I really like Brissett and wouldn't want to see him traded this season or next. I think for an inexperienced QB who was thrust into a terrible situation he handled himself well. With a year of experience and a full offseason I believe he'll play much better if he gets a chance. (I hope he doesn't though)

He should be ready by the regular season but obviously would miss most offseason workouts etc. Just a vet that has gotten better every year.
He was injured week 14 I think. He's not playing this season

He tore his Achilles late last season right? Not sure he'd help us this season.

What were some of the factors?
I can't remember exactly but I believe he was moved around a lot and he was limited in the beginning because he had to add mass to his frame.
I don't think he's some knuckle head who didn't put forth any effort. It just didn't work out like most expected.

I have to admit I have not seen him play too much and didn't really notice him when I watched Georgia but I will say, if I were a GM I would be leary of any player that did not develop during college. That usually means they are not putting in the effort to get better and if they don't do in college they are not going to do it in the pros.
I'm pretty sure he's not that kind of guy. From what I remember reading it was a number of factors that kept him from reaching his potential but that he is a hard worker and team player.

In Tampa 2 some of the main responsibilities for the corner are to
1. jam on the receiver in the beginning of the route, otherwise the safeties will have hard time helping and Ward has real trouble with that on tape
2. get off blocks and be physical in run support in order to steer the run inside, because if he gets blocked it spells troubles and big runs outside. This is another thing Ward has trouble with because of his stature.
Those might be the two biggest weaknesses for Ward and they are also two of the main responsibilities for CBs in Tampa 2.
That makes sense. Thanks for clarification. Not familiar with the Tampa 2 at all. I like Ward because of how sticky he is in coverage and with his speed and quickness he can really make up ground when a WR does get separation. I think when he has a shot he can really lay the boom but his lack of size will limit his performance against the run.
Altogether I think he has elite coverage ability and athleticism and I would hold that in higher regard then his ability to jam at the los or help against the run.

Ward doesn't make much sense for the scheme we will be running. His weaknesses are the things we absolutely need our CB to do in order to be successful in Tampa 2.
Can you explain this?

Notable in that it is bad:
What's wrong with Key? The guy had everything two years ago. I remember watching him at the All American game thinking he's gonna be a monster.
Imo he'll still be a good player in the NFL but he's not doing himself any favors.

Trinneman sounds very intriguing. I hope he's on the Colts radar as a late pick or UDFA

Edmunds at 6 he’s not small like Smith. I think Ballard would love a young Urlacher on our D. I think he’s only 19.
Smith is a tad short at 6'1 but he's well built at 236 pounds. Definitely not small

He didn't get all the accolades he has because he was a bad player. He is an excellent pick up in the 3rd or 4th round regardless of what you think.
Easy dude. OP asked for opinions and I gave mine. I'm sure he's a good character guy and has been coached well being a Hawkeye but I would not draft him.

He had 126 tackles so I guess he does have a direct route to the ball carrier. Also defended 9 passes. so he can do that too.
Not impressed by him at all. I watched like 5 games because I kept hearing how good he is. Didn't see anything
-
I'm not a fan. He's completely done if he doesn't have a direct route to the ball carrier

I don't have any doubts Roquan could play very well at Mike. Don't care which one of them we get to be honest.
I give the edge to Roquan because he has superior instincts IMO. Edmunds is a freak athlete though

The "term" wildcard pretty much meant Fitz, Roquan, Edmunds, and Ward could all be in play for us at 6 potentially if Barkley, Chubb, and Nelson go. Pretty much Ballard's highest ranked of those 4 guys if we stay put.
I'm really starting to like Ward. He's way more physical than I thought. Almost Davis like when he gets a clean shot.

Great...

I'm not sure why he's not getting as much hype as other prospects. Landry is a beast
-
Whatever his system is I'd say production and experience are huge factors in his grades. Skai Moore didn't test well but he's a four year leader in tackles at SC and has double digit career interceptions from the linebacker spot. That's the only reason I can see him being that high and that's coming from someone who loves the guy.
-
I would be very happy if we selected Smith. I think he's the best linebacker in this draft
-
I'm now leaning towards trading back and if we do I think you nailed the first two rounds.
Roquan Smith has the instincts and tenacity that I look for in a linebacker. He's also a leader and high character dude.
Arden Key has some question marks but I don't think you'll find a pass rusher with more upside in the 2nd round. I've though about Sam Hubbard but he's not as explosive as Key.
Also love the Griffin pick. It would be a pleasure to see him to continue to prove doubters wrong in Indy.

I'd rather draft Hayden Hurst if he falls in the draft.

So are you saying Bosa is better than Chubb? If so why would we Draft him at 3. If Bosa can record 10 Sacks in his Rookie season why cant Chubb then? I think 10 Sacks is a nice and fair goal for someone that has Chubb's potential.
I think your expectations are way too high. For any pass rusher to get 10+ sacks is quite good. Asking Chubb to come in and basically be Von Miller is unfair. Not to mention the fact that sacks aren't the definitive measure of how elite a pass rusher is.

I really hope he is better than Bosa even if we pick him at #3. Bosa is better than I thought he would be after coming into the league and had a Good season but I want to see Elite play. Bosa had 10 Sacks his rookie season and had 12.5 Sacks last season. I expect Chubb to get 10 Sacks or so in his rookie season if he has the potential to be Great which would be the same as what Bosa had. That isn't an unreasonable expectation for someone going 3rd. 13-15 in his 2nd season which would be slightly better than Bosa's 2nd season. We need to nail that #3 pick because we may never pick that high again and screwing that pick up would be awful.
Wow. Those are some lofty expectations. I expect that you'll be disappointed this season.

I don't think he's an NFL starter. Unless he has a clear path to the ball carrier he's not making a play. Gets absolutely abused when lineman get their hands on him.
Tony Pauline: The Colts love Roquan Smith, but want to trade down a few spots to select him

He's a great player and given better leadership and guidance his career path probably would be a lot different than it is today. I don't think SF provided him the structure, boundaries, or guidance he needed to prosper. Maybe with another team it would be different.
