bench.

The only time I struggle is during the Colts' bye week.  I scramble to get players and hit that waiver wire during bye week.

Plus, like I said, I do that with one team while I draft BPA in other leagues.  Any more than 3 teams to manage and it starts to get too time-consuming.

  11. I'm always Team Naptown, and I always have one team a year where I draft all Colts players.  That team is usually my best team too.

It used to be fool-proof, just draft Manning, and then whoever he is throwing the ball to.  A touchdown to Wayne would get me double points.  The Colts' D would give up some yards and points, but they were always good for a few turnovers, so decent points.

This seems to be working with the current team as well, although drafting TRich was a huge mistake that led to a revolving door at RB for me all year...

This year is looking good - Luck, Gore, Allen/Fleener, TY, AJ, Vinatieri is money and Mathis is back on D.  Flex is the tricky spot, Dorsett or Moncrief?

  12. CP - "Hey, that's my defense over there.  Stop making them look so bad.  I don't need the people in the Colts forum losing their minds and calling for my head cuz the defense can't stop anyone.  Plus, you're making Grigs look bad, and you wouldn't like the Grigs when he's mad..."

AL - "What's a 'Colts forum' coach?  Is that one of the 'apps' the young folks are using?"

  13. This event is always awesome.  I will be there again.  I am definitely avoiding the upper decks though.  Since you can tour the stadium, I went up there last time and I'm not good with heights...  Less than three foot-high glass doesn't seem tall enough to keep a person from falling over into the lower deck.

The best part is the half-price concessions (assuming they do that again).  Hot dog & nachos for the price of one? Yes please.

I like the highlights they play on the jumbo-trons until the team takes the field too.

It's almost like tail-gating INSIDE the stadium before watching a (fake) game (practice).

  14. Garbage.  Offseason fodder...

This same article could be written for EVERY team in the NFL with a few points substituted... "The window is closing on Seattles' ability to field an elite defense"  "The window is closing on Denver/NE surrounding Peyton/Brady with a Super Bowl team"

And Andrew Luck is ELITE.  He has some turnover issues, but finds a way to make up for it and WIN THE GAME.  We can focus on the losses and blame it on Lucks' turnovers, but lets remember the wins where he turned the ball over, but ended up bringing the team back in the 4th quarter and WON THE GAME.  (Texans, Browns, etc.)

Other QBs might have had less turnovers, but they lack the ELITE ability to WIN THE GAME when it's crunchtime.

  15. Guys, this is kinda silly.  We're comparing apples to oranges here.  Dorsett and Moncrief are different sized players that are going to play different roles depending on the offense on the field.

It's like y'all are assuming Pep won't utilize 4WR sets where BOTH are on the field at the same time... or AJ or TY won't get gassed at some point and BOTH Dorsett and Moncrief are on the field for a base formation... or AJ won't suffer yet another injury forcing a 3WR set of TY, Moncrief, and Dorsett...

All the recievers are different, and not exactly "interchangable", so injuries and opposing defenses will really dictate how the season shakes out for ALL the receivers.  For all we know, teams will follow Belichicks' recipe and TY gets doubled every game, leading to Moncrief and Dorsett BOTH having "better" seasons than TY.

  16. Most of the other owners/teams in the league would probably laugh at this line of reasoning, but expectations here in Indy are extremely high.  A handful of teams like the Seahawks, Cowboys, Packers and Colts EXPECT to win the Super Bowl this year because of recent sucess and extremely talented rosters.  Anything less would be a failure.

Teams like the Browns, Jags, Titans, Raiders, and Bucs would be happy just to make the playoffs.  Not picking in the top 10 of next years draft would be a sucess for them.

  17. The Colts have advanced one game closer to the Super Bowl each of the last 3 years, so the next logical step is to at least get to, if not win, the Super Bowl.

My question is, if we don't get to the Super Bowl, much less win it, what will Irsays' reaction be?

There has been talk that Pagano is on the hot-seat.  I would assume Pep Hamilton and Greg Manusky are in the same boat.  This is the most talented team we have had in a while, so if Irsay doesn't get the desired results, is he going to blow it up again and bring in a new coaching staff?

  18. When are we even going to use a FB? Oh yeah, on short yardage plays, which means the FB will either be blocking, or catching passes out of the backfield, neither of which is Robinsons' strong suit.

Robinson will be a backup RB.  A TE like Doyle or Allen will catch passes from the FB spot on the goalline, or a big-body like a LB or DLineman will try to blow up a hole for the RB (Gore or Robinson) in short yardage running plays.

  19. Lowery and Adams.  Both are proven veterans, and won't make the mistakes that Geathers is likely to make coming out the gate.

However, since Chuck likes his safeties to be interchangable, I can see one of these guys getting hurt in the box early on, and Geathers is forced to come in and start mid-way through the season.

As long as Geathers refines his wrap-up technique and stops trying to lay out every ball-carrier, he should be fine.

  20. The real question is, why are we up at 3 am talking about football?

Underinflated footballs or not, I'm still not convinced the Pats couldn't beat us fair and square without them. The whippings the Colts have sustained compliments of the Pats have certainly gone deeper than their increased ability to grip squishy balls.

BB could beat us, because he is BB and beating him fair and square is damn-near impossible.  Is he wearing the hoodie? Is Brady pisst off? Can we stop their run-attack?

Regardless, it doesn't matter the time of day, what matters is whether or not Chuck has stepped up to the plate and hit a home-run as far as game-planning.

If Chuck can't out-coach BB, then we are screwed.

  21. Maybe we will finally have a level playing field and the best team will actually win...

Of course, that means coaching will be a factor, and even if BB has a decent team, Chuck has the personnel and the know-how to FINALLY beat the pats and actually win a championship.

I hope we are LUCKY enough to actually acheive the impossible.
