To continue on from my previous screen shot. Also forgot to mention the Seahawks traded us CB Tariq Woolen to move up one spot to P15. Talk about another big Day 1 trade with the 49ers, that's one way to upgrade our linebackers with Warner in the middle and Cooper as WLB. Score another win with a jack of all trades OL with Beebe. Seen Jackson's name mentioned to us a few times as a great fit for the Colts. Now just need to sign FS McKinney in FA to go along with the addition of Woolen and Jackson and this defense just became scary good. Might even have enough to move one of these guys into the nickel.
Colts need depth badly at wide receiver. Both receivers, Wilson and Rosemy-Jacksaint, are wideouts with size and can block with good hands. Eboigbe is an excellent run stopper and decent tackler. Used primarily as a 5-tech but can see him moved inside as a NT. Byrd on the edge has great 4.68s-forty speed and a good wingspan 81 6/8" but it's his knack for forcing fumbles we like.

Sneed's Combine Overview
Defensive back with good size and length. He's much more likely to be considered as a cornerback than a safety. Sneed is a little bit tight in space and won't have the fluid transitions teams look for in man coverage, but he has quality ball skills and adequate instincts to help attract teams looking for size at corner. He's not a physical tackler, but he could be good enough for placement into a zone-heavy scheme where he will be forced into more run-support duties. His experience as a split-safety and slot cover corner could push him up a round or so as a draftable Day 3 prospect.

My Free Agent List:
- QB Tyler Huntley (Ravens) - Ravens were ranked #1 in RPO and the Colts #5. If we resign Blackmon and Moss could lean on Utah connections.
- RB DeeJay Dallas (Seattle) - Dallas would have a better offensive impact with the Colts than with the Seahawks (Walker/Charbonnet). With McKenzie's late season suspension am not sure if we resign him. Dallas would become our return specialist. In 2023 he returned 25 punts for 265 yards and 17 kicks for 440 yards (25.9 yard per return). Dallas had a slightly better season as a return specialist than McKenzie.
- WR-Z Quez Watkins (Eagles) - Watkins seemed to take advantage each game with his limited playing time and would help upgrade our depleted wide receiver room and capable backup to Pierce. Shane has to have a better inside track and firsthand knowledge of Watkins and might be ideal to rejoin after history of 2021-2022 season performances.
- TE Dalton Schultz (Texans) - Schultz has been one of the few top tight ends even when he played for the Cowboys. Expectations are MAC gets released to save cap space and Schultz would be our starter.
- DT DaQuan Jones (Bills) - Jones probably has one or two years left before he retires. One of the few NTs that are on Stewart's level.
- DT Maurice Hurst (Browns) - We lack proven DT depth. Hurst is a solid backup with proven positive history. Buckner expect to be a lifetime Colt and get extended, but Hurst would be a solid addition.
- LCB Dane Jackson (Bills) - Pittsburgh college ties to new DL coach Charlie Partridge who coached during 2018-2020. PFF ranked Jackson as a top 30 cornerback in 2023.
- FS Xavier McKinney (Giants) - 2024 NFL draft class is very weak for free safeties. We failed to acquire Jessie Bates last year and our defense got picked apart in the back end. McKinney would thrive as a single high safety in our zone defense. Cooper DeJean (Iowa) could be a potential draft selection but no guarantees he would be available let alone our top priority. Also consider DeJean as a potential nickel cornerback replacing Kenny Moore much like the Lions drafting Brian Branch or the Chiefs Trent McDuffie.
- WLB/MLB Frankie Luvu (Panthers) - Luvu proved he can play in a 4-3 or 3-4 base defenses and succeed. He would be a major upgrade over Franklin where he ranked #14th among all linebackers excelling in run-defense (3rd) and had the highest pass-rushing grade.
- SS PJ Locke (Broncos) - a career special teams ace who stepped up big for Denver in 2023. Some risk/reward if Blackmon is released.
- Punter Tommy Townsend (Chiefs) - would replace Rigoberto Sanchez. Townsend was an All-Pro in 2022 and ranked in the top 10 in the NFL. In 2021 he finished second in net yards per punt and 1st in 2022. The Chiefs already signed Punter Araiza on 02/23 assuming Townsend is expected to become a free agent.
- CB Keisean Nixon (Packers) - another special team return specialist that had a better statistical season than DeeJay Dallas or McKenzie while adding starter/depth at cornerback.

Did see where the Chiefs already franchise tagged Sneed and still looking to potentially trade him. Sneed was high on my list.
However, I think the Colts would be wiser to go after LCB Dane Jackson (Bills). Jackson played for Pitt during our new DL coach Charlie Partridge tenure (2018-2020). According to PFF's recent cornerback rankings for the end of 2023, Jackson finished within the top 30 dropping off in the final weeks from 11th.
Another Bill's player that I have been high on for years is DT Tim Settle and wanted him when he was a free agent before. Settle still has proven to be a decent backup and starter and would be an upgrade over Bryan. If we really wanted security behind, assuming we resign Grover Stewart, then also be wise to add DT DaQuan Jones (Bills). Jones and Stewart are very similar and would be another insurance policy.

And, what's the point of noting down someone's PFF grade after 9 weeks or last 6 weeks or such? It's like cherry picking when it looks good for a player...
Get what you are saying but folks got to remember the sample size is much smaller in college compared to the Pros in half the number of games being played. Considering scouts and evaluators have to make mid-season decisions after only 4-6 games and relying on same college students to be a future player on your roster for 18 whole games is a much different world. Never want to count out small school prospects and kids that have heart but lack ideal measurements. Am looking forward to the Combine but also individual workouts for those not attending. The Colts always seem to draft someone I have never heard of each year.

· OC Jackson Powers-Johnson (Oregon) – Not many centers grade out year after year that match Ryan Kelly and JPJ would be an ideal replacement next season.
· RG Christian Haynes (UConn) – top priority is to protect AR and have a run game
· OL Cooper Beebe - top priority is to protect AR and have a run game
· OL Hunter Nourzad (PSU) – Developmental lineman needs coaching could become a starter
· LG Trevor Keegan (Michigan) – 2023 Team captain, All-Big Ten (2021-2023). Developmental traits – solid backup to Nelson
· SWR Malik Washington (Virginia) – late rounds in draft seem to be solid for a SWR backups. See also (McCaffrey, Jackson, Williams). Pittman walks draft a top WR? Drafting backup WR3-4 early behind Pittman, Pierce, and Downs? FA options solid backups?

· RB Trey Benson (Florida State) – In 2022 he was a dominate tackle-breaker. His 51% forced missed tackle rate led the country but also set the PFF College record. He forced 79 missed tackles on the year. Risk/Reward Dec. 1, 2020, he tore his ACL, MCL, lateral meniscus, medial meniscus and his gracilis tendon (hamstring). Reminds me of Tyjae Spears that was drafted by the Titans last year in Round 3 and would be a good pairing with JT. Very similar to Marlon Mack. Good chance to be drafted in Round 2. Solid backup option if we let Moss walk.
· TE Erick All (Iowa) – pending medicals chance TE3.
· Edge Mohamed Kamara (Colorado St) – reminds me of YaYa Diaby taken in Round 3 but lacks the athleticism score.

- FS Rod Moore (Michigan) - Better stats than Kamren Kinchens and projects to be stronger in zone coverage. Must stop being grabby and prone to flags.

- WR-X Ricky White (UNLV) - His 3.77 yards per route run is 3rd among all receivers in the nation. Major threat in the red zone. Tracks bell well making contested catches but lacks separation and suddenness as a route runner.
- MLB Jacob Dobbs (Holy Cross)
- RG Miles Frazier (LSU)
- TE/WR Oronde Gadsden II (Syracuse) – Tweener WR/TE at 6’5” and 223 pounds but excellent speed, good hands along with good blocking skills.
- SCB-FS Sebastian Castro (Iowa) – hybrid LB/SAF role. Team captain as a junior and senior. Returning to Iowa in 2024. Probably the best SAF outside of Rod Moore (Michigan).
- TE Bryson Nesbit (UNC) – poor blocking and kind of reminds me of Will Mallory. Can be difficult to cover and easily get separation. Good catch-and-run threat with good running vision with great top speed.
- SWR Xavier Restrepo Miami (FL) junior - 2023 earned college football midseason all-America Honorable Mention.
- SWR-H Caullin Lacy (South Alabama) - 2023 earned college football midseason all-America Third Team.
- WLB Danny Stutsman (Oklahoma) - Stutsman brings eye-popping closing speed, and his motor never cools. 2023 earned college football midseason all-America Second Team.
- WR-X Will Sheppard (Vanderbuilt) - Sheppard at one point led the country in contested catches in 2023.
- LB Barrett Carter (Clemson) - see which version of Carter emerges in 2025. Hopefully Carter can play like his 2022 version.
- NT Howard Cross III (ND) - 2023 midseason all-America First Team. For comparison see NT Michael Pierce (Ravens) 6’0 but 355 pounds does well at 6’ tall, but the Ravens does use a 3-4 base. NT DJ Jones (Broncos) is another 6’” 305 pound player on a 3-4 base. Grady Jarrett (Falcons) another solid comparison where the Falcons also use a 3-4 base.

There are several more that are head scratchers to me.
I think I'll be following all positions, but especially WR, TE and Dlinemen.
Edge Austin Booker (Kansas) – Was the most productive pass-rushers this season earning an 83.6 pass-rush grade. 25 total pressures and 6 sacks with a 16.6% pass-rush win rate. Had him with a Round 2 grade for a while now.
OL Cooper Beebe (Kansas State) – Jack of all trades OL No matter where Cooper Beebe lines up, he produces elite play. At right tackle in 2020, he was a PFF honorable mention All-Big 12 honoree. As a left tackle in 2021, he was named first-team All-Big 12. In 2022 at left guard, Beebe was a second-team All-American. Beebe's 94.0 pass-blocking grade over the past two seasons led all offensive linemen in college football. During that span, he didn’t allow a sack on 770 pass-blocking snaps. Beebe is the only FBS guard who ranks in the top five in both PB (4th) and RB (2nd). He still hasn’t allowed a sack since the 2020 season. 2023 earned college football midseason all-America First Team. After 9 weeks leads all offensive guards with an overall 83.9 PFF grade who is top 3 in both pass-blocking (3rd) and run-blocking (2nd). Beebe hasn’t allowed a sack since 2020. To me got that borderline Round 1-2 grade. Beebe might sneak late into Round 1 much like Cole Strange (Patriots) in 2022.

Adebawore is fast. Still wonder if he may be better suited to drop 25 pounds and move to linebacker (SLB). Really not a big shocker to see defensive lineman struggle within years 1-2 before they do well but not often the case.

Interior DLine they need to backfill for Grover and Buckner long term so although they seem to like Tomi and Johnson, they seem better off as rotational pieces so far. Need a big boy behind Grover to learn and eat up blocks!
To me there is only one starting position that NEEDS filled and that is Safety. Likely a 1st or 2nd round pick will be needed depending on whom is available at 15 and in the 2nd round!
Just got done looking at PFF's top cornerbacks for the 2023 season. Really coming around to adding LCB L'Jarius Sneed (Chiefs) in free agency. Sneed finished off 2023 ranked 17th but he had help from Trent McDuffie who is another top slot cornerback that ranked 2nd only behind our very own Kenny Moore II. McDuffie ended up finishing 14th whereas Moore ranked 10th best overall cornerback. Bottom line if Sneed walks am hoping for the Colts to open up and pay him. Guessing a 4-year 70M (17.5M APY) deal.
Looking at a bigger future picture we extend Kenny Moore until end of 2026 and hopefully can go after Lions Brian Branch to replace Moore in 2027. In 2023, rookie Branch won the starting job as a slot corner and finished 12th best corner overall. He was excellent in coverage allowed second-lowest target EPA -7.8 among rookies even being targeted second-most (30 targets). Experience as safety showcased his run-stopping ability as he led all rookie defenders in run stop EPA -2.5 in the slot. Coverage scores 76, pass rush score 72 and tackle score 81 with an overall 80 Slot score ranking 4th behind Trent McDuffie (2nd) another rookie and Kenny Moore (1st).

As much as Colts fans here keep saying we need a top corner my guess he will have to be a free agent signing. Going to stick with the Colts bolstering an already top offensive line unit and preparing for the future. Much like Ryan Kelly, Jackson Powers-Johnson also won the Rimington Trophy as the nation's top center. Kelly is on his final year of his contract and would be 32 years old in 2025. Imagine we could resign Kelly for another 2-3 years roughly paying him 14-15M APY but the idea of having JPJ in the fold to take over and knowing he can play right away at RG is a bonus.
In 2026, Nelson will be 30, Raimann will be 29, and Braden Smith will be 30. The Colts at some point will have to address contracts and make decisions about retaining a top offensive line unit for years to come and protect AR. This year in the draft another player I like for added depth is Cooper Beebe (KSU). Guess can say double dip this year and potentially have two newer OL on rookie deals. Looking ahead to the 2025 NFL draft class do like RG Tate Ratledge (Georgia) who early estimates could go Top-10 to Round 2. Again, if the Colts were wise could see MPJ move to center and add Ratledge as future RG. Mentioned Nelson becoming a FA after the 2026 season and in 2025 draft got LG Donovan Jackson (OSU) could be a potential replacement. Jackson currently projected in Round 2. Round 3 projecting RT Ajani Cornelius (Oregon) and reuniting him with JPJ and potentially Smith's replacement if the Colts look to go younger on the offensive line. Miles Frazier (RG) from LSU is another interesting OL that could bolster his draft stock next year if he works on his run blocking.
Next year's draft class would really be interested in Edge Princely Umanmielen (Florida) as am projecting to be a very good fit for the Colts. The Colts will have to decide what to do with both Paye and Dayo's contracts next year. Another player is MLB Harold Perkins Jr. (LSU) that probably will end up being the best linebacker in next year's draft class and might be better as a WLB.
The Colts need to bolster their defense for sure. See how the free agency goes but that appears to be where the Colts should focus.

Suppose always wait until next season and try to get Devonta Smith (Eagles) who honestly a slight upgrade over MPJ and worth 20M+ APY.

If the Colts wanted to be real aggressive, make a trade with the Packers for WR-X Dontayvion Wicks. The rookie was one of the best yards after catch receivers in the NFL (19th) and graded out 26th best receiver.

Had to pull off a trade with the Bills to gain extra R5 pick.
Personally, am warming up to Luke. Then again rooted heavily for him as Nebraska's QB and glad to see him succeed as a wide receiver. WR Luke McCaffrey (Rice) According to PFF, 110 FBS-level receivers in this draft class were targeted at least 55 times. He ranked 46th in yards per route (2.11), 32nd in drop percentage (4.1 percent; three drops), 11th in contested catches (60.7 percent; at 17-of-28, his 17 contested catches trail only Washington’s Rome Odunze) and 36th in YAC per catch (6.0). Liking Luke's low drop percentage and ability to make contested catches. Pretty solid company to be compared to Odunze who had issues prior season and outdone Marvin Harrison Jr. this year.
SS Trey Taylor (Air Force) won Jim Thorpe Award in 2023 with strong leadership qualities in the secondary. Taylor is related to Ed Reed. After 9 weeks Taylor’s 88.5 coverage grade is second among Group of Five safeties while posting an impressive 78.8 run-defense grade. Taylor overall PFF grade of 85.8.

My top 4 realistic draft picks. Not sure we take a WR in Round 1 but would look for Roman Wilson in Round 3 and Luke in Round 5. Swing a trade for multiple Round 5 draft picks and add another offensive weapon in TE Ben Sinnott whom I think is probably the third best TE in the class.
WR Adonai Mitchell (Texas) According to PFF, 110 FBS-level receivers in this draft class were targeted at least 55 times. He ranked 78th in yards per route (1.72), sixth in drop percentage (1.8 percent; one drop), 79th in contested catches (36.4 percent; 4-of-11) and 100th in YAC per catch (3.2). He caught 8-of-22 passes thrown 20-plus yards downfield.
WR Xavier Legette (SC) According to PFF, 110 FBS-level receivers in this draft class were targeted at least 55 times. He ranked fifth in yards per route (3.15), 18th in drop percentage (2.7), 49th in contested catches (47.6 percent; 10-of-21) and 29th in YAC per catch (6.4). He caught 13-of-24 passes thrown 20-plus yards downfield, good for an eighth-ranked 54.2 percent.
WR Roman Wilson (Michigan) - According to PFF, 110 FBS-level receivers in this draft class were targeted at least 55 times. He ranked 13th in yards per route (2.68), ninth in drop percentage (2.0 percent; one drop), 72nd in contested catches (37.5 percent; 3-of-8) and 67th in YAC per catch (4.6).
WR Luke McCaffrey (Rice) According to PFF, 110 FBS-level receivers in this draft class were targeted at least 55 times. 16-18M APY for Pittman is really max imo. Not in the same tier of players like Aiyuk that 22M+ would warrant.
Most of our contracts for the team are reasonable. Buckner could probably make an extra 2-3M extra a year. While Q. Neslon should take a major pay cut. My 2 cents on the dollar.

First try. The way the draft went it favored picking lots of defense.
Got to play around last night and agree the defense was the focus. Once you got to R4+ didn’t see any viable WRs. Did get extra options to trade back and took OL Beebe, TE Sinnott, like Missouri’s RB. Going from memory but enjoyed being able to do trades. Too bad couldn’t figure out a trade for Aiyuk and not sign Pittman. Funny on trades offering FAs/potenial players possible not on the roster come draft day.

In another news alert…Eagles are now projected to trade up in the 1st Round to take OC JPJ if longtime center Jason Kelce chooses to retire. Seahawks are also in need of a center and won’t be long so will the Colts. JPJ only 21 years old. Got the impression the Eagles have already been in talks about adding him “he has some intangibles Eagles fans are sure to appreciate.” Story by Beth Mishler-Elmore
Could the Colts trade either trade back with the Eagles and gain additional draft picks on Day 1 or maybe take JPJ and trade Kelly now while he still has value left for say Eagles R3 compensation pick? Montez Sweat got a R2 trade with the Bears and Kelly is still a Pro-Bowler center imo.

Speaking of trade ideas
Just read an article about San Francisco trading away Brandon Aiyuk. Those close to Aiyuk suggests that he might be on another team next season. Very similar to the Colts getting Buckner who was also headed into his fifth-year option.
If you're the Colts, would we consider trading off both WR Alec Pierce and Edge Dayo Odeyingbo in exchange for Aiyuk? Dayo seems to fit the larger body build that the 49ers seem to already have. This would free up cap space and assumption 49ers take over both rookie contracts and helps solve their cap space issue this season. Can you imagine having AR throwing to both Pittman and Aiyuk.

We know the Colts like Senior Bowl standouts and being a team captain (leader) trait. Cam Hart has got to be high on the Colts draft big board. Cam Hart checked a lot of boxes at the Senior Bowl that the Colts looks for and was also a team captain at Notre Dame. Can see a Day 2 (R2-R3) selection.

Brown is one of the few free agent wide receivers that I would want in FA and would make a solid WR3 on our team and should come fairly cheap. Can't be any worse than Devin Funchess nor as costly a contract.

Maybe this just shows my lack of knowledge, but why can't a single man coverage stud guy be just that for your defense team while the rest play more a zone coverage and rely on your safeties. Maybe we do and just don't realize it. Guess I am thinking along the likes of former Cincinnati player Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner. The Colts surely could use one lockdown press-man corner that can take away opposing team's top receiver every game. Did read where that is one area of the Colt's offensive weakness is we never (rarely) move our receivers trying to get mismatches against defenses. We predominantly go head-to-head versus our best and other teams best DB. This I recall was a comment made during our late surge and playoff attempt.

As a disclaimer, all my mock models have been to franchise tag Michael Pittman Jr. Financially doubt it's the correct action to take. Pittman is good but not exactly at best a top-20 receiver. Goes without saying Pittman has made the most of it with every changing carousel of quarterbacks during his tenure. Hopefully he can build immediate chemistry with AR and improve on his already impressive resume. Not sure what the actual money line will be and am traditionally well short but using Over the Caps contract table a 4-year 66M (16.5 APY) is a respectable contract compared to his peers. I went with a 52M signing bonus and 21M in guarantees. Which projects to around 6.67M in cap space savings compared to the tag under these assumptions and still allows future renegotiations on the table.

Might just be one of my favorite draft mocks to-date. Don't even want to think about cap space implications.
